Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has been straight-up suffering in Denver, and the number of sacks on him should be a point of concern. Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has gained attention throughout the league for all the wrong reasons as even the Carolina Panthers have begun to mock him. He’s doing much worse than anyone could’ve expected this season. This isn’t the Wilson that Seattle Seahawks fans knew and loved, and he’s already in a much worse spot than he was last season, before this season is even over. Russell Wilson was sacked 33 times last season with Seattle (14 games). He has already been sacked 35 times this season with Denver (10 games). pic.twitter.com/71qBDEU0zL — CBS Sports (@CBSSports) November 29, 2022 He’s on track to having the worst season of his career thus far. He’s never finished a season with a completion percentage below 61.3 or less than 3,113 yards and 21 touchdowns. With just six games left this season, he’s likely to finish below each this season. Right now, he’s recorded 198 completions for a completion percentage...
Despite the 10-3 loss to the Patriots, the Jets still find themselves in the heart of a playoff race. If the postseason started today, Gang Green would be the seventh and final seed in AFC. That’s one of the many reasons the Jets had to bench Zach Wilson and start Mike White this weekend against the Bears. While he was 5-2 as the team’s starting quarterback this year, Wilson continued to make some of the same on-the-field mistakes as a rookie. That was evidenced during the game against the Patriots, where he sailed passes over receiver’s heads and nearly had multiple interceptions as he completed 9 of 22 passes for 77 yards and zero touchdowns. Since returning from the meniscus injury that kept him out for seven weeks, Wilson’s play has been mediocre as he has thrown for 1,279 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions. His play has been so poor that Joe Flacco, who started only three games this season in place of Wilson, still leads the team in touchdown passes (five). If his abysmal play wasn’t bad enough,...
Getty Austin Bryant blocks a punt against the Vikings in 2020. The Detroit Lions have been hoping for players to step up along their defensive line in camp, and it appears the message has been received by at least one young player. Coming into the offseason, many didn’t see a path to the roster for edge rusher Austin Bryant. At this point, though, it could be impossible to leave him off the team given what he has done in training camp. Bryant has responded with grit during camp, often standing out for making plays. With another day of joint-practice against the Indianapolis Colts as the backdrop, he managed to shine yet again. Detroit’s defense had sustained some trouble in their first battles against the Colts, but that changed Thursday. As the media present revealed including Kyle Meinke of MLive.com, the team stiffened in a big way, led by Bryant’s dominating day. No touchdowns allowed in red zone, followed by no touchdowns allowed during 2-minute drills. Monster response from a defense that struggled yesterday. Speaking of monster …...
Getty Josh Allen runs on the field before a Buffalo Bills game. Josh Allen has ascended to the top of the quarterback ladder in the NFL, but the Buffalo Bills quarterback still believes he has room to improve. Ahead of the start of training camp, Allen opened up about the aspects of his game that he hopes to shore up in the coming season. Though he has been steadily cutting down on mistakes since a freewheeling rookie season, Allen said he can still do more to limit his turnovers while also setting up the team’s pass-catchers up for more success. Allen Reveals Goals for 2022 Speaking to the team website, Allen said there will be a learning curve in the upcoming season under new offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, who was the team’s quarterback coach last season. Get ready Jets fans. Phase three of Gang Green’s offseason has started with OTA’s kicking off this week. The Jets entered the offseason with a plethora of assets to infuse their roster with talent and they succeeded in acquiring players who can supercharge their rebuild after finishing 4-13 in 2021. The Jets have 10 OTA practices over the next three weeks, which are all voluntary. Then mandatory minicamp begins from June 14-16. Robert Saleh said there won’t be as many 11-on-11 sessions to lessen the load on the defensive and offensive linemen, which means more 7-on-7. But here are the two more intriguing storylines to follow during OTAs. IMPROVED WILSON IN YEAR TWO Around this time last year, Wilson joined the Jets as the No. 2 pick — after dominating in his final year at BYU — and big expectations were made. Wilson will enter the coming season with legitimate questions surrounding him after a rough first year, in which he tossed nine touchdowns, 2,334 yards passing with 11 interceptions, and completed 55% of his passes. The second year QB...

There’s still time left down the stretch for Pittsburgh to sneak in, but fans aren’t overly optimistic here. With that said, it’s been made more than clear that some major changes are needed next season and multiple guys won’t be back on the roster. So, who won’t be suiting up for Mike Tomlin come 2022? A look at Week 13 in the Southeastern Conference: GAME OF THE WEEK No. 8 Mississippi (9-2, 5-2) at Mississippi State (7-4, 4-3), Thursday night. The SEC West Division race is over for Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Yet, both the Rebels and Bulldogs have high-powered offenses that will put on a must-see Thanksgiving night show. Ole Miss leads the SEC with 517 yards a game while Mississippi State tops the league with more than 390 yards a game passing this season. Naturally, the attacks are triggered by experienced and talented quarterbacks. The Rebels’ Matt Corral led the country in total offense a year ago and has continued that run this season. He’s passed for 3,105 yards and 19 touchdowns and run for 552 yards and 10 touchdowns. Corral’s Bulldogs counterpart is Will Rogers, who has thrived under coach Mike Leach’s pass-heavy schemes. Rogers has thrown for 4,113 yards and 34 touchdowns to lead the SEC in total offense. Sure sounds like a game of whoever has the ball last wins. Mississippi won last year’s rivalry game, 31-24, and...
More On: nfl Urban Meyer acknowledges harsh Tim Tebow ‘reality’ One team can be ruled out of Tom Brady ‘motherf–ker’ mystery The NFL has a gun problem Tom Brady goes scorched earth on mystery ‘motherf–ker’ team People around the NFL believe they have identified the “motherf—ker” Tom Brady was referring to last week: Derek Carr. That’s according to Pro Football Talk, which reported Monday that multiple sources believe Brady was talking about the Raiders when he quipped last week on HBO’s The Shop: “One of the teams, they weren’t interested at the very end. I was thinking, ‘You’re sticking with that motherf–ker?” It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Raiders expressed interest in Brady last offseason when the future Hall of Famer was a free agent for the first time. The Raiders have only made the postseason once in Carr’s seven-year tenure, falling in the Wild Card round in 2017. Carr’s job has seemed unstable for some time, leading to several trade rumors over the years — including this offseason, when Las Vegas reportedly inquired about Seahawks...

The Aaron Rodgers saga continues to dominate headlines and free agency wasn't necessarily too kind to the Packers, but they were still able to retain a couple of important players. Given where things stood a few months ago when a high school football season this academic year looked like a long shot at best, a handful of games are better than none. But with only two weeks left for most teams, it’s impossible not to wonder what might have been for those that have separated from the pack. Pittsburg, Serra, Los Gatos, James Logan — and, of course, De La Salle — had another impressive weekend. On back-to-back days, Pittsburg and Serra ran the same flea-flicker on the first play, both resulting in touchdowns. Pittsburg led Liberty 49-0 at halftime, Serra held a 42-7 advantage over St. Francis at the break. Los Gatos scored 35 points in the first quarter of its blowout of Mountain View. James Logan had no problem against injury-plagued Moreau Catholic. And De La Salle opened the weekend with a running-clock win over Jesuit-Carmichael, getting three touchdowns from Nico Torrez, a kid who hit a triple for the school’s baseball team earlier in the day. When will that...

Students arent learning to read during COVID-19, but ‘expectations are no different’ How the Murdochs are shaping the GOP for the next 4 years of Joe Biden Whether it happens via the draft or free agency, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com expects the Dolphins to acquire a feature running back this offseason. The club is currently rostering 2019 seventh-rounder Myles Gaskin and 2020 UDFA Salvon Ahmed, and while both were useful players last season, Wolfe views them more as complementary pieces than anything else. © Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports We learned last month that there is mutual interest between the Dolphins and Packers RB Aaron Jones, but right now, it appears as if Green Bay might put the franchise tag on Jones. That would leave the Cardinals’ Kenyan Drake and the Seahawks’ Chris Carson as arguably the top RBs eligible for unrestricted free agency. Of those two, Drake — whom Miami traded to Arizona in 2019 — seems more likely to leave his current club. However, the Dolphins have a number of needs, including at wide receiver — Wolfe expects the team to add at...
By Michael Hurley, CBS Boston BOSTON (CBS) — You know, there’s been a whole lot of Tom Brady coverage over the past month or so. It’s only increased over the past 10 days, and it really shot to the moon after the guy earned Super Bowl MVP honors. RELATED: Texans Release J.J. Watt ... Will Patriots Try To Sign Veteran Star? It’s all justified, but it can become a bit much for any of it to really stand out. As someone who may or may not have been responsible for a lot of that Brady coverage, I certainly get it. Whether it’s the historical perspective, or the matter of his age, or the sheer volume of accomplishments, it all sort of washes out at a certain point. It’s called “information overload,” and it’s understandable. Doubly so for those who dislike Brady for this reason or that. Yet with some of the Super Bowl dust now firmly settled, there was one conclusion drawn by a quartet of editors at NFL.com which really stood out as something that crystallized just how insane Tom...

BOSTON (CBS) — Cam Newton will likely be looking for a new team this offseason after a rough one-year stint with the New England Patriots in 2020. He’s letting any prospective employer know that they’ll be getting a slimmed-down version of the quarterback that they saw last season. Newton plans on dropping 20 pounds this offseason, the quarterback revealed on his Instagram account Thursday. That shouldn’t be too difficult given his rigorous workout regime, and the 31-year-old added that his vegan diet will also help in his quest to shed a few lbs. “The healthy organic way!” Newton wrote in his usual font. (Photo from Cam Newton’s Instagram account) The Patriots listed Newton at 245 pounds last season, and the QB is now looking to drop below the weight he was when he was first recruited out of high school when he was 232 pounds. Weight was not an issue for Newton last season, as he was a beast in the running game with 592 yard and 12 rushing touchdowns. His shoulder was the biggest issue, as he threw for...
They soared into Super Bowl 55 quite literally, Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes combining for 605 passing yards in their respective conference championship games. Their arrival in this matchup is no coincidence. Buccaneers vs. Chiefs contains the best quarterback of all time vs. the best quarterback of this time. IYER: Brady leading Bucs to Super Bowl tops playoff runs with Pats There never has been a Super Bowl QB matchup like it. That’s right: 55 Super Bowls, no precedent. Of course, there have been great quarterback duels before: Terry Bradshaw vs. Roger Staubach to close the 1975 and 1978 seasons; Joe Montana vs. Dan Marino to end the 1984 season; John Elway vs. Brett Favre to finish the 1997 season; Peyton Manning vs. Drew Brees to conclude the 2009 season and Brady vs. Russell Wilson to complete the 2014 season. What separates the 2020 season finale from all the others is the presence of the aging GOAT and the one player in the game who feasibly could surpass him. The only thing close in that regard was Montana-Elway in 1989, with Montana already having banked...
Next1 of 5Prev postUse your ← → (arrows) to browse Chris Godwin did not have an ideal contract year, but these five teams should be in the mix to sign him this offseason. With the arrival of Tom Brady came higher expectations for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As a prominent weapon for his new quarterback, Chris Godwin was lined up to a least repeat a breakout 2019 campaign (86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns). But it was not to be. Godwin emerged from Week 1 in the league’s concussion protocol, which cost him Week 2. Then a hamstring issue sidelined him for Week 4 and Week 5. And finally, a fractured finger suffered in Week 7 cost him one game. Intertwined with those ailments was Tampa Bay signing Antonio Brown. Godwin still played plenty, but in Brown’s first five games as a Buccaneer he had less than 55 yards three times and more than six targets twice. Godwin ended the regular season on a high note, with five catches for 133 yards and two touchdowns against the Atlanta Falcons....
Ezekiel Elliott’s numbers look even worse after seeing what Alvin Kamara did on Christmas. Alvin Kamara had a record-setting day for the New Orleans Saints on Christmas. Woman abused by school band teacher gets $2M settlement Joe Biden tops Google people searches in 2020 This stat about Kirk Cousins consistency will change how you think about him © Provided by CBS Sports Kirk Cousins appeared to have finally evolved into the franchise quarterback the Minnesota Vikings were hoping for in 2019. In 15 games played, he completed 69.1 percent of his passes for 3,603 yards, 26 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Additionally, he led the Vikings to an overtime playoff win against the New Orleans Saints on the road, which flipped the narrative about him not being clutch or failing to show up when it mattered most.  Cousins currently has the Vikings at 6-6, but his play has been impressive. After starting 1-5, Minnesota has won five out of its last six games and is squarely in the playoff hunt. Sunday, Nov 29, 2020. 3:57 PM Derrick Henry transported the Tennessee Titans to the top of the American Association’s Southern Section on Sunday. Henry battered the NFL’s second-best defense with 140 yards and three first-half touchdowns and the Titans crushed the Indianapolis Colts 45-26. Henry finished the game with 178 rushing yards and this victory allowed the Titans (8-3) to take the first place in the section and obtain the tiebreaker between the two teams. Henry had 100 rushing yards in a third straight game and in a straight road game, equaling former Titans Chris Johnson for the second longest streak since the 1970 merger. Only Barry Sanders (10th in 1996 -97) had a better streak. While the Colts (7-4) missed three key starters, star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, linebacker Bobby Okereke and defensive end Denico Autry, Henry frequently broke tackles. He became the second player in team history to have three consecutive seasons of 10 or more touchdowns, joining Earl Campbell. It didn’t take long for Henry to set the tone. He touched the...
BOSTON (CBS) — Patriots fans may still have mixed feelings about Tom Brady leaving New England, but they’ll all get to watch the future Hall of Famer take on the best young quarterback in the game on Sunday afternoon. The game is set to kick off at 4:15 p.m. ET in Tampa. Brady and the Bucs will be entering Sunday’s game badly needing a victory. They’ve lost two of their last three games, dropping to 7-4 on the season and drifting farther away from the Saints, who sit in first place in the NFC South with an 8-2 record while owning the head-to-head tiebreaker vs. Tampa. Kansas City, though, will not be taking any games lightly this year, as they remain a game behind the 10-0 Steelers for...
Justin Fields is a Heisman Trophy-favorite and a top NFL Draft prospect for a reason, you know? Le’Veon Bell, welcome to the #GaseFreedomWatch. The Jets are full-on embracing the tank in Year 2 of the Adam Gase era, and to say it’s gone rough is a bit of an understatement. Bell joins a long, established list of former Gase players who have blossomed away from the “brilliant offensive mind” of the much-maligned head coach, which has come to be known as the “Gase Freedom Watch.” It hasn’t taken Gase a long time to make his presence felt on the Jets, ousting talented running back Bell and others in just over a year on the job. Head coach Joe Judge told reporters that the slot receiver will return to the practice field sometime this week where the team will observe how he moves. While there is a chance he gets back into the lineup for Week 6 against the Washington Football Team, the more likely scenario is that he’ll be good to go for the Giants’ Week 7 Thursday-night clash against the Philadelphia Eagles. Shepard suffered a turf toe injury during the Giants’ Week 2 loss to the Chicago Bears, prompting the team to put him on injured reserve. Under IR rules, that meant Shepard was forced to miss a minimum of three games before a window of return was allowed to open. That scenario is still possible for the Tennessee Titans, who treated Week 4 as their bye after having their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers postponed. They are currently scheduled to play the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday night, but that game is contingent upon COVID-19 test results. Silver adds that Week 18 games would only be played if they have a significant impact on the postseason. As...

BALTIMORE (WJZ) – The Ravens have always been known for their stellar defense; and with the addition of Calais Campbell, Derek Wolfe and first-round draft pick Patrick Queen, the defense will be nothing short of spectacular this season. But offensively, this year is different than in previous years. The team has the reigning league MVP, Lamar Jackson, under center and a great supporting cast to do some real damage. Greg Roman is also returning as the team’s offensive coordinator. Last year, Roman expanded the offense by coming up with new schemes and hitting home the 12 and 13 personnel – the double and triple tight ends. The Ravens also added Ohio State standout running back J.K. Dobbins in the draft. Not to mention, the speedy wide receiver Marquise Brown added some size this offseason to make himself an even bigger threat.
