A HAIRDRESSER has revealed the correct way we should all be washing our hair - plus the part of the process everyone seems to forget along the way. TikTok account Ventura Hair Studio, whose profile is @venturahairstudio, shared a video to their account titled: “Have you been washing your hair correctly?” 2There's some important things to remember when washing your hairCredit: Getty They then continued to demonstrate the right way to shampoo in an easy step-by-step tutorial.  First, they said to “wet your hair thoroughly” and showed how they used a small shower head to ensure the entire head - from the roots to the ends - was ready to be shampooed.  Next they said it was important to “lather the shampoo before applying to your hair”, rubbing it between their hands, rather than putting directly onto the locks.  The third step is to apply liberally on the roots down to the mid-section, massaging the liquid in, before heading to the next step, which is to “scrub, scrub, scrub.”  Read More in HaircareFRIZZ TAMER I’m a hairstylist, you’ve been putting...
In the coming months, conservatives will be trained by their favorite Fox News media figures to obsess about the potential of a RINO takeover of Congress and the coming presidential election, even though the latter won’t even be relevant, policy-wise, until 2025. But the reality is that Republicans control trifecta supermajorities in a number of states today and will only expand that dominance next year. Come January, they have the ability to make those states de facto sanctuaries for our rights and values – if only we focus our pressure on elected state Republicans and educate them concerning the enormity of their power. It’s time to use it. In his national design for governance, Madison explained the state vs. federal arrangement in Federalist #45 as follows: “The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the Federal Government, are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State Governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will for...

Outgoing Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) said on Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that it will be “hard to govern” if Republicans do not win 230 seats in the House in the upcoming midterm elections because people like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) were not part of a governing majority. Anchor Chuck Todd said, “Do you fear that this next House Republican majority could lead us to default?” Upton said, “A lot depends on what happens in November. I do believe that the House is going to flip. In fact, I talked to Charlie Cook earlier in the morning. He believes that as well.” Todd said, “A small majority, does that make it more likely? Is that more trouble?” Upton said, “More trouble. That’s why one of the vice-chairs there is so important as we try to have some glue on the fabric to deal with issues we have to deal with, be it immigration, be it energy, be it inflation. the debt ceiling also is going to be an early, early test in the next Congress.” Todd asked, “Can...
SAN FRANCISCO — Barely 10 hours since Antoan Richardson stood in the tunnels of Oracle Park and described the “undertones of racism” he interpreted in comments from Padres third base coach Mike Shildt, the two coaches on Wednesday morning embraced in a hug at home plate, then explained that it was all a misunderstanding. “In no way do I believe that Shildt is a racist,” Richardson said. “I could’ve handled it different with my verbiage,” Shildt said. Nonetheless, it was a misunderstanding that led to Richardson’s ejection, a matter than has gone unexplained by crew chief Greg Gibson and not been resolved despite the Giants petitioning the league office. The orchestrated reconciliation was required after the heated emotions in Tuesday’s contest boiled over when, according to Richardson, Shildt yelled toward the Giants’ dugout to “control that m—–f—–,” which Richardson, who is a native of the Bahamas, said “reeked of undertones of racism.” With tempers already running high as the Giants refused to lay off the gas in an eventual 13-2 win, Shildt turned and stared into the Giants dugout, prompting...

The man, who had not been formally identified as of press time, had fallen from the roof of the 10-story building, according to Building Department records. Afro-Boricua women drumming in Puerto Rco I’ve been watching conversations on social media surrounding the need to include Caribbean History, along with Afro-Latin American history, as part of what we celebrate during Black History Month. Of course from my perspective, Black History needs to be celebrated 365 days a year. That’s a different discussion, which I raised in Tuesday’s Black Kos. The online discussions have become heated, due to trolling from a variety of accounts—some bots, and others real people who adhere to the philosophy of American Descendants of Slaves (ADOS) and a new iteration of same, “Foundational Black Americans,” founded by filmmaker and YouTube personality Tariq Nasheed. ADOS was exposed several years ago as being linked to and funded by the now-deceased John Tanton, who founded the racist, xenophobic, anti-immigrant Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). ROME (AP) — Archaeologists in southern Italy have discovered ancient warrior helmets and the ruins of a painted brick wall at a site that might have been a forerunner of a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena, officials said Tuesday. Italian Culture Minister Dario Franceschini said the remains dug up at the popular tourist site of Velia were found on what had been an acropolis of one of Magna Graecia’s most important cities. Velia is 40 kilometers (25 miles) southeast of Paestum, a much-visited site of ancient Greek temples. The recently completed excavation at Velia unearthed a pair of helmets in good condition, the remains of a building, vases with the Greek inscription for “sacred” and metal fragments of what possibly were weapons, the culture ministry said. State Museums Director Massimo Osanna, who formerly had long directed excavations at Pompeii, Italy’s most celebrated excavated site, said the area explored at Velia probably contained relics of offerings made to Athena, the mythological Greek goddess of war and wisdom, after a key naval battle in the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea. In the...

Melania Trump is set to auction off the 'iconic' white hat she wore for her husband's first official state visit from a foreign head of state as part of an 'important' and 'one-of-a-kind' $250,000 sale commemorating the former President's milestone. The 51-year-old former First Lady announced the launch of her 'Head of State' auction on Tuesday - just weeks after selling her first-ever non-fungible token (NFT) - revealing three different items that will be sold off together, including a second NFT created by Marc-Antoine Coulon, the same man behind her first digital portrait.  In addition to the wide-brimmed white hat worn by Melania to welcome French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte to the White House in April 2018, the auction also features a watercolor painting by Coulon of the former First Lady wearing the bold accessory, as well as a moving digital NFT version of the artwork.  All three items included in the auction - which opens on January 11 with a starting bid of $250,000, or 1415.86 Solana (SOL), a form of cryptocurrency - are signed by Melania,...

Martin Truex Jr. took a different approach by saying that the film is “sorta” a Christmas movie. “It’s on Christmas, right?” asked Camping World Truck Series champion Ben Rhodes. “He’s on Christmas or something? One of the first steps is recruiting participants. “You could ask me as a father would I give it to my children? or as a grandfather would I give it...
What you need to know about the Nobel Prizes 1:04 (CNN) – David Julius and Artem Padaputian were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for “discovering receptors for temperature and touch.” This award is one of the most coveted global recognitions and provides entry to one of the most prestigious clubs in the world. The Nobel Council said in a statement on Monday that “this year’s Nobel laureates in physics or medicine have explained how heat, cold and touch can trigger signals in our nervous system. The hoax-promoting Sen. Josh Hawley will go down in history as a traitor to his country. He won't be alone. A new CNN poll shows the nation remains politically divided, and by "politically divided" that primarily means Republicans continue to lurch farther and farther into hoax-promoting, anti-democratic extremism. Two specific poll questions are worth calling out. The first is that about 6 in 10 self-identified Republicans claim to believe that "supporting Donald Trump" is either a "very" or "somewhat" important part of "what being a Republican means to you." This is a bit weird, because Donald Trump is ... not in office. He has no current position. He is retired, bumbling around at Mar-a-Lago regaling wedding guests with stories of how the world has wronged him, interspersing rounds of Florida golf with promotional appearances at cult meet-ups and pay-per-view boxing matches. Donald Trump does not currently need any "support," but the question has a nearly identical response breakdown to a much more interesting poll question that this question probably acts as a one-to-one proxy for. That question? Whether "believing that Donald Trump...

Sign up for the free Mother Jones newsletter.Donald Trump definitely did not win the 2020 presidential election, but nearly six in 10 GOP voters polled by CNN say it’s at least somewhat important for Republicans to continue believing that he did. The poll, conducted over the past month, found that 36 percent Republicans and Republican-leaning independents said insisting Trump won is a “very important” part of being a Republican. Another 23 percent said it’s “somewhat important.” There are a couple different ways to look at this. As CNN notes, those numbers are actually significantly lower than the percentage of Republicans who pointed to “more traditional partisan markers” as core parts of their political identity. I guess that’s what passes for good news about the Party of Lincoln these days: Most Republicans also consider support for Trump — and his false claim to have won the 2020 election — to be an important part of their own partisan identity alongside support for conservative principles. About six in 10...
Joshua Roberts / Getty Images A new poll from CNN finds that a majority of Republicans think that believing Donald Trump won in 2020 (which he did not) is an important tenet for being a Republican. The poll, released on Sunday, finds the Republicans polled almost evenly divided between whether Trump should be the nominee in 2024. 51 percent said they would have a better chance with him leading the ticket, while 49 percent said another nominee would be better. The poll also includes a list of items for people in both parties to say how important it is to what being a Republican or Democrat means to them. For example, 93 percent of Democrats say believing “that the federal government should do more to help people” is an important trait, while believing the government “should have less power” is important for 86 percent of Republicans. One of the beliefs listed for Republicans is the false assertion Trump won in 2020. 59 percent believe that to be an important part of being in the GOP. 36 percent said it was...
PORTSMOUTH — When the COVID-19 vaccine first became available, Tanner Preston wasn’t sure if he wanted it. First of all, he’s young. Much younger than the people who were being hospitalized or dying in the early stages of the pandemic. Other people needed it more, he reasoned, so he could afford to wait. “I kept thinking, I don’t need this right now,” he said. There was another factor, too. He has a severe fear of needles. He always has. “I’ve gotten out of getting the flu shot for the last six or so years because I’m terrified of needles,” he said. As the virus continued to spread, however, his thought process changed. He saw other people becoming sick with COVID-19, including some who were immunocompromised. He’s a college student at Capital University and it seemed like more and more students living in his building were testing positive. “A lot of the guys on my floor started getting it and we all share a shower and a bathroom,” he explained. “That just started to weigh on my mind.” He also realized...

Yankees’ Luke Voit is coming along at the plate and remains an important part of the team Andres Chavez August 10, 2021 Share on facebook Facebook Share on twitter Twitter Share on reddit Reddit New York Yankees’ first baseman Luke Voit has been injured for a large portion of the season. Knee and oblique ailments have robbed him some valuable playing time, and his issues staying healthy surely played a role in the Bombers landing Anthony Rizzo, who plays the same position. Understandably, each time Voit has returned to the Yankees after a lengthy injury absence, it takes some time for him to find his stride. Getting his health back is one thing, but timing needs to be found on the go. He returned to the lineup on August 8, the day the Yankees announced Rizzo was a positive COVID-19 case. Voit went 0-for-4 with a couple of strikeouts that day, and he looked off even though he had been taking some at-bats on a rehab assignments in the minor leagues. ...

A majority of the D.C.-area has been vaccinated, but COVID-19 testing still is a priority. “Despite the fact that we are making significant progress in the fight against COVID, testing is still an important part of that fight,” said Jon Weinstein, director of the Maryland COVID-19 Recovery Program. People should consider getting tested if they’re experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, regardless of vaccination status, he said. “Especially if you’re not vaccinated — you need to get a test.” Testing is highly recommended for people who’ve attended large events or gatherings. “Even if you’re wearing a mask and you’re in one of these large environments where there’s no social distancing — most people are not wearing masks — we highly recommended to also get a test within three or four days after that event to ensure that you haven’t, in some fashion, been exposed to or contracted COVID,” Weinstein said. People who’ve been in close contact with someone confirmed to have COVID-19 are advised to get tested. COVID-19 testing sites can be found online for Maryland, Virginia and the District. The mayor of Miami-Dade County announced on Friday that she has signed an order to demolish what remains standing of the Champlain Towers South. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said during her press conference that the death toll has now risen to 22. 126 people are still unaccounted for. The search-and-rescue efforts have been underway for the past week, and Levine Cava said they’re working to “expand the search area as soon as it is deemed safe to do so by the engineers.” The mayor then said she signed an emergency order “authorizing the demolition of the building in the interest of public health and safety, as soon as the engineers sign off on the next steps to begin the demolition process.” It’s important to note that we’re still evaluating all possible impacts and determining the best timeline to actually begin the demolition. Signing the order now is important so that it can help us move quickly, as soon as we’ve decided the best methodology to demolish and the specific start date. Our top priority remains search-and-rescue. I want to be...
On Thursday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated that she is “sure” President Joe Biden agrees with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley’s comments about wanting to understand “white rage” and that Biden “agrees that this should be a part of what we should make sure kids understand and learn in their classrooms about our history, the good, the bad, the ugly, all of it.” Psaki said, “I thought they were hugely powerful and hugely powerful from him, right? And, look, as a white woman myself, I think it’s important for us all to be self-reflective about what we’re teaching our children and how we’re engaging with the next generation and acknowledge that we have some dark history in our country. Racism still exists. There’s a dark history of slavery in our country and it’s important our kids know about that. That’s something the president also feels. And I think Gen. She refused to take part in the press conference afterwards, saying she didn't want to 'subject' herself to journalists because they 'doubt' her and she wanted to protect her mental health Tennis veterans Patrick McEnroe and Billie Jean King weighed into the row over Naomi Osaka's decision to boycott the press at the French Open, saying it's part of her job to speak to the press as the highest paid female athlete ever, even if it makes her uncomfortable.  The row began on Wednesday ahead of the French Open when Osaka, 23, posted on social media that she would not be speaking to the media afterwards playing because she wanted to protect her mental health and not subject herself to 'people who doubt her'.  'I'm not going to do any press during Roland Garros. I've often felt that people have no regard for athletes' mental health and this rings very true whenever I see a press conference or partake in one. We're sat there and asked questions that we've been asked multiple times before or asked...
One quirky but important part the Islanders game five win Rob Taub May 25, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditWhen historians look back on the Islanders’ incredible game five win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, they will be quick to point out the turning points that shifted the contest. Most of them will probably be the ten-bell stops by goalie Ilya Sorokin. But there’s another moment that can’t go unnoticed. Jordan Eberle’s goal midway through the third period not only was the Isles to first shot on net of the period but helped them tie the game and eventually set forth the battle that would take place the rest of regulation and in overtime. “Once we scored that [third period] goal [from Eberle], I felt pretty good about our team,” head coach Bary Trotz said following the win. “It was one of those nights, where when we got it tied up and it went to overtime I was thinking that this was going to be our night.” Eberle’s goal Monday night was his second of the...
Former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was one of several Trump administration officials who resigned in the wake of the Capitol riots on January 6th. DeVos’ resignation letter was pretty direct in addressing then-President Donald Trump’s irresponsible rhetoric. “We should be highlighting and celebrating your Administration’s many accomplishments on behalf of the American people,” she said. “Instead, we are left to clean up the mess caused by violent protesters overrunning the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to undermine the people’s business. That behavior was unconscionable for our country. There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is the inflection point for me.” Fox News’ Martha MacCallum brought up that letter in her interview with DeVos this week, and asked her to reflect on the words she wrote at the time. “I think that we should all continue to aspire to be a more perfect union and that we need to be talking about ways to bring people together,” DeVos responded. She stood by her decision to resign and the letter she wrote, lamenting, “We had...

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has been saying in the past week that everyone should be getting the vaccine, and he has repeatedly appealed directly to hesitant Republican men. In comments on Monday, McConnell reiterated that message and said, “I’m a Republican man, and I want to say to everyone: we need to take this vaccine.” The Biden White House Twitter account shared the clip and tweeted, “Senator McConnell is right — and we thank him for his leadership. It’s important every American do their part and get vaccinated when it’s their turn.” Senator McConnell is right — and we thank him for his leadership. WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Australia announced Wednesday it would begin building its own guided missiles in close collaboration with the U.S. as it seeks to boost its defense capabilities. Citing the “changing global environment,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison said it would partner with a weapons manufacturer to build the missiles in a plan that would create thousands of jobs as well as export opportunities. Morrison said it would spend 1 billion Australian dollars ($761 million) on the plan as part of a huge 10-year investment in defense and the defense industry. “Creating our own sovereign capability on Australian soil is essential to keep Australians safe,” Morrison said. Australia is part of the “Five Eyes” intelligence alliance with the U.S., Canada, Britain and New Zealand. “We will work closely with the United States on this important initiative to ensure that we understand how our enterprise can best support both Australia’s needs and the growing needs of our most important military partner,” Defense Minister Peter Dutton said. Sesame Street introduced two Black Muppets this week as part of its initiative to teach children "The ABC's of Racial Literacy."  According to the "Sesame Street in Communities" website, "racial literacy" is defined as "the knowledge, skills, and awareness needed to talk thoughtfully about race and racism; this naturally includes having a rich vocabulary including terms such as race, racism, prejudice, ally, upstander, and so on." In addition, the site says, racial literacy means having "the ability to identify racism when it happens," "having strategies to counter or cope with racism," and "understanding the role racism plays in society." "You hold great power to help children better understand this complicated, flawed, often unfair world. Your words matter, and talking honestly and directly about race and diversity is the beginning of racial literacy," Sesame Street in Communities urges parents and guardians. "Even if children don’t understand the nuances of the words, being open to learning new words and understanding ideas from others’ perspectives is always helpful." By: KDKA-TV News Staff NEW WILMINGTON (KDKA) — Dozens of people turned out for a Black Lives Matter rally at Westminster College on Sunday. The rally and march were contained to campus, but organizers say it was important to bring the campus community and others together. “It’s everyone coming together. It’s a predominantly white campus and a lot of the minorities don’t feel like their voices are heard and this is a way to bring the situations in the world to light at a campus like this,” Journey Washington said. (Photo Credit: KDKA) The organizers say they felt it was important to have a rally like this, given the recent shooting in Atlanta and the rise in hate crimes over the past year.
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN (WABC) -- A Downtown Brooklyn home that is believed to have been part of the Underground Railroad has been purchased by the City of New York. The Landmarks Preservation Commission last month designated 227 Duffield Street as a historical landmark. It comes after local activists fought for its preservation for decades, arguing it marks a historic safety route for escaped slaves. The home is the last remaining original structure on a block co-named 'Abolitionist Place,' because several anti-slavery activists lived there in the mid-1800s.In 2007, Attorney General Letitia James passed legislation to rename the block, and successfully stopped the city from tearing down the structure for new development. In July 2020, she testified before the Landmarks Preservation Commission about the importance of designating the site as a landmark and protecting it for generations to come."Brooklyn's 227 Abolitionist Place, formerly Duffield Street, represents one of the most important ties that New York has to our abolitionist roots, roots that every Black New Yorker is proud of," she said. "During this time of national reckoning over the legacy of slavery and continued injustice...
On Friday’s broadcast of PBS’ “Washington Week,” Associated Press Washington Bureau Chief Julie Pace argued that sometimes members of the press hurt themselves by becoming the story, it’s dangerous for democracy if people don’t trust independent news sources, and President Trump has a deliberate strategy to undermine the media. Pace said that Trump’s attacks on the media have hit a new level. She added, “We in the media don’t have a lot of friends. And sometimes we do ourselves a disservice by making ourselves the story here, instead of emphasizing the role that we play in our democracy and the important function that we have in our politics.” She continued, “I do think that if the public doesn’t trust what they hear from independent news sources, that puts our democracy in a really precarious position. And I do think this is very strategic on the president’s part. I have said this before. I think this is as much a part of his agenda as the wall and Obamacare and tax reform, is undermining the media so that when there are...

New York : It seems that the decision of Eugenio Derbez adopting five Tik Tokers as his children was not amusing to his family, as only days after Alessandra rosaldo will complain about not knowing what things to buy them in the supermarket, now they are Aislinn, Vadhir and José Eduardo who expressed their annoyance to him. The comedian shared a video on Instagram in which he is seen working, when suddenly his older children appear and tell him that there is no way they are going to allow intruders to be part of his family and warn him that they would even be able to take off their surname if your intentions are carried out. “Hey dad, we need to talk about something very important. It is urgent because we already know that you are adopting who knows how many children, as if the ones you have were not enough. It is very important that before adopting any other guy you adopt the three of us, we want to stop being your children so that you adopt us....
One of the sectors that suffered the greatest changes in the midst of the pandemic was the creation and promotion of events. The virtual world caught up with and surpassed the sector, a trend that will continue and that will require brands to find the best event agencies to embrace the new normal. This is where the 2021 Shopping Guide takes on special relevance. In principle it is fair to recognize that with the new conditions, a new player entered the stage. We are talking about digital events that, due to the circumstances, could become the norm for many brands in the following months even when the containment measures seem to take more relaxed tints. In the midst of the new normal, digital or virtual events have gained relevance in an important way, just take a look at the figures recently shared by LinkedIn and Vision Critical to understand that up to 67 percent of marketers have increased their investment in this format in recent months. The truth is that investments are not enough to guarantee success. Brands will need...

New York Yankees: The Yankee bench will take on a more important role: Part 1 By: William Parlee February 15, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditWe all know that the New York Yankees have gone through a couple of years of far too many injuries affecting regular players playing time. Although the health situation going into spring training, which starts in just a few days if much rosier than last year, it is not reasonable to assume it will remain that way. The simple fact is that injuries are a permanent part of the game that can’t be avoided team-wide. These injuries lead to the use of backup pitchers and backup players that sit on the bench or have to be called up from the minor league to be used short term or even long term. We all know that, but this season even without any long-term injuries, the backup players will take on an even more important role that could be the difference in success or the season’s failure. The New York Yankees may be in...
