The Atlanta Braves were once in on Jacob deGrom before he signed with the Rangers, but there was a natural end point to those negotiations.  Once Atlanta opted to bring back Charlie Morton, paying him $20 million on a short-term deal, it limited the Braves spending moving forward. Morton has been steady at the front of the Atlanta rotation the last few seasons, and despite the Braves financial flexibility, they do have the Dansby Swanson conundrum at the forefront of their offseason plans. So, signing someone like deGrom would’ve been an added bonus to a club which won the NL East last season with the roster Alex Anthopoulos assembled. deGrom ended up signing a five-year, $185 million contract with the Texas Rangers. In the end, that was far more than the Braves or even New York Mets wanted to spend in AAV or contract length. The Braves were never really a threat for Jacob deGromAccording to ESPN’s Buster Olney, Atlanta never really had a shot at deGrom, as his agent didn’t pay them much mind. “…Steve Veltman, deGrom’s agent, pursued...
Watch Sir Elton John suplex on those helpless New York Mets, as his beloved Atlanta Braves completed a massive series sweep over their hated division rival this past weekend. While many people in Nashville were excited about seeing Sir Elton John rock out one last time at Nissan Stadium, who saw him absolutely obliterate the New York Mets on-stage in between songs? John may hail from across the pond, but he has had an apartment in Atlanta since the 1990s. The rock and roll icon naturally became a staunch support of the Atlanta Braves during their Team of the ’90s run. Although he is in his 70s and is saying goodbye to his fans on his farewell tour, him keeping the Nashvillian legion of Braves Country up to date was purely and undeniably priceless. “Something that makes me very happy tonight, the Braves swept the Mets,” said John in Nashville. “Something that makes me very happy tonight, the Braves swept the Mets.” -Elton John pic.twitter.com/L5jmGMjL3j — Jomboy Media (@JomboyMedia) October 3, 2022 Sir Elton John trolls the New York Mets after...
Freddie Freeman’s son, Charlie, was busy doing the Braves chop while cheering on Atlanta and Ronald Acuna Jr. against the Mets. You can take Freddie Freeman out of Atlanta, but you can’t take the Atlanta out of Charlie Freeman, his son. The son of the former Braves first baseman showed his baseball allegiances haven’t changed on Sunday while watching Atlanta complete the sweep over the Mets. Here is Charlie performing the Braves chop with a telling caption: “Mommy I want the Braves to win because Ronald Acuna Jr. is one of my favorite players.” https://twitter.com/74Talk/status/157674418679088742Freddie Freeman’s son Charlie still roots for the BravesCharlie and Braves fans back at Truist Park got to enjoy quite a Sunday as Atlanta beat their NL East rivals 5-3. While Dansby Swanson put his team off on the right foot with a first-inning home run, the Mets responded with three runs to take a lead in the third. Atlanta was not put off. They found two more runs in the bottom of the third and added further to their lead with a Matt Olson hone...
If you think bunting is still awesome, good look telling that to the 2022 Atlanta Braves. From the same MLB franchise that brought us Chicks Dig The Long Ball, the Atlanta Braves present to you Bunting Is For The Losers. There was a time when giving up an out to move a runner over was smart baseball. But in the day and age of the launch angle, that notion went to the wayside faster than multipurpose stadiums. Bunting the ball onto the carpet was a great way to set yourself up to play some Whiteyball, alright. But for a man who loves the shift as much as Brian Snitker, don’t ask him to sacrifice bunt! Through 154 games, the Braves have not had a sacrifice bunt because they are world champions! Good morning. Your World Champion Atlanta Braves are eight games away from completing a 162-game season without a sacrifice bunt. It has never happened in baseball history. — Tommy Poe (@WalkOffWalk1) September 27, 2022 If you want to see the 2022 Atlanta Braves bunt a guy over, you can just...
Freddie Freeman and the Braves can finally move on, if they so choose. The Freeman-Braves saga is a longstanding one — nearly six months at this point. Freeman returned to Atlanta, fired his agent and created a story. Since then, he’s put up some impressive numbers for the Dodgers. He made the NL All-Star team as a reserve, and could be an MVP candidate in the National League. His performance has not suffered after leaving Atlanta, which is an important footnote to this story. However, the two sides have been tied together for much of this season, and for good reason. This week, Doug Gottlieb retracted a report in which he alleged Freeman’s former agent, Casey Close, misled the Dodgers first baseman about his offers from Atlanta. Statement from Casey Close: https://t.co/WohfDaZ0v7 pic.twitter.com/mUFeWkJwxJ — Robert Murray (@ByRobertMurray) September 7, 2022 "I prematurely reported on these events and simply got it wrong." Doug Gottlieb, who is being sued by agent Casey Close for his tweet about the Freddie Freeman negotiations, says "the conduct I alleged did not occur and...
ATLANTA — Brett Baty is officially the new kid in the Mets’ clubhouse. The 22-year-old, wearing a jersey number that matches his age, stood in a small room in the lower level of Truist Park before Wednesday’s game and explained his transformation from minor leaguer to starting third baseman for the New York Mets. “I got the call yesterday, got on a flight and got here last night,” Baty said. “I’m just super excited to get out there and start playing.” He immediately went out there and contributed to a 9-7 Mets’ win. Baty mentioned that the original plan was to have him join the Mets on Tuesday, but air travel has a way of ruining plans. “I didn’t make the first flight, so here I am today.” It didn’t take long for the kid to make an impact. In his first MLB at-bat, he turned a Jake Odorizzi curveball into a line drive home run. By going yard on the second pitch of his career, and first swing, Baty became the fifth player in Mets history to hit a...
Atlanta Braves fans are going to hate what Chipper Jones had to say about the New York Mets. Atlanta Braves legend Chipper Jones may have owned the New York Mets during his illustrious prime, but he is not afraid to call it like he sees it. In the decade since retiring, Jones has not only been a first-ballot Hall of Famer, but has resurfaced as a pretty good baseball analyst, as well as an auxiliary hitting coach for the only team he ever played for. Never afraid to speak his mind, Jones said that right now, the best team in baseball is the Mets. He says his Braves have to do a better job of taking care of business in divisional play. Here is what Jones said over the airwaves to the liking of die-hard Mets fans everywhere.“Listen. The New York Mets are a really, really good ballclub. And I feel right now, the two best teams in Major League Baseball are the New York Mets and the Houston Astros. They’re certainly playing like it at this point. The Braves...

(Photo by Eric Espada/Getty Images) These three members of the Atlanta Braves roster are most likely to be gone by September 1. This year’s Atlanta Braves team is looking to do something few MLB clubs can do. Not since the New York Yankees from 1998-2000 have we seen a club win back-to-back World Series. They, of course, did it three times. The Braves are hopeful they can at least get two in a row. A part of winning a World Series is having the best possible roster at all times. Injuries can get in the way of this. So can bad performances. We’ve seen the Braves make some big roster decisions in the last several weeks. Although these won’t be quite as major as something like demoting Ian Anderson, these three current members of the Braves roster...

The Atlanta Braves have traded for Astros starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi and Tigers outfielder Robbie Grossman. According to Mark Berman of FOX 36 in Houston, the Atlanta Braves and the Houston Astros have come together with a 1-for-1 deal involving former All-Stars. The Astros will send starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi to the Braves in exchange for closer Will Smith. The Braves have also acquired outfielder Robbie Grossman from the Tigers, according to Joel Sherman of The New York Post. Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports that it’s for minor league pitcher Kris Anglin. Braves acquire Jake Odorizzi from Astros, Robbie Grossman from TigersJake Odorizzi had been a name that had been mentioned as target for the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday but, since, the Cardinals traded for Pirates starter José Quintana. So the Braves traded for him in exchange for Will Smith. On the season, Odorizzi has struggled a bit. In 2022, he has only made 11 starts and he has a 4.25 ERA (92 ERA+). In fact, they have a 98 percent chance of making the playoffs, according to Baseball-Reference. When they make those moves, they will have to get rid of some of their players that aren’t doing well. (Photo by Todd Kirkland/Getty Images) It’s going to take more to achieve the goal of back-to-back World Series championships for the Atlanta Braves. With a 10-11 record, the Atlanta Braves have a lot of work ahead of them this season. While it is April, the Braves aren’t on a good trend in their current state. It’s not a great look. After such a wild and tremendous run last season to get to the series, fans want nothing less. The team received good news when they were able to activate right fielder Ronald Acuna Jr., from the injured list. Tucker Davidson, Atlanta Braves. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images) MLB rosters will shrink here shortly and these three Atlanta Braves could be gone by May 1. The Atlanta Braves are just like every team in baseball having to navigate a short spring training. The defending World Series champions are the favorites to win the NL East once again. They have an incredibly deep roster, but repeating is easier said than done. While Atlanta has plenty of time to find that special chemistry that finally got them over the top after 26 years of failure, not every player on the roster will be with the team by May 1. Guys will be sent down, or flat-out released. Once the big-league rosters are required to be trimmed in short order, here are three Braves who could be losing their jobs in Atlanta.Atlanta Braves: 3 players who will not be on the big-league roster come May 1 3 Tucker Davidson LHP Atlanta Braves Tucker Davidson may lose the sixth starting rotation spot once the roster shrinksIt may only be temporary, but southpaw Tucker Davidson is...
After a harrowing offseason filled with major trades and a grueling lockout that saw the team owners and Player’s Association butt heads for months, the MLB is finally hosting its Opening Day on Thursday, April 7. This is a bit of a relief as many people were afraid the season might not even happen at all after seeing how much of the negotiations developed between the two sides. Nevertheless, the season is back on and about to start alongside the spring. With so many games on, it is hard to find which ones will be available on national television or streaming services. While most of the games will be broadcasted on local cable channels, there are a few marquee matchups that will receive a national audience over the first few days of the season. On ESPN+, you will be able to watch the Mets vs. the Nationals Thursday afternoon. Following this, ESPN is also broadcasting the Reds vs. the Braves on ESPN2 later that evening. On Friday, the two nationally televised games will be on AppleTV+ with the Mets vs....
Atlanta Braves chairman Terry McGuirk touched on the Freddie Freeman departure among a few other things in his exclusive interview with Tim Tucker of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. While things are going fantastically for the Atlanta Braves, chairman Terry McGuirk mentions how tough it was to see former franchise cornerstone Freddie Freeman leave for the rival Los Angeles Dodgers in his free agency. “I love Freddie like a son,” said McGuirk to Tim Tucker of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I know him very, very well. It was difficult. I think if we could all turn back the clock and Freddie could maybe take more charge of what happened and not put it in the hands of his representatives. …” “We’ve had to close the book on Freddie and start thinking about how we win games this year. But as a memory, he’s going to be very special for us. We’re going to celebrate him when he comes back into town, and we’ll always love him.” McGuirk has the right approach here with how to handle the Freeman situation going forward. The Braves will continue to...

The 2021 Atlanta Braves will forever be remembered as the team that defined resiliency. So about last night … After having one too many cocktails in the early hours of Wednesday morning, I’ve had enough time to reflect on the magical season it was for my beloved Atlanta Braves. It was an emotional experience to even get to the World Series, but to win the whole damn thing, holy hell, man. How could this have possibly happened? To this team? In this city? No way! It hit the fan for this team pretty much right out of the gate. The city of Atlanta got its All-Star Game ripped away from them. Alec Bohm never touched home. All the while, Braves Country was in mourning over the losses of Hank Aaron, Phil Niekro and Don Sutton. It really felt like this team that had so much promise coming out of spring training would be defined by Murphy’s law. This rough April was only compounded by Travis d’Arnaud busting his thumb, Huascar Ynoa breaking his hand out of frustration and the entire...

Atlanta Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson was among the players who played an integral role in helping the franchise win its first World Series since 1995. The Houston Astros have their backs against the wall going into Game 5 of the World Series on Sunday night against the Atlanta Braves. Bryan Adams Exits Tina Turner Rock Hall Tribute After Testing Positive for COVID-19 Want to beat pension fund experts? Think like an idiot Barring one of Atlanta’s frequent apocalyptic traffic jams, it takes about 20 minutes to drive the 10 miles between Marietta High School and Truist Park. It’s the distance the Atlanta Braves' Dansby Swanson has traveled in his baseball career, but it’s so much more than just mileage. Swanson, who hit a game-tying home run on Saturday night to spark what would end up becoming a winning rally over the Houston Astros, spent all of his early days on or around an Atlanta-area ballfield. The youngest of three children, little brother to two athletes, Swanson was the kid lurking just outside the fence line, bouncing a tennis ball off the dugout wall, staring in awe at the older kids striding the baseball fields like giants. Every day, he dreamed he’d make the big plays just like them. “I'm probably the definition of ball is life,” he said after the Game 4 win. “I grew up on a...

The forecast calls for the wet weather to clear out before gametime. A few Astros players are loosening up down the left field line in foul territory. Batting practice was wiped out by rain for Game 3 on Friday, and it was a dreary night as the Atlanta Braves beat Houston 2-0. Ozzie Albies had what appeared to be an easy out and potential double play but he dropped the ball and everyone was ruled safe. Did the Braves get screwed? Game 2 was not going well for the Atlanta Braves in almost every capacity. The Astros jumped on them early and they couldn’t get much of anything going thereafter. Looking to try and keep the bleeding at bay in the bottom of the sixth, there was a groundball to Dansby Swanson that appeared like it could result in a double play if they made the turn quickly with Ozzie Albies covering second base. Swanson made a nice play but, after the throw hit Albies in the glove, it appeared as if he mishandled the transfer. But instead, the umpires ruled that he never had possession of the catch (shouts to the NFL) and all runners were safe.
