Whoopi Goldberg appears far less apologetic these days over comments that earned her a suspension from The View earlier this year. In an interview this week with the Times of London promoting the movie Till, Goldberg addressed the controversy she sparked earlier this year by claiming the Holocaust was not about race. “Remember who they were killing first. They were not killing racial; they were killing physical. They were killing people they considered to be mentally defective. And then they made this decision,” Goldberg said when trying to explain her original point. She also claimed being Jewish is not outwardly identifiable like being Black is. “It doesn’t change the fact that you could not tell a Jew on a street. You could find me. You couldn’t find them. That was the point I was making,” she said. The View co-host originally apologized for her remarks in a January statement. “The Jewish people around the world always had my support and that will never waiver. I’m sorry for the hurt I have caused,” she wrote at the time. She...

Getty Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham. The Los Angeles Lakers didn’t have much money to make moves this offseason with LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook eating up most of the team’s money. Due to that, the team has mostly relied on bringing in young players on cheap deals. If the Lakers are going to succeed this season, they have to hope some of these young players have breakout years. Luckily, some are off to a great start in the preseason. Matt Ryan was just recently signed to the team a couple of weeks ago and he’s made the most of his time in Los Angeles. In the matchup against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, Ryan scored 20 points and made six of nine 3-pointers. Proving he can be a dependable shooter will go a long way in him getting a roster spot with the regular season starts. Head coach Darvin Ham said as much after the game. “He may have gotten himself a job today,” Ham said of Ryan, via Mike Trudell of...

St. Louis Cardinals fans should be upset with Yadier Molina, despite his years of service. Yadi hasn’t been there for his teammates. It looks like Yadi may be celebrating retirement just a little bit early. Molina has left the team twice this season to recover from his injury in Puerto Rico. The events of that rehab are a little sketchy, considering Molina was videotaped participating in a professional basketball game. Yadi was placed on the restricted list over the weekend due to ‘business matters’, which just sounds sketchy. Those business matters turned out to be his basketball team winning the championship. Cardinals: Yadier Molina going out the wrong wayRedbird Rants’ Greg Simons was rightly not thrilled with this development: “Congratulations to the team and its owner, Molina, but should that really have been his priority when the franchise paying him $10 million this season to play baseball is battling for a division title?  Sure, he’s just missing two games, and he wasn’t going to start one of them, and it’s most likely an unpaid leave, which is typically how restricted...

(CNN)Tuesday morning's Emmy nominations had a little bit for everyone, and that's great. But as with every award show shortlist, not all the beloved series and performances made the cut. Where, for example, was the love for NBC's final season of "This Is Us," the show that made a name for itself just a few years ago with its weepy storytelling and astonishing performances? At one point, this series, which earned 40 Emmy nominations for its prior seasons, was hailed for reviving broadcast TV representation at the cable/streaming-heavy awards show. But as this series took its last breath, Emmy voters ultimately decided to let this series about life and death rest in peace, giving it only one nomination for outstanding original music and lyrics. It previously earned three Emmy awards -- two for outstanding guest actor in a drama (Gerald McRaney in 2017 and Ron Cephas Jones in 2020), one for lead actor in a drama (Sterling K. Brown). It was also awarded one TV Academy honor. "Insecure," meanwhile, would have been a welcomed addition to the stellar outstanding comedy...

Following their 5-3 loss to the Cleveland Guardians on June 19, it is evident that the Los Angeles Dodgers have a Craig Kimbrel problem. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Cleveland Guardians faced off on June 19 to take the three-game series, as they split the first two contests. Both teams were tied entering the ninth inning, and the Dodgers called upon relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel to keep the score intact. That did not happen, as he surrendered two earned runs on three hits and walked two batters, leading to the Dodgers losing 5-3. Amber Heard has been ordered to pay her ex-husband Johnny Depp more than $10million after losing her defamation case against the actor on Wednesday. But how exactly will Heard pay her damages?  The Aquaman star's financial situation is not known, although she earned millions for her work on television and in the Aquaman films. Testimony at the trial has raised questions about whether Heard's pockets are deep enough to fork out such a large sum. There is speculation about Heard's ability to immediately cover the damages, which includes $10million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages. Virginia’s only black governor accused fellow Democrats of taking the African American vote for granted, even as they neglect historically black colleges and tell parents to stay out of their children's classrooms. Douglas Wilder, who served from 1990 to 1994, said Virginia Democrats, including current Gov. Ralph Northam and candidate Terry McAuliffe, have shortchanged the state’s five historically black colleges and universities. "I’ve been talking with the presidents of all of those universities," Wilder, 90, told the Washington Examiner from his home in Richmond. "They’re not happy with what’s going on. And many of them are limited in terms of expressing themselves because they don’t want to be punished.” The HBCU issue is personal for Wilder, a grandson of slaves who was born during the Great Depression and worked his way through Virginia Union University, where he earned a degree in chemistry in 1951. Now, Virginia Union and its four sister schools are in disrepair, with many lacking the resources to attract students and start new programs, he said. “And yet without historical black colleges and universities, many of us...

SACRAMENTO — California Gov. Gavin Newsom and his wife, documentary filmmaker Jennifer Siebel Newsom, reported an income of $1.7 million in 2019, a half-million more than the year before, with most coming from the governor’s wineries, restaurants, hotels and other hospitality businesses. The Newsoms’ vast array of long-held investments, which they put in a blind trust when he took office in 2019, have helped them earn an average of more than $1 million a year since at least 2011. Those earnings have bankrolled an upscale lifestyle that allowed them to purchase a $3.7-million, six-bedroom home just outside of Sacramento in 2018 and pay $288,000 in wages to household employees. On Monday, Newsom allowed reporters to view his 2019 federal and state tax returns, which he filed jointly with his wife, covering his first year as California governor. His 2020 tax returns were not available because, as he did in 2019, the governor filed for an extension with the Internal Revenue Service and he doesn’t expect to file until October, according to Nathan Click, spokesman for Newsom’s political operation. Where are the Chiefs as they start looking to the playoffs? It is hard to call a team that went 14-1 while playing their starters overrated, but that might be a word that comes to mind when thinking of their postseason chances. The Chiefs have not “finished strong,” and every win since the start of November has come by just one score, including tight games against Atlanta, Carolina and Denver. Of course during that stretch Kansas City also beat teams in playoff contention, such as the buccaneers, the Dolphins and the Saints, and even the Raiders back in Week 11 when Las Vegas was still in the playoff...

However, he is eyeing a fight with former interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje. Obviously first fight in the UFC, I’m not going to be sitting here calling out Conor McGregor. I have not earned that yet but I think I match up extremely well against him. “I think you avoid that big left hand in the first round. He starts to get a little more flatfooted in the second round. Finding a silver lining during 2020 hasn't been easy for most people. But if it wasn’t for the pandemic, the Mad Dog Blues Experience blues band wouldn’t have had the opportunity to complete its double-album, Family Reunion 2020, or have its release party at Dazzle on October 15.   Mark “Mad Dog” Friedman — harmonica player, artist, poet, and bandleader — had planned to tour in 2020. On the road, he would commemorate the night he earned his name, Mad Dog — a night of drinking too much MD 20/20 wine and howling at the moon in college. But then the pandemic hit. A man purported to be a Seattle police officer penned an open letter to the city, insisting that he was "broken" over the fact that Seattle's citizens turned their backs on the police department. The letter subsequently went viral on the internet. What are the details? Conservative radio host Jason Rantz of KTTH-AM shared the letter on Monday, writing, "A Seattle police officer shared with me a heartbreaking letter explaining why they are 'broken' after so many years protecting the public." "This is an officer who has committed much of their adult life to serving a community that, right now, is doing little to support police," Rantz writes. "This officer is 'broken' due to recent experiences as activists demonize cops and the Seattle City Council pushes to defund the department by 50%." Rantz insists, "This is an officer you don't want to lose." The now-viral letter begins, "I am a police officer in your city. I say your city because I don't live in the geographic boundaries that make up 'Seattle.' My...

Nearly four years after it began, the conspiracy theory is popping up all over the place on the short-form video app and Gen Z hangout spot TikTok.  Pizzagate has become massive on TikTok, reaching plenty of young people right as the reality around them—thanks to the pandemic, police violence and related unrest, and a new Netflix documentary highlighting Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes—seems more and more unhinged. The #Pizzagate hashtag has earned more than 69 million views on the platform, while related hashtags have earned several millions more.
