A jury on Long Island convicted a former NYPD officer in the death of his 8-year-old son who was forced to stay in a freezing garage. Michael Valva, age 43, told authorities that the boy, Thomas Valva, had fallen in the driveway of his home in Center Moriches when he was found dead in the basement at around 9:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2020. On Friday, Nov. 4, following a six-week trial in Riverhead, the jury found Michael Valva guilty of second-degree murder and four counts of child endangerment. Thomas Valva died from hypothermia after his father forced him to sleep in a freezing garage, prosecutors said. A forensic analysis of surveillance cameras installed in various rooms in the home showed Thomas and his brother, Anthony, sleeping in the garage without a mattress, pillows, or sheets on the night of Jan. 15. "Today the jury has spoken on the tragic murder of Thomas Valva by his father, the defendant Michael Valva," Suffolk County DIstrict Attorney Raymond Tierney said. "This guilty verdict will not bring back 8-year-old Thomas, who suffered immense cruelty at the...
In the latest episode of her Archetypes podcast, Meghan Markle shares a sweet moment with her mother, Doria Ragland, and lavishes praise on her while painting a picture of Ragland as a burdened single mother who was solely responsible for her upbringing. Anyone who has read about Meghan’s childhood in Los Angeles, however, might wonder about the idea that Ragland was on her own to raise the future TV actor who married Prince Harry. Meghan’s statement — “She took care of me and the house and herself. She was juggling so much.” — is at odds with the many accounts showing that Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, was very much involved in co-parenting her. From around the age of 9 and until Meghan left for college, the future Duchess of Sussex lived “full-time” with her father, a lighting designer for “General Hospital,” “Married With Children” and other shows, according to Vanity Fair and the book, “Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors” by author Tom Bower. Thomas Markle and others say he footed the bill for her private-school education...
The teachers of an autistic boy who froze to death when his father allegedly made him sleep on the garage floor claims that they flooded Child Protection Services with calls about his welfare. Thomas Zubko-Valva, eight, froze to death on January 17, 2020, after his ex-NYPD cop father, Michael Valva, 43, locked him in a freezing garage for as long as 16 hours as a form of punishment.  Valva's girlfriend, 45-year-old Angela Pollina, allegedly participated in the abuse and sprayed the boy with cold water during the ordeal at the home in Center Moriches, New York.  They are both on trial for the murder of little Thomas. East Moriches Elementary School principal Edward Schneyer now says that when suspicions about the child's neglect were flagged to the dad, he rebuffed the concerns. As a result, the school started 'flooding' CPS with calls for Thomas' welfare, he said.  Thomas Valva, 8, who was autistic, died when his father locked him in his home's garage in January, 2020 Michael Valva arriving in court in March, 2020, after his son froze to death...

"I will beat them until they bleed," Valva allegedly texted Polina about his children, said Newcombe. "It is the only thing that works." School officials said the children, both of whom have special needs, would come to class in soiled clothes and would rummage through the trash for food. "They were observed at school literally eating crumbs off the floor," Newcombe told jurors. READ MORE CRIMEMICK NEVILLE How did cops let catching a vile...

Meghan Markle 's half-brother has lodged a bid to control their father Thomas Markle's legal and business affairs whilst he recovers from a stroke. The 78-year-old may be put under 'conservatorship', which is a form of legal guardianship and what singer Britney Spears was famously controlled under by family members for 13 years.  They are granted in cases where individuals are no longer able to make their own decisions, such as suffering from dementia. John had worked for several years as a flooring journeyman for Johnny B’s Floor Covering in Toms River, his memorial says. In his first public appearance since suffering a stroke three months ago, Meghan Markle's father thanked the British public for their support. An exclusive video of Thomas Markle, 77, on GB News this evening marks his first public appearance since his stroke in May, which saw him lose his speech. It was shown during Dan Wooton's interview with Mr Markle's son Thomas Markle Jr, where he opened up about his father's recovery. In the video, Mr Markle can be seen sitting at a table overlooking a windy beach. He holds a whiteboard and pen, holding up the sign to the camera. Charles wanted Meghan to make her dad “stop” Prince Charles became so irritated by Thomas Markle’s TV appearances—especially his criticism of the royal family—that he “berated” son Prince Harry of wife Meghan Markle, “Can’t she just go and see him and make this stop?” In his book, Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors, Tom Bower also writes that shortly after Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding, Charles and Queen Elizabeth “urged” Meghan to fly to America for a reconciliation. This request was rejected by Meghan, fearing “a frenzy of media attention and intrusion that could bring more embarrassment to the royal family.” Bower writes: “Harry did not tell his father about Thomas’s fury at being ignored by his daughter. Harry explained that Meghan refused to tele- phone Thomas Markle because she suspected that ‘his phone was not in his possession’ and ‘his email account was compromised.’ The inconsistencies...
The mother of an autistic boy who froze to death when his NYPD father made him sleep on a garage floor has been given the go-ahead to sue child protective services and school officials for $200million, a judge has ruled.  Justyna Zubko-Valva claims she had warned child protective services and administrators at her son's school that the eight-year-old Thomas was being abused by his father.  Her fears came true on January 17, 2020, when Thomas froze to death after his father, Michael Valva, locked him in a freezing garage as a form of punishment. Valva's girlfriend, Angela Pollina, allegedly participated in the abuse. Last week, an Eastern District of New York court advanced Zubko-Valva's lawsuit against numerous CPS officials for deliberate indifference, school officials from the East Moriches Union Free School District for wrongful death claims, and several attorneys for malpractice.  Valva and Pollina were charged with second degree murder in the death, and are currently awaiting trial. The case saw extensive delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic.    Michael Valva (left) and Angela Pollina (right), were charged with second degree murder...
Family comes before anything else for me. So, like many others, I find it unimaginable that Meghan Markle the length of the country for a tacky photo opportunity at the site of the Uvalde school shooting, possibly with Netflix reality show cameras in tow, but not drive three-and-a-half hours down the road to see her stricken dad in hospital, who is recovering from a life-threatening stroke that has cruelly stolen his speech. The briefing and counter briefing that has emerged in the last 24 hours about the Duchess of Sussex trying to reconcile with her dad on the condition her brother and sister are left out of any reunion is as disingenuous as it is nonsensical. Right now, Thomas is being cared for 24 hours a day by Thomas Markle Junior, Meghan’s half-brother. Thomas can’t speak – for now his son is responsible for full time rehabilitation as the family try and work out a funding plan for the long months of treatment that remain ahead. More so, Thomas, who is 77-years-old and has a history of serious heart problems,...

Meghan Markle wants to make contact with her estranged father to heal the four-year rift. The Duchess of Sussex, 40, reached out to Thomas Markle's camp after it emerged he left hospital following five days of treatment for a stroke. However, it is understood that Meghan is concerned about involving her half-siblings Thomas Jr, 55, and Samantha, 57, as she 'believes they have their own agendas'. A source told The Mirror: 'Despite their estrangement, Meghan is concerned. She wants to know if there is any way to contact her father privately, without other family knowing about it or having to get involved.' The insider added: 'Meghan can’t contact her half-siblings because she believes they have their own agendas.   'If she can contact their dad, she wants it to be totally private. It won’t involve Netflix, it won’t involve any photographs and it must not involve any tip-offs to the paparazzi.' JUST one week ago I spoke to Thomas Markle, now fighting for his life in a California hospital. “I’ve just fallen,” he told me, from a pavement in Rosarito, his Mexican home. “Thankfully, some good people picked me up. I’m going to head home.” During our friendly conversation, Markle, 77, spoke with unusual excitement about flying from San Diego to London for the jubilee celebrations. 5Thomas Markle has not spoken to daughter Meghan since 16 May 2018, just three days before her glittering wedding 5Instead of driving south to her father’s bedside, Meghan flew on Thursday on a private jet to Texas to lay a bunch of white roses at a shrine for slaughtered schoolchildren in Uvalde “I’m coming to see the Queen,” he said with some pride. “We’ve got a lot to talk about.” Naturally, I did not disabuse of him about his fantasy of drinking a cup of tea with the monarch at Windsor. More realistically, I mentioned he would be in the same city as his daughter and grandchildren. Thomas has not spoken to Meghan since 16...

Social media users have criticized Meghan Markle for making a surprise appearance at a memorial to the victims of the Texas school shooting despite not visiting her father Thomas in hospital after he suffered a stroke.  Markle was spotted on Thursday laying a bouquet of white roses at a makeshift memorial outside the Uvalde County Courthouse, not far from the scene of the senseless slayings at Robb Elementary School.  As well, she also stopped by an Uvalde community center that is hosting a blood drive, where she toured the facility and donated food, a volunteer there told DailyMail.com. 'She did not want anybody to know who she was,' the person said.  The duchess took the trip in a personal capacity as a mother, to offer her condolences and support in person to a community experiencing unimaginable grief, her spokesperson told People.   However, some took umbrage with what they felt was the duchess' attempt to take center stage after an unimaginable tragedy - and questioned why she couldn't have gone to see her estranged father instead.  Meghan Markle places a bouquet of white...
Thomas Markle may need a year of therapy to recover his speech after being struck down by a suspected stroke this week, his daughter Samantha said. His family had been worried about his high blood pressure for some time before he fell ill, resulting in him losing even the ability to tell paramedics what was wrong with him.  Mr Markle, 77, had to write down his symptoms on a piece of paper. It comes a week before he had been due to fly to London for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.  Samantha, half-sister to the Duchess of Sussex, said Monday’s ordeal could have been ‘fatal’ but her father was on the mend in a California hospital. She told GB News: ‘I don’t think he saw it coming but he’s doing better – he’s in good spirits. It’s going to take several… maybe six months, maybe a year, to get his speech back. Watching Prince Harry gallop across a sunlit polo field in southern California it was tempting to wonder if it brought back any nostalgic memories for the very different kind of life he used to lead as a member of the Royal Family.  But of all the regrets he surely privately has over his exile, the greatest must be the animosity that exists between him and his father-in-law, who remains seriously ill in hospital after a suspected stroke.  The rift between Thomas Markle, his daughter and the son-in-law he has never met, has been one of the most tragic and enduring features of the entire Harry and Meghan saga. It is also by some distance the saddest. For despite the pain and suspicion that undoubtedly still exists between Harry and his father Prince Charles and brother William, the Prince has not completely severed those royal bonds. And although pointedly not invited to share the Buckingham Palace balcony, he and Meghan will be participating in next week’s Platinum Jubilee.  Contrast that with the sorrowful events surrounding Mr Markle’s admission to hospital after reportedly...
As Thomas Markle reportedly recovers from a stroke in a San Diego-area hospital, it’s not likely that his famously estranged daughter, Meghan Markle, will make the four-hour trip from Montecito to visit him, one royal expert says. “Meghan hasn’t released any statement and I doubt she intends to go down there. That bridge is burned,” Duncan Larcombe, a royal author and former royal editor for the U.K. tabloid The Sun, said in an interview with the Daily Beast. Another royal expert, society author and YouTuber Lady Colin Campbell, more cynically told the Daily Beast that the Duchess of Sussex might feel under pressure to at least make it appear that she was concerned about her 77-year-old father. Campbell also suggested that Netflix, which is reportedly filming an “at-home” “docuseries” about Meghan and Prince Harry’s lives in California as part of its $100 million deal with the couple, may hope to shoot a dramatic scene of the duchess visiting her father in the hospital, Campbell said. “If she’s clever, she will find a way to visit and reconcile,” Campbell said. “Let’s...

The news that Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas, is in a hospital, having suffered a stroke so serious that it reportedly left him unable to speak, will renew pressure on the duchess to reconcile with her father, and introduce her husband and children to him for the first time. However, as with all things concerning Meghan, the latest medical crisis for her father is likely to polarize opinion, with a significant number of Meghan’s fans arguing on social media that she is right to have cut off from a parent they consider toxic. Thomas has admitted that he staged photographs in exchange for cash before his daughter’s wedding, but has argued that he did so only in a naïve attempt to improve his image and after being worn down by the pressure of being surveilled by paparazzi photographers. However in the course of Meghan’s successful copyright infringement and invasion of privacy action against the publishers of the...
Meghan Markle’s estranged father Thomas has reportedly suffered a major stroke that has led him to lose his speech. He was about to arrive in the U.K. to comment on Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee for right wing media outlet GB News, according to host Dan Wootton, writing in the Daily Mail. Meghan’s estranged half-sister Samantha Markle told Wootton: “My father is recovering in hospital. We ask for privacy for the family, for his health and wellbeing. He just needs peace and rest. Thomas Markle, the estranged father of Meghan Markle, has suffered a major stroke days before he was scheduled to travel to the UK to enjoy Queen Elizabeth’s II Platinum Jubilee celebrations, reports say. MEGHAN Markle's estranged father Thomas Markle has sensationally announced that he is flying to the UK this year to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Speaking to Dan Wootton on GB News, the Duchess of Sussex's father claimed he wanted to meet Prince Harry and Meghan Markle if the couple decide to travel over for the celebrations. He said that he also hoped to meet Prince Charles and thank him for walking his daughter down the aisle at the royal wedding in 2018. Speaking live from his home in Mexico, he branded Prince Harry an "idiot" for blaming security issues for potentially stopping him from travelling to the jubilee events. He slammed the couple for not bringing their two children Archie and Lilibet over to meet their great-grandmother the Queen, calling it "another slap in the face". Previously, a father of a University of Pennsylvania women’s swim team member said that members of the team “realize that they will never, ever be able to beat” Thomas in competition. The father continued by stating that Thomas “is most likely going to be representing you and I and all other Americans at the Olympics,” since his success on the women’s team will prevent his female team members from earning spots on the Olympic women’s swim team. Expressing dismay the father asked, “What do you say to your daughter? You got Lia up on the...

The cable network said he added that, "Yes, your daughter can still participate in athletics and reap a lot of the benefits of athletics, but she'll never be on the podium." What else? Thomas has been receiving testosterone suppressors for nearly three years and competed on the UPenn men’s team before switching to the women's team in 2020, Fox News said. The transgender female swimmer is slated to compete at next month's Ivy League championships and has qualified for the NCAA Division I championships in March, the cable network said. What's more, Thomas has turned in better times this season than several collegiate swimmers who competed in last summer’s Olympics and swam the nation’s best times in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle last month, Fox News said, citing the New York Times. The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America called on the NCAA Competition Oversight Committee to temporarily expand this year’s participation limit by one spot so Thomas "and the other cisgender women athletes who have earned the right to compete" can do so, the...
The father of one of transgender swimmer Lia Thomas' University of Pennsylvania teammates has spoken out in an interview where he said that his daughter and her teammates are coming to the realization that they won't be able to beat her. This comes days after an anonymous member of the team also spoke out against Thomas, who has continued to dominate events in the Ivy League this season. It is unclear if the two are related.  This past weekend during an NCAA college swimming meet with Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts, Thomas won the Women's 100m and Women's 200m Freestyle races, although the margin's were far narrower than in previous races she won in 2021.  The father, who has also chosen to remain anonymous to avoid 'physical harm' any backlash could entail and has a 'medical background,' told Fox News that he believes there is no stopping Thomas from reaching the highest level.    'She is most likely going to be representing you and I and all other Americans at the Olympics,' he said. Scientists have urged a university not to cut ties with one of its founding fathers after accusations of ‘scientific racism’ were made by an independent history group. Imperial College is facing calls to remove a bust of 19th century biologist Thomas Huxley and rename a building named in his honour. But some of the country’s leading scientific figures including Prof Richard Dawkins and Nobel laureate Sir Prof Paul Nurse have taken up the baton to defend Huxley’s reputation as a dedicated abolitionist against slavery, The Telegraph reports. The move comes after a report was published in October by an independent history group, formed in the wake of Black Lives Matter protests in 2020, which has examined Imperial college’s links to colonialism. Their report argued that Huxley wrote an essay which ‘espouses a racial hierarchy of intelligence, a belief system of “scientific racism” that fed the dangerous and false ideology of eugenics’. Thomas Huxley (1825-1895) was a famed English biologist and a founder of the Royal College of Science, later Imperial College, the institution which is now examining its links with him...

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The father of Justin Thomas got the first look at Tiger Woods playing a round of golf since his car crash 10 months ago and saw more than he expected. “It’s crazy how good he’s hitting — and far he’s hitting — for what he’s been through,” Mike Thomas said Thursday at the PNC Championship. “It’s impressive where he’s at.” Next up for Woods is playing in front of an audience. It’s one thing for the 15-time major champion to play with 12-year-old son Charlie, with Mike Thomas along for the ride, last week near his home in south Florida. It’s another to tee it up in front of thousands of spectators and on network TV. Only 10 months ago, Woods shattered bones in his right leg, ankle and foot when the SUV he was driving along a winding suburban road in Los Angeles crashed through a median and down a hill. Woods was immobilized for three months in a makeshift hospital bed in his house. He went from crutches to slowly walking. He was hitting...
