DEAR HARRIETTE: My best friend and I have so many things in common, but not everything. One thing that we do not have in common is relationship experience: I have been in three long-term relationships, and my best friend has never been in one. When I am telling her about my experiences, she can’t relate at all. Her advice is sometimes harsh, hurtful and unwanted. How do I tell her that I find her advice unhelpful because she cannot relate? Useless Advice DEAR USELESS ADVICE: You already know the answer. While this person is your best friend, she is not the best person to talk to about every topic. That doesn’t take away from how much you love her. It doesn’t give you perspective on what is appropriate to tell her. It also awakens you to the understanding that if you want a confidant to talk to about relationships, it needs to be somebody else. It is OK to expand your friend group. It may feel awkward at first, but it is perfectly fine to have more than one friend...
DEAR ABBY: Fifteen years ago, I “ran away from home” to get away from my adult children, and I finally made a life for myself. They were able to stay in the house because I continued to pay the mortgage. Their dad — my ex — and his family all lived nearby. Now, none of my children wants anything to do with me or my family, and they don’t want any communication from me. I suspect they feel abandoned, since I was the parent they could always count on. Is there anything I can do to repair our relationship? RUNAWAY MOM IN PENNSYLVANIA DEAR MOM: Yes, tell your children you are selling the house, which, I assume, you now own outright. I’m quite sure they’ll begin “communicating” with you as soon as word reaches them. You were more than generous by keeping up those house payments so they would have a roof over their heads. If you had to “run away” from their bottomless pit of need, you did the right thing. Related Articles Advice | Dear Abby:...
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) avoided questions from CBS anchor Margaret Brennan about whether she will remain in Congressional Leadership past the 2022 election. In an interview on CBS’ Face the Nation Sunday, Brennan referenced a Pelosi interview earlier this week with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell — in which the House Speaker argued against some of the “generational change” members of her caucus have been seeking. “You told Andrea Mitchell earlier this week, ‘we need generational change, but in some cases there’s no substitute for experience,'” Brennan said. “Will you remain in leadership in the new Congress?” “I’m not talking about that,” Pelosi replied. “I’m here to talk about how we win the election. I was only paying Andrea a compliment for all the experience that she has.” Brennan tried again to get Pelosi to commit one way the other. “So you may, or you may not?” Brennan asked. But the Speaker again rebuffed Brennan’s line of questioning. “I’m not here to talk about me,” Pelosi said. “I’m here to talk about the future of America’s working families.” Watch above,...
MANY side hustles can make you a few extra dollars here and there, but fewer can earn you six figures per year and only require your phone. According to a recent video from side hustle expert, Alice, who goes by the handle alice_liuuu on TikTok, making up to $120,000 with only your phone is possible. 2Alice, a side hustle expert, explained that it's possible to make six figures just by making sales calls for other companiesCredit: TikTok/@alice_liuuu 2You can allegedly make anywhere from $1,000 to $30,000 per saleCredit: TikTok/@alice_liuuu "Now keep in mind that this doesn't require you to start any businesses — you don't need to build a website or post on social media," Alice explained. "It's a high-income skill that pretty much anyone can learn, but you have to be ok with actually talking to people," she continued. Alice went on to note that the skill itself is called 'remote closing.' Working this kind of side hustle would involve taking sales calls for companies. L: Leigh Vogel/Getty Images R: Jeff Swensen/Getty Images New York Times correspondent and author Maggie Haberman told off an unidentified source during a phone call she took while being interviewed to promote her book on former President Donald Trump. Haberman’s controversial but much-buzzed-about upcoming book Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America drops in four days. Politico’s Michael Kruse is out with a profile that dives deep into the author’s past and present. Haberman’s book has become a lightning rod, with critics questioning her for holding back damaging and potentially criminal details for the tome instead of reporting them out immediately — or, in the case of Trumpworld, trying to wish it out of relevance. The piece features copious quotes from colleagues praising Haberman, and while Kruse sums up some of the criticism that has been lobbed at Haberman, he never gets his subject to address them. For her part, though, Haberman is well-known for engaging directly with critics on Twitter — though not recently. Haberman’s contributions include an apparently brief afternoon conversation at Gargiulo’s restaurant in Coney Island. They...
DEAR MISS MANNERS: I sometimes find myself at an event where no one wants to talk to me. My husband is a scientist, and at his conferences and other work events, the other guests are usually only interested in talking to fellow scientists in their field.  I was once sitting at a table in a bar, and the woman sitting next to me turned in her chair so that her back was to me and her front was to the person on the other side. I understand that these people may have traveled a considerable distance and just want to gossip with their colleagues. But what can I do? I feel uncomfortable sitting by myself while the party goes on around me. I usually check my phone. Can I bring a book? Should I learn to knit, like the faculty wives in Miss Pym’s books? I don’t want to ruin anyone’s fun by forcing them to talk to me. I avoid these situations when I can, but it’s not always possible. Related Articles Advice | Miss Manners: Strangers call...
A BRIDESMAID has shared a request that she made of the bride and the shocking reaction she got weeks before the wedding. The frustrated friend took to Reddit to explain how she called the bride out for being slow to book things and leaving mundane tasks for the bridal party. 1A bridesmaid said that a bride is losing friendships as she plans her big dayCredit: Getty “She seems to be ending friendships over this,” the user posted on the infamous AITA channel, where people seek advice on life and conflicts.  The user wrote that her friend of 15 years, Jan, got engaged last spring. The Redditor threw her an engagement party, and even started a text thread for herself, Jan, and another bridesmaid Sarah to help her plan the wedding, agreeing to touch base once per week. James Gilbert/Getty Images Herschel Walker, Republican Senate Candidate from Georgia, responded to an attack ad run by an anti-Trump group — showing his ex-wife accusing him of threatening her at gunpoint — claiming that he is happy to have the opportunity to address mental illness with his platform. On Monday, The Republican Accountability Project ran the ad, which features footage of his ex-wife, Cindy DeAngelis Grossman accusing Walker of terrifying domestic violence, including holding her at gunpoint. Walker posted a video to Twitter on Thursday, replying to the claims of the attack ad, arguing that Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) wants to “stigmatize,” mental health and “turn us against each other.” “Let’s reject that,” the Senate candidate wrote. “Don’t let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Eph. 4:29. @ReverendWarnock & his friends want to stigmatize & turn us against each other. Rubbish bins in Sweden have started groaning in pleasure and making sexually suggestive comments when trash is inserted as part of a new initiative to prevent littering.  Footage shows the bins saying 'thank you', 'aaah that was crazy nice', 'oh, right there, yes' and 'mmm more', seductively in Swedish as the opening is swung back and forth.  Eighteen high-tech bins were installed in Malmö in 2017, with two able to talk. During the pandemic, the bins thanked residents for steering clear.  Now city authorities have added both a female and male voice to the bins so depositors have a chance of hearing a seductive comment after throwing away their trash.
DEAR ABBY: My friend has this habit of phoning me while she is walking her dog or driving somewhere. To put it bluntly, she calls when she is otherwise engaged and biding her time until she finishes the walk or reaches her destination. When she walks “Gonzo,” I have to contend with his barking, her admonishing him, or the wind, which makes it difficult to hear her. When she’s driving, the connection is often iffy. She has done this for years, but recently it has started to seriously annoy me. I wish she would call when she’s sitting in a quiet room and not preoccupied with something else. Is that too much to ask? How can I politely tell her this? TICKED OFF IN TEXAS DEAR TICKED OFF: It shouldn’t be too hard. And in order to build relationships, you talk about your home life, you talk about what you do on the weekends. Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt spoke with former Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) on Monday and offered an explanation for why he “never” talks about Jan. 6. The conversation began with Hewitt asking Christie why the “Manhattan-Beltway media” are so laser-focused “on the censure of Liz Cheney, my friend, and Adam Kinzinger” and missed what he deems to be the big news out of the RNC winter meeting last week – the rule dropping the GOP’s association with the Presidential Debate Commission. Christie, who was on mainstream media talk shows over the weekend lamenting Trump’s behavior surrounding Jan. 6, responded, “this is what they do.” “Their cause is the cause of the Democratic Party,” Christie said of the media, adding, “And so they don’t want to talk about the inherent problems with the Presidential Debate Commission and what that’s going to lead to in 2024. They’d rather continue to talk about January 6th.” “I never talk about January 6th, because I like my audience. I don’t want them to turn me off. And they’re bored. They do not like it....

Donald Trump's former campaign manager has said he was pressured to lie about the then-president by special counsel Robert Mueller's investigative team. Paul Manafort, 72, spoke on Wednesday night to Fox News' Sean Hannity for the first time since being pardoned by Trump more than a year ago. Manafort was charged in 2017 with conspiracy against the United States, making false statements, money laundering and failing to register as a foreign agent for Ukraine. Manafort - a globetrotting lobbyist famed for representing dubious characters such as Congolese President Mobutu Sese Seko, Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines, and Nigerian coup leader Sani Abacha - was the figurehead for accusations that Russian President Vladimir Putin helped elect Trump.  Manafort was accused of working with Russia to help Trump win the election - something which was never proved, and he has always denied. In August 2018, he was found guilty of filing false income tax returns, failing to report his foreign accounts, and bank fraud, and he spent a little of a year in prison before being released to house arrest in May 2020,...

DEAR MISS MANNERS: I live in an apartment building and whenever I see someone (especially when waiting for the elevator), I say hello, good morning, good evening, etc. My parents were adamant about manners, and I was raised to greet people and acknowledge them. I do this automatically, even when I’m not aware of it. I recently had an episode where a neighbor, who has made it apparent that he and his girlfriend don’t care for me, has asked me to stop greeting either of them whenever I see them. Former President Trump blasted Joint chiefs of staff chairman Gen. Trump, in a radio interview on the 'The Jason Rantz Show,' said that China was not worried about a nuclear attack from the US but was worried about the tariffs he was imposing.  'Nobody has to get in between me and negotiations,' the former president said of Milley's call.  'China was very concerned about what I was doing economically and nobody has to get in and say, 'Oh, don't worry about things, things will be just fine,'' Trump said. (RELATED: Moulton Blasts Trump: ‘I’d Like To Meet The American Hero That Went To Vietnam In His Place’) WATCH: Harlow asked how important it might be for the Biden administration to commit to staying past the Aug. 31 deadline if there were still American citizens or allies on the ground in Afghanistan. “It’s absolutely imperative. They must make that commitment, and they must follow through. And this is a commitment I’ve been asking them to make for months now when I told them to start the evacuation before we get to a point like this,” Moulton said. Harlow then shared a clip of Moulton in a June hearing on Capitol Hill, calling on Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Gen. Mark Milley to fast...
Rafael Santandreu has been at the center of controversy in recent days for his supposed signing for the TVE program The hour of the 1, a collaboration announced by the psychologist himself and that the Corporation has categorically denied BLUPER, stating that “it is neither expected nor expected at RTVE”. This, however, is not the first controversy that the psychologist and writer has had to face, as his statements have earned him barrage of criticism on other occasions, such as when he stated that “depression is caused by you” or that there is than “send love” to Hitler. In 2017, Santandreu was already a well-known television talk show host and toured the sets promoting his self-help books. One of the programs he visited was Late Motiv, Andreu Buenafuente’s format in Movistar Plus. At that time, the conversation between the psychologist and the Catalan communicator went viral due to the rain of subtle ‘zascas’ that Buenafuente dedicated to him. The presenter began the interview by assuring that what happened to the guest had never happened to him in his professional...

I experimented with using the bot for two weeks because I'm unsatisfied with my therapist. I was in a good mood after talking to the bot every day.  Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. After months of searching for a therapist to cope with my anxiety, I found someone that accepted my health insurance. At first, I felt a sense of relief. But lately, I've been disappointed in the sessions, as my therapist keeps telling me to think positively rather than talking about one topic in depth. So in an attempt to find satisfying mental health treatment, I tried Woebot for two weeks. Former President Donald Trump got in an obscenity-laced screaming match with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley as the president tried to get Milley to take charge of a crackdown on domestic protests last summer. Trump berated the top military commander and Army General over the president's demand that Milley oversee the effort – which Milley resisted by invoking longstanding constraints on military interference in domestic affairs.   'I said you're in f---ing charge!' Trump yelled at Milley, according to a new Axios excerpt from Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Bender's book, Frankly, We Did Win This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost. 'Well, I'm not in charge!' Milley shouted back, according to Bender, further stoking Trump's fury. 'You can't f---ing talk to me like that!' Trump responded. Former President Donald Trump and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Mark Milley got into a shouting match after Trump told Milley to take charge of a protest crackdown effort, according to a new book That led to pronouncements about the legal role of the military in...
OLIVIER DOULIERY/AFP Former President Donald Trump and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley engaged in an ugly shouting match in a heated Situation Room confrontation according to a new book excerpt first published by Jonathan Swan and Axios. The excerpt comes from The Wall Street Journal’s Michael Bender and forthcoming book, Frankly, We Did Win This Election. The heated dust-up came in June of 2020 as civil protests swept the nation following the extrajudicial murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, which spawned a racial reckoning across the country. As Swan describes the context of the argument, Trump wanted to “invoke the Insurrection Act and put Milley in charge of a scorched-earth military campaign to suppress protests that had spiraled into riots in several cities.” Bender describes the Situation Room dust-up: Seated in the Situation Room with [Attorney General Bill] Barr, Milley, and [Secretary of Defense Mark] Esper, Trump exaggerated claims about the violence and alarmed officials … by announcing he’d just put Milley “in charge.” Privately, Milley confronted Trump about his role. He...
Representative Val Demings (D-FL) said Tuesday on ABC’s “The View” that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), her opponent in the 2022 U.S. Senate race, was “afraid” to talk to black people. Demings said, “Let me say this, Marco Rubio doesn’t show up. When he does, he does not have the courage to fight for Floridians, fight for the people that he is supposed to represent. I believe that government plays a critical role in the daily lives of people, but certainly when they are going through crisis. What we went through the last year was painful with COVID-19. No one planned it. Our response to it was everything. Marco Rubio voted against getting financial assistance to people who desperately needed it, to our small businesses struggling to keep doors open. He voted against financial assistance to get schools back open. He voted against local and state government, which means he voted against people on the frontlines, our teachers, our health care workers. Marco Rubio doesn’t have the courage to stand up for the people he represents. When things get a little...

He’s an international airline captain who has taken advantage of his “freedom.” Jeanne Phillips  I recently learned that he paid $91,000 on an apartment. He actually walks away from me when I bring up his girlfriend. He talks to her and texts her regularly. The monthly phone bills usually total over $400. (CNN)President Joe Biden has invited Sen. Shelly Moore Capito back to the White House to discuss infrastructure, the President told reporters Thursday, a week after the West Virginia Republican unveiled a counterproposal to the White House's $2 trillion package."I invited her to come with anyone she wants to bring with her to the White House," Biden told reporters traveling with him to Georgia. "They're off next week in the Senate, so I said if you wanted to come next week, that's fine, but if you want to wait and have our staff talk some more, but she seemed very positive about wanting to do something, and I'm interested to hear what they have to say." In an interview with CNN on Sunday, Capito said she'd seen "very encouraging signs" from the White House on a bipartisan infrastructure compromise, adding, "We have gotten some good signals back that this is the direction the White House and others want to go."Capito, the ranking member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, was one of the first Republican lawmakers to meet with...
FORMER Manchester United star Matteo Darmian claims old boss Louis van Gaal was ‘obsessive about rules’. And the Dutch tactician also told him ‘you are here thanks to me’ during one of his trademark pep talks. 2Matteo Darmian has opened up over former Man Utd boss Louis van GaalCredit: Getty - Contributor Darmian, 31, was signed by United from Torino in 2015 for £13million. He spent four seasons at Old Trafford, playing 92 times while winning an FA Cup and Europa League. Darmian was brought to the Theatre of Dreams by eccentric Dutchman Van Gaal, who had been tasked with getting United back to the top after David Moyes’ disastrous reign. And Darmian has now revealed the tactician was a stickler for rules on and off the training ground. Van Gaal also gave the Italian an immediate confidence boost upon arrival by declaring Darmian would have the chance to challenge Antonio Valencia for the team’s right-back spot. However, Van Gaal made sure Darmian knew who was in charge, adding: “You are here thanks to me.” Darmian revealed: “Van Gaal was...
Meghan McCain joined in the outrage over the phrase “Uncle Tim” trending on Twitter after Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) delivered his rebuttal to President Joe Biden’s address to Congress. The View led their Thursday show with a conversation about the speeches from Biden and Scott, and McCain said she was “really disappointed” by the progressive-leaning elements of the president’s remarks. Summarizing conservative criticisms with Biden’s address, McCain said “it’s very disappointing to the people who had faith in him for running as a centrist.” McCain went on to offer a much more favorable opinion of Scott’s rebuttal, but for the most part, she honed in on how Twitter allowed the racially-charged insult of “Uncle Tim” to trend for hours before pulling the plug on it. As she called out the spoof of the “Uncle Tom” pejorative, McCain arrived at the conclusion that “it’s okay to be racist and use racial slurs towards black men as long as they are Republicans.” I’m disgusted by the response to him. Hit him on policy if you have policy problems with him, but the...
DEAR HARRIETTE: I started talking to a guy during quarantine, and now he wants to take me out. Harriette Cole  We got close — from a distance — over this past year. We even had phone sex. It was fun, given the circumstances. I feel safe with him, or as safe as you can when you haven’t physically spent time together. Because we have established intimacy on the phone and over Zoom, I think he is going to want to actually be physically close soon. I’m scared to death, in part because actual intimacy is something I haven’t had in a whole year and also because even though I feel like I know him, this also feels really new. How can I talk to him about this so that things don’t get awkward? I am nowhere close to ready to have actual sex with him, but I do want to get together. Real Life DEAR REAL LIFE: Be honest with him. Acknowledge how much fun you have had this past year, getting to know him virtually. Tell him that you...
