Harris announced that by Father's Day, 13 million eight-ounce bottles will have been brought in by the administration through its 'Operation Fly Formula' airlift.  'This really is about what should be one of the highest purposes for any one of us,' Harris said in a short speech at the airport,  'which is to ensure we are meeting the needs of our children.' The baby formula shortage across the U.S. is continuing to put parents in difficult positions, including one mother who says she only has a two-week supply of the medical-grade formula she needs for her two children and she’s getting no answers from formula makers or lawmakers. Alexa Beichler joined America’s Newsroom on Fox News on Tuesday to discuss her situation, revealing the emergency shipment of 70,000 pounds of formula brought into the country did her no favors. The shipment, prompted by increasing supply chain issues, did not include the specific formula her two children need. Without it, there is the risk of permanent brain damage, the mother said. Beichler recently received a call from representative, Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-VA), but was given no answers once she revealed the 70,000-pound shipment did not contain the formula she needs. “That was kind of upsetting because if she can’t get any answers and I can’t get any answers, who has the answers?” the mother told co-host Julie Banderas. Beichler also said she’s spoken with the maker of the formula she needs and was...

The Express plane will fly from Ramstein Air Base in Germany to Dulles International Airport near Washington, D.C. It's unclear how much formula the plane will carry. The move is meant to address a critical shortage of baby formula in the United States after top formula maker Abbott Laboratories closed a manufacturing plant following reports of bacterial infections in four infants. Abbott said it would take about two weeks to reopen the plant and up to eight weeks for products to hit the shelves nationwide. That's left a wide gap for scores of parents across the nation. In an effort to ease the burden, the Food and Drug Administration is increasing baby formula imports from other countries. The first shipment, carrying 78,000 pounds of specialty infant formula, arrived Sunday. President Joe Biden has...

New iPhone 13s are displayed at an Apple store on Jan. 27, 2022, in Corte Madera, California.Justin Sullivan | Getty Images News | Getty Images The global smartphone market grew for the first time in four years — but the total number of devices shipped last year remained below the pre-pandemic level, according to a report from market research firm Counterpart Research. Annual smartphone shipment grew 4% year on year to 1.39 billion handsets in 2021 even as the Covid pandemic and a worldwide components shortage hampered supplies. Counterpoint data showed that in 2017, smartphone makers shipped 1.56 billion units and that figure subsequently declined every year from 2018 to 2020. Pent-up demand in places like North America, Latin America and India contributed to the market's overall growth last year, according to Harmeet Singh Walia, senior analyst at Counterpoint Research. "Growth in the US was driven largely by demand for Apple's first 5G-enabled iPhone 12 series seeping through to the first quarter of 2021," Walia said in a statement. That demand continued throughout the year as the October-December quarter ended...

Seychelles, the world's most Covid-vaccinated nation with more than 60 per cent of its adult population having received two jabs, has reintroduced restrictions because of a spike in cases. All schools have been closed and sporting activities cancelled for two weeks in the idyllic Indian Ocean archipelago, as infections continue to surge. Measures also include a ban on house-hold mixing, some types of gatherings, and the early closure of shops, bars and casinos. Non-essential workers are also being encouraged to work from home, and an 11 pm curfew will remain in force. The restrictions come despite the country fully vaccinating over 62 per cent of its adult population with two doses — the second highest rate in the world.  Only Gibraltar, a British overseas territory, has had a more successful roll-out, data shows. There are currently 1,068 active cases in the Seychelles, of which a third have been detected in people given two doses of either AstraZeneca's or China's Sinopharm's vaccine.   It is unclear what has triggered the surge in cases but testing has detected the South African variant spreading on the...

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — A shipment of COVID-19 vaccines produced in China arrived in Hungary on Tuesday, making it the first of the European Union’s 27 nations to receive a Chinese vaccine. A jet carrying 550,000 vaccine doses developed by the Chinese state-owned company Sinopharm landed at Budapest’s international airport after flying in from Beijing. The shipment is enough to treat 275,000 people with the two-dose jab, Dr. Agnes Galgoczy of the National Public Health Center told a press conference. “With this vaccine, five different types are now available in Hungary so that we may get as many people vaccinated as quickly as possible,” Galgoczy said, adding that vaccine shots won’t begin until the shipment is evaluated by the National Public Health Center. Hungarian health authorities were the first in the EU to approve the Sinopharm jab for emergency use on Jan. 29. That came after a government decree streamlined Hungary’s vaccine approval process by allowing any vaccine administered to at least 1 million people worldwide to be used without undergoing review by the country’s medicines regulator. The country expects...
More than four tonnes of cocaine were seized by the French Navy A huge consignment of cocaine that was destined for the UK and Europe has been seized off the coast of Barbados. Investigators from the National Crime Agency (NCA), working alongside European law enforcement partners, spent several months tracking a drug trafficking network operating out of South America. They were able to identify a Venezuelan-flagged fishing vessel that was packed with 4.2 tonnes of high purity cocaine. Last week a French naval vessel operating out of Martinique intercepted and boarded the boat in international waters east of Barbados. Investigators have said the high purity drugs would have had a street value of hundreds of millions of pounds and were destined for the streets of Europe. The boat and her eight crew were apprehended and handed over to the Venezuelan authorities. It is understood part of the intelligence that led to the vessel being identified came from the NCA’s international network who were working with international partners through the Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre (MAOC-N) based in Lisbon. Pfizer’s statement comes after Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia and Sweden protested, through a joint letter, that the delivery of vaccines was delayed between three and four weeks. In the letter, the nations indicated that the situation was “unacceptable” and that it “diminished the credibility of the vaccination process.” The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the chief executive of Pfizer had guaranteed the delivery of all the doses ordered by the block by the first quarter of 2021. The company did not specify which markets will be affected by the drop in deliveries. The Mexican administration has a contract to acquire 34 million doses of Pfizer, which will allow 17 million Mexicans to be immunized. Inspire thoroughly. You probably think you are filling your lungs with oxygen. It is not like this. Almost 80% of the air we breathe is nitrogen, the most abundant element in the atmosphere, which is vital for our existence, because, among other things, it is an essential component of nucleic acids and amino acids. Organic life, our life, is pure reactive chemistry, but paradoxically nitrogen is inert, as it does not interact with other elements. When we breathe, nitrogen enters the lungs and leaves again immediately without causing any reaction other than serving as a diluting agent for oxygen in respiration. As states across the country hurry to vaccinate their frontline workers against COVID-19, Tennessee is the only state prioritizing the development of its independent vaccine stockpile. Tennessee’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan is to withhold a portion of the “coveted” vaccines “in case of spoilage of vaccine shipped to facilities,” according to Associated Press. (RELATED: Operation Warp Speed Official Says 20 Million Moderna Vaccines Will Be Distributed By End Of December) The state did not distribute its first shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine that came Monday; thus, health care workers had to await the second shipment that arrived Wednesday, Associated Press reported. Some medical professionals questioned Tennessee’s decision.  “I don’t know all of the reasons that went in to the decision for holding that 975 back, but if any of it was to create a rainy-day stockpile, let me just tell you, there is a hurricane blowing,” Dr. Jason Martin, a critical care physician, said, speaking of the 975 withheld doses from the state’s initial shipment, according to WKRN. “We need the vaccine to be administered and distributed as quickly as possible...
