The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge dropped their children Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four, at their new school today - and the youngsters appeared to be on their best behaviour. Arriving at Lambrook School near Ascot in Berkshire, alongside their parents Prince William and Kate Middleton, both 40, the young royals were very polite and shook hands with Headmaster Jonathan Perry ahead of entering the building. The children looked adorable in their navy and white school uniforms and they respectfully greeted their headmaster.  The royal children were today attending a 'settling in afternoon' - an annual event to welcome new starters and their families to the school on the day before the new school term begins.  They will officially start at the school tomorrow, after the Cambridges set up a new home at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor's Home Park. WE all know one player doesn’t make a team but they can certainly go a long way to breaking it. So the last thing Erik ten Hag needed when he walked into Manchester United was Cristiano Ronaldo trying to get out. 4Cristiano Ronaldo will still be the best trainer at the club if he stays at Man UtdCredit: Getty 4Erik ten Hag is having to deal with the wantaway strikerCredit: Reuters I know from experience how damaging it can be to the dressing room when one of your senior men is unhappy. But if Ronaldo stays — and I don’t see clubs falling over themselves to sign him — don’t expect any problems with what United will get from him. He’ll still train better than anyone else and he’ll still be the first in and last out, because that’s just what he has always done. And whenever he plays, he will never give anything but his best — it’s what makes...

BOSTON (CBS) — The Celtics offense is at its best when just about everyone touches the ball on a given possession. Keeping the ball moving and seeking out the best possible shot is what really sparked the team’s turnaround in the second half of the regular season, and it continues to be Boston’s best path to success in the playoffs. The Celtics have talked at length about not just finding good looks, but making the extra pass to turn that into a great look. One possession in the second quarter of Boston’s Game 2 win over the Bucks on Tuesday night fully illustrated that fact. The Celtics had several good looks in the possession, but never settled and went hunting for the best look possible. Boston made six passes in their half-court set, keeping the Milwaukee defense discombobulated and guessing where the ball would end up next. The Chicago Bulls faced off against the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night at the United Center to begin a stretch of five straight home games, trying to put themselves in good position for a playoff run. They’ll have one more road game — April 10 at the Minnesota Timberwolves — before a much-anticipated return to the postseason for the first time since 2017. Building some momentum is paramount for a team that has saved its worst for last. After going 39-21 and battling through some difficult injuries, the Bulls regressed significantly, losing 11 of 16 games and slowly sinking in the Eastern Conference standings. Hopes of finishing as the third or fourth seed in the East and earning home-court advantage for at least the first round appear remote. But hanging on to the No. 5 spot over the Toronto Raptors should be attainable with a strong finish. No matter their opponent in the first round — the Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics or Philadelphia 76ers — the Bulls will enter the playoffs as huge underdogs, thanks to their...

Two of today’s most acclaimed international filmmakers — Pedro Almodovar and Asghar Farhadi — prove they still wield a master touch in this week’s batch of new releases. Here’s our roundup. “A Hero”: A seemingly good deed — giving back a missing bag of gems — turns into a viral sensation with neighbors, strangers and strategizers praising, sometimes co-opting the Good Samaritan “act” of Rahim (Amir Jadidi), who’s just out of jail after serving a sentence for not paying a debt. Iran-born filmmaker Asghar Farhadi (“The Salesman” and “A Separation”) takes a clear-cut, black-and-white premise and shades it with a whole lot of moral gray areas as circumstances unravel for Rahim, who has a girlfriend and a disabled son. True to form, Farhadi swims into these moral questions without being shrill or even choosing sides. That nonjudgmental approach makes this a wiser, richer story that speaks to the volatile mood of our world, where assigning blame and spewing outrage drown out common decency, compassion and the understanding that we all make mistakes. The final scene is crushing. Details: 3½ stars...

A young Vice President Kamala Harris was one bloodied by a schoolyard bully for attempting to stand up for her childhood best friend, a new book excerpt revealed on Monday. That childhood best friend, Stacey Johnson Batiste, is releasing a memoir titled Friends From the Beginning: The Berkeley Village that Raised Kamala and Me on growing up in California side-by-side with the future trailblazer. Batiste wrote that her and Harris's mothers were some of the 'early activists' who shaped Berkeley, California's ultra-liberal, artistic reputation into what it is today. 'We were a happy, loud, and vibrant crew, led by mothers who were both petite, but who loomed large,' she wrote of her earliest memories meeting Harris and her sister.  At the time they met Batiste was five and the vice president, 57, was nearly five. According to earlier reports she and Harris were born at the same hospital in Oakland, California. DailyMail.com obtained an exclusive excerpt from the upcoming book, published November 16 by 12 Books.  She said their mothers enrolled them in Berkwood Hedge School, a private school that Batiste...

Getty Matthew Stafford throws the football in the Rams' Thursday, October 7, road win at Seattle. The buzz surrounding the Los Angeles Rams through five games has been the arm of Matthew Stafford and how he’s changed the landscape of the offense. Rams legend and Super Bowl winner Kurt Warner has recognized the difference, saying on his “Study Ball” You Tube video that Stafford is making the drop back chunk play throws that Stafford’s predecessor Jared Goff couldn’t make. Pro Football Focus writer Seth Galina wrote on September 21 that the Rams “can create explosive plays out of thin air with Stafford’s arm strength and willingness to push the ball downfield.” Cooper Kupp and recently, Robert Woods, have had breakout games as the normal 1-2 combo for the Rams offense through Stafford. But here’s where the Rams offense are most dangerous per QB1: When the football gets spread around. “I’m trying to do my best and spread the ball around because I do think when we’re spreading the ball around and the defense has to cover...

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp Many large corporations said, after the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, that they would stop campaign contributions to the Republicans who then voted to block the results of the election—only to find a way to make the vow meaningless. Will the corporations now speaking out against voter suppression do the same thing, or will they stand by their support for democracy? It remains an open question, and one that can only have a good answer with continuing public pressure in support of voting rights. After Georgia Republicans passed a sweeping set of voting restrictions, major Georgia companies like Delta Airlines and Coca-Cola condemned the new law, and as Texas Republicans pushed their own set of restrictions, major Texas companies like American Airlines and Dell Technologies got out ahead of things and went public with their opposition. Then Major League Baseball pulled the All-Star Game and draft out of Georgia. And Republicans went to war with all of them. Georgia Republicans nearly passed a bill that would have cost Delta tens of millions of dollars in additional taxes—something they...
It’s almost unsayable. Unthinkable, even: that couples in their 60s, 70s and even 80s are enjoying great, mind-blowing sex. It is 50 shades of grey. Literally. Why am I even bringing this topic up? Shouldn’t I be writing about the fact that, aged 62, I’ve taken up knitting, baking and armchair yoga? A bit of companionable hand-holding. Separate bedrooms. A floor-length nightgown with a pie-crust collar and a hot-water bottle. Well, we can blame Felicity Kendal, the acceptable face of sexuality in the Seventies as Barbara Good in The Good Life, but who earlier this week was quoted thus: ‘Physicality is so important. I don’t think things change because you are older. I know from couples my age that sex is as important to them as it always was.’ Yes! Yes! Yes! You might need reminding that Ms Kendal is 74. Her partner is 82. You might already be forming ageist jokes in your head at this news: creaking hips, the fact both probably wear hearing aids, so will doubtless have to talk dirty very very loudly indeed. When I tested Asus ROG’s Zephyrus G14 a year ago, I was blown away. Not only was it just over 3.5 pounds — a weight unheard of for a system with both a powerful processor and a discrete GPU — but it ran even the most demanding games at much better frame rates than any gaming laptop we’d ever seen at that size. And then everything else about it — the keyboard, the touchpad, the audio, the battery life — was also great. The G14 wasn’t just better than other gaming laptops in those areas: it was better than most other laptops at its price point, period. Given the G14’s resounding success, it was only a matter of time before Asus put it in a 15-inch chassis. The formula wasn’t broken, and Asus didn’t fix it — Asus just made it bigger. While I had some questions when I heard the G15 was on the way (could it deliver the same combination of portability, battery life, and performance as a 14-inch product? Could it do that without costing over...

After months of planning, the U.S. government's "warp speed" rollout of COVID-19 vaccines has instead progressed at a snail's pace, threatening to prolong local lockdowns and increase the virus death toll in America.  Yet one month into the effort — the largest inoculation drive in American history — some states are moving quickly to vaccinate their populations, according to government data reviewed by CBS MoneyWatch. Other parts of the country are lagging badly.  West Virginia has distributed nearly 90% of its supply of the the first vaccine shot and is expected to be done inoculating nursing care residents with two doses by the end of January. Check out an app that finds the best performers at different stats (points, rebounds, assists, etc.) by their dimensions (i.e. their height, weight, and age). Who does the most at their dimensions? Ask 10 basketball fans to name the best pound-for-pound scorer in NBA history, and at least nine will respond with Allen Iverson. He’s as good an answer as any — the 6-foot superstar used a dizzying array of dribble moves to turn all-NBA defenders into traffic cones throughout the early-2000’s. All that said, this app is a lot of fun to play around with, and I encourage you to give it a whirl and see what interesting things you can come across on your own. Finally, I want to give shout outs to Andrew Patton, whose Pareto app was the inspiration for this project, and Todd Whitehead, whose advice helped me make this app usable and whose work continues to set the standard for visualizing basketball information. Texas couple of 30 years die of Covid-19 within minutes of one other while holding hands Fauci tells Americans not to see their kids for Christmas ESPN’s Mike Shiffman talks their NBA coverage this year: “The production will be at its best when we can travel people.” The 2020-21 NBA regular season is set to begin Dec. 23, but it’s going to be a very different season than normal thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. He’s still very smart, he’s still trying to throw the ball downfield, he still has the weapons. We’ll have our hands full,” Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu said. “He’s played against our system a number of times, even going back to New England,” Mathieu added. “He’s familiar with us. Now we have to get familiar with him and the weapons he has.” Brady won two of the previous three matchups against Mahomes, including an overtime thriller in the AFC championship game two seasons ago. The six-time Super Bowl champion played poorly in home losses...

(KDKA)- The Steelers are 6-0 for the first time since 1978 and for just the second time in franchise history. The defense ranks second in Football Outsiders’ efficiency metric, DVOA. The offense, with Ben Roethlisberger back under center, is averaging over 30 points per game, sixth in the league. Yet, despite all of that, NFL on CBS play by play man Ian Eagle thinks the team can reach another, even higher gear. “I don’t even think we’ve seen them at their best. We have not seen major splash plays yet from the Steelers. That’s still in their arsenal and at some point, they’re going to hit on those. They have been very controlled in how they run their offense,” said Eagle in an interview with CBS Local’s Ryan Mayer. “I just think Ben is playing some of the best football of his career. Despite a couple of mistakes last week, I just feel like his presence in that lineup gives them this real genuine feeling that they could win the whole thing.” That point rings true. The Steelers are 26th...
An artificial intelligence-equipped robot named 'Curly' beat one of the world's best curling teams by quickly adapting to changes in the ice, its developers claim. Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice towards a circular target, with the aim of the stones come to a rest as close to the centre as possible. The sport involves constantly changing and uncontrollable environmental conditions - providing the perfect 'test bed' for an AI-driven robot. Curly throws the stone but doesn't do the job of brushing away loose ice in front of the stone as it moves, known as 'sweeping'. The robot won three out of four official matches against the Korean Olympic silver-medal winning women's team. It was developed by researchers from Korea University, who said this development narrows the gap between computer simulators and the real world.  It's hoped the deep learning techniques developed for Curly could be applied to other robots that need to work 'in the real world' and adapt to changing conditions.  Curly, who delivers the stone but doesn't sweep, won...

‘TWO FAMILIES’: Wolfie with dad Edo Princess Beatrice will be a ‘doting stepmother’, friends said last night. Her husband Edo already has a four-year-old son, Christopher Woolf Mapelli Mozzi – known as Wolfie – who was both best man and page boy at Friday’s Royal Wedding. Wolfie’s mother is architect Dara Huang, 38, who was previously engaged to Edo. Beatrice becomes the first ‘blood princess’ – as her father Andrew calls his two daughters – to become a stepmother. A friend said: ‘Bea is totally into the stepmum role. She’s very concerned about getting it right and making every effort to be a second mother to Wolfie. ‘She’s totally devoted to him and talks about him all the time. ‘She’s ensured there are loads of pictures of him up in their house, so he feels like he has two families, and they do get on well. ‘She has instigated a lot of that, rather than Dara. Bea has always been really close to Edo’s family, so it’s natural that Wolfie should become part of hers. He’s a super little...

The Tarah earbuds are a fantastic workout pair. They’re IPX7-certified, so they’re sweat- and water-resistant, and the tips are attached to each other with the company’s Speed Cinch cord. Yes, that means they’re not truly wireless, but the cord could make them easier to find in your workout bag and could help ensure they don’t get lost while you’re in the middle of a run. Tarah can last for up to six hours, and it has a quick charge feature that gives you an hour of battery life if you leave it plugged in for 10 minutes. It also has interchangeable tips that you can switch out for the ones with the best fit. The earbuds connect to the Jaybird app, giving you a way to tweak EQ levels and to create custom settings you can save to the earbuds. Plus, the pair works with Siri or Google Assistant, depending on which voice assistant you use. The earbuds have been available for $45 a few times in the past, but this is the lowest price we’ve seen for...
