Getty Marcus Smart and Al Horford of the Boston Celtics. After making the NBA Finals this past season, the Boston Celtics are dead set on improving next year. Brad Stevens acted quickly this offseason in an attempt to improve the roster, adding Danilo Gallinari in free agency and trading five players for Malcolm Brogdon. Boston now has some of the best depth in the league backing up their stars. Heading into the offseason, the two biggest questions on the roster were a lack of playmaking and poor shooting. Brogdon and Gallinari fix those issues, leaving the Celtics with a fairly complete roster. So, if Boston’s depth is all set, what could possibly go wrong for them next year? Obviously, things happen throughout the course of the season that will be impossible to predict, but according to Jay King of The Athletic, the one factor that could hurt Boston involves big man Al Horford and his potential decline. “While pondering what could go wrong for the Celtics, I keep coming back to Al Horford as one of the team’s...
ARSENAL technical director Edu rattled every financial director in football when he claimed that paying unwanted players to leave is “an investment”. That’s quite some economic policy from a club which has delivered more golden handshakes than King Midas in recent months. 1Wantaway Man Utd star Cristiano Ronaldo is sure to be the only winner from his transfer sagaCredit: Getty Among the beneficiaries of Arsenal’s generosity have been Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Shkodran Mustafi, Sead Kolasinac and Sokratis — £150million of signings enjoying a kiss-off for outstaying their welcome. Yet the grim reality is that rewarding failure is the lesser of two evils for all those clubs who have married at haste and been forced to repent at leisure. Practically every team in the Premier League has had their fingers burned by a big-money signing who has dramatically failed to live up to expectations. Q: So I thought Omer Yurtseven’s play during the regular season was impressive. So much so I had thought he had at least deserved some playing time against the 76ers and Boston, especially during the Celtics series when it felt like we needed a little extra. But, he didn’t get a shot. Why didn’t he and how do the Heat view Yurt’s potential long term with us? – Scott, Miami. A: The Heat view Omer Yurtseven through the prism of Bam Adebayo being their starting center and everything else in the power rotation revolving around that approach. For now, it would appear that Omer Yurtseven’s best pathway to playing time would be in the minutes, as scant as they may be, when Bam is off the court. He thrived in those minutes last season when Bam was sidelined. But his disappearance once Bam returned speaks volumes about Erik Spoelstra’s thoughts on YurtBayo. It’s likely still small steps with Omer, with the first challenge being beating out Dewayne Dedmon for the minutes at reserve center. Yurtseven’s growth (or lack thereof) on...

DERMAL fillers are a popular choice when it comes to cosmetic procedures in the UK. But groups have now called for the injections to be prescription only in order to stop them being dished out so freely. 1The Sun’s Had Our Fill campaign has been calling for tighter regulation of the £2.75billion industry since 2020Credit: Getty A new report from the Health and Social Care Committee said fillers being promoted on social media needed to be tightly regulated. Experts say there should be a 48-hour 'cooling off' period after a consumer books a treatment. There should also be a full medical and mental health check carried out before the person has the procedure, they urged. The two young Saudi sisters found dead in their beds were both seeking protection from the Australian government, it has been revealed, as more details about their attempts to build a normal life here emerged. Asra Abdullah Alsehli, 24, and Amaal Abdullah Alsehli, 23, each had an active claim for asylum in progress with the Department of Home Affairs, it has been confirmed. They were found dead in their Canterbury unit in Sydney's west on June 7 when police conducted a welfare check, with no visible signs of forced entry. Police believe they may have been dead for a month - though no cause of death has been established - and appealed to the public for help  Pictured: Amaal Abdullah Alsehli, 23. NOT only are Shell and Centrica profiting from Putin’s war, this winter they will be profiting from the misery of the British people.  Gas and oil prices have rocketed — while Shell’s share price has risen 11 per cent, and Centrica’s by more than a fifth.  2Shell boss Ben van Beurden could earn up to £6.19million this year as half the UK will fall into fuel poverty come JanuaryCredit: Times Newspapers Ltd 2 Half the country will be in fuel poverty come January. But multimillionaire bosses Ben van Beurden and Chris O’Shea only want to talk about money they are giving to hardship funds or call centre staff who can affirm to customers just how skint they will be. Both firms argue they need to be financially strong to provide energy security, but outrageous profits clearly show they are that already. It’s quite something for van Beurden to say fixing the problem requires a “miracle” when his own role will tip many businesses and households into destitution.
CNN’s New Day broke down the ramifications of the Biden administration’s reported plan to conduct a prisoner swap with the Russian government to secure the release of Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan. Bianna Golodryga and Jim Sciutto joined Poppy Harlow and John Berman on Thursday to discuss the offer reported by CNN to exchange convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout for Griner and Whelan. Sciutto remarked that Griner and Whelan’s families would see the deal as “a good thing,” though he noted that Bout’s arms trafficking and conspiracy charges are “a different category entirely” from the charges leveled against Griner and Whelan. “This is basically hostage taking,” Sciutto said. “They pick up Americans on made-up charges, or trumped-up charges, and those are, therefore, bargaining chips that they can use for exchanges like this. And of course, the worry is, of course, you make a deal here, who is the next one who becomes a hostage? On the flip side, this may be the only way to get those Americans home.” Golodryga predicted that the deal would go forward despite the tense...

Angry anti-Biden liberals may be Democrats' only hope to avoid midterm election wipeout
(CNN)Players lining up for their respective national anthems is one of the most recognizable sights in any international football tournament. Each side belts out their anthem, accompanied by its fans in the crowd; shoulders are back, heads are held high, sometimes eyes fill with salty tears at the sound of the patriotic rallying call. But when England and Northern Ireland take to the field on July 15 for their Women's Euro 2022 Group A clash, only one national anthem will be played: "God Save the Queen."The other two countries which make up the UK have their own national anthems for sporting events that aren't played out under the flag of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Wales has "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau" ("Land of My Fathers") and Scotland has "The Flower of Scotland." But, in this instance, England and Northern Ireland will share "God Save the Queen."Read MoreDifferent anthems for different sportsThis quirk of the draw illuminates the complex identity of the Northern Ireland national team. (CNN)To avoid the worst-case scenario in November, Democrats must defy one of the most powerful trends shaping modern congressional elections. Recent polls have provided them a glimmer of optimism that they might do just that. That trend is the tightening correlation between voters' attitudes toward a president and their support for US House, Senate and even gubernatorial candidates from his party. With President Joe Biden's approval ratings falling to the lowest levels of his presidency, that traditional pattern threatens Democrats with sweeping losses in November's midterm elections. But even as Biden has continued to sink, other Democrats running this year have stabilized or improved their positions in a spate of recent polls, both in several major Senate races and in measures of which party voters say they intend to support for the House of Representatives. As worries about Biden in 2024 grow, other Democrats arent stepping forward to challenge himThe question is whether this "decoupling," as many political professionals call it, is a temporary blip in public opinion -- or a reflection of enduring public doubts about the Donald Trump-era GOP that...
An American Airlines passenger has revealed that she and other travelers were forced to vacate a plane set to take off because the pilots had reached a cap on their flying time - all after enduring a five hour delay. The incident, which occurred Saturday at in North Carolina's Charlotte Douglas International Airport, saw dozens of travelers escorted off the plane without warning just 20 minutes after boarding the Boston-bound aircraft. One of those passengers, Sheila Gray, had arrived at the airport hours earlier, accompanied with her husband and two children. The family was looking to return to their home in Boston after taking a brief summer vacation in Rome. However, their plans were soon though to the wayside, in what looks to be yet another instance of travel misery in the US, spurred by a shortage of pilots and other staffers. The shortage has become the latest flashpoint for anger against the embattled airline industry, as several prominent companies continue to face backlash over a mass cancellations and reports of poor service. NEW YORK (AP) — As a percussion protégé growing up in the Bay Area, Sheila Escovedo would ask visiting bands if she could sit in. She was often told to beat it. “They’re looking at me like, well, ‘You’re a girl. Go away.’ They would push their hand like, ‘Get out of here,’” Escovedo recalls. “I was told: “You’re a girl, you can’t and you won’t and you don’t. And there’s no way.” Escovedo, thankfully, found a way, becoming Sheila E., the Grammy-nominated, gold record-making drummer who collaborated with Prince, performed at the Academy Awards and supplied music for soundtracks, mammoth sporting events and world tours. She and other women in rock have faced similar disbelief and hostility. “I think that the common thread for women in general, and especially being in the music business is really staying true to who you are and allowing that to be OK,” she said. A deep dive into rock’s female pioneers like Sheila E. forms the backbone of the fascinating, four-part docuseries “Women Who Rock” starting Saturday on Epix. Director Jessica Hopper says...
The Cleveland cop who shot and killed Tamir Rice, 12, while he was playing with a toy gun in 2014 has been hired to be the only officer in a rural Pennsylvania town.  The town's mayor, David Wilcox, swore Timothy Loehmann into the Tioga Boro Police Department at a Tuesday council meeting. Loehmann was hired on a 90-day probation with the intention that he'd be promoted to chief, News 5 Cleveland reported.  Now the town's 700 residents are calling the officer's new gig 'sketchy' and are demanding answers, even as Wilcox claimed he had 'no idea' of Loehmann's past.  'Everything came back clear that he didn't have any bad remarks on his record at all. That's the way it was presented to the rest of council and myself,' he told News 5 Cleveland.  The mayor insisted he was 'not allowed' to look at Loehmann's resume or 'look into his background.' The council did, however, run a background check on him and one other applicant.  The officer was cleared of all charges by a grand jury in the Rice case, although critics...

On Thursday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) reacted to the Supreme Court’s ruling allowing the Biden administration to remove the Migration Protection Protocols (MPP), which are also known as the Remain in Mexico policy by stating that people who are claiming asylum should stay in Mexico while their claims are adjudicated as long as they can have an attorney present their case and they can stay in Mexico safely, and not doing so means giving most people false hope by allowing them to enter the United States when only “10-12% are going to be given asylum.” Cuellar said, “My position has been that, in this case, if you have them remain in Mexico and they have access to an attorney they want to come and present their case and they’re in a safe situation, then we ought to do that. Because otherwise, you have so many people that come in — come into the United States. And a lot of them are given false hope because if you have a hundred people, only...
For over a decade beginning in 1947, the anti-Communist witch hunt that was the Hollywood Blacklist ruined careers, families, and lives. Anyone who came to the attention of the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) and who refused to name names or publicly denounce communism was put on the proverbial list, the notoriety of which stripped them of their ability for gainful employment. No Hollywood player wanted to be guilty by association. Director Herbert Biberman was named in the earliest, most infamous wave of HUAC victims known as “The Hollywood 10.” He was sentenced to jail for six months for refusing to answer Congress’ question about his communist affiliation. Producer and screenwriter Paul Jarrico was swept up in the second wave and also stayed silent. Soon after screenwriter Michael Wilson won a 1952 Oscar for A Place in the Sun, he was blacklisted for—you guessed it—refusing to cooperate. Most of the men who were blacklisted either never worked again or struggled to produce work under pseudonyms or outside of the country. But in 1953, these three men took a different...
Pet owners have been sharing the ridiculous reasons they have had to take their beloved animals to the vets that have left them out of pocket. Sharing their stories on a Twitter thread, the disgruntled pet owners told stories of hypochondriac cats and dogs who gave their owners a fright - but turned out not to be poorly at all. After Kristin Chirico, from the US, posted she had forked out $800 on an emergency vet appointment for her dog to be told nothing was wrong, other people responded to tell her she wasn't alone. Gas prices are forecast to drop by up to 20 cents per gallon ahead of the July 4 holiday, but analysts allege relief at the pump is only temporary. Analysis by fuel price tracker GasBuddy shows a gallon of gas costs $4.91-a-gallon, as of June 25. That is down from an all-time high of $5.03 on June 13, with GasBuddy saying they expect the price to continue to fall - but only temporarily.   Despite the predicted decline, the reason for which has not been explained, fuel price tracker GasBuddy says Americans will pay the highest Independence Day gas prices ever. GasBuddy experts also warn a 'super spike' in fuel prices is likely to occur later in the summer because the 'volatility in markets remains high.' The company's latest forecast comes as President Joe Biden called Congress to suspend the federal gas tax through September - a plan Republicans oppose and even some Democrats dismiss, expressing concern the savings could end up in the pockets of oil companies instead of consumers. Biden also called on oil companies to lower the cost of gas, arguing the nation...

FLDS was created in the early 20th century by a group of Mormons who got ostracized from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because they refused to give up polygamy - the act of marrying multiple women. Polygamy was renounced from the Mormon religion in 1904, when the then-president of the church said it would no...
Matthew McConaughey, a native of Uvalde, Texas, gave an emotional plea for gun reform from the White House on Tuesday, tearing up as he talked about the victims of the massacre in his hometown and called on lawmakers to think about their moral obligations instead of re-election. 'We got to get some real courage and honor our mortal obligations instead of our party affiliations and enough with the counterpunching,' he said. 'We can't truly be leaders if we're only live in for reelection.' He continued: 'We've got to look in the mirror, lead with humility and acknowledge the values that are inherent to but also above politics. We got to make choices, make stands, embrace new ideas, and preserve the traditions that can create true, true progress for the next generation.' He said lawmakers should show 'real leadership' to give Americans a 'good reason to believe that the American dream is not an illusion.' 'We need to restore our family values. We need to restore our American values. And we need responsible gun ownership,' he said.  In emotional remarks, speaking...
A TEEN was pretending to be a mermaid in shallow water when a shark tore her leg off - and the only thing that saved her was her dad's heroic actions. Paige Winter was "playing mermaids" with her dad's girlfriend's seven-year-old son at Fort Macon beach in North Carolina when the frightening shark attack took place. 2Paige, now 20, revealed she was 'playing mermaids' when the shark attackedCredit: Instagram / @probably.paige 2Paige said the shark attack happened on 'just another beach day'Credit: Instagram / @probably.paige The then-17-year-old - whose father heroically punched the shark five times in the nose before pulling her to safety in June 2019 - lost her leg in the horrific incident.  Now, at age 20, Paige has recounted her experience on LadBibleTV’s No Filter. Paige told the news outlet the shark attack happened on "just another beach day" as Fort Macon State Park was a typical hangout spot for her family. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen flatly admitted she was 'wrong' with earlier predictions that there was only a 'small risk' of inflation – which has now become such a concern that it is President Biden's top priority. 'I think I was wrong then about the path that inflation would take,' she acknowledged to CNN in an interview. Biden last summer said price increases were 'temporary.' Interviewer Wolf Blitzer played back clips of Yellen in the past saying 'I think there's a small risk and I think it's manageable' and 'I don't anticipate that inflation is going to be a problem.' She told Blitzer Tuesday: 'As I mentioned, there have been unanticipated and large shocks to the economy that have boosted energy and food prices and supply bottlenecks that have affected our economy badly that I didn't – at the time, didn't fully understand. But we recognize that now.'   'I think I was wrong then about the path that inflation would take,' Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said of her prior statements downplaying inflation risks 'The Federal Reserve is taking the steps that...

During The Joe Rogan Experience podcast #1824 host Joe Rogan responded to talk of gun bans by stressing banning guns will mean only criminals will be armed. Rogan referenced the Uvalde shooting and other similar incidents then said; “It’s like, how do you stop that? No one knows how to stop that. What is the answer? Is the answer to take everyone’s guns? Well, they’re not gonna give their guns up. Only criminals are gonna have guns.” Sportskeeda.com reports Rogan said, “This country has a mental health problem disguised as a gun problem.” He also expressed concern over gun bans from a different angle, explaining that a disarmed population necessarily gives all the power to the ruling class in Washington: I don’t think it’s wise to take all the guns away from people and give all the power to the government. We see how they are with an armed populace, they still have a tendency towards totalitarianism. And the more increased power and control you have over people, the easier it is for them to do what they do. And it’s...
Marisa Randazzo, Ph.D. is the former chief research psychologist for the U.S. Secret Service and Executive Director for the Ontic Center of Excellence, which specializes in threat assessment & threat management After school shootings, I'm often asked 'what is the profile of school shooter?' It's human nature to want to understand why bad things happen – in large part so we can figure out how to avoid them in the future. With over 20 years of experience studying school shootings, interviewing shooters in prison, and managing thousands of active threat cases, here's what I can tell you about school shooters in the U.S. Author Marisa Randazzo, Ph.D. is the former chief research psychologist for the U.S. Secret Service There was no accurate or useful profile of a school shooter – meaning no common demographic or external characteristics that described all or most of the school shooters. This information comes from research conducted primarily by the U.S. Secret Service and FBI. However, the behavior of school shooters is very similar and it suggests that many of these killers can be stopped before...
Family members of a ten-year-old Uvalde school shooting victim have slammed local authorities after claiming that they were initially told little Jose Flores Jr was alive when he had already died. The young boy was also killed in the shooting after attending the honor roll ceremony, where he was pictured triumphantly clutching a certificate celebrating the accomplishment. Uncle Christopher Salazar has now said that Jose's dad was 'lied to' and claims detectives initially made him believe his son had made it. He told the Daily Beast: 'They lied to him. They wanted some family members to comfort him while they told him his son was gone already. 'I got into an argument with the cops in there. I said, "I don't care if you lock me up or whatever. You lied to him. Telling him he's alive, he's alright..."'. Salazar added: 'They finally told him, "Look, are you OK to hear what I have to tell you? No, he did not make it.'"' IT’S a common sight in car parks across the land, baffled motorists looking backwards and forwards between their phones and the information boards, trying to figure out what they’re supposed to do. I sympathise with their bewilderment, because I have been in that situation — baffled that I needed to download, register and pay with yet another app I didn’t have. 4I too have been baffled that I needed to download, register and pay with yet another app I didn’t have 4If you haven’t got a smartphone that can scan a QR code or download an app, you are excluded from a multitude of essential services Thankfully, my daughter came to the rescue and was able to help me download the app that was the only option for payment. And I am someone who almost always has my mobile in my hands. During the pandemic, Zoom calls were a lifesaver, offering a chance to see a familiar face, while WhatsApp groups helped me keep in touch. But when technology lets me down or baffles me, as it often does, then...
MLB insider Jon Heyman says that shortstop Xander Bogaerts may not be the only player the team moves on from at the trade deadline. The Boston Red Sox have gotten off to a slow start to the 2022 season, as they sit 12.0 games behind the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East as of May 21. As is the case with any team struggling to start, the trade rumblings begin, and speculation runs rampant about whether they would move on from players, specifically from impending free agents. Perhaps the most well-known name that could be on the move is shortstop Xander Bogaerts, who has an opt-out after this season and was unable to negotiate a new contract with the Red Sox. He has already been linked to the St. Louis Cardinals. MLB insider Jon Heyman listed out potential trade deadline candidates in his latest article for the New York Post. Not only was Bogaerts listed, but also fellow Boston teammates J.D. Martinez and Nathan Eovaldi.MLB insider lists J.D. Martinez, Nathan Eovaldi as potential trade deadline candidatesHeyman...
Jill Biden ended her last day in Ecuador with a tour of some of its churches with first lady Maria de Lourdes Alcivar de Lasso. The two women toured the historic La Compania de Jesus Church, an ornate cathedral in downtown Quito that took over 160 years to build. They walked down the aisle, with Alcivar de Lasso pointing out details of the gold leaf, the arch ways, the gilded sealing and the statues of saints in nooks around the basilica. Biden and Alcivar de Lasso each lit a candle by the alter although the first lady smiled and declined to answer when later asked who she lit her candle for. Alcivar de Lasso took communion. Biden, who is not Catholic, did not. Biden then made an unscheduled stop at the Immaculate Conception church. Alcivar de Lasso invited her to visit and Biden accepted. The two women spent 30 minutes alone in the church with just their security and aides after having spent the past three days together. ‘We’ve become friends,’ Biden said Thursday of Alcivar de Lasso. And that...
AS we're sure all first-time mums will agree, it feels like people start asking when you'll have the next one in the first five minutes after giving birth. And as a mum-of-one herself, Katie Arnold-Ratliff can't drop her son off at school or visit family without being asked the dreaded question. 1Katie hit back at other parents who called her 'selfish' for only having one childCredit: . In a personal essay for Scary Mommy, the author claimed she's been accused of being "selfish" for not "giving her son a playmate". She continued: "Having missed out on the character-building that comes from sharing your bedroom and your parents’ love, they’re supposedly destined to be self-absorbed jerks." But after doing a deep-dive into studies about how their upbringing affects only children later in life, Katie says this stereotype is actually pretty unfair. "A groundbreaking 1987 study seemed to prove that the notion of the introverted, awkward only child was a myth," she explained. "Only children are just as adept at social interaction, and as prone to extroversion, as anyone else." Read More in ParentingWASHED...
The Supreme Court's looming decision to reverse Roe v. Wade is set to drive voters to the polls in this year’s midterm elections, a survey showed on Thursday, even as most Americans favor some restrictions in the fractious right-to-life debate. Pollsters found that nearly two-thirds of Americans said the top court should not overturn the federal abortion protections granted in its landmark 1972, as a recently-leaked draft ruling suggests it is poised to do. The final decision, which is expected as soon as next month, is likely to drive voters to the polls in this year’s midterm elections, says the latest NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll. Nearly two-thirds of surveyed Americans are against the Supreme Court’s looming decision to overturn federal protection on abortions  Some 49 per cent of those surveyed said the ruling on abortions – for decades a source of tension between liberals, conservatives and pro-life religious groups – would make them more likely to cast votes in November. This is especially true for liberals, who see the reversal as a setback for women’s rights.  Two-thirds of surveyed Democrats said...
Many of the numbers of the student loan crisis are pretty well known: the more than 43 million people who owe money, the $1.7 trillion in overall student debt, the $10,000 of debt relief that President Joe Biden is considering for borrowers. Other numbers are less well known, like the tiny tiny numbers for whom the promises of programs like public service loan forgiveness and income-driven repayment were realized (at least until Biden started making fixes): how out of the 4.4 million people who had been paying into income-driven repayment plans for 20 or more years, just 32 had had their debt forgiven, while just over 16,000 people had gotten relief by paying for 10 years while working in qualifying public service jobs. A New York Times op-ed offers some incredibly important added context for the crisis, and a corrective on the politics of student loan forgiveness. Where the paper’s editorial board recently had a typically pompous argument against cancelling loans for everyone, the op-ed by sociologists Charlie Eaton, Amber Villalobos, and Frederick Wherry shows how one president after another has created the current crisis one...
