DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – A Douglas County Commissioner wants to look into taking over a Denver park located in Douglas County. Daniels Park is a place of beauty. It includes an area set aside for use by indigenous people. It’s home to many bison. Commissioner George Teal told a study session of county commissioners, “I’d like to request an executive session specifically for the purposes of receiving legal advice on proceeding with taking action to bring Daniels Park into Douglas County ownership.” (credit: CBS) The battle over the park stems from Denver passing a law forbidding concealed weapons in its parks. The city already had a ban on “open carry” of firearms. Teal sees the new law as a violation of the second amendment. Scott Gilmore at Denver Parks takes strong issue with the thought of taking the park away. “They can’t take back something they never really owned because this land was deeded by a family to the City and County of Denver.” That goes way back to between 1920-37. It’s named for Maj. William Cooke Daniels, a...

A statue of Thomas Jefferson that has resided in New York City Hall since 1833 was removed Monday following a unanimous vote by the city's Public Design Commission over the Founding Father's slave-owner past. Author Douglas Murray slammed the decision on "Fox & Friends" Wednesday and warned of the left's mission to "rewrite the American story." NYC'S DE BLASIO BOOTING THOMAS JEFFERSON STATUE FROM CITY HALL DOUGLAS MURRAY: The whole tone, the whole story of America is being reframed under our feet. They are making us have to be defensive about Thomas Jefferson instead of regarding Jefferson, rightly, as one of not just the greatest figures in American history, one of the greatest figures in world history. Instead of that, we have to do this, well, you know, he did own slaves, I mean that that wasn't -- and before you know it, the main story of Jefferson has been changed. And this is what, by the way, papers like the New York Times, famously with the 1619 Project, they said they want to do. They said they want to reframe...

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Salvadoran immigrant who admitted fatally shooting four people in Nevada during a two-week rampage in 2019 pleaded guilty Tuesday to the remaining two killings as part of a deal with prosecutors that will spare him the death penalty. Wilber Ernesto Martinez Guzman, 22, will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty to first-degree murder with a deadly weapon, in rural Douglas County, in the deaths of Connie Koontz and Sophia Renken. The two were killed at their homes in Gardnerville, south of Carson City. He pleaded guilty in Washoe County on Oct. 21 to the same charges in the deaths of Gerald and Sharon David at their Reno home. An announcement by prosecutors last month that a deal was struck regarding all four killings came as a surprise in a legal proceeding that had dragged on for nearly two years. District Attorneys Chris Hicks of Washoe County and Mark Jackson of Douglas County initially planned one death penalty trial for Martinez Guzman in Reno. But the...
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has sent representatives to meet with prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney's office, amid reports that their collection could contain 12 objects which were stolen from Cambodia. The New York City institution is one of five named in reports as possessing art bought from a British dealer, Douglas Latchford. Latchford died in August 2020, aged 88, and was facing charges of trading in stolen antiquities at the time. Earlier this month the Pandora Papers - a trove of 11.9 million leaked documents, detailing the hidden assets of some of the world's most influential people - revealed the lengths to which Latchford went to hide his trail. In 2011 he and his family had turned to a company specialized in helping wealthy families create offshore companies and trusts, allowing them to evade taxes and government oversight.  The Pandora Papers lifted the lid on his records, showing that he had sold directly to five museums - the British Museum, Denver Art Museum, Cleveland Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Australia, and the Met. The mansion at 1108 Wallace Ridge in Beverly Hills, California is 18,000 square feet and unfolds over two levels.Mark Angeles It took six years for this $65 million megahome to rise up on a ridge in Los Angeles. Back in 2014, an outdated mansion sat on the half-acre lot at 1108 Wallace Ridge. It was on the market with an asking price of $18 million. Like many of the potential buyers who saw the Beverly Hills listing, developer Michael Chen loved the site, but he saw no value in the 6,300-square-foot house on the property.  "It was a tear-down," Chen said. Nonetheless, the developer and his investor were drawn to it. The property is in the exclusive Trousdale Estates section of the 90210 ZIP code — an area Chen was betting would see a dramatic increase in value. So Chen and his partner pulled the trigger and bought the property for $15 million. They paid almost $2,400 per square foot for a four-bedroom home they planned to bulldoze.Floor-to-ceiling windows in the great room disappear into the wall to reveal the residence's "front-row...

Getty Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes getting annihilated in the Super Bowl. On Sunday, February 7, Robert Saleh was sitting on his couch watching the biggest sporting event on the planet the Super Bowl. That’s been a familiar position for the New York Jets and their fans since they haven’t appeared in the big game in over 52 years. If they ever want to go back they can’t keep making the same mistakes over and over and expecting different results. Saleh was hired by Gang Green late on January 14 and was just getting his feet wet in his new role. Despite being on the job for less than a month, the former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator learned a very valuable lesson from watching Super Bowl 55 that he has already taken to his new team: “Joe Douglas and I share the same belief, obviously it starts with the quarterback but in order to protect the quarterback it starts in the trenches both offensively and defensively,” Saleh said to Rich Eisen. “You saw what happened to...

"The driver — in fear — put the car into reverse, striking the suspect’s car," Mina continued. 3Sanchez's husband, Douglas Mejia, said his kids are distraught at losing their mom days after Mother's DayCredit: WESH That's when one...
As if the party wasn’t enough evidence. Sam Darnold was sent from the Jets to the Panthers last week in a long-rumored and awaited trade that found the 2018 No. 3 overall pick swapping Gotham green for Panther blue. On Monday, Darnold opened up on the trade for the first time since the deal went official, sharing that he feels “relief and excitement” to be a member of the Panthers after a hellish stay with the Jets. “There’s a little bit of both, relief and excitement,” Darnold said. “There’s been so much uncertainty this offseason, not knowing what your future was going to look like, that was hard. But now that I’m in Charlotte, I’m excited, and yeah, I guess I am kind of relieved to be here.” MORE: Joe Douglas does ‘not give two s—s’ if Darnold trade makes him look bad Darnold endured a tumultuous tenure with the Jets from the moment he was drafted, with questionable skill position groups, coaching and organizational management at the forefront of his stay. New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas said the team contemplated keeping Sam Darnold on but ultimately decided it "wouldn’t be the best situation" for the young quarterback’s future.  Douglas addressed the media on Tuesday, just one day after the Jets traded Darnold to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for several draft packs, and explained that with all the changes coming in 2021, moving on would be the best option.  PANTHERS WILL FIND ‘RIGHT PLACE’ FOR TEDDY BRIDGEWATER FOLLOWING SAM DARNOLD TRADE, GM SAYS "Having the No. 2 pick, I think it’s safe to say if our pick was a little bit later we wouldn’t be having this discussion right now. We’d be comfortable moving ahead with Sam," he said.  "Ultimately we felt that wouldn’t be the best situation for Sam, the rookie quarterback, coach Saleh, his staff and the locker room," he added.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM Douglas said that picking a quarterback at No. 2  appears to be "the direction we’re heading" but would not say for sure if they were locked in on BYU’s...

Its release comes as the U.S. undergoes a reckoning on racial injustice in the wake of the police killing of George Floyd last May in Minneapolis. In an interview with The Associated Press, Douglas said when the opportunity...
It’s the kind of offer that could make someone kick the habit.  Tana Douglas had just lit her second cigarette, 30 or so minutes into a conversation with George Harrison, when the former Beatle said: "I would marry you tomorrow if you gave up smoking." It was 1979 and the two were hiding out in the kitchen at a party hosted by Harrison’s neighbor Jon Lord, keyboardist for the heavy metal band Whitesnake. In the living room, a stripper — a birthday present to Harrison that embarrassed him — danced to the Beatles’ "She Loves You." Douglas was the only woman there who wasn’t a stripper. The first female roadie in rock ’n’ roll, she hauled equipment and ran lighting for some of the biggest bands in the world — and often saw them at their worst. Besides Whitesnake, she toured with Elton John ("During his brat years, he did drugs and threw tantrums"), Ozzy Osbourne, INXS, Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Police and the Go-Go’s. For the Jets, it’s time to Joe. General manager Joe Douglas has spent his first year and a half with the team trying to clear bad contracts and acquire draft capital to rebuild. Now, It’s time to stop planning and start doing. The Jets enter free agency with the second-most salary cap space in the NFL, $69.2 million. Their roster is filled with holes that showed up every week in a 2-14 season last year. Douglas wants to build through the draft, but he can’t fill every hole that way. He is going to have to plug some through free agency, which begins Monday, when teams and agents can begin negotiating. Players can’t officially sign until 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The Jets could make a splash signing early in free agency, but don’t expect a spending spree like two years ago, when former GM Mike Maccagnan signed C.J. Mosley, Le’Veon Bell and Jamison Crowder to big deals. Douglas will pounce when he sees value, but he is not going to overpay. Jets GM Joe DouglasAP “Obviously, we’re better positioned than...

More On: new york jets Where Jets can turn for desperately needed running-back upgrade Jets have big decision to make with star safety Sam Darnold’s friends aren’t sure Jets return is what’s best Giants, Jets have starting point for fans’ return The Jets began trimming their roster on Tuesday, when they released defensive lineman Henry Anderson. The move cleared $8.2 million in salary-cap space for the Jets, bringing their estimated total to $76.1 million, the second-most in the NFL according to Over The Cap. The Jets are in position to be big spenders when free agency officially opens March 17. Cutting Anderson was not a move the Jets needed to make to clear space. They already had plenty. But Anderson’s production did not match his salary. Anderson was scheduled to make $8.2 million in 2021 with a salary cap figure of $9.5 million. Anderson had just one-half sack in 2020 and had just one sack in 2019. Moving on from Anderson was an easy call for general manager Joe Douglas since the 29-year-old had no more guaranteed money left...
Cameron Douglas, the adult son of actor Michael Douglas, was freed one year early from his supervised release. A Manhattan judge said Thursday, according to Page Six, that Douglas, 42, earned it because he was able to change "his life trajectory" by staying clean and sober. Douglas was released from prison in August 2016 after nearly seven years behind bars for drug-related offenses. The author will no longer need to reports to U.S. probation officers and does not need to complete any more hours of community service.  CAMERON DOUGLAS RECALLS PASSING AROUND DRUGS AT FAMILY PARTY "With the support of his family and several outstanding professionals he has assumed responsibility for his conduct and his future, and in my view he is on an excellent path," Judge Richard Berman said per the outlet.  Douglas said in the virtual hearing that he's grateful to his family for their continued support.  "I feel really good about where things are going. I had a son — he’s a great little guy. He brings a level of peace to this household," he said.  "I’m just...

Kipp Jones, The Western Journal February 19, 2021 0 Comments Partisan sniping has taken over after millions of Texans were left without power beginning on Monday during a historic winter storm, but a report states that those who were in charge of the Texas power grid might have actually saved people from months of power outages by initiating rolling blackouts. We know from the events of the past week that the fallacies of green energy played a role in what would ultimately leave four million homes and businesses in the Lone Star State without electricity, KXAS-TV reported. Tragically, some in the state died from the cold, as temperatures approached sub-zero lows amid seemingly never-ending snowfall and ice accumulation. CBS News reported the death toll stood at 24 people as of Wednesday. There will be plenty of time for a post-mortem to find out exactly what went wrong, and that will no doubt occur in the months to come. There will be ample time to assign blame as well. But in the immediate, according to a report from The Texas...
