Getty Julius Randle could be the key to a Knicks rebuild. The New York Knicks are looking at a big Julius Randle contract next season as his four-year, $117 million extension kicks in. This wouldn’t be a bad thing if he kept his All-Star and All-NBA form, but last season was a regression across the board for the Knicks star. After being cheered for a whole year, Randle spent much of last season drawing the ire of fans. He’s still young enough to get things turned around, but if he doesn’t then he has a massive price tag for a performance that’s not living up to expectations. To be fair, Randle is a talented player, but he might not be worthy of being the number one option on a playoff team. With a report from Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer saying the Kings are open to trading the number four pick in the draft for an impact veteran, the timing might be perfect for the Knicks to flip Randle. “Given that, there’s a strong belief among rival teams that...
SANTA CLARA — Initial jersey numbers are out for the 49ers’ rookie class. A word of caution: They’re subject to change before the season starts, in case you’re rushing out to buy a replica jersey. That said, here are their digits as they take the 49ers’ practice fields Friday for the first time in their pro careers (starting with their draft picks): No. 95: Defensive lineman Drake Jackson No. 32: Running back Ty Davis-Price No. 86: Wide receiver Danny Gray No. 74: Offensive lineman Specer Burford No. 26: Cornerback Sam Womack III No. 63: Offensive lineman Nick Zakelj No. 93: Defensive tackle Kalia Davis No. 36: Cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields No. 14 Quarterback Brock Purdy (He was presented jersey No. 262 at the NFL Draft to signify being the last pick and “Mr. Irrelevant.”) Undrafted rookies under contract: No. 14: Safety Leon O’Neal Jr. No. 18: Cornerback Lee Pitts No. 24 Wide receiver Taysir Mack No. 40: Linebacker Marcelino McCrary-Ball No. 41: Safety Tayler Hawkins No. 41: Running back Jordan Mason No. 43: Cornerback Qwuantrezz Knight No. 47: Linebacker Jeremiah Gemmel...
Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman has changed his jersey number to No. 7, he announced Monday on Instagram. Bateman wore No. 12 as a rookie last season, when he had 46 catches for 515 yards and a touchdown in 12 games. At Minnesota, he wore No. 13 in his first two years before switching to No. 0 in 2020 as part of an anti-racist initiative. Bateman is the Ravens’ third straight top draft pick to change his jersey number. Wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown traded No. 15 for No. 5 before his third season in Baltimore, while inside linebacker Patrick Queen ditched No. 48 for No. 8 after his rookie year. They could have more company soon. In a comment on Bateman’s Instagram post Monday, outside linebacker and No. 99 Odafe Oweh, whom the Ravens also took in the first round last year, wrote, “I think I’m next.” ()
Getty Georgia's Travon Walker speaking during the 2022 NFL combine. With a month to go, the Detroit Lions still have any number of directions they could go in the 2022 NFL draft, and are pondering what road to travel at this very time. While many see quarterback as the biggest need that could be in play, others still think the Lions should stick to their guns and draft for defense. If that’s the move, there are any number of directions the Lions could go, including numerous linemen as well as with Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton. The latest Lions news straight to your inbox! A hiker who was lost on a Colorado mountain for more than 24 hours ignored calls from the search and rescue team because they didn't recognize the phone number.  The hiker was reported missing to Lake County Search and Rescue around 8pm on October 18 after they failed to return from their morning hike on Mount Elbert.   Search and rescuers were informed that the hiker had begun at the South Trailhead at 9am that morning but hadn't returned to base 11 hours later.  The team then called the hiker several times to try to locate them but never got ahold of them.  Rescue teams spent the evening searching for the missing man and continued the search through to the next day, only to learn the hiker - who was completely unaware anyone was looking for him - had returned home safely at 9.30am that morning, on October 19. The hiker was reported missing around 8pm when they were overdue from their hike starting at the South Trailhead, one of the most popular trails of the five routes along the...

After wearing No. 0 for the last four seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, Kuzma decided to change his number following a trade to the Washington Wizards out of respect for Gilbert Arenas. "Out of respect for Gilbert Arenas," Kuzma told NBC Sports Washington's Chase Hughes. "That was probably one of the biggest things. When you think of the Washington Wizards, honestly the first person I think of, because my generation, is Gilbert Arenas, Agent Zero. Obviously, that played a big part and having a fresh start. I just felt it was right." Arenas is the only player in Wizards history to wear No. 0. He gave Russell Westbrook his blessing to wear it last season, but the nine-time All-Star chose No. 4 instead. Arenas spent eight of his 11 NBA seasons in Washington. The...
Getty Dennis Schroder of the LA Lakers looks on as Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum attempts a free throw. If joining a franchise with a storied history and a legacy of winning is appealing to players, they probably can’t do better than the Boston Celtics. However, signing on the dotted line with that kind of club does present a problem; one that new Celtic Dennis Schroder is facing right now. With so many legends of the game having stepped onto the parquet floor over the years, the rafters at the Garden are flush with retired jersey numbers. As a result, incoming Celtics occasionally find themselves forced to abandon their longtime numbers in favor of something outside the norm. Schroder, who has worn No. 17 for the entirety of his NBA career, stepped into this situation in a big, bad way. That number, of course, was the same one worn by John Havlicek, a Hall of Famer and top-five player in Celtics history. So, after eight years in the Association, Schroder needs new digits. To that end, the high-scoring...

Ravens’ HC John Harbaugh said first-round pick Rashod Bateman will miss “a number of weeks” with the groin injury that he suffered at Tuesday’s practice.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 11, 2021 The injury happened when he was running during a one-on-one drill with cornerback Marcus Peters. He walked back to the locker room with a very pronounced limp.  Bateman, a first-round pick out of Minnesota, had already missed a handful of practices due to what Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic called "normal camp tightness and soreness." However, Zrebiec reported that Bateman's soreness had been in his...

Getty Jimmy Butler and Andre Iguodala of the Miami Heat during a game against the Indiana Pacers in August 2020. When it comes to the number of free agents each NBA team is looking at heading into the summer, as of Thursday, the only two squads with a higher number than the Miami Heat are the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers, who both boast 11. The Heat and New York Knicks are right behind the pair of Western Conference teams at 10 apiece. It’s important to note these figures include both unrestricted and restricted free agents, athletes with player options, and organizations with team options. With the whopping number of possible movers this off-season from South Beach though, does that make Miami a potential trade partner for the Golden State Warriors? New York Giants’ draft spot at 11 keeps getting better and better By: Alexander Wilson March 27, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe New York Giants sit pretty with the 11th overall pick in the draft, as teams made significant moves around them on Friday afternoon. To start, the Miami Dolphins traded the number three overall pick to the San Francisco 49ers for the number 12 overall pick and future selections. Just minutes later, the Philadelphia Eagles completed a trade, sending the sixth pick to Miami for the 12th pick and a future first-rounder. The Giants now sit one slot ahead of the Eagles and Miami jumped back into the top 10, which will guarantee them a top non-quarterback player. I expect that four QBs will be off the board in the top six picks, meaning the Giants will have their fair share of premium selections available at 11. Now, we have talked about a number of amazing prospects the Giants could target, including Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons, Northwestern OL Rashawn Slater, and a...
Everyone has their own pick in the NBA’s GOAT argument. For Dwyane Wade, his familiarity with LeBron James is not the deciding factor. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade have a long history. Even now, with Wade in retirement and LeBron still chasing titles, they remain close friends. But all of that history hasn’t changed the way Wade feels about the NBA GOAT discussion. Former Vice President Joe Biden’s pick to serve as director of national intelligence, Avril Haines, once argued that America’s refusal to accept refugees in sufficient numbers posed a long-term threat to national security. Minnesota Timberwolves president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas stated the organization has not officially settled on who their number one overall pick with be in the upcoming NBA draft, according to an article from Bleacher Report. “There’s no guy that has separated himself from the pack from public or external view, but I’m very confident that as we go through this process, the talent will rise to the top,” he said to reporters on Wednesday, October 21. The draft is scheduled to take place on November 18, and will be done via videoconference instead of the usual in-person event. For Minnesota, picking up an athlete that will add to the team’s effectiveness is crucial, as they have only had one winning season, in 2017-18, in the past 15 years. In the past 11 seasons, the squad has placed dead last in the Northwest Division nine times. The Timberwolves currently have Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell as it top two stars, but need other players to fill in other areas of the roster to make it a playoff-ready team. There has...
Alexis Lafrenière has never been to New York, but that’s about to change. The Rangers announced on Monday that they have signed the No. 1 pick of the 2020 NHL Draft to an entry-level contract. According to Cap Friendly, it is for the entry-level max at $3.775 million AAV ($11.325 million total) with a cap hit of $925,000. “It was a really easy process and we worked with his agency and got things done really quick here,” general manager Jeff Gorton said on a Zoom with reporters. “Obviously, we’re really excited about getting him signed and becoming a Ranger and everything that goes along with it. Looking forward to the first time we can see him on the ice.” When that will be may be very soon. Lafrenière could be in the Big Apple as soon as November to prepare for training camp, Gorton said. He will not return to juniors despite the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s 2020-21 season already underway. Last season with Rimouski, he posted 112 points (35 goals, 77 assists) in 52 games — best in the league. Over the...
Dwayne Haskins will be benched in favor of quarterback Kyle Allen, the Washington Football Team announced on Twitter on Wednesday morning. Speculation of the decision first began to emerge after the squad fell to the Baltimore Ravens in Week Four by a score of 31-17. The franchise is 1-3-0 in 2020 and currently trails the 1-2-1 Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East standings. Haskins was Washington’s first round pick in 2019. The Ohio State University product was selected 15th overall and assumed the starting role in Week Four of last season. Haskins threw for 314 yards in Sunday’s loss to Baltimore, but did find the end zone. It is the first time this season that the quarterback did not throw for a touchdown pass. Allen is in his first year in D.C. He was traded to the franchise this offseason after spending time with the Carolina Panthers in 2018 and 2019. The Panthers received a fifth-round pick as compensation. Coach Ron Rivera, who is also in his first season with the franchise, was Carolina’s coach in both of those seasons....
New York Giants have best chance of landing number one overall pick, according to ESPN By: Anthony Rivardo October 2, 2020 ShareTweetFlipRedditOnce again, the New York Giants are the talk of the NFL Draft less than a month into the NFL’s regular season. After an abysmal 0-3 start, Giants fans have lost hope in their team and have begun looking ahead to the offseason. According to ESPN FPI, Giants fans have good reason to look ahead to the draft. The New York Giants have a 27.8% chance of landing the number one overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, per ESPN FPI. This is just ahead of the New York Jets, who have a 27.7% chance of landing the top pick. Right now, it appears that the race for the first pick will be between the two New York teams. The Giants and Jets have a much higher chance of picking first overall than any other team. The team with the third-highest chance is the Jaguars, at only 8.2%. The Trevor Lawrence...
Two of the NFL’s biggest stars are about to get paid just before the 2020 season kicks off. Several outlets reported Tuesday that Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has signed a two-year extension worth $54.5 million, giving him an average salary of $27.25 million per year. That number would make him the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history. Other reports stated that New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is also “extremely close” to signing a huge extension, though the details of the deal don’t appear to be finalized. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the two sides would complete the deal in the coming days. Hopkins was traded to Arizona from the Houston Texans in March for a second-round pick and running back David Johnson, a deal that was universally panned. Johnson has been ineffective since his All-Pro season in 2016 after suffering a number of injuries, and Texans head coach/GM Bill O’Brien wasn’t able to fetch a first-round pick for one of the league’s truly elite receivers. Kamara missed a number of practices during training camp, and his...

Clemson is at the top of the preseason rankings for Yahoo Sports. The publication released its new top 25 after the Big 10 and PAC-12 canceled football, and the Clemson Tigers are number one. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football) Number two? That spot is secured by Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide. It’s worth noting that Ohio State was originally number two in the preseason rankings for Yahoo Sports.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Trevor Lawrence (@tlawrence16) on Jul 10, 2020 at 1:20pm PDT With Ohio State officially not playing the 2020 football season, there’s no question at all that Clemson has to be number one in the preseason. Anyone who picks a different team should be ignored at all costs. They’re either a moron or they’re just looking for attention. It’s that simple. Going into the season, Dabo Swinney and company have to be number one. That’s not to say they’ll win the national title, but they should certainly be the heavy favorite.  ...
New York Rangers will get offers for the number 1 pick By: Frank Curto August 16, 2020 PrevPreviousWhat the New York Rangers Can Expect from Alexis Lafreniere ShareTweet0 SharesThe New York Rangers’ future took a dramatic turn last Monday with one bounce of a ping pong ball. The number one overall selection in this year’s NHL Entry Draft belongs to the Blueshirts. Team president John Davidson knows who he and the Rangers organization want to pick as the top selection in the NHL Entry Draft which is to be held in October. Alexis Lafreniere is the projected top player and would look great playing on Broadway at Madison Square Garden. The winger played for Rimouski of the QMJHL recorded 112 points in 52 games this past season. The decision to draft Lafreniere may not be as simple as it may appear, some team could make an offer for the pick. Davidson spoke at length with Pierre LeBrun and Scott Burnside on this week’s Two-Man Advantage podcast. He discussed what it means to...

President Donald Trump slammed Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) on Tuesday after news broke that presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden had selected her to be his running mate for the upcoming election. “She is a person that’s told many, many stories that weren’t true,” Trump told reporters during a news conference. “She’s very big into raising taxes. She wants to slash funds for our military at a level that nobody can even believe. She is against fracking. She’s against petroleum products. I mean, how do you do that and go into Pennsylvania or Ohio or Oklahoma or the great state of Texas? She’s against fracking. Fracking’s a big deal.” “She’s in favor of socialized medicine, where you’re going to lose your doctors,” Trump continued. “You’re going to lose your plan. She wants to take your healthcare plans away from 180 million Americans. 180 million Americans that are very happy with their health insurance and she wants to take that away. So she was my number one pick. I mean, as they would say, because hopefully you’ll start college football. She...
President Trump, in his first on-camera remarks about the new Biden-Harris ticket, said he was “a little surprised” that Joe Biden chose Kamala Harris to be his running mate given her “very poor” primary performance, but said she was his “number one pick” to face off against. During a White House briefing Monday afternoon -- shortly after Biden announced Harris as his VP nominee -- Trump lashed out against the Democratic senator. The president, referring to her failed 2016 presidential run, claimed he was most surprised by the pick because “she did very very poorly in primaries, she ended up right around two percent.” And he drew attention to her campaign attacks on Biden at the time. SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX) — Former vice president Joe Biden is close to choosing a running mate. He had pledged to nominate a woman for the position and U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) is widely perceived as a front-runner although, during last year’s presidential debate, the she and Biden had a tense exchange about race, school busing, and segregation. “There was a little girl in California who was part of the second class to integrate her public schools and she was bused to schools everyday and that little girl was me,” said Harris during the debate. Biden called the criticism a mischaracterization of his position across the board. “I did not praise racists. That is not true, number one. Number two, if we want to have this campaign litigated on who supports civil rights and whether I did or not, I’m happy to do that,” he said. San Jose State journalism professor Bob Rucker said Biden’s VP pick also needs to understand how to work with people and particularly the boss to get things done in this country. “There’s a feistiness,...
LONDON (Reuters) - Around 200 people employed to pick crops at a farm near Malvern in England's West Midlands region have been told to self isolate after 73 of them tested positive for COVID-19, Public Health England (PHE) and Herefordshire Council said on Sunday. The number of new confirmed COVID-19 cases across Britain each day has been falling from a peak of more than 6,000 in April to 650 in the latest figures released on Sunday, despite wider availability of testing. However, there have been local outbreaks, with a significant number linked to meat packing plants. The AS Green and Co farm site has been placed in lockdown to try to contain the outbreak, which follows other clusters of cases at food producers, PHE and Herefordshire Council said. During the harvest season, workers who pick and pack vegetables, live in mobile homes based on the farm. Katie Spence, PHE Midlands Health Protection Director, said the company had put infection control measures in place to try to reduce the risk of staff becoming exposed to COVID-19. "Despite these measures, a small...
The New York Rangers Can Still Get the Number One Pick in the NHL Draft? By: Jim Bay June 28, 2020 Follow ESM On Social Facebook Twitter Youtube Flipboard Instagram ShareTweet0 SharesIn what continues to be a puzzling year in the world and the NHL, the New York Rangers still have a chance to land the first pick in the upcoming NHL draft. How could that happen? How could a team who was selected for the playoffs, still end up with the number one pick if they are not trading for it? It’s complicated, but here is how it happened: The NHL draft lottery happened Friday.  At that event, one of eight placeholder spots beat the odds to secure the No. 1 pick, meaning a second draw is now required later this summer following the qualifying round and before the usual 16-team playoffs. And the winner is… One of the qualifying teams in the Stanley Cup playoffs. One of the 8 teams that lose in the @NHLs play-in round will select...
