Recipients of Supplemental Security Income are slated to receive their monthly $841 payment for November in just six days. Recipients did not receive a check this month due to a scheduling quirk — Oct. 1 falling on a weekend — that gave them two paychecks in September. SSI payments are issued by the Social Security Administration on the first of each month, but when that day falls on a holiday or weekend, payments are issued on the last weekday before the first of the next month, according to the SSA. MACE SUPPORTS MCCARTHY STRATEGY TO CRACK DOWN ON GOVERNMENT SPENDING The scheduling discrepancy happens multiple times a year, with it occurring for the January, May, and October payments this year. Social Security payments are expected to increase next year to stay on pace with inflation, with some analysts predicting the cost-of-living adjustment for Social Security in 2023 may be 10.5% or more, which would move recipients of regular Social Security payments into higher tax brackets. However, Supplemental Security Income payments will increase by 8.7% and...

The rebate will be worth up to $250 for individual filers, while joint filers will be given up to $500. A prerequisite to receiving these rebates is a tax liability that filers received for their 2021 taxes, according to the Virginia Department of Taxation. MICHIGAN'S LATEST TAX INCENTIVE, $526M, HARSHLY CRITICIZED "As Virginians face high inflation and prices coming from policies set in Washington, these one-time tax rebates will help families lower the cost of living," Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin said. "Past administrations have overtaxed Virginians, and by returning taxpayer money to Virginia's taxpayers, we are ensuring that hardworking Virginians get to keep more of their paycheck during these difficult economic times." The commission defines a tax liability as the amount of money owed in taxes minus any tax credits or deductions. A Los Angeles mansion frequented by Marilyn Monroe and Humphrey Bogart was bought by a real estate developer working for BLM founder Patrisse Cullors and her partner for $3.1 million, and then purchased by BLM's foundation just six days later for $5.8 million in cash, it has emerged. The rapid price inflation 'raises serious questions,' ethics experts said. The purchase of the 6,500 square-foot, six-bedroom property in Studio City was first revealed on Monday by New York Magazine, amid growing questions about BLM's finances. The organization in February 2021 said it had taken in more than $90 million in 2020 and still had $60 million on hand, but it remains unclear how that money is being managed or even where it is. Cullors, the co-founder of the organization, resigned in May 2021 as director of the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (BLMGNF), amid scrutiny of her property empire. She has written best-selling books, and has a contract with Warner Brothers to produce content. On Wednesday, Cullors, 38, angrily hit back at the questions over cash purchase of the Studio City...

On June 3, 2022, I enter my seventh decade. It’s a Friday. Perfect for a major weekend celebration, you might think, a summer party with my three almost grown-up children and my husband and friends and family. Actually, I’d rather do time in jail. The thought of turning 60 sends a cold chill through women of my generation. Time was, we’d all start to gather dust as soon as we hit the big five-oh, but nowadays that’s the occasion to get out the cake and prosecco. Sixty, meanwhile? We look at each other and shudder. Yes, we have embraced some rites of passage — and not just the fun ones. Cropping one’s hair into a sensible, manageable, sandy-blonde bob is a favourite. Hiding a crepey neck under a polo-neck and adopting a fondness for those knitted capes that hide everything is another. Robert Schornak, 39, of Michigan was sentenced on Friday by Chief Judge Beryl Howell of the US District Court for the District of Columbia, who praised him for speaking to the select committee. Schornak had pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge of entering and remaining in a restricted building, and prosecutors were seeking a prison term of six months, citing a number of aggravating factors. Prosecutors noted in court filings that Schornak admitted to stealing a US flag from the Capitol during the riot, and that before traveling to DC he had texted his brother: 'We're obviously going next week, we can't stay home n watch our republic be stolen. AS the last batch of child tax credit payments for the year hits bank accounts in the middle of the month – some families will get up to $1,800 for each kid. MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Nearly 600,000 admissions have been tallied at the 2021 Minnesota State Fair, as a combination of rainy weather and ongoing concerns over the COVID-19 Delta variant have put a seeming damper on enthusiasm despite a year off from the Great Minnesota Get-Together. Through Tuesday, only two days tallied up attendance figures in the six figures, compared to five days in 2019 and all six days in 2018. As of now, the busiest day at the 2021 State Fair was Sunday, with close to 150,000 admissions, followed by Saturday, which saw about 130,000 despite another round of severe storms. At this time in 2019, there had been about 925,000 admissions at the State Fair — three of those days actually set new single-day records. In 2018, that figure was at 882,000. Neither masks nor vaccines are required to go to the Minnesota State Fair, and officials did not institute an attendance limit. However, they do encourage Minnesotans to visit at less busy times, avoid weekends, and practice social distancing. Masks are especially encouraged indoors and in crowded areas,...

A vast, informal effort to evacuate thousands of vulnerable people has sprung up in Afghanistan as U.S. military veterans, diplomats and politicians scramble to beat President Biden's August 31 deadline. The controversial private military contractor Erik Prince is charging evacuees $6,500 to get them safely into the airport and on to flights while former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was part of an effort to charter planes to rescue women. It is all part of an operation to evacuate foreigners and help thousands of Afghans who worked for the U.S. military, foreign governments or charities that fear death at the hands of the Taliban. 'It's just an estimate, but we have probably facilitated 1500 people out of the country,' said Marine Lt. Col. Russell Worth Parker, of Task Force Dunkirk, a hastily assembled group of special operations and CIA veterans. The Department of Homeland Security sent out a bulletin last week warning that there could be an increase of violence by domestic extremists due to a series of conspiracies about former President Donald Trump. According to CNN.com, rhetoric online was strikingly similar to that before Jan. 6. DHS Intelligence chief John Cohen explained many comments were about the "system" being "broken, and encouraging people to "take action into their own hands" or "bring out the gallows." "Concern from a law enforcement perspective is at a certain point in time, all of the conspiracy theories that point to a change occurring through process are going to sort of wear out. And the question is going to be, are people going to try to resort to violence, in or in furtherance of, that false narrative?" Cohen told CNN at the time. The bulletin also warned that reopening schools and other government buildings as well as religiously significant dates "could also provide increased targets of opportunity for violence." It took more than nine months for California to record 1 million confirmed cases of COVID-19. It has taken less than six weeks to see 1 million more. Once regarded as a model for stopping the spread of COVID-19, California on Wednesday passed 2 million recorded cases of the deadly illness, reaching the milestone as Christmas approaches in the midst of the darkest and most dangerous days of the pandemic. Hundreds of people are dying from the virus in California each day. A crush of new patients is threatening to overwhelm hospitals. Even as vaccinations begin rolling out more widely and local health officials cling to signs in testing data that this devastating surge of the virus may be cresting, they are bracing for more deaths and fear that Christmas and New Year’s, like Thanksgiving before them, will fuel another devastating surge of cases as people unwittingly spread the virus among their friends and family members. “Our hospitals are at the brink — just about to be pushed over,” said Dr. Ahmad Kamal, director of health care preparedness for Santa...
