THE Battle of the GOATS came down to a failed two-point conversion. Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers faced off once more on Sunday, with the latter's Green Bay Packers coming out on top with a 14-12 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 3Brady still leads Rodgers in head-to-heads 4-2Credit: Reuters 3Rodgers passed for 255 yards, two touchdowns, and one interceptionCredit: Alamy Key to Green Bay's victory was a failed two-point conversion in the game's dying seconds by Brady's Buccaneers. Following an 89-yard touchdown drive, the Buccaneers were penalized for a delay of game with just fourteen seconds to go. Pushed back five yards for their second attempt, the Buccaneers failed to convert thanks to a tipped pass by Packers linebacker De'Vondre Campbell. But according to Rodgers, part of their success on that play was down to something he spotted on the Jumbotron. The White House press secretary on Monday said it was important to have a conversation about the Atlanta Braves' name, hours after President Joe Biden celebrated their 2021 World Series win with the team. It comes at a time when several professional sports teams have jettisoned Native American terms as nicknames or titles - such as the Cleveland Indians, now the Guardians, and the Washington Redskins, now known as the Commanders. In contrast, Braves' fans continue to do their 'Tomahawk Chop' celebration.  'We believe that it's important to have this conversation,' said Karine Jean-Pierre when she was asked about the name during her daily briefing. 'And Native American and indigenous voices, they should be at the centre of this conversation. That is something that the president believes, is something that this administration believes and he has consistently emphasised that all people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.' The Braves team was in the East Room earlier in the day, when Biden welcomed the World Series winning players to the White House.
Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving's decision to go unvaccinated likely cost him in the range of $100 million, he told reporters at Monday's media day. The veteran point guard was rumored to be heading towards free agency in June after struggling to finalize a long-term extension in Brooklyn following the Nets' first-round playoff loss to the Boston Celtics. But instead of opting out of the final year an $36 million of his contract, Irving picked up his player option after finding the market for his services had deteriorated. 'I gave up four years, $100-something mil deciding to be unvaccinated,' he told reporters. 'That was the decision. It was contract [and] get vaccinated or be unvaccinated and there's a level of uncertainty of your future.' "I didn't appreciate how me being unvaccinated came to be a stigma within my career that I don't want to play, or that I'm willing to give up everything to be a voice for the voiceless."- Kyrie Irving pic.twitter.com/yE6E0GU03N— Nets Videos (@SNYNets) September 26, 2022 Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving's decision to go unvaccinated likely cost...
Getty Ime Udoka, Celtics The first text from a former Celtic came in around midnight Wednesday. “What the hell is this?” As more information regarding Ime Udoka was learned — bits and pieces, but still not enough to allow a full grasp of the matter — the frequency of calls and texts increased. The Celtics have every legal and moral reason to keep secret the details behind the dramatic step of suspending their coach for a full NBA season. But you’d have to believe that, assuming their decision is as justified as some sources are indicating, there will be a sense of relief in their offices when the story finally surfaces from outside entities. Until then, the mystery is what’s keeping this in the news and in private discussions that generally begin with something along the lines of the aforementioned text. “This story’s got everything — fame, sports, sex, everything. People aren’t going to stop talking about this until they find out what went on,” said a Hall of Fame Celtic who called Friday night. “Hell, I want...
FOR many loyal fans, the reality star Stephen Bear might be a ''self-made billionaire'' who regularly shows off his lavish lifestyle on social media. But now the 32-year-old, who was recently condemned by ad authorities for faking a $100,000 Twitter competition, has taken the internet by storm for another reason - his home decor. 6Stephen shared a video of his girlfriend online - but it's not the perfect relationship that people are talking aboutCredit: TikTok/@8earzy 6Many were convinced the bloke has a ''Live, Laugh, Love'' sign somewhere in his houseCredit: TikTok/@8earzy Giving a little glimpse in his ''picture-perfect'' life and relationship, the winner of the Big Brother 2016 series uploaded a clip of her 22-year-old girlfriend, Jessica Smith. DEAR MISS MANNERS: My wife has become friendly with my friend’s fiancee over the past two years or so, but when she asked my wife to be in her wedding party, the request came as a bit of a surprise. My wife said yes, and has been regretting it ever since. We knew that the wedding was going to involve travel, but the list of responsibilities keeps expanding. It now includes multiple wedding dress fittings, a bridesmaid’s dress fitting, a bridal shower and a New York City bachelorette weekend — not to mention the wedding itself, also in New York. So she’s paying for two $700+ plane tickets, plus all the other gifts, dresses, travel expenses, etc. Behind all this are dozens of planning emails that require delicate opinions and compromises, adding further stress to my wife’s normal day-to-day work responsibilities and social schedule. Having gone through my own “this is way too much” groomsman experience, which required way more time and money than I expected, we kept things simple for our own wedding. We did not have a wedding...

SAN FRANCISCO — If Draymond Green accomplishes what he sets out to do this season, the 32-year-old knows the money will follow. But despite reportedly expressing interest in receiving a max contract when his current deal expires, Green doesn’t believe he and the Warriors will reach an agreement before the season begins next month. With doubts on what the future might hold, Green said Sunday he’s going all in on this season and betting on himself. “I’m just focused on this season and being as great as I can be and as I know I’m capable of being and winning another championship and reaching my individual goals that I have as well,” Green said at Warriors’ media day. “That’s my main focus.” Green is entering the final year of his current contract, though he has a player option, worth $27.6 million for the 2023-24 campaign. That means this could potentially be his last season with the Warriors. That reality is the last thing the Warriors’ brass and fans would like to think about especially after Green...
“Can I get an, ‘Amen?’ " Christian Wilkins was preaching late Sunday afternoon, brothers and sisters, but before he talked about this nastiest Miami Dolphins win, before he addressed the grittiest little goal-line stand or the glory of this 3-0 start, he asked something himself. “Come on, can I get an, ‘Amen!’” the Dolphins defensive tackle asked again. “Amen!” the assembled media said. “Thank you,” Wilkins said. Sunday’s 21-19 win over Buffalo, where the Dolphins practiced what they preached, probably deserves something more, too. Hallelujah? Lord have mercy? For the first time in years — or decades depending how you frame — the Dolphins won the kind of game in the kind of scheduling stretch that says they belong in the conversation of contenders. That’s it. That’s the hallelujah moment. They’ve now beaten New England, Baltimore and top-of-the-heap Buffalo in their first three games, and that’s as good a line-up as any team has put down thus far. They weren’t electric Sunday. They were just good enough against their most important measuring stick right now. Buffalo had drives longer than...

NBC’s Chuck Todd was mystified that Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) predicted Republicans will impeach President Joe Biden for some unexplained reason — should they capture a majority in the House of Representatives. Mace spoke to Todd on Sunday for Meet The Press, where part of the interview revolved around House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) “Commitment to America” — the light-on-specifics agenda that Congressional Republicans plan to take up if they win the midterm elections. The announcement declared “accountable” government as one of its primary items, though Todd described the plan as “kind of vague” — asking Mace, “Do you expect an impeachment vote against President Biden if Republicans take over the House?” “I believe there’s a lot of pressure on Republicans to have that vote,” Mace said. “To put that legislation forward and to have that vote. I think that is something that some folks are considering.” Todd interjected, exclaiming “Wow!” Yet instead of asking on what grounds would Republicans pursue impeachment, Todd let Mace deliver an opaque answer about fraud, abuse of Covid-19 funding, and other matters of...

Years ago, a wise person once said: “Baseball is the greatest game of all in spite of the people who run it.” This has never been truer than this weekend when, despite Rob Manfred’s Apple streaming MLB greed grab that deprived most of the country from TV viewership Friday night, Aaron Judge and Albert Pujols calmly went about their business of cleansing baseball’s soul from the steroids plague which previous commissioner Bud Selig took too long to get a handle on. Suddenly, and somewhat unexpectedly, baseball has found itself with a season of celebration of not one but two “clean” sluggers closing in on home run milestones — Judge breaking Roger Maris’ 61-year-old American League record of 61 homers and Pujols becoming only the fourth player in history with 700 career homers. And wouldn’t you know, Pujols hit his two homers Friday night to join the exclusive club in the Cardinals’ game that was also exclusively Apple-streamed — so hardly anyone witnessed it unless you were in the ballpark. Shame on baseball. While Pujols’ feat will be his last hurrah as he...

About 35 years ago, if a shortstop drove in 99 runs and clocked 25 homers, they’d be tried as a witch. That’s exactly what Francisco Lindor has done this season though, and with 11 games to spare, the switch-hitting straw that stirs the Mets’ drink will finish the season with even prettier numbers. In 1987, the average MLB shortstop slashed .258/.315/.365 (.680 OPS) with an 80 wRC+, meaning as a collective, shortstops were 20% worse than the league’s average hitter. Entering Friday’s series opener in Oakland, Lindor is flexing a .271/.344/.454 slash line (.798 OPS) and 130 wRC+. With four more RBI, he will break Carlos Guillen’s single-season record for runs driven in by a switch-hitting shortstop. The evolution of the modern, slugging shortstop is one of many changes that have swept through the games in recent years, and Lindor is perhaps the most prime example of how a guy who hits like a corner outfielder but fields like a middle infielder is the most valuable type of player a team can have. His partner in the cleanup spot, meanwhile,...

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was stunned when a reporter read comments from Trump-backed congressional candidate John Gibbs denigrating women’s intelligence. Gibbs, an election denier and former Trump administration official whom former President Donald Trump endorsed in November, has a history of inflammatory comments that include those he made as a student and founder of something he called the Society for the Critique of Feminism. On Thursday afternoon, Speaker Pelosi held her weekly press conference, at which a reporter asked Pelosi to comment on those remarks, some of which Pelosi was hearing for the first time The reporter, Punchbowl’s Jake Sherman, took pains to clarify he did not share Gibbs’s views: JAKE SHERMAN: Madam Speaker? Despite continued allegations of fraud and obstruction of justice claims against Donald Trump, somehow there are still only two people continuing to call the former president out—and neither one is a man. According to host Molly Jong-Fast in her last episode appearing on political podcast The New Abnormal, those people are New York state Attorney General Letitia “Tish” James and the district attorney of Fulton County, Georgia, Fani Willis. “They’re the only people who are doing this because everyone else is too much of a fucking coward,” Jong-Fast tells co-host Andy Levy. “It’s just interesting to me. We got so many people in Trumpworld where Trump has done stuff and they’ve been like, ‘Well, let’s let it ride. He’s rich, he’s white. He has an implanted wig. People love him. We don’t want to upset people.’ “The two people who are holding him accountable are Black women. I just think it’s worth thinking about.” This week, James announced that the New York state attorney general’s office is suing Trump, three of his adult children, and their family real estate company...
Sometimes a Donald Trump story comes along that is so dumb, every late-night comedy host can’t help but make way too many jokes about it. This Thursday was one of those nights. After Trump told Fox News’ Sean Hannity this week that, as president, he had the power to declassify documents just by “thinking about it,” the late-night pile-on came fast and furious. First out of the gate was The Daily Show host Trevor Noah, who expressed deep skepticism that Trump could “declassify documents with his brain” when he couldn’t even “read documents with his brain.” He predicted that Trump would “plead Jedi” at the eventual trial and joked that it would “be the first time in his life that Trump has thought something and not said it out loud.” Seth Meyers used his “A Closer Look” segment to argue that Trump’s claim is a “shaky defense” because it requires you to believe that he’s capable of “thinking” at all. “I mean, even if it was true that the law said you could declassify something just by thinking about...

The name on everybody’s lips is currently “Gen Z.” Perhaps the most over-defined, over-marketed, and over-exposed generation in human history, everyone wants a piece of us (word to Britney). When social media supplanted TV as the primary form of youth media, it rapidly eroded lines between different media-consuming communities. Now, wherever we go, the rest of the world follows—from our exodus from Facebook to Instagram as tweens, our affair with Snapchat as teens, and our dominance of TikTok as young adults. But the “we” in question is something that’s tricky to define. Many of the trends and stock phrases attributed to Gen Z are recycled from other cultures’ creations and phenomenons, and AAVE in particular. Gen Z absorbs them all, then replicates them ad nauseam across the web; millennials ape it, and corporations follow in their lead. Thus is the circle of a digitally led life. The corporations in question include those that drive the entertainment industry, of course. This year has seen many forms of entertainment attempt to be Gen Z’s definitive chronicler (while reaping in the bucks for...

(CNN)Amid the 200-plus page lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James against Donald Trump this week, one allegation comes bursting through: The former president is simply not as rich as he has long said he is.Consider: * Trump estimated that his triplex unit in Trump Tower was more than 30,000 square feet and was worth $327 million at one point. The apartment, according to James' suit, was 11,000 square feet. The View host Whoopi Goldberg cracked up White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who played along with a bit mocking President Donald Trump‘s claim he can declassify a document by “thinking about it.” On Thursday’s edition of ABC’s The View, Goldberg opened the show by mocking a moment from Trump’s Hannity interview in which he told Hannity he can declassify a document “by thinking about it.” “I’m thinking him into jail!” Goldberg cracked. Former President Donald Trump revealed on Wednesday he had thought New York Attorney General Letitia James would settle her case against him, which he said he had problems with because he is not guilty. The remarks came as the ex-president railed against James' $250 million lawsuit, claiming Trump lied about his property values.  Speaking with Sean Hannity from his home in Mar-a-Lago on Wednesday, Trump doubled down on his assertion that his property values are high, pointing to the decadence of Mar-a-Lago. That is when he revealed: 'I actually never thought that she would bring a case, and she brought it. And the reason I thought was because she didn't have a case.  'I was of the impression that she wanted to settle,' he claimed. 'But I had a problem because how do you pay something even if it's a small amount of money if you're not guilty.' The former president went on to refer to the lawsuit as 'just a continuation of a witch hunt that began when I came down the escalator of Trump Tower,' and suggested that James had been after him since she first...

Brad Pitt is on a side hustle roll this week: just days after debuting his artwork in public for the first time at a museum in Finland, the superstar actor revealed he’s also launching a genderless skincare line as part of a project with his partners at Château Beaucastel, the very winery he and ex-wife Angelina Jolie have been bitterly fighting over in court. Interesting! In an interview with British Vogue published Wednesday, Pitt, speaking at Château Miraval, explained that the line of products revolves around the properties of grape-based antioxidants and a natural phenol called resveratrol, which are intended to extend the lifespan of healthy skin cells. The skincare line, called Le Domaine, thus far offers four products, the priciest of which will set you back $385: The Serum, The Cream, The Fluid Cream and The Cleansing Emulsion. Though Pitt told Vogue he won’t be appearing in any official campaigns for the brand, it’s undeniable that his gorgeous mug is the perfect billboard for the product. “We wouldn’t have done it unless we felt there...
Getty Commentator Colin Cowherd on the red carpet for a 2022 party. The Detroit Lions have enjoyed a solid start to the 2022 season, and folks in the media are starting to take notice of what’s going on in the Motor City. While the team hasn’t accomplished anything quite yet, there has been a definite buzz about the way the team has started the season. The Lions are suddenly looking like one of the best offenses in the league, and while their defense needs to make some adjustments, they’ve played well, too. So as a result of this, there’s been a little bit of love early on in terms of the national media. Some of that was shared by Fox Sports commentator Colin Cowherd. Speaking on his show The Herd, Cowherd talked about Detroit, and as he said, while it might be seen as a bit crazy to go all-in on the team, that’s exactly what he is doing. Guys, Im just the messenger. I promise I didnt pay anybody to say anything. ????????‍♂️ #OnePride pic.twitter.com/JX6EX785ev — Malcolm...
Rating: With its frosted glass back, shiny aluminium band, Magsafe charging and triple-lens rear camera, Apple's £1,099 iPhone 14 Pro appears almost identical to its predecessor, the iPhone 13 Pro, when you first take it out of the box. It's only when you switch it on that you realise Apple has made some significant changes to its latest model - most notably a new notification bar at the top of the display, called Dynamic Island, which replaces the hated 'notch' on previous models. The pill-shaped bar houses several key sensors, including the selfie camera, proximity sensor and depth detector, which all support the Face ID unlocking feature. Unlike the notch, however, Dynamic Island is not a static black obstruction on the screen, but an interactive part of the display, providing quick access to alerts, notifications and background activities without interrupting the app you are using. While it may seem like a gimmick, I've found this new feature quickly becomes a natural part of how you use the phone, making it much easier to multitask on the device. For example, you...
Three men are facing charges after allegedly leading police on a highway chase in a stolen vehicle through the region, authorities said. New York State Police troopers in Northern Westchester attempted to stop the vehicle, which had been reported stolen, at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, as it drove on I-684 in the town of Bedford. The driver refused to stop, leading troopers on a 13-mile pursuit that finally ended at the I-84 interchange in the village of Brewster in Putnam County, police said. That's where troopers deployed a spike strip, disabling the vehicle. All three suspects then fled on foot.  They were located and arrested a short time later with the help of a Putnam County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit. Police identified the three Connecticut men, who are all from Waterbury, as Josiah Eleby, age 19; Ervin Barr, age 21; and Shadeed Turner, age 20. Eleby, who troopers said was in illegal possession of a 9mm Glock 43 handgun, was charged with multiple crimes, including criminal possession of a firearm and obstruction of governmental administration, both felonies....
The royal photographer who captured the portrait of the joyous Queen that was released on the eve of her funeral has revealed Her Majesty's witty remark when he asked her to smile - and said he could instantly tell that the image was 'something special'. Ranald Mackechnie photographed the late monarch at her Windsor Castle home in May ahead of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Speaking to Lorraine today, he recalled how the Queen cheekily said: 'Well, you can't make me,' when he asked her to smile. She giggled when he replied with 'Well, you can try.' The unseen image was released ahead of Her Majesty's funeral at Westminster Abbey on Monday, and showed the beaming Queen dressed in a light blue dress, with her hair neatly curled. She wore her favourite three-strand pearl necklace, pearl earrings and her aquamarine and diamond clip brooches, which were an 18th birthday present from her father George VI.

Getty Paulo Costa walks out after defeating Luke Rockhold. UFC superstar Paulo Costa fired shots at Khamzat Chimaev and issued a daring challenge for him. Costa is coming off an impressive victory over former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold in the co-main event of UFC 278 last month. He snapped his two-fight skid to get back to winning ways as he looked to get closer to a title shot. After the win, Costa resumed training at UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada. Chimaev was scheduled to headline UFC 279 opposite fan favorite Nate Diaz on Sep. 10. However, he missed weight by a massive seven and a half pounds and had to get pulled out of the main event spot for an updated catchweight contest with Kevin Holland. ‘Borz’ scored another dominant first-round finish over Holland without absorbing a single significant strike. During the build-up to his fight, Chimaev crossed paths with Costa, who was working on his grappling chops with Jake Shields, at the PI in Vegas. The two nearly came to blows in a heated altercation...

An ancient burial cave from the 13th century B.C. was discovered on a beach in Israel last week, Israeli officials said Sunday. Archaeologists used a ladder to descend into the man-made square cave after a mechanical digger working at the Palmahim national park made the discovery Tuesday. The room was filled with dozens of pottery pieces and bronze artifacts, according to video footage by the Israel Antiquities Authority. The Green Bay Packers created quite a stir on social media with fans pointing out one of their touchdown celebrations appeared to be a reference to Aaron Rodgers' public admission to using ayahuasca. The team's star quarterback made waves across the world earlier in the summer when he credited his back-to-back MVP awards to the effects of the Amazonian psychedelic drug, which he first used on a trip to Peru in 2020. Earlier this month he admitted to dabbling in ayahuasca again this year and after finding Allen Lazard in their Week 2 game with the Chicago Bears, the Packers endzone celebration seemed to show players miming an ayahuasca ritual. Lazard took the football and pretended to pour something from it and hand it to his teammates with those stars then collapsing to the ground. One social media user wrote: 'Pretty sure this was an Ayahuasca celebration,' while another added: 'Packers do an Aaron Rodgers-inspired ayahuasca ceremony TD celebration.'
