Aaron Pico needs a breakout performance to prove he is a Bellator title threat. Bellator is quietly putting together some compelling cards with top prospects that casual mixed martial arts fans may not recognize. Bellator 286 is filled with such fights, including two big names at the top of the card in A.J. McKee and Patricio Pitbull. Aaron Pico was once considered a top prospect in his own right, but he’s the name to watch at Bellator 286 because it is time for him to step into the role of a title contender. It has been five years since Pico stepped into an MMA cage for the first time of his professional career. Since that stunning defeat at Bellator 180, Pico has continued to develop as a dangerous opponent, even though the journey hasn’t been without its hiccups. Now, he’s riding a six-fight win streak and should be knocking on the door to a featherweight title opportunity. Pico was last seen back at Bellator 277 where he picked up a stoppage victory over Adli Edwards in the third round. Since...
Getty Green Bay Packers special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia is turning things around quickly. The Green Bay Packers have struggled with special teams for years, with seasons throughout their storied franchise being derailed due to special teams blunders. However, there’s a glimmer of hope that special teams is finally turning itself around. After the team’s Week 3 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team announced that Packers veteran punter Pat O’Donnell had been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. The 31-year-old punted the ball seven times, averaging 44.7 net yards per punt. According to the Packers, his O’Donnell’s seven punts inside of Tampa Bay’s 20-yard line were the most by a Green Bay punter since 1976. The Packers had significant problems with special teams throughout last season, including a blocked punt in the playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers that cost them a trip to the NFC championship game. Green Bay hired long-time special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia this offseason, and the move appears to be having a major impact on the team’s “we-fense.”Who...
ANTOINE GRIEZMANN won Atletico Madrid's Player of the Month despite starting just ONE MATCH, with the transfer spat with Barcelona still ongoing. The Frenchman, 31, rejoined Atletico from Barca on a two-year loan following an unsuccessful two years at the Camp Nou. 1Griezmann won Atletico's Player of the Month awardCredit: Rex Despite Barca paying over £100million for Griezmann in 2019, they inserted a cut-price fee of £35m in his Atletico loan. However, that will only be triggered if the World Cup winner plays a certain amount of games. And to avoid triggering the buy option, Atletico have only played Griezmann for less than 30 minutes per match - which is under the threshold to be counted as a game in the terms. A new deal could be negotiated for around £22m to end the stalemate and give Griezmann the game time he deserves ahead of France's world title defence in Qatar later this year. CNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday advised investors to think of the bigger picture when it comes to the Federal Reserve's battle against inflation and its effect on the stock market. "The short-term camp is made up of people who either can't handle any pain or don't believe in [Fed Chair Jerome] Powell and want to get out," the "Mad Money" host said. "I think Powell wins the game and when he does, we'll be on the field, and the short-termers will be at the bottom of the stands," he added. The Fed raised interest rates by 75 basis points on Wednesday and signaled that it will continue its aggressive campaign against inflation. Stocks ended the volatile trading session down as Wall Street digested the news. Cramer said that there is pain ahead for the market, investors must bet with the Fed if they want their portfolios to stay intact in the long-term.  People who believe in Powell's vision – whom Cramer calls the silent majority – understand that the Fed has to increase interest rates to avoid pain even further...
Fox News led the competition on Monday as coverage of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in the UK took place largely during the first half of the day. The network pulled in 1.74 million average viewers over the coveted 5am to 1pm hours as they covered the end of her reign and the dazzling funeral procession that followed. CNN and MSNBC also received a boost from the monarch's death according to Nielsen Media Research as they raked in  1.32 million viewers and 890,000 viewers respectively.  CNN did well in the 25 to 54 age demographic, in some places better than Fox News, but were beaten out overall as they averaged 232,000 viewers in that demographic to Fox News' 243,000. MSNBC fell way short in this area, as they only averaged 85,000 viewers in that age demographic.  At the end of the day, Fox News grabbed the lion's share of viewers with 1.94 million total viewers, while MSNBC placed second with 1.44 million. Duane Chapman, aka Dog the Bounty Hunter, believes a Republican Party sweep is coming in the midterm elections, and President Joe Biden may commit suicide after it happens. Chapman’s comments came while he was speaking at the “Opening the Heavens” conference this month, and the video was flagged on Twitter by the account Right Wing Watch. Chapman, known for TV shows like Dog the Bounty Hunter, referenced election “cheaters” in the government and appeared to suggest Biden could commit suicide after November, drawing a comparison to Adolf Hitler. “Wait until November. I don’t care how many ballot boxes there are. I don’t care how they try to cheat. Wait until you see what happens,” the reality TV star said. He then made his comparison between Biden and Hitler, claiming the “cheaters” are going to be caught, including the president. “If you remember, Hitler committed suicide. You know why? Because he was caught. You know what’s going to happen? They’re going to catch these cheaters, and I’m not saying with my mouth or my tongue that he’s going to commit suicide, but...
BRENDAN RODGERS has passed the point of no return. by Natalia Mittelstadt   Democrats and their media allies have sought to stigmatize Republicans concerned about 2020 voting irregularities as “election deniers,” yet scores of leading Democrats have themselves raised concerns about elections won by Republicans since 2000, including claiming elections were stolen and attempting to change the outcome of presidential elections by objecting to the certification of state electoral college votes. In the Senate race in Washington, for instance, Democratic Sen. Patty Murray’s campaign recently slammed her GOP oopnent Tiffany Smiley for her stance on election integrity, calling it “way out of line with the truth and way out of line with Washington voters.” “Tiffany Smiley is yet another MAGA Republican who is scrambling to hide her extreme views after the primary,” Murray campaign spokesperson Naomi Savin told Axios. Murray, however, put out a statement on Jan. 6, 2005 expressing her agreement with fellow Democrats who had “raised questions about voting irregularities” in the 2004 presidential election. In a statement to the Washington Free Beacon, Smiley campaign spokeswoman Elisa Carlson said that Murray was “a hypocrite and has no business attacking anyone over protecting democracy.” “She...

Instant reaction to Pac-12 developments on the field … 1. WSU to the rescue Nine months ago, Washington State planted its flag in the Husky Stadium turf after a resounding victory in the Apple Cup. Saturday, the Cougars carried the flag for the Pac-12 in enemy territory, stunning No. 19 Wisconsin 17-14 to give the conference a desperately-needed victory over a Power Five opponent. Because it had been a long, long time — 51 weeks, in fact. Since Stanford’s win at Vanderbilt on the evening of Sept. 18, 2021, the conference had dropped eight consecutive games against Power Five opposition. The losing streak included two regular-season losses to Notre Dame (by Stanford and USC), three losses in bowl games (Oregon, Utah and Arizona State), followed by three losses last week (Colorado, Utah and Oregon). The Cougars mustered the performance after what was a substandard effort in their opener against Idaho. Or maybe that seven-point win was intended to lull the Badgers into a false sense of security. It sure fooled us. The Hotline was not optimistic about WSU’s prospects for...
Outspoken Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia lambasted Kathy Griffin on Wednesday after the comedian warned of a 'civil war' if the GOP wins back control of Congress in November. The liberal celebrity joined in on a recent surge in Democratic attacks against allies of Donald Trump, suggesting that democracy itself hinges on keeping the ex-president's ilk from elected office. Griffin wrote on Twitter Tuesday, 'If you don’t want a Civil War, vote for Democrats in November. If you do want Civil War, vote Republican.' 'This sounds very threatening Kathy,' Greene shot back the next day. 'Americans just want their elected leaders to solve the problems that have been shoved into their lives by stupid politicians. Not your civil war.' But Greene has signaled support for dividing the United States in the recent past, floating the term 'national divorce' on more than one occasion. That includes an October 2021 Twitter poll asking Americans if they would support a 'national divorce' between red and blue states, and a December post on the platform reacting to a Twitter user's complaints about...

The GOP candidate backed by Donald Trump has won the party's nomination in the Massachusetts governor's race, defeating an opponent who was considered the more moderate candidate. Geoff Diehl, a former state representative whom Trump praised as wielding an 'iron fist,' defeated businessman Chris Doughty in Tuesday's primary election in the latest high-profile victory for a Trump loyalist. Massachusetts leans strongly left, but currently has a moderate Republican governor, Charlie Baker, a fierce Trump critic who won his last election by a landslide but declined to seek re-election this time amid fears of a primary challenge. On August 25th, California’s Air Resources Board voted unanimously to finalize its Advanced Clean Cars II regulations, which aim to phase out the sale of conventional internal combustion vehicles and hybrids by 2035. The carefully crafted regulatory framework is a masterpiece of rulemaking, reflecting the insight of an agency known throughout the world as a leader in environmental stewardship. The historic decision is also a victory for the collaborative rulemaking process, garnering supportive statements from a diverse group of stakeholders that includes the world’s major automakers.   While some argue that the 2035 target date is unrealistic, ardent electric vehicle fans have the opposite complaint, insisting that the transition could be completed as early as 2030. The deadline reflects the sound judgment of Governor Gavin Newsom, who set the wheels in motion for the agency’s proposal when he signed Executive Order N-79-20 in September of 2020. Newsom’s politically courageous order established the 2035 goal and directed the Air Resources Board to hammer out an appropriate, viable regulatory framework. Many other nations have adopted similar ZEV mandates with target dates that...
In a subtle departure from his national image as a liberal champion, Gov. Gavin Newsom successfully pushed state lawmakers to support a series of tough policies in the final weeks of the legislative year that bucked progressive ideals and ultimately could broaden his appeal beyond California. Democratic and Republican lawmakers at the state Capitol heeded his call to extend operations at Diablo Canyon, reversing an agreement environmental groups drove six years ago to shut down California’s last remaining nuclear plant out of safety concerns. The governor won support for his plan to provide court-ordered treatment for unhoused Californians struggling with mental illness and addiction amid outcry from powerful civil rights organizations. Newsom vetoed legislation to allow supervised drug injection sites in pilot program cities, drawing criticism that his decision was politically motivated as speculation swirls around his prospects as a potential presidential contender. “He is making political calculations on all of these decisions in a very deep and nuanced way that considers where he wants to go next,” said Mary Creasman, chief executive of California Environmental Voters. “That doesn’t...

Artwork created by artificial intelligence (AI) was awarded a first place blue ribbon and a $300 prize after winning the digital category at the Colorado State Fair Fine Arts Competition, but human creators are furious about the news - with one saying the world is 'watching the death of artistry unfold.' The AI artwork, dubbed Théâtre D'opéra Spatial, was submitted by Jason Allen, the president of a Pueblo-based gaming company Incarnate Games, who said he used Midjourney to make the stunning scenes that appear to combine medieval times with a futuristic world. Midjourney is an AI program that creates images from textual descriptions. Allen announced his win on Discord, an instant messaging social platform where he goes by the name Sincarnate, which then spread to Twitter where users shared their distaste that artwork generated by AI was chosen over those created by a human - one user stated 'that's pretty f*cking sh*tty.' The Colorado resident appears to not be bothered by the criticism, as Allen notes on Discord how Twitter users are against AI-generated art, but are also 'the first...

Rhyne Howard was a bright spot for the Atlanta Dream this season and has been recognized as the WNBA Rookie of the Year. The Atlanta Dream took a major step forward this season. First-year coach, Tanisha Wright helped lead the team to 14 wins, an improvement of six wins over the previous season and their best win percentage in four seasons. At the heart of that improvement was rookie guard Rhyne Howard, who led the team in minutes played, points, steals and 3-pointers made. The 6-foot-2 guard also finished second on the team in blocks and third in total rebounds. Howard’s energizing play was a bright light for the Dream, who have navigated locker room challenges and a high-profile ownership change over the past few years. The Dream haven’t made the playoffs since 2018 but were in the hunt for a postseason berth until the final days of the regular season. Her contributions caught plenty of attention and she’s been chosen as the 2022 WNBA Rookie of the Year. BREAKING: Rhyne Howard is your @WNBA Rookie of the Year ???? pic.twitter.com/bEYB3n6JLR —...
Becky Hammon finally got her shot as a head coach and she did not disappoint, winning WNBA Coach of the Year in her first season with the Aces. Becky Hammon’s first season at the helm of the Las Vegas Aces has gone swimmingly. They finished with a 26-10 record, the second-highest win percentage in franchise history, boasted the league’s best offense by a wide margin and secured the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. They’ve already advanced past the Washington Mystics and are now set to match up the Seattle Storm for a chance to move to the WNBA Finals. As the league’s postseason awards have begun to roll in, it was no surprise to see Hammon honored as the best coach in the WNBA this season. With one preseason game remaining and 53-man roster decisions not far behind, the season is fast approaching for the Chicago Bears. The Tribune’s Brad Biggs reaches into the mailbag to answer questions about Roquan Smith’s contract situation, Matt Eberflus’ decision to play starters Saturday in Cleveland and — believe it or not — whether the young offensive line is becoming a strength. Who wins the Roquan Smith situation? Smith or Ryan Poles and the Bears? — Don, Homewood In this instance, I don’t know if we can — or need to — establish a winner and loser. Smith didn’t get the lucrative multiyear extension he was seeking. The Bears were unable to sign arguably their best player beyond the 2022 season, and it’s possible they will be back in a similar situation in March if they use the franchise tag. I don’t know how realistic that possibility is, and Smith has a chance to become a big winner if he has a blockbuster season. If the move to weak-side linebacker in the Tampa-2 scheme allows Smith to be more of...
Donald Trump celebrated 'ALL WINS' from candidates he endorsed in Tuesday's primary races in a tongue-in-cheek statement last night. His post alluded to his previously sarcastic backing of some Democrats on the ballot, as well as protégé and Florida Republican congressman Matt Gaetz. Florida Rep. Charlie Crist won his state's Democratic gubernatorial primary on Tuesday night and will now face Republican Governor Ron DeSantis in November. DeSantis, whose approval numbers are skyrocketing not just in the Sunshine State but among Republicans nationwide, is uncontested in the GOP primary.  Crist had been polling ahead of his opponent, Florida Agricultural Commissioner Nikki Fried. He went into Tuesday's race with high profile endorsements including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.  The moderate lawmaker was a Republican when he served one term as governor of Florida from 2007 until 2011. After a failed bid for Senate he narrowly lost re-election to Republican Rick Scott in 2014.  He ran as a Democrat for Florida's 13th Congressional District, a seat he's held since 2017.  Crist's race has been a smaller-scale test run of President Joe Biden's successful 2020 campaign, though the Democrat lost Florida to Donald Trump in that race. Like Biden he's sought to portray himself as a unifying and non-divisive candidate who's focused on kitchen table issues. He's also already set his sights on DeSantis, attacking him on Election...

The Manager of the Year award is more about narrative than anything else. Outside of wins and losses, there aren’t really statistics to gauge how well a manager is doing in a given season. It’s more about feeling, guidance and the environment they foster over the course of 162 games, a period when players and coaches see each other way more than they see their own families and friends. Perhaps the highest compliment for a manager is, simply, that they get it. Buck Showalter, who will win the National League Manager of the Year award handily, absolutely gets it. Listening to him talk can include many things: deciphering old sayings and aphorisms, history lessons, a way of conversing about baseball that’s somewhere between old school outlooks and new school meme-talk. But underneath it all is someone whose decades of experience have taught him that managing a baseball team isn’t always about balls and strikes, or even wins and losses. Showalter will poke fun at himself when he knows he’s telling a story or using a favorite line for the third...
It’s been a while. The Yankees had not won back-to-back games since late last month, so beating the Blue Jays on Sunday and the Mets the next day was momentum they have not had in a while. Aaron Judge, however, said it just reminded him of the way the team felt in the first half of the season when they were the best team in baseball. “Just bringing the intensity you know from the very first pitch,” the slugger said of the Bombers finally stringing together wins. “You can just feel a little different energy in the dugout.” They were the best results the Yankees have had since July 29-30, the last time they won back-to-back games. Wednesday night, the Bombers are looking to win their first series since they won three out of four against the Royals with those last two consecutive wins. The Mets swept the Yankees last month in Queens at the beginning of the Yankees’ second-half slide. Judge also got some good results — finally. The slugger snapped a nine-game home run drought with a solo...
