HOW good would it be if Nashwa took on Baaeed in the Juddmonte International? The unbeaten superstar's next outing in the £1m Juddmonte International next Wednesday looks like being a damp squib, with no Desert Crown in the mix. 2Nashwa added a second Group 1 to her CV at Glorious Goodwood under Hollie DoyleCredit: PA Mishriff and Native Trail look the only viable opposition, so why not throw Nashwa, who would get lumps of weight, in and give us fans a real Group 1 to get excited about. Word is Nashwa's Kuwaiti owner Imad Al Sagar is open to having a crack at nine from nine Baaeed. However, trainer John Gosden apparently isn't quite so keen. I put it to Lord Grimthorpe, racing manager to Al Sagar and, coincidentally, on the board at York, home to the Juddmonte. He said: "She's still in the race. There have been a couple of injuries to some horses but there's still the matter of Baaeed. OFFERS OF THE DAY William Hill: Bet £10 Get £30 in Free Bets - CLAIM HERE Betfair...
LIFE’S a Beach for trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam. Her stable star Saffron Beach bagged a second Group 1 with a brave front-running win in the Prix Rothschild at Deauville. 1Saffron Beach bagged her second Group 1 in France on TuesdayCredit: Zuzanna Lupa The likeable filly ran out a wide-margin winner of the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot back in June. And she followed that up with an even better performance under a perfectly-judged ride from William Buick. The four-year-old had a target on her back throughout and looked like being swamped as the pack closed up with around three furlongs to race. But top jockey Buick had kept something up his sleeve and when he asked Saffron Beach for maximum effort she picked up and went clear again inside the final 100 yards. SANTA CLARA — Trey Lance might not be the quarterback that the 49ers want him to be. He might not take this team from good to great — the mandate that comes when you replace a quarterback like Jimmy Garoppolo. But though his first few days as the Niners’ clear-cut No. 1, it’s easy to see why Shanahan bet it all on Lance. No. 5 is as physically talented as any quarterback in the NFL, and his head is screwed on straight. If a change had to be made at quarterback in San Francisco — and I would certainly argue that the Niners had reached their peak with Jimmy Garoppolo at the helm — then this is the kind of quarterback that’s worthy of a tall stack of chips. We won’t have a real read on Lance until we see him play a great deal of real football. A few days of padless practice is not a quality barometer. Now, we might have answers in the winter, not the end of August. What we’ve seen so far...

Getty Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II at the 2022 American Century Championship. The Kansas City Chiefs did not stand idly by this offseason after their fourth consecutive season reaching the AFC championship game. Management didn’t say — let’s run it back and give it another shot with the same group of players. No, general manager Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid were not complacent at all. Instead, they made tough decisions moving on from key pieces like Tyreek Hill, Tyrann Mathieu and Anthony Hitchens in an effort to better the future, even if it meant risking the present. It was a nervous start to the offseason for fans as the recent football juggernaut reshaped itself but after a strong free agency period and draft, few are doubting what the Chiefs can accomplish in 2022. UiPath, a provider of software for automating office tasks, led the charge, surging 17%. The company late Wednesday reported a narrower-than-expected loss for the first quarter, while revenue topped estimates. UiPath raised its revenue guidance for the full year, also surpassing analysts' expectations. Daniel Dines, UiPath's CEO, started off the company's earnings call by acknowledging the tough economic conditions that have pulled down valuations in 2022. "Choppy macro environments typically reveal areas that can be improved," Dines said. "To that end, the team is focused on simplifying our go-to-market approach, starting with an alignment that will result in better market segmentation, higher sales productivity and best-in-class customer experience and outcomes." Even after Thursday's pop, UiPath has lost more than half its value this year....

The Detroit Lions drafted a player they expect to make a big difference right off the bat during the 2022 season in Aidan Hutchinson, and some early projections have that being the case. Many have favored Hutchinson to be in the mix to claim the Rookie Defensive Player of the Year honors for next season, and think that the player is primed to elevate what has been a terrible defense in terms of generating a positive pass rush. There are great unknowns accompanying Tom Brady’s 10-year, $375 million bombshell deal with Fox Sports making the (as of today) Bucs quarterback, and cinch Hall of Famer, its No. 1 NFL analyst. Like when will Brady ultimately exit the playing field and enter the booth? Or are Fox Sports suits finished wheeling and dealing? Much of the reaction to the Foxies bold move is about whether Brady, who mostly showed his stoic side, while using an economy of words during his 22 years’ worth of meetings with the media, has the every-man personality, the likeability factor and verbal skills to handle such a high-wire (sans net) act? Brady likely will be working with play-by-play man Kevin Burkhardt, a steady voice. Yet considering the unorthodox history of Fox Sports, what’s to stop the Foxies from going to a three-person booth? Brady would be placed in a more conversational setting. Partners? For added buzz, Fox could call on one of Brady’s security blankets in New England: Rob Gronkowski, who has already worked for Fox. Or Julian Edelman, who has already made some...
In this article TSLAVIDEO2:3802:38Options Action: Countdown to Tesla earningsOptions ActionOptions traders are making a ton of noise in Tesla's stock as the company gears up to report earnings after the bell Wednesday. The electric vehicle manufacturer headed up by Elon Musk — who continues to make a lot of noise himself — has struggled so far this year, but the options market is betting that Tesla could be back in positive territory for 2022 by the end of this week. "[Tesla] was the fourth-busiest [single stock option] in contract terms today and the busiest in notional terms. Right now, the options market is implying a move of about 6% by the end of the week," Optimize Advisors CIO Michael Khouw said Tuesday on CNBC's "Fast Money." Bullish traders were largely responsible for the flood of trading volume Tesla's options experienced Tuesday, though the most popular contract targeted a post-earnings move slightly smaller than the 6% predicted by the market as a whole. "The most active options were the [April 22 weekly] 1,100 and 1,050-strike calls. The 1,050s, for example, saw...

He's pivoting his Hong Kong-based company Animoca Brands to help shape Web3 in a way that he says will offer an alternative to the tech giants — from Meta to Microsoft, Tencent and Snap — as consumers enter a new immersive market but are wary of a technology that could still be tightly controlled by the biggest corporations.    Since metaverse-like elements began popping up in video games in 2018, the Hong Kong-based upstart has scrambled to invest, acquire and build a next iteration of the internet. "We are investing aggressively and broadly to facilitate the growth of the open metaverse," said Siu, Animoca Brands' executive chairman. "We're in a bit of a hurry because we think the biggest threat isn't regulation, but it is groups like Facebook or Tencent. This model of an open metaverse is very much in contradiction to...

The Silicon Valley venture capital firm led a $450 million investment in Polygon, a blockchain network. Blockchains are the distributed logs of transactions that underpin many of the world's major digital currencies. They are maintained by a network of computers, which have to reach consensus across the whole system to confirm transactions and mint new units of currency. Polygon serves as a support layer to Ethereum, the platform behind the ether cryptocurrency, helping it process transactions at scale. The Ethereum network is different from bitcoin's in that it supports applications for things like non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and decentralized finance (DeFi) services, not just peer-to-peer transfers. How Polygon worksOver the years, the Ethereum blockchain has become congested as more and more users have piled in, resulting in slower transaction times and higher processing fees. This has led to the creation of so-called "Layer 2"...
In this article NFLXReed Hastings, Co-CEO, Netflix speaks at the 2021 Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills, California, U.S. October 18, 2021.David Swanson | ReutersFor a company that had seen shares rise 600-fold in less than 20 years, Netflix has always had its share of doubters. After its Jan. 20 report that it had slightly missed Wall Street targets for subscriber growth, those doubters pushed shares to less than half of their highs last fall, betting that the time has finally come when the video-streaming giant runs out of hypergrowth. Now a $1 billion investment from hedge-fund titan Bill Ackman puts the question in stark relief: Should Netflix be a value stock now, with the company adapting to slowing growth by spending less and watching profit margins? And if it is, can it be a good one? "If you think there are only 300 million potential streaming subscribers in the world, you should cut spending, raise prices and capitalize on the network you have," LightShed Partners media analyst Rich Greenfield said. "But there are huge pockets of growth out...

DALLAS (AP) — Airlines are planning for a big December, believing that the recent surge in a highly contagious COVID-19 variant is fading and that holiday travel will soar. The carriers say that even after encouraging thousands of employees to quit during the height of the pandemic, they will be able to handle the holiday load. But in an ominous note, Southwest Airlines reported Thursday that it lost $75 million due to a blizzard of flight cancellations this month — disruptions that started with bad weather in Florida but cascaded out of control because of staffing problems. The airline trimmed its schedule and believe it has fixed the problem. The airlines are also contending with rising fuel costs and the expense of hiring more employees. Southwest predicted it will lose money in the fourth quarter. American Airlines struggled with widespread delays early this summer, then brought back more pilots from leaves of absence. American said it will run nearly a full schedule, including more than 6,000 flights on some peak days during the holidays. “We expect a lot of passengers,...

China's President Xi Jinping speaks during a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, April 7, 2017.Carlos Barria | Reuters Chinese President Xi Jinping is making the most audacious geopolitical bet of the 21st century. A head-spinning series of seemingly disparate moves over recent months add up to nothing less than a generational wager that Xi can produce the world's dominant power for the foreseeable future by doubling down on his state-controlled economy, party-disciplined society, nationalistic propaganda, and for-reaching global influence campaigns. With each week, Xi raises the stakes further, from narrowing seemingly mundane personal freedoms like karaoke bars or a teenager's permitted time for online gaming to three hours weekly to the multimillion U.S. dollar investor hit from his increased controls on China's biggest technology companies and their foreign listings.   It is only in the context of Xi's increased repressions at home and expanded ambitions abroad that one can fully understand Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison's decision this week to enter a new defense pact, which he called "a forever agreement,"...

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — A company that most of the legal U.S. sports betting industry uses to verify that its customers are where they say they are reports a record number of transactions over the first weekend of the NFL season. That helps confirm an expected a big increase in the level of online betting as football season got under way in a nation with many more places to bet this year. GeoComply Solutions, the Vancouver, Canada-based tech company, said Monday it recorded 58.2 million geolocation transactions across 18 states and Washington, D.C. from Thursday night, when the NFL season began, through 7 p.m. EST on Sunday. That represents a 126% increase from the same period of the 2020 NFL season, when GeoComply processed 25.8 million transactions. “We expected high volumes, but what we have seen has surprised us nonetheless,” said Lindsay Slader, a managing director with Geocomply. “The level of demand across new markets, such as Arizona, indicates that consumers have long waited for the option to legally place a sports bet.” The data records the amount of...

The payments giant said Thursday it entered into an agreement to buy CipherTrace for an undisclosed amount. The company's competitors include New York-based Chainalysis and London start-up Elliptic. "With the rapid growth of the digital asset ecosystem comes the need to ensure it is trusted and safe." Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Former American Horror Story ensemble cast members: Where are they now? Elder fraud: What to know about financial scams Stop if you've heard this one: A bettor walks into a sportsbook, and tells the ticket writer to give him (or her) $1,000 on Mike McCarthy to win NFL coach of the year.  That's it, that's the punchline.  A bettor made a wager at BetMGM that will get some eye rolls. The bettor took McCarthy, the oft-criticized Dallas Cowboys coach, to win coach of the year at 30-to-1 odds. It would pay $30,000.  Jokes aside, it's not too bad of a bet.  Can Mike McCarthy win coach of the year?  Coach of the year, across all sports, is a weird award. It rarely goes to the best coach. Think about that for a moment. It's usually based on which team most outperformed its preseason expectations. It can't be that the preseason predictions were just wrong. It had to be a genius coaching job, right?  That makes handicapping coach of the year different than any other award. You probably should eliminate...

(CNN)Joe Biden believes that you don't care about Afghanistan. Or, maybe more accurately, that you won't care about it by the time the 2022 (and 2024) elections rolls around. He -- and his top aides-- wouldn't put it that way, of course. But every signal he and they are sending makes clear that they simply do not believe the debacle of the last 10 days will be a voting issue for most Americans.Start with Biden's first speech on Afghanistan six days ago -- his first major remarks since the Taliban effectively took over the country. While Biden bowed to the dangers posed by the need to evacuate thousands of Americans from the country, he was resolute about his decision to withdraw all American troops from the country. Here's the key bit: "I stand squarely behind my decision. After 20 years, I've learned the hard way that there was never a good time to withdraw US forces."Read MoreThe message was clear: We are not staying in Afghanistan indefinitely -- no matter how ugly things looks right now. That position was built on two things:...
20 excellent podcasts for listeners who love a good story The Godfather mansion finally sells after $148m price cut Texas A&M opens the season ranked No. 6 in the AP Top 25, but is considered somewhat of a longshot to win the national title. Being in the same division as Alabama will do that. Nonetheless, one bettor at BetMGM is very confident that the Aggies have what it takes to win it all. The bettor put down $4,000 on the Aggies to win the national championship at +4000. If that comes to fruition and A&M wins its first national championship in football since 1939, the bettor would win $160,000. At +4000, the Aggies are tied with Iowa State for the sixth-best national championship odds, trailing Alabama (+260), Clemson (+450), Ohio State (+600), Georgia (+600) and Oklahoma (+800). Texas A&M is coming off a 9-1 record in 2020, its third season with Jimbo Fisher as head coach. The Aggies’ only loss was in Week 2 at Alabama, and it was a 52-24 blowout. From there, they closed out the season...
Alex Rodriguez Shares Photo Of Himself Posing With Porsche He Once Gifted Ex Jennifer Lopez Facebook Hit by New U.S. Antitrust Case as FTC Seeks Do-Over It's not unprecedented for a grand slam draft class to change a team's fortunes.  It happened with the New Orleans Saints, who crushed the 2017 draft and then began a run of Super Bowl contention. The Indianapolis Colts had a great draft in 2018 and got a big boost afterward.  We don't know how this New York Jets draft class will turn out, but the early reviews are good. Quarterback Zach Wilson, offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker, receiver Elijah Moore and running back Michael Carter have all gotten great reviews in camp.  The question for bettors: How much will they impact the Jets' fortunes this season?  © Provided by Yahoo! 25 movies that definitely did not need a sequel 50 Purchases Buyers Almost Always Regret The Big 12 conference tends to offer some of the most entertaining football due to the aerial gameplans. It’s a polarizing conference to say the least. Some games have you believing that the Big 12 is making big strides on defense, while other games leave you wondering if the entire front seven stayed home that day. For this reason, trying to predict the exact Big 12 championship matchup is like solving a Rubik's cube. Perhaps I’m also just biased as a Longhorn by thinking they’ll win it all every year. Instead of looking at pre-season futures, focus on some betting angles that could come in handy for the 2021 season. Oklahoma Sooners: The best bet at home Under head coach Lincoln Riley, the Sooners are 22-2 at home in the last four years. The two losses were against Iowa State in 2017 as 31-point favorites and Kansas State last season as 27-point favorites. If you like to bet big-favorite moneyline parlays, add Oklahoma to...

Two Disney World employees among 17 arrested in Florida child-sex sting Beyond roads and bridges: inside the $1 trillion US infrastructure plan © Ezra Shaw/Getty Images TOKYO—Beach volleyball star April Ross needed a new partner after the Rio Olympics, and when she found the perfect one—an unproven but brilliant player named Alix Klineman—it created an entirely new problem.  They could either wind up as America’s best chance at gold in Tokyo or miss the Olympics entirely because of how Klineman’s inexperience paved a long road to merely qualifying.  It was a spectacular bet that’s already paying off: Ross and Klineman are headed to the finals. They’re one win away from gold.  The Ross-Klineman duo has gone undefeated through its first six matches, dropping just one set before the gold medal match. But the most amazing part of their Olympic run isn’t their success at Shiokaze Park. It’s that they made it here.  Ross picked an inexperienced partner after running into Klineman at a music festival. They nearly faced disaster en route to qualification until the most incredibly timed fire...
In this article GMVIDEO3:1103:11Options Action: GM earnings on tapOptions ActionOptions traders are betting that GM shares will hit the gas when the automaker reports earnings before the bell Wednesday morning. The stock has been stuck in a rut as of late, trading sideways since mid-March, and falling nearly 10% from its June highs. However, the majority of Monday's options activity in GM pointed to this week's earnings report as a potential turnaround catalyst. "We saw calls outpacing puts by a little more than 3-to-1, although I would point out that over the last 20 days, the flow has generally been pretty bullish," Optimize Advisors CIO Michael Khouw said Monday on CNBC's "Fast Money." Khouw also noted that the market is implying a larger-than-average post-earnings move in the stock of more than 5% in either direction by Friday's close. If that move pans out on the bullish end, it would take a significant chunk out of GM's recent losses, and many traders are betting that the stock could do exactly that. "The most active options [Monday] were the weekly 58-strike calls,"...

He was one of the best backs in football each season. He experienced a major drop in 2020.  The Cowboys fell apart and Elliott was a big part of that. His yards per game plummeted to from a career mark of 96.5 to 65.3. His backup Tony Pollard looked more explosive. There are two more preliminary games to go for the U.S. before the knockout rounds begin. The women play Hungary on Wednesday and the Russian athletes on Friday.
