A Utah theater director was fired for lying extensively about his resume, only to be paid out $175,000 after he claimed to suffer from a compulsive lying disorder. Christopher Massimine resigned from the Pioneer Theater Company at the University of Utah in 2021 after the school confronted him about numerous fabrications on his resume, including a phony humanitarian award he claimed to have won. Massimine's lying went far deeper than mere flubs on his resume, according to his and his wife's account, and comprised a life of mistruths and outright fabrications that included claims he had climbed Mount Everest, was a chair at MENSA International, and even that he'd had an affair with Kourtney Kardashian. The diagnosis that his lying was a mental illness led Massimine and the University of Utah to reach a settlement agreeing that neither had committed any wrongdoing in his ousting which resulted in his...

Researchers found that at least 23 percent of people in the U.S. sought medical treatment for new conditions they hadn't had before contacting the virus. What's more, about one-fifth of these patients were asymptomatic when they tested for COVID-19. The team, from the the nonprofit FAIR Health says the results show so-called 'long-haul COVID,' which can occur in not just those who are hospitalized but also among those with mild illnesses. 'Even as the Covid-19 pandemic wanes, long-haul Covid persists as a public health issue affecting many Americans,' FAIR Health's president Robin Gelburd told AFP. 'The findings in our new study shed significant light on this emerging issue for all individuals who have long-haul COVID, as well as for policy makers, providers, payors and researchers.'  Researchers looked at two million people diagnosed with COVID-19 between February and December 2020 and found 23.2% sought medical care for at least one new symptom 30 days after diagnosis.
