How much would you pay to wake up to views of the New York City skyline every day? Hopefully your answer is around $5,500, because that's how much you'd need just to rent in Jersey City. According to Rent.com, Jersey City is the most expensive city for renters in America. That's about $500 more than the average Manhattan rental. "Jersey City, just across the Hudson from Manhattan, logged the highest rent in the U.S for this survey period," the website said.  The average monthly rent in Jersey City shot up from $3,308 in 2021 to $5,500 this year — that's a 66.25 percent increase, the third-highest in the survey. In Hoboken, the average rent is just above $4,264, making it the seventh most expensive place to rent in the US. The second-highest place for renters in America is Boston, where the average rate is around $4,800. The most expensive cities for renters are "in or near major technology hubs," Rent.com says. A woman has described her experience of being secretly tracked by someone who secretly planted an Apple AirTag on her.  Hannah Rose May, an Irish writer and actress, said her location was tracked without her knowledge for two hours around Disneyland California a Saturday night in June. She finally realised she was being tracked only because the tag linked up to her smartphone over Bluetooth and sent her a notification.  It's not known who planted the coin-sized device on her, or where exactly it was hidden without her knowledge – possibly in her bag or pocket.  'The happiest place on earth could of very easily turned into my worst nightmare,' she tweeted.   A number of reports in the US have already claimed people are being unknowingly tracked with AirTags, potentially by stalkers, thieves and sexual predators. AirTags, released by Apple in 2021, are small, circular tracking devices, slightly larger than a two-pound coin. One AirTag costs £29; keychains are sold separately (file photo) Hannah Rose May (pictured) is an Irish writer and actress who was attending an event at Disneyland...
The biggest Community Day of the year is coming June 25 as Deino stars in its own special event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Irate Pokemon is the only pseudo-legendary Pokemon from Generation V. (Sorry Axew, despite its looks and typing, the Tusk Pokemon doesn’t meet the requirements for the 600 club.) That means Deino will be especially valuable for players and will see play in raids, gym attackers and Go Battle League formats. The fact that the exclusive move, Brutal Swing, is projected to have amazing stats and a great effect that will lower a target’s attack will make it a meta game-changer. My best advice is to grab a Deino for every category of Go Battle League and evolve it to Heidreigon to get Brutal Swing. The shiny variant also stands out with its green color and mop of hair. TOP TWO PLACES It’s a Pokemon that will get the community out and about because of its monstrous potential. Expect crowds similar to last year’s Gible Day. With that said, Bay Area trainers should be...

Monday, May 30, 2022 at 11:20 a.m. – On Monday evening, hundreds or thousands of meteors may fire into the sky. According to astronomers, this could be an “all or nothing” phenomenon. About 27 years ago, a comet named 73P / Schwassman-Wachmann 3 erupted, and since 1995 it has become dramatically brighter as it has disintegrated into several pieces. So a good amount of dust and debris was expelled. This image from NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope shows an infrared view of the remnants of the comet 73P / Schwassman-Wachmann 3, set in a beaded orbit around its orbit. Large chunks of ice, dust, and gas can be seen being pushed back by the radiation pressure from sunlight. (Credit: NASA) On the night of May 30-31, astronomers believe that there is a chance that the Earth will pass through the debris accumulated from this comet. If the event materializes, it could create an eruption worthy of a major annual meteor shower such as Geminits or Perseids. At this time of year you may observe a meteor shower called “Dow Hercules”,...
In the fourth and fifth episodes of Conversations with Friends, the latest swoon-worthy Sally Rooney novel to be adapted for Hulu, our quartet of lovers heads to Croatia. Where in Croatia? We don’t know. Why are they there? It’s gorgeous. For what? To write, ponder, soak in the sun, sip white wine, and converse. (I mean… did you read the title of the show?) Really, it’s more tense than that basic-level description. Famed writer Melissa (Jemima Kirke) has invited her two younger mentees, Frances (Alison Oliver) and Bobbi (Sasha Lane), to her friends’ house in Croatia. But as Melissa starts to confront issues with her marriage, Frances sleeps with her husband, Nick (Joe Alwyn), the two secret lovers sneaking around the creaky old house and into each other’s bed. As gorgeous as the villa is, the coordination was as tricky as finagling around an affair. For starters, Conversations’ production designer Anna Rackard tells The Daily Beast that the actual house looks nothing like what we see in the final cut. When asked to describe the layout of the Croatian villa,...

But Kupp still showed up this week for the first voluntary workouts of the Rams’ truncated offseason. He isn’t about to stay home out of financial displeasure or football exhaustion while the rest of the Rams are getting to work on chasing their second ring. “I think it’s important to be here, be around the guys and be around this team,” Kupp said Tuesday. “The goal at the end of the day is to win a world title. RABAT, Morocco (AP) — Thousands of Moroccans staged nationwide protests Sunday to complain about the soaring prices of fuel and other essential commodities. The North African kingdom is the latest of several countries to see public anger erupt over high global energy prices, which are driving decades-high inflation numbers around the world. The Moroccan demonstrations coincide with the 11th anniversary of the wave of protests known as the Feb. 20 movement, inspired by the Arab Spring pro-democracy uprisings that took place around the region in 2011. In the capital of Rabat, a protest took place outside the parliament building. Holding placards, protesters chanted slogans against the government for its failure to keep spiraling prices under control, leading more people to fall into poverty. Police were deployed in force around the protest site. Smaller demonstrations broke out in other cities where protesters demanded that government immediately intervene to improve the people’s purchasing power. The minister delegate in charge of the budget, Fouzi Lekjaa, noted that the government has adopted multiple measures to alleviate the strain on Moroccan households,...

Amid an NFL-wide spike in coronavirus cases, the Ravens on Tuesday placed backup center Trystan Colon on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Colon, who has appeared in nine games this season, could be out for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers or even longer. Under NFL protocols, fully vaccinated players who test positive need to return two negative tests at least 24 hours apart to be cleared for team activities, as long as they’re asymptomatic. Unvaccinated players with infections must quarantine for at least 10 days, while unvaccinated players who are deemed high-risk close contacts must sit out at least five days and continue to test negative throughout. Colon, a second-year player who was undrafted out of Missouri, has played just eight offensive snaps over the Ravens’ past six games. He earned a season-high 26 snaps after replacing an injured Bradley Bozeman in a Week 6 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Colon’s designation comes a day after Ravens practice squad wide receiver Binjimen Victor was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Positive tests around the league have skyrocketed...
BERGAMO, Italy (AP) — Villarreal secured the final place in the last 16 of the Champions League by holding on for a 3-2 win at Atalanta on Thursday in a game that had been postponed because of snowfall. Former President Donald Trump went after the media Monday for continuing to report that he tested positive for COVID-19 three days before the first presidential debate and six days before he announced he had the disease.  'The Fake News continues to push the false narrative that I had COVID prior to the first debate,' Trump said in a statement. 'Biden goes around coughing on people all over the place, and yet the Corrupt News doesn't even cover it.'   Last week, the Guardian obtained a copy of Trump's former chief of staff Mark Meadows' forthcoming book, where Meadows revealed Trump had tested positive for COVID-19 the day of the Amy Coney Barrett 'super-spreader' event, which had previously been kept a secret.  Biden had a cold on Friday, which he said came from his grandson Beau, with the White House saying he had been tested for COVID-19 multiple times.   The Washington Post conducted an analysis of Trump's interactions following the initial Guardian report and found that he came in contact with more than 500 people from the day he received the positive COVID test...
This year's only total solar eclipse will take place tomorrow morning, plunging parts of Antarctica into darkness for two minutes, NASA has said. The rare spectacle of the moon blocking out the sun will reach its greatest extent at around 07:33 GMT for viewers near the edge of Antarctica's Ronne Ice Shelf. The eclipse will provide a short respite from the long summer's day Antarctica has been experiencing since October — in fact, the sun won't set there again until April.   While this may go largely missed, viewers elsewhere in the southern hemisphere including parts of Australia, Chile and New Zealand, will see a partial eclipse. Solar eclipses only occur roughly every six months, because the moon doesn't quite orbit in the same plane around the Earth as it goes around the sun. On top of this, total solar eclipses are about three times rarer and are only seen by those in the 60–160-mile-wide path of the moon's shadow. The next total solar eclipse will not occur until April 8, 2024 but, unlike Saturday's event, it will be widely visible in parts of Canada,...

The longest partial lunar eclipse of the century will take place on Friday morning, making the moon appear red for up to 3.5 hours.  It will darken the moon for most of the planet on November 19, with up to 97 per cent of the moon slipping into Earth's shadow. The best place to view the eclipse will be North America, where almost all of the 3.5 hours will be visible, as it will be nighttime when the eclipse begins.  'This is an exceptionally deep partial eclipse,' EarthSky explained, leaving just a thin sliver of the moon exposed to direct sun light at the point of maximum eclipse.  The rest of the moon will take on a reddish, rust colour, typical of a total lunar eclipse and caused by light waves from the sun being filtered by Earth's atmosphere.  According to the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, the partial eclipse will be 'barely visible in the UK' as it occurs when the moon is close to or below the horizon.  The longest partial lunar eclipse of the century will take place on Friday morning, according...

These are now Juan Soto’s Washington Nationals. He is their lone bona fide superstar, someone around whom they will try to rebuild — or, to use general manager Mike Rizzo’s preferred term, “reboot.” Soto is the only player left from the 2019 World Series champions who managed to make any sort of truly meaningful contribution throughout this disappointment of a 65-97, last-place season who is also in the fold for next year after a significant sell-off at the trade deadline. “I can’t wait to watch him continue to do what he does and watch him grow. He’s truly one of the best young players in the game, if not THE best young player in the game,” manager Dave Martinez said. ”It’s been a lot of fun to be here with him, and I expect us to be together for a long time.” Whether Rizzo can figure out a way to keep Soto around, via what folks already are speculating will need to be a record-setting extension before the outfielder can become a free agent after the 2024 season, is a...
Perennial provocateur Lena Dunham did something entirely uncontroversial this week: she had a lovely time at her wedding. Per Vogue, the former Girls star and writer married a musician named Luis Felber in a “whimsical, whirlwind London wedding.” The designer Christopher Kane, who has worked with Dunham in the past, made three dresses for the festivities. Her bridesmaids included Taylor Swift and Tommy Dorfman. There were six tiny wedding cakes for guests to pick at. The first dance was “This Will Be Our Year” by The Zombies. All very adorable stuff, indeed. The bride told Vogue that her ceremonial gown was inspired by 1960s kitsch and Sharon Tate, which is a somewhat morbid inspiration, but whatever Lena wants I guess. Dunham, who is immunocompromised, did tell Vogue that many of her 60 guests had to cancel traveling due to COVID restrictions and fears. Everyone who had to celebrate the new couple needed to pass “two lateral flow tests”—four words which do not sound very romantic—and present proof of vaccination. (So for everyone whose favorite new parlor game is ‘Which...

DARYL Powell took one look at the place he used to sit and the turnstile he used to go through as a fan and realised, ‘This is it.’ Whatever happens tonight, this will be his last home match as Castleford coach, the club he revitalised over eight years after being a supporter in the late 1970s. 3 Daryl Powell admits just looking around Castleford's ground meant emotion hit him ahead of his final match thereCredit: SWPIX.COM Ahead of facing Warrington, the club he joins next season, he took a solo walk around Wheldon Road, the place he has made so intimidating since rejoining his boyhood heroes in 2013. And the memories came flooding back ahead of an emotional night – but one he hopes sees them seize a place in the play-offs. Powell said: “We had a day off on Tuesday and I started reflecting, then after team run yesterday I walked around and looked at the ground itself – some of which is the same as when I supported them! “Memories of both teams I coached and watched as...
SHANKSVILLE, Pa. (KDKA) — Saturday will mark 20 years since Flight 93 was hijacked and crashed in Shanksville, Somerset County. It’s commonly remembered as the “Field in Pennsylvania.” READ MORE: President Joe Biden Announces Sweeping New Vaccine Mandates For 100 Million Americans The images from September 11, 2001, are seared into our memory. That’s when the field became a place of reverence. For almost seven decades prior, it was part of Tim Lambert’s family. “I would spend time there fishing, running in the woods,” Lambert told KDKA. (Photo Credit: KDKA) Then came that fateful day. Lambert is a journalist and was covering everything unfolding. He came home around 1 a.m. on Sept. 12, 2001, to a message from his father on the answering machine. “I don’t know if you saw the video today of the crater of Flight 93, but those trees are ours,” Lambert recalls. He was brought out to the site on his family’s land three weeks later. “You could still smell the jet fuel. So right off the bat, that was a big-time reminder of what...

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Mariners outfielder Jake Fraley has been placed on the COVID-19 list after testing positive on Saturday. Fraley did not play in Friday and Saturday’s games against the Los Angeles Angels. Manager Scott Servais said after Friday’s game that Fraley was under the weather after the initial test was negative. Servais said before Sunday’s game that Fraley was experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and that he has been quarantined. Fraley will be quarantined for at least 10 days from the day he first started showing symptoms. Servais said he is hoping no other players will have to be isolated. Most of the players who were contact traced to Fraley were already vaccinated. The Mariners had to place four pitchers on the COVID-19 list in late May after a road trip to San Diego with two eventually having to quarantine. Fraley’s case adds to a spike in positive COVID-19 results around Major League Baseball since the All-Star break. The Yankees and Rockies have had coronavirus outbreaks sidelining 10 players and two coaches, “My concern level is relatively high...
A police incident that prompted a shelter-in-place order for West Chester residents Monday evening was in response to a suicidal and possibly armed individual, authorities said. Officers responded to a report of a welfare check of a person living in the 200 block of North Everhart Avenue around 4:30 p.m., West Chester police said. How can we be sure that we’ve drifted into the Worst Possible Timeline? Because it’s always CPAC. Not content with one event in 2021, the Conservative Political Action Conference is on again, with CPAC Part 2, Eclectic Bugaboos now underway in Dallas.  Once upon a time, the History Channel actually had shows about history. The Science Channel had shows that tried to explain science. The Discovery Channel had programming that did not involve people redesigning a cottage, cabin, or breezy loft apartment. In each case, the people behind those platforms seem to have started out with high-minded ideals, with the intention of bringing knowledge to members of the public who were drawn to their channels by the implication behind the name. Then, somewhere along the line, they discovered that they could draw more eyeballs more cheaply with programming where wild-eyed commentators talked about ancient aliens, sincere plumbers spent their off hours searching for ghosts, and perky hosts convinced people that gluing straw to their walls was a good look. Maybe something similar happened with CPAC. At the very least, Republicans used to act...
