    (CNN)A shooting during a ballgame at an Atlanta park Sunday left one man dead and five people wounded, including a 6-year-old who was in critical condition, Atlanta police said.The violence began during a baseball or softball game at Dunbar Recreational Center inside Rosa L. Burney Park in southwest Atlanta around 7 p.m. Sunday, Deputy Chief Charles Hampton said.     OAKLAND — A man was killed and two other people were wounded in a drive-by shooting early Saturday in the Uptown district  and another man was in grave condition after another shooting three hours earlier in the downtown area, authorities said. The two shootings do not appear to be related at this time, authorities said. The fatal drive-by shooting happened about 3:16 a.m. in the 1900 block of Broadway. Killed was a 35-year-old Pittsburg man, whose name has not yet been released. A 29-year-old Berkeley woman was shot multiple times and a 37-year-old Berkeley man was shot in the leg.  They were in stable condition at a hospital. At around 6:30 p.m. on August 4, police responded to Fern Oak Circle to find residents of a downstairs unit with a bullet hole in their ceiling, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.  Although no one was injured, officers went to the unit above and found Delontae Harris, 20, with his 2-year-old son, who had shot the gun, authorities said. Law enforcement said the toddler gained access to a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun and shot it through the apartment below. The gun was seized and Harris was charged with felony child endangerment and allowing access of a loaded firearm to a child, the police reported. Delontae was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $2,500 bond and Child Protective Services gave the child to a responsible adult, officials said.

    A man who was camping at an Iowa park with his parents before ruthlessly murdering two parents and their daughter is found to have shot, stabbed and strangled his victims on the morning of July 22 according to autopsies.  Anthony Sherwin, 23, of LaVista, Nebraska, murdered married couple Tyler and Sarah Schmidt, both 42, and their daughter Lula, aged 6 at Maquoketa Caves State Park but the couple's young son, 9-year-old Arlo, escaped the grisly incident unharmed.     A D.C. man was sentenced to eight years in prison on Thursday in the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy on July 4, 2020, in Southeast. Daryle Bond, 20, pleaded guilty in February to voluntary manslaughter in the death of Davon McNeal. After he is done with his sentence, he will be placed on five years of supervised release, the court said. Three other D.C. men pleaded guilty to the same charge in February and were sentenced on June 3 for their roles.     ANKENY, Iowa (AP) — Three family members killed during a shooting last month at an eastern Iowa state park were shot, stabbed and/or strangled, according to autopsy results released Thursday. Tyler Schmidt, 42, died from a gunshot wound and “multiple sharp force injuries,” while his wife, 42-year-old Sarah Schmidt, died from multiple sharp force injuries, the Iowa Department of Public Safety said in a news release. Their 6-year-old daughter, Lula Schmidt, died from a gunshot wound and strangulation, officials said. All three family members’ deaths have been ruled homicides.     A former Baltimore, Maryland gang member who tags areas of the city as “no shoot” zones with spray paint was shot in one of them on Wednesday. Tyree Moorehead was shot multiple times by an assailant on the city’s east side on North Rose Street. The area was the scene of a fatal mass shooting in May. WJZ described the scene: Officers responded around 1:30 p.m. to the 700 block of North Rose Street near a Save A Lot grocery store. There, they found two men, 25 and 27, and a 27-year-old woman shot. The victims were transported to an area hospital where the 25-year-old man died. At the scene, officers learned of the fourth victim, a 40-year-old victim at an area hospital. The remaining three victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Moorehead uses spray paint to designate such areas as no shoot zones, and has done so for years. (AP) — The mother and father of a 6-year-old eastern Indiana boy who fatally shot his 5-year-old sister in their home were each charged Tuesday with four counts of neglect, a prosecutor said. If convicted of the most serious charge — level one felony neglect of a dependent resulting in death — Jacob Grayson, 28, and his 27-year-old wife, Kimberly Grayson, could each face 20–40 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000.     A 20-year-old thug shot a McDonald's worker in the face after they got into an argument over his mother's cold fries.  The 23-year-old worker, who has not been named by police, is now clinging to life at Brookdale Hospital after being shot around 7pm on Monday.  The shooter's mother reportedly began hassling the employee over her cold fries while on FaceTime with her son, a source told the New York Post.  Shortly after, the son stormed into the Fulton Street McDonald's and began fighting with the employee.  The source told the NYP the dispute was taken 'outside,' where the thug pulled out a gun and shot the 23-year-old in the head.  Thick streams of bright red blood was seen pouring down the sidewalk as the employee laid unconscious on his back.  A man cradled the young worker's head as witnesses waited for authorities. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has noted that Cope is a “lawfully armed member of our community” and that he “prevented a violent crime and ensured their own safety, while being confronted with multiple armed suspects.” Marnie Tapia told ABC7 that Cope and his team had been warned ahead of time by the Sheriff's Department concerning crimes of this sort in the area: "Just be on your toes ...     DALLAS (AP) — A man who evaded arrest for more than 12 years after being accused of fatally shooting his two teenage daughters in a taxi parked near a Dallas-area hotel was going on trial this week. Jury selection was set to begin Monday in the capital murder trial of Yaser Said, 65. Said, who is accused of killing 18-year-old Amina Said and 17-year-old Sarah Said on New Year’s Day in 2008, faces an automatic life sentence if convicted. Testimony was scheduled to start Tuesday. The sisters were shot multiple times in the Dallas suburb of Irving. Sarah Said managed to call 911 using a cellphone, telling the operator that her father shot her and that she was dying.     PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia police are searching for a 45-year-old man wanted in connection to the shooting of a 10-month-old baby girl in the city’s Kensington neighborhood over the weekend. Police say a verbal and physical altercation broke out at a home on the 2000 block of East Ontario Street Sunday morning after a family was celebrating a wedding. The suspect police are searching for has been identified as 45-year-old Santos Diaz.     A Texas man was killed by a bullet from his own gun on Saturday when he shot a woman in the neck, only for the round to exit and hit him in the leg. Byron Redmon, 26, is believed to have shot the unidentified woman in an apartment close to the 2200 block of Medical District in Dallas, Texas.  Cops responded to a report about the shooting to find the apartment empty, but found a distinct trail of blood leading into the street. Minutes later, they received a call from the nearby Parkland Memorial hospital saying both Redmon and the woman had been found in a car with severe gunshot wounds.  Redmon was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officers have not yet released the identity or condition of the female gunshot victim.     OAKLAND — A 58-year-old man was in critical condition after he was shot inside his West Oakland home Sunday night, authorities said. The shooting happened about 10:42 p.m.  Sunday in the 900 block of 14th Street. Authorities said the man got into a dispute with a person he may have known and was shot in the chest.  What the dispute was about has not been determined. The shooter fled before police got to the home. Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.     A man was on a Red Line train near 63rd Street just after 3 a.m. when a group of seven approached him, and one member of the group — the 15-year-old male — pulled out a gun in an apparent attempt to rob the man, WBBM-TV reported in a separate story, citing Chicago police chief of detectives Brendan Deenihan. Deenihan told the station the man pulled out a knife and stabbed the gun-wielding 15-year-old male, who fled the scene with everyone else and later died at a hospital. In addition, six people with weapons attacked and tried to rob a train passenger early in the morning of July 22, but the victim pulled a knife and fought back.     Police are investigating after a man was shot and injured by bullets fired from a passing car on Long Island. The incident took place in North Amityville around 8 p.m., Sunday, July 31. According to Suffolk County Police, a 20-year-old North Amityville man was standing in front of a home on Emerald Lane South when he was struck by two bullets fired from a passing motor vehicle. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The two individuals injured in a double shooting in Maryland are now facing charges that stem from illicit drugs and a weapon detectives found in their vehicle, authorities announced. Baltimore County detectives have filed criminal charges against two people who were shot at approximately 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26 near the intersection of Compass Road and Martin Boulevard in Essex. A 43-year-old man and 42-year-old woman who were shot during the incident are now being charged with Controlled Dangerous Substances: possession with intent to distribute and firearm-related charges, according to officials. The pair - whose names have not been released - are still being treated at Maryland hospitals for injuries sustained in the shooting. Investigators noted that based on cellphone footage provided to detectives, at least one automatic weapon was used in the crime, which is believed to be a targeted shooting.     Police are investigating a homicide that occurred at an apartment building on Long Island. Officers in Mineola responded to a wellness check around 11:15 a.m. Saturday, July 30 at 140 Old Country Road.  Upon arrival, they discovered a 39-year-old woman with apparent gunshot wounds, Nassau County Police said.  She was pronounced dead by a Nassau County Police Medic. The woman's identity has not yet been released. The investigation is ongoing.     PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A 14-year-old boy was shot once in Philadelphia’s Holmesburg neighborhood on Saturday evening, police say. The shooting happened on the 4200 block of Vista Street around 7 p.m. Police say the boy had been shot once in the left leg. He was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital by medical services where he was placed in stable condition. No arrests were made and no weapons were recovered at this point.     SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. (AP) — A gunman fatally shot two people at a nail salon in West Virginia before officers fired at the shooter, killing him, police said. Summersville officers responded to an active shooter Thursday evening at Jo’s Nails & Spa, police said in a Facebook post Friday. Two officers shot the gunman, who was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. According to news outlets, Summersville Police identified the alleged shooter as 52-year-old Patrick Wayne Cater and the two victims as 45-year-old Khuyen Van Le and 40-year-old Phi Anh Le, married coworkers there. Police Chief John Nowak told news outlets that Cater had been working there earlier, left, and came back with a semiautomatic pistol. West Virginia State Police are investigating. There also were “no obvious reasons for why he shot three siblings and took his own life,” troopers spokesperson Tim DeSpain said. “The only person — people — that know what really happened in that moment are deceased,” he said. Investigators were confident that this was not an accident and confident that it was not planned, he said. Troopers on Wednesday said an investigation revealed that a 15-year-old boy the prior afternoon shot three siblings and then fatally shot himself in a home near Fairbanks. Detectives say they found at least 11 spent shell casings at the scene on the 200 block of East Armstrong Street on Wednesday night. They believe there was a shootout between two people or groups.     A teenager is recovering after being shot in the hand in Hyattsville, authorities say. An unidentified suspect allegedly shot the teen around 9 p.m., Wednesday, July 27 in the 2900 block of Belcrest Center Drive, according to Hyattsville police. The teen victim was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police continue. The suspect was described by investigators as being a man around 6 feet tall, who was wearing a grey hoodie, black pants, and black and white sneakers. Police say the suspect may have driven away from the scene in an older-model silver sedan that was parked at the Sunoco on the corner of East-West Highway and Belcrest Road.     A 29-year-old Hudson Valley man was found shot to death after police responded to a Shotspotter activation. The incident took place in Orange County in the city of Newburgh around 11:50 p.m., Wednesday, July 27 in the area of Lake Drive. When officers responded to the activation, they found a Newburgh resident who had been shot in the upper chest and bicep, said the City of Newburgh Police. Officers immediately performed CPR and attempted to render lifesaving aid, police said. The victim was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was ultimately pronounced dead, police said. Police are looking for any witnesses who may been in the area at the time of this incident.     A 22-year-old North Jersey native was killed by a man with an AR-15 who injured a second victim before fatally turning the gun on himself, authorities said. Mikal Dixon, 27, broke into a Burlington, VT home, where he shot and killed 22-year-old Roxbury High School graduate Kayla Noonan around 2:20 a.m. Monday, July 25, Acting Police Chief Jon Murad said. He also shot the surviving 22-year-old female victim twice, and she remains hospitalized in critical condition, Murad said. Dixon, who knew both of his victims, tried breaking down a door at the apartment but couldn't get in, so he broke in through a window instead, the chief said. The nature of the relationship between the three was not immediately clear. That's when he shot and killed Noonan with a short-barreled AR-15 rifle, then shot the surviving victim, who was able to call 9-1-1, Murad said. Condolences poured in for Noonan.

    A mother and father in Indiana have been arrested and charged after their 6-year-old son fatally shot his 5-year-old sister inside a home that police said was smeared with feces and trash. The girl died on Tuesday afternoon from a gunshot wound to the head, the Muncie Police Department said. Police allege the 6-year-old accidentally shot his sister after taking a loaded gun from a safe while his mom was napping.
