The best thing about the Ravens’ 23-game preseason winning streak is that it beats the alternative. The national media likes to harp on the winning streak, and coach John Harbaugh hypes it up to a degree, but it’s hard to put much credence in it, especially when these games are downright unattractive. The most tense moment of the Ravens’ 17-15 win against Washington Commanders on Saturday night was whether team mascot Poe was seriously injured during halftime in a game against kids. That’s true. He was carted off the field but returned in the third quarter. This streak has become so “life or death” that Harbaugh had rookie wide receiver Raleigh Webb playing safety at the end of the game. Most of the media was wondering if that was rookie punter Jordan Stout, who shares the No. 11 jersey with Webb. So, please squelch the streak talk. Few fans care about the Ravens being undefeated in six preseasons. When the Commanders were trailing 17-15 with the ball on their own 20 with two minutes left in the game, the remaining...
Grab a running buddy and get ready to drink some bubbly after some exercise. The Yards D.C. is hosting Brunch on the Go every Saturday for three weeks. “It is a way to exercise and then get to go enjoy a yummy brunch,” marketing director Jill Fredrick told WTOP. Saturday, May 7, will feature La Famosa. “The brunch that they’re offering looks amazing,” Fredrick said. “You’ll get some bread filled with guava and sweet cheese, a Puerto Rican semi-sweet breakfast spread, a seafood salad with shrimp, scallops and octopus, Puerto Rican style rice and beans and their popular breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese and sliced ribeye.” Saturday, May 14, will feature Osteria Morini. “They will be offering a baby kale salad, crostini with prosciutto and cheese, a beef, pork and chicken ragu, and sweet Italian sausage,” Fredrick said. “Then for people with a sweet tooth, you’ll also...
Chicago White Sox left fielder Eloy Jiménez exited with right hamstring soreness after trying to beat a throw to first base in the second inning Saturday against the Minnesota Twins. He is being evaluated, the Sox said. Jiménez hit a grounder to third, stumbled after crossing first base and fell. He got to his feet but was taken off the field on a cart. He is slashing .222/.256/.333 with one home run and seven RBIs in 11 games. Jiménez played just 55 games last season after suffering a ruptured left pectoral tendon during a Cactus League game. The Sox already are missing starting center fielder Luis Robert (groin strain) in this series. Robert suffered the injury Thursday in Cleveland. Manager Tony La Russa is hopeful Robert will return Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals. Starting right fielder AJ Pollock returned from the injured list (strained right hamstring) Friday. ()
AJ Pollock became the latest Chicago White Sox player to leave a game early because of an injury, exiting Saturday with tightness in his right hamstring. The right fielder is being further evaluated, according to the team. Pollock singled to center in the third inning against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. He rounded first and grimaced as he went back to the bag, briefly grabbing the back of his right leg. The training staff checked on Pollock and he left the game. The Sox acquired Pollock in an April 1 trade that sent reliever Craig Kimbrel to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pollock had three hits Friday on opening day, becoming the first player with at least three hits in his Sox debut since Craig Wilson (also three) on Sept. 5, 1998, against the New York Yankees, according to Elias. Andrew Vaughn ran for Pollock and replaced him in right field. Injuries were a major issue for the Sox last season and have popped up again at the start of 2022. Starter Lucas Giolito left Friday’s outing after four innings...
The 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass is already an iconic setting for THE PLAYERS Championship but it was absolutely brutal while dealing with Saturday’s wind. Weather has been the biggest story at TPC Sawgrass for THE PLAYERS Championship this week as the biggest PGA Tour event of the season hasn’t honestly seen nearly enough golf being played over the first three days of action. The first round wasn’t completed until Saturday in the late morning after Thursday and Friday saw extensive suspensions of play due to heavy rains. Even on Saturday, the play couldn’t resume until Noon ET as the precipitation continued. Once it stopped, though, another element came into the equation: gusting winds. Throughout the day on Saturday, the winds were going crazy around TPC Sawgrass with an average over 20 mph and gusts north of 40 mph. And, naturally, it was the iconic 17th hole and its island green that ultimately drove players crazy over the course of the day in those conditions.THE PLAYERS Championship: Saturday’s winds wreak havoc at iconic 17th holeHow bad was it trying to...

Saturday’s action was historic as the Top 6 teams in the AP poll lost on the same day for the first time ever, which could create chaos when the next poll is released tomorrow. The wild results from Saturday will also shake up this week’s college basketball rankings, which feature a lot of the same teams as last week’s edition but with some shuffled placements after observing the week’s action. PROVIDENCE, R.I. (CBS) — The blizzard was no match for one couple’s love. Adam and Sally Irujo tired the knot in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday. They’ve had January 29 circled on their calendars for over a year so when news of the storm popped up, they decided to go ahead with the wedding anyway. “We thought it was going to be really hard and it all came together. The Providence Public Library worked so well. All of our vendors were available today and I think it was just meant to be,” said Sally. Surrounded by family and friends, the couple kissed outside as snow fell.

It’s well known that Fox News dominates the ratings during the week, and in prime time. After a rough patch earlier this year (CNN crushed Fox in January) the network is back to its usual position on top. What might not be known is that Fox News is now also back to dominating the weekend ratings. Between Sept. 26 and Oct. 10, Fox News had the top 17 shows in both total viewers and the crucial 25-54 demographic, which is a valuable metric to advertisers. Jesse Watters was the most watched host in total viewers for his show Watters World, which airs on Saturdays, drawing 1,701,000. Sunday Morning Futures, hosted by Maria Bartiromo, placed second with with 1,606,000. In third place in that category, Justice with Judge Jeanine, which airs on Saturdays and is hosted by Jeanine Pirro, drew 1.6 million, followed by Life, Liberty and Levin, which airs on Sundays and is hosted by Mark Levin, with 1,545,000. Bartiromo topped the 25-54 demographic with 251,000 viewers, followed by MediaBuzz, which airs on Sundays and is hosted by Howard...

A conservative outfit has announced it is organizing a rally on September 18 at the US Capitol to—get this—seek “justice” for the rioters arrested during the insurrectionist raid on Congress on January 6. The man behind this event is a former Trump 2016 campaign aide who after the 2020 election tried to cast himself as an independent elections expert and data analyst who had uncovered evidence of significant voter fraud. New York Jets: 3 stars from Saturday’s preseason win vs. the Giants Geoff Magliocchetti August 15, 2021 Share on facebook Facebook Share on twitter Twitter Share on reddit Reddit Zach Wilson’s debut took center stage, but the New York Jets should be very pleased by a relentless defensive effort. The New York Jets welcomed back their fans to MetLife Stadium with a glorious defensive showing and a hint of the future under center. Zach Wilson had an uneventful yet effective evening on two possessions that ended in opposing territory (6-of-9, 63 yards) while the upgraded pass rush earned five sacks en route to a 12-7 victory over the New York Giants. The resumption of the East Rutherford civil war was the first professional football game staged in front of fans in the tri-state area since February 2020. Though the Giants did not play a majority of their offensive starters, it’s probably hard for Jets fans not to be enthused by their team’s defensive showing. Gang Green allowed only 163 yards of total offense...

On Saturday, May 8, up to 53,000 Virginia Republicans who pre-registered as delegates will nominate candidates for state-wide offices in November, including governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. It’s been a long time coming. The nominating process for Republicans, an unassembled convention with about 40 voting locations across the Commonwealth – open for voting from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM – is a convoluted and confusing affair that took months to negotiate and consummate after numerous marathon and agonizing Zoom calls by the Party’s State Central Committee. The battle inside the Party pitted convention enthusiasts vs. primary advocates. All of the top four candidates for governor had a distinct nomination preference, which they believed would benefit their chances. Their supporters on the state central committee made the nomination method and their corresponding rules difficult to cement. The good news for Virginia Republicans, who have lost 13 state-wide races in a row by ever-increasing margins, is that thanks to State Senator Joe Morrissey (D-Richmond), the Virginia General Assembly passed a law...

New York Yankees: 3 major takeaways from Saturday’s win over the Pirates By: William Parlee March 14, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditYesterday the New York Yankees were at home at George M. Steinbrenner Field in St. Petersburg playing against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Yankees won the game 7-5. DJ LeManieu, Ryan LaMarre, and Socrates Brito all had home runs in the game. But the star of the game was starter Corey Kluber; he hurled four innings in Saturday’s Grapefruit League game against Pittsburgh, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out two. Kluber wasn’t quite as effective as in his spring debut when he pitched two perfect innings against Toronto. However, he got his pitch count up to 54 — the most by any Yankee pitcher this spring. He had these encouraging words about the New York Yankee lineup: “The New York Yankees’ Major League lineup is deep one through nine, but that’s a different level lineup we ran out there today, and will run out on a regular basis,”...

(CBS Los Angeles)- One of the ongoing trends within sports media and fandom in recent years is the embrace of advanced statistics and analytics to help better understand the action on the playing field or court. The explosion of metrics used to quantify athletes performance can at times be overwhelming and hard to decipher which are important and which are just noise. "Imagine a deep-space carwash at the end of Fury Road, where interstellar performers interact with vehicles to turn each car into a dancefloor, all while adhering to CDC-recommended public-health guidelines," explains the band. The 2020 college football season won’t be the same this year but Chris Fowler has a message to Save our Saturdays this fall to make the most of an unusual season. This college football season will be unlike anything fans have experienced before. Fan attendance is limited across the nation, schedules have been truncated and fans aren’t able to tailgate and celebrate together as they have in the past. “The SEC, the fans in this league aren’t used to this offense,” Fowler said. Mike Leach [has Mississippi State] throw for 623 yards in Week 1 vs. LSU. {Florida’s] Kyle Trask is a great quarterback.” This college football season will have challenges but it’ll make it all the more memorable. “Don’t punt on Saturdays,” Fowler advises fans. “Go out and remember to be grateful and celebrate what’s worth celebrating even if doesn’t feel normal. Fans text SOS to 77000 to get involved with the Dos Equis Save Our Saturdays contest.” Next: 50 best college football teams of all time For more NCAA football news, analysis, opinion and unique coverage by FanSided, including...
