The New England Patriots will host the Baltimore Ravens for Week 3 of the 2022 NFL season on Sunday. This will be the Patriots home opener, and it’s expected to be a competitive game with a lot of action. The Pats are undergoing roster construction with a fairly new team. In the past few years, they’ve lost veteran stars such as Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman. The team isn’t overall as strong as they have been throughout the 2000s, so they’ve been sort of unpredictable as the season goes on. Their record is 1-1, with a tough (but expected) 20-7 Week 1 loss against the Miami Dolphins and a Week 2 17-14 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Ravens, who are widely favored to win the matchup, had a tough Week 2 against the Dolphins. Both teams played down to the last second and Miami pulled a win after Baltimore blew a...

Tom Brady broke not one, but two, tablets in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' fiery 20-10 win over NFC South division rival, New Orleans.  Brady was seen hurling a tablet in fury during last Sunday's game with his Tampa Bay team struggling for offensive continuity.  According to ESPN NFL insider, Adam Schefter, more than one tablet met its end at Brady's hand.  In fact, three tablets were broken on the Bucs sideline -- two reportedly by Brady -- in a tension-filled NFC South matchup, with the road team 'left short of tablets.' It's now the second time Brady has broken a tablet(s) when playing the New Orleans Saints after throwing the Microsoft device during a 9-0 loss in December 2021.  'I'm trying to make sure I don't throw my arm out when I throw it,' Brady jokingly said on Monday during his weekly Let's Go podcast. 'But I was pretty p***ed yesterday.'  Brady and the Buccaneers, largely powered by their defense, were able to overcome the Saints RELATED ARTICLES Previous 1 Next NFL could have sold THREE...

Before a game at old Busch Stadium in September 1998, St. Louis Cardinals slugger Mark McGwire declined to speak at a news conference about his pursuit of Roger Maris’ home run record, stiffing hundreds of media members. Chicago Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa, who then was on McGwire’s heels in the great home run race, happily sat down with a dozen reporters in Pittsburgh the next day and answered question after question about his pursuit of Maris. Sosa told reporters McGwire should be pardoned for stiffing them, saying he was simply more comfortable dealing with the media than his nemesis. “I’m a little more Rico Suave,” Sosa said, referring to a 1990 song. Twenty-four years later, New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge didn’t have to worry about handling the media crush as he chased Maris American League record of 61 home runs. Judge normally doesn’t do pregame interviews, and a Yankees media relations staffer ended the slugger’s postgame session after 2 minutes, 15 seconds following Thursday’s homerless game against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. University of Georgia tight end Brock Bowers is bringing the heat to the Bulldogs with an incredible 75-yard touchdown.  Georgia Bulldogs tight end Brock Bowers proved to be unstoppable yet after running off for 75 yards untouched and scoring a touchdown with ease on the first play of the game against Kent State. Bowers immediately stood out since joining the team, earning SEC’s Freshman of the Year in 2021 after helping bring the team to a national championship win. Bowers’ success was no surprise. He was a four-star recruit and the third-ranked tight end in his class, so he was expected to be great right out of high school. He’s also been...
Donald Trump baffled his audience at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina Friday night, going off on a bizarre tangent to give his thoughts on the New York Jets' last NFL game. The 45th President took to the stage for a Save America rally ahead of the midterm elections, discussing all things immigration, crime, the 2020 election - and, strangely, the New York Jets' win over the Cleveland Browns last Sunday.  'The Jets game last week,... so there's like a minute and 37 seconds left, they're down by 13 points and they were having a tough game, and they don't even have the ball,' Trump began, with onlookers blankly awaiting the relevancy of New York's Week 2 win. 'I think the chances of them winning was one one-hundredth of one per cent, and nobody would take the bet. 'They got some kind of fumble, they threw a long pass it was caught, they got to seven... and then they got an onside kick, this took place over like about a minute and a quarter. 'They received... they got an onside kick,...
Pull up a chair and sit on the edge of it, folks. This one could be worth the wait — and, thanks to everyone from Cam Cameron to Steve Ross, it’s been quite a wait. The Miami Dolphins play the Buffalo Bills on Sunday in either the biggest game of the NFL weekend or the biggest game at Hard Rock Stadium since it was called Dolphin Stadium three name changes ago. Take your pick for how big this game is. And round up the kids while you’re deciding. It’s time this next generation knew. This is what Dolphins weekend once were always about, if you can remember back to yesteryear when Dan Marino was a player and not a consultant or the 1970s was an era and not a sit-com. Big games. Big rivals. Big hoo-hahs. Big consequences, too. The horse is admittedly ahead of the cart of consequence. It’s just Game 3 in, as linebacker Jerome Baker says, “a marathon of a season” — though the marathon is a sprint if you’ve watched the Dolphins run. But there’s been...
Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo called out New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole for his reaction to the strike zone. The Boston Red Sox might not appear in this year’s playoffs but that doesn’t mean late September games against the New York Yankees are meaningless. The two clubs are battling this weekend and in Friday’s 5-4 win by New York, Yankees starter Gerrit Cole wasn’t happy with the strike zone. In the top of the sixth, Cole believed he struck out Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo. He didn’t. On the very next pitch, Verdugo hit a three-run home run to tie the game. Cole struck out the next batter but continued to stew as he exited. If there’s one rule every baseball fan knows about umpires, it’s that you don’t argue balls and strikes with them. Home plate umpire Brian Knight is aware of this as well. For arguing with the call, Cole and Yankees manager Aaron Boone were ejected.Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo called Gerrit Cole out after the game for his whiningThe other half of this matchup...
Here’s a look at how the Miami Dolphins (2-0) and Buffalo Bills (2-0) match up in six key areas ahead of Sunday’s Week 3 game at Hard Rock Stadium (1 p.m., CBS): When the Dolphins run: Miami got its ground game going a little bit for 4.8 yards per carry in last Sunday’s 42-38 win over the Baltimore Ravens. It just didn’t splash more because there were limited opportunities playing from behind most of the afternoon — not to mention the Ravens ate up 11 minutes on one first-half drive they didn’t even score on. In Week 1, it was Chase Edmonds that got the bulk of the carries against New England. Against Baltimore, it was Raheem Mostert. Who is favored in the workload will depend on matchups coaches find advantageous. Right tackle Greg Little, who will be filling in for Austin Jackson (ankle), had a great block on Edmonds’ late 28-yard run that set Miami up for the winning score vs. the Ravens. Buffalo, however, to no one’s surprise, is the league’s top-ranked run defense through two weeks, and...
Green Bay police have apologized to Packers' star running back A.J. Dillon in the aftermath of an unsavory incident in which an officer grabbed him by the collar while he watched Manchester City's game against Bayern Munich in July. Dillon was among the crowd for the star-studded preseason tie at the Packers stadium, and said at the time that he was asked by the organization to keep the crowd entertained during a 30-minute rain delay. The 24-year-old went down into the end zone in preparation for a 'Lambeau Leap' - a move by which he jumps up into the crowd - but a tense moment was caught on camera when a police officer appeared to grab him by the collar. The Chicago White Sox called on Gavin Sheets to hit for Adam Engel with the bases loaded and two outs in the eight inning Friday against the Detroit Tigers. The Sox were down by two but were threatening against right-handed reliever José Cisnero. The Tigers countered, bringing in reliever Andrew Chafin to set up a potential lefty-against-lefty matchup. The Sox weren’t done making moves, as right-hander Romy Gonzalez stepped in for Sheets. The Tigers got the better of the chess match as Chafin struck out Gonzalez. The Sox rallied once but couldn’t do so again in a 5-3 loss in front of 33,257 at Guaranteed Rate Field. It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Sox, who are eight games behind the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central and 6½ back in the wild-card race with 11 games remaining. The Guardians, who on Thursday completed a three-game sweep of the Sox at Guaranteed Rate, remained hot Friday with a 6-3 victory against the Texas Rangers. Archbishop Spalding football’s players knew no one expected much of them after the Cavaliers graduated most of their starting roster, let alone that they’d surpass the glory of last year’s team. But five games and four wins into the season, no one could call what Spalding is doing a fluke. Call it magic. Even when Calvert Hall had momentum and a chance to take away Spalding’s lead Friday night, the Cavaliers didn’t buckle. Instead, they turned up the effort on both defense and offense and routed the defending Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference champions on their own turf, 42-7, in the Ravens RISE High School Football Showdown. Sophomore quarterback Malik Washington wonders what it’ll take for folks to stop doubting Spalding. “I love it,” he said. “We were supposed to lose to Gonzaga. We were supposed to have a close game with Broadneck. We were supposed to lose to Imhotep. We were supposed to lose this game. … I think everybody takes that personally. The Chicago White Sox needed a sweep to have a realistic chance at surpassing the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central. Instead, they were swept. And now a team that had World Series aspirations is on the verge of missing the postseason. The Sox entered Friday’s series opener against the Detroit Tigers trailing the Guardians by seven games — eight considering the Guardians own the tiebreaker — with 12 remaining after losing three straight at Guaranteed Rate Field. Tuesday had a playofflike buzz, with the Guardians winning 10-7 in 11 innings. That victory secured the important tiebreaker edge for the Guardians. The Sox never recovered, falling 8-2 in an uninspiring performance Wednesday and seeing a late rally come up short Thursday in a 4-2 loss. The players looked at the larger picture. “We’ve had our spurts of playing really good baseball, but it just wasn’t consistent enough,” right fielder Gavin Sheets said after Thursday’s loss. “It doesn’t come down to these three games for sure. I think we all would agree that we should have played better baseball, and...
The Yankees’ clubhouse was empty when it opened after Thursday night’s game. The music, which is always on after a win, was down low with the dance lights flashing just as they have after every win this season. There was no stink champagne or beer, nothing out of the ordinary after a win, even though the Bombers had just clinched their sixth straight trip to the playoffs. “Yeah, you never want to take it for granted. We’re in the dance and we got a chance now,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after the 5-4 win over the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium, which clinched the playoff spot. “Obviously we’re after the division crown but you’ve been around this game long enough and you appreciate every time you get the opportunity and we’ve punched that ticket. We got a lot more business to do here in the regular season that we want to get done, but you know, it starts a long time ago. Chicago Bears linebacker Roquan Smith and cornerback Jaylon Johnson are listed as questionable to play in Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans as they deal with injuries. Smith didn’t practice all week as he recovers from a hip injury suffered in the Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers. He was in uniform stretching with the team during the portion of Friday’s practice open to the media at Halas Hall, but the Bears listed him as “did not practice” based on not taking reps in team drills. Coach Matt Eberflus said listing Smith as questionable means he’s at a 51% chance of playing. “We’re excited he’s there at that point through the course of the week, and we’ll have to see if he’s going to be up or down,” Eberflus said. “He’s working toward the game, and we’re hopeful that he’ll be there.” The Bears already will be thin at linebacker because they will be without Matt Adams, who played 31% of the defensive snaps against the Packers but suffered a hamstring injury in practice this week. The Miami Dolphins face the possibility of being without both starting tackles against the Buffalo Bills’ fierce pass rush in Sunday’s 1 p.m. kickoff at Hard Rock Stadium between two AFC East unbeatens. Three-time Pro Bowl tackle Terron Armstead has his status in doubt going into Sunday’s critical matchup against the Buffalo Bills. “It is literally up in the air,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said on Friday ahead of team practice. “Only his body really knows, and I don’t think he knows yet if he’ll play.” This comes as Miami already is without right tackle Austin Jackson, on injured reserve with an ankle ailment, for at least three more weeks. But the team has been pleased with backup Greg Little’s work filling in at his spot. The Dolphins didn’t send Armstead, who played through a toe injury last Sunday in Baltimore, out to any of the team’s practices this week as he missed a third consecutive day on Friday. Last week, he participated on a limited basis on Thursday and Friday before playing against the Ravens, but McDaniel expressed confidence...

That’s already less work than he had in practice last week when he played against the Ravens, but McDaniel expressed confidence in his ability to play with little or no practice. “He’s a vet that we can count on if he’s able to play,” McDaniel said. “Traditionally, you don’t really mess with that stuff. Guys have to practice to be able to play. He’s proven otherwise. “We thought it’d be extra helpful if we didn’t hurt how he’s treating it by making it worse with practice, and we need to get guys prepared should he not be able.” If he...

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin made his firm stance on who plays at quarterback known as the Steelers open the season with a 1-2 record. Everyone watching the Steelers knew that 2022 would mark the beginning of a transitionary period as the team sought its future franchise quarterback. But how difficult this period has been, with the Steelers managing to win one game of three, isn’t how any fan would like to see the season unravel so early on. On their part, the Steelers anticipated their potential quarterback issues by bringing in several. At the beginning of the offseason, the Steelers rostered Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph and the late Dwayne Haskins. During the NFL Draft, the Steelers selected Kenny Pickett. Currently, the Steelers are a rarity in the league with three possible quarterbacks, and Steelers fans are anxious to see what Pitt star Kenny Pickett can accomplish in the NFL. Not so fast, according to Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. When asked if he would consider a quarterback or play-caller change after a humiliating loss to the Cleveland Browns,...
New York (CNN Business)Slugger Aaron Judge is chasing baseball history. So where can you watch it?The New York Yankees outfielder is on the brink of hitting the most home runs in American League history as he sits on 60 for the season. Welcome to Part III of my four-part interview with Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch. Parts I and II can be found here and here. They comprised the first half of a conversation that lasted nearly 70 minutes and mostly dealt with how the addition of star center Rudy Gobert will affect the offensive and (especially) defensive schemes the Wolves will deploy in the 2022-23 season. This second half – including today’s column and the one that will run Saturday –focuses more on specific players and personnel, their growth and compatibility. And it addresses how Finch’s own standing and responsibilities within the organization have changed with the hiring of President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly and his bountiful staff. MinnPost: Have you thought much about combinations of players you want together on the floor in rotation? It seems like Ant (Anthony Edwards) and KAT (Karl-Anthony Towns) and Kyle Anderson form a natural trio and Rudy and DLo (D’Angelo Russell) and Taurean Prince would work well together just in terms of floor spacing and skill-set fits. Chris Finch: A little bit....
Here’s how the Cleveland Browns took a 29-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football. Hmm… But we thought the Cleveland Browns were going to sputter and fall through their first 11 games of the season while they waited for Deshaun Watson to return? Guess we better think again. The Browns shocked with a 29-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football this week, giving them a 2-1 record and temporary sole possession of the AFC North lead. The game was historic for Kevin Stefanski, and though there was a bright spot of an incredible catch for the Steelers, it showed just how they might need to push things in the direction of Kenny Pickett, even if Mike Tomlin really doesn’t want to. Here’s what the experts around the web are saying about how the Steelers pulled this off.Things started off great for the Steelers offense…The rest of the story doesn’t shed much positive light on the Steelers, so let’s start with some positivity there. The opening half gave some reason to be optimistic for Steelers...

For much of the NFL, the game Sunday between the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans at Soldier Field is an afterthought, a clash between two bottom-tier teams, each with new coaches and scrapping to make the steep climb back toward relevance. But there’s still plenty of intrigue folded in as the Bears look to improve to 2-1 under Matt Eberflus and determined to prove last week’s 17-point rivalry loss to the Green Bay Packers was a small speed bump in their growth process. Former Bears coach Lovie Smith, meanwhile, brings his Texans to Chicago with plenty of hunger after they tied the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1 and were edged 16-9 by the Denver Broncos on Sunday. As kickoff approaches, here’s our snapshot look at Sunday’s game. 1. Pressing question Can Luke Getsy find answers to stimulate the Bears’ passing attack? By now, you know the attention-grabbling numbers from last week’s loss to the Packers. The Bears attempted only 11 passes, completed seven and managed just 48 net passing yards. Through two weeks, they have an NFL-worst 153 passing yards....

The Ravens will try to get back on track after their epic collapse against the Miami Dolphins. The New England Patriots aren’t the titanic opponent they were a few years ago, but they still have a stingy defense and the greatest coach of all time in Bill Belichick. Who has the advantage going into Week 3? Ravens passing game vs. Patriots pass defense The Ravens wasted one of the best passing performances of Lamar Jackson’s career (21 of 29, 318 yards, 3 TD) in their 42-38 loss to the Dolphins. Jackson benefited from a clean pocket created by the Ravens’ offensive line, and he was sharp on both timing and touch passes. His top two targets, wide receiver Rashod Bateman and tight end Mark Andrews, both surpassed 100 yards against Miami, and Bateman has established himself as a deep threat with touchdown catches of 55 and 75 yards in the first two weeks. The 2021 first-round draft pick is a chore for any cornerback to cover because of his quick, clean releases from the line of scrimmage. The Ravens have...
FOOTBALL fans have reacted to a disgusting hot dog on offer at non-league club Lancaster City after an image went viral on social media. That is if you take the hot dog in question as an accurate representation of the sustenance on sale. A photo of the grey, long sausage was posted on Instagram along with the caption: "Imagine paying £4 for a hot dog at Lancaster City and open it up to this." And fans responded in their droves to the dreadful piece of matchday grub. Luis Robert hit a towering fly to left field on the second pitch of his sixth-inning at-bat against Cleveland Guardians reliever Nick Sandlin on Tuesday at Guaranteed Rate Field. Would it be fair or foul? Robert stood in the box, leaning while hoping it would stay fair for a two-run homer. At the same time, acting manager Miguel Cairo jumped out of the dugout to get a better view of the ball. It kept curving and landed foul. The at-bat ended in a strikeout for Robert, who went 0-for-5 in the 10-7, 11-inning loss. The center fielder, who dealt with left wrist soreness before suffering a bruised left hand, was out of the lineup Wednesday and did not start again Thursday against the Guardians. The Sox trailed the Guardians by six games in the American League Central with 13 to play entering the series finale. “He’s still a little sore but he wants to play,” Cairo said before the game. “I said, ‘Let’s see how it feels (Friday) and we’ll go from there.’ ” Robert has started just six of...
The New York Mets set the MLB record for being hit by the most pitches in a single season. Earlier in the week, the New York Mets clinched their first postseason berth since 2016, after defeating the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday. In that very game, Max Scherzer recorded his 200th career win. The history only continued when facing the Milwaukee Brewers this week. During the team’s Sept. 21 game, Brewers pitcher Jake Cousins hit Mets infielder Luis Guillorme with a pitch that made contact with his left foot. With that, the Mets had their 106th player get hit by a pitch, which is now the most for any team in a single-season in the modern era. Mets manager Buck Showalter did not look upset about it. In fact, he actually asked for the ball! A student at the University of Utah was taken into custody Wednesday after she allegedly threatened to detonate a nuclear reactor kept inside one of the campus' science buildings - if the school's football team didn't win its game last week. The 21-year-old female suspect, identified as Meredith Miller, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Wednesday for the reported offense, on charges of making a threat of terrorism. The bizarre bomb threat came ahead of the No. 13 Utes’ home game against San Diego State on Saturday, where Utah was a heavy -2000 favorite. However, Miller still seemed wary that her team may not take home a win, and decided to take matters into her own hands - albeit in an ill-advised manner. According to police, on the eve of the game, Miller 'posted threats of violence' on Yik Yak - a community billboard app where users to anonymously engage with others within a 5-mile radius. Those threats, police said, saw the student assert  that she would 'detonate the nuclear reactor that is located in the University of Utah causing a mass...
The comparisons were all over social media this week. Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has 28 pass attempts in two games this season. Every other team in the league has at least 28 completions and 52 attempts. New York Jets quarterback Joe Flacco has 103 pass attempts. Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp has been targeted more times (29) than Fields has attempted a pass. And on and on. The Bears’ measly passing-game numbers, which total 15 completions and 191 yards, have dominated talk at Halas Hall in the lead-up to Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans at Soldier Field, with coach Matt Eberflus saying the Bears need to strive for a better balance in the running and passing games. Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy understands it: “I love to throw because I’m a quarterback guy, right?” And surely Getsy knows Fields needs to throw to develop in his second season. But Getsy also believes in following a plan tailored to what a defense is presenting them. “I truly believe in evaluating the matchups each week and saying, ‘OK,...
After an encouraging Week 1 performance defensively, the Jets took a step back against the Cleveland Browns last week. While Gang Green won its first game of the season 31-30, the defense allowed 131 more yards than it did against the Ravens in Week 1. “I have to do a better job of communicating,”  Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich said. “Do I want to attack the ball, absolutely because that’s what we do. “As we all know, it is the most historic statistic in terms of winning, taking the ball. In the player’s minds, that was their mindset in changing the course of this game by getting turnovers. In doing that, we failed to tackle as well as we should. I definitely have to be more conscious of that as far as telling them you have to wrap this guy up. We didn’t do a good enough job of that, coaching and players.” The Jets lost their season opener to the Ravens 24-9, but their defense held quarterback Lamar Jackson to 17 yards rushing. In total, New York gave up...
With the 2022-23 NBA season approaching, the Orlando Sentinel is unveiling a five-part series of Orlando Magic storylines to keep an eye on heading into training camp, which tips off Tuesday at their new state-of-the-art AdventHealth Training Center. Part one addressed whether the Magic did enough to turn around their shooting woes, while part two focused on injury-related questions. Part Three: The Rookies Paolo Banchero and Caleb Houstan took the first step in their NBA careers on the same night. But the outside expectations surrounding them couldn’t be more stark entering their rookies seasons. Houstan faces minimal external pressure as the Magic’s second-round pick (No. 32). As the top pick in June’s NBA draft, all eyes on are Banchero. Banchero’s used to attention after being a 5-star and playing at Duke during coach Mike Krzyzewski’s final season. He’s accustomed to high expectations and has embraced the pressure. Banchero used summer league to help show he can be the kind of go-to guy people expect most No. 1 picks to be. That process will continue once the Magic start camp. Orlando’s...

Getty Eagles CB Darius Slay celebrates an interception with C.J. Gardner-Johnson on Monday Night Football. Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the fifth time in his illustrious career. He was the definition of lockdown in Week 2. Slay held Vikings All-Pro Justin Jefferson to one reception on six targets, showing off his trademark swagger all evening after striking up a fast friendship with James Harden. Slay finished the game with two interceptions and five pass breakups. He has now recorded 119 pass breakups since 2013, which is the most in the NFL during that timeframe. Dominant. Elite. Unstoppable. There aren’t enough adjectives. Slay has put himself in the Hall of Fame conversation, according to Joe Haden. But Slay does it for another reason: interceptions equal big money. Seriously. “If I see ball, I try to get ball,” Slay told reporters. “I want the rock because the rock gets you a lot of money.” (Editor’s note: Slay is signed through the 2023 season after inking a 3-year, $50 million extension...

WHEN I was first invited to preview Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, I gladly accepted but remembered my initial distaste at seeing the first Mario + Rabbids game. I disliked having my beloved pal Mario hang around with a bunch of raving Rabbids.  2Inside a castle in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. Ubisoft’s rabbit-like gremlins aren’t known for their mass appeal, but despite that, they’ve since taken central stage as Ubisoft’s go-to family-friendly cast of characters. Ubisoft’s Minions, if you will. As a result, they’re the only characters from Ubisoft’s recent portfolio that can realistically hang out in the Mushroom Kingdom. But you don’t want people thinking it’s too childish, so throw in some guns too. The first Mario + Rabbids is a solid XCOM-like – a turn-based strategy game – and even the most stone-hearted Rabbid haters can’t deny that.  Classic Mario moves like the jump are turned into a hostile attack, and familiar items are now used for a one-up in battle.  More in GamingRIDING THE WAVE Here's all the courses coming to Mario Kart 8DIRECT...
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is not a robot, but the Green Bay Packers broke him. The Packers defeated the Bears on Sunday Night Football in what’s become a usual occurrence in one of the best rivalries in all of football. Chicago’s football franchise isn’t what it once was. However, a resurgence could be underway thanks to a young face of the franchise in Fields. For the most part, Fields has always said the right things, dating back to high school, Georgia and then Ohio State. However, after Sunday night’s game, Fields made a misstep, appearing to call out Bears fans. “Yeah. It hurts more in the locker room than the Bears fans. At the end of the day, they aren’t putting in any work. I see the guys in the locker room every day. I see how much work they put in. Coming out of a disappointing loss like this, it hurts,” Fields said. Bears: Justin Fields shows personality, makes subtle changes in routineEarly in the week, Fields backtracked off those comments, and admitted he was “angry” after a...
Lovie Smith is on his way back to Chicago. In his first season as Houston Texans coach, Smith’s trip into town this weekend to face the Bears will be all business, even if it comes on a stage at Soldier Field that produced an abundance of great memories over his nine seasons. The Bears are 3-point favorites Sunday. But it’s far from a gimme win as two bottom-tier teams work to find themselves on the final weekend of September. In the lead-up to the game, here are a handful of eye-catching facts and figures. 1-4 The Bears’ all-time record versus the Texans, including a blowout 36-7 victory in the last meeting in December 2020 at Soldier Field. Running back David Montgomery had an 80-yard touchdown run on the Bears’ first play from scrimmage as the offense rolled up 410 total yards and cruised. 8.1 Montgomery’s per-carry average Sunday in the Bears’ 27-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers. He amassed 122 yards on 15 rushes, the third highest total of his career. In his eight 100-yard rushing games, Montgomery has...

Long story short, we’re on to Week 3 of my NFL picks: 49ers 31, Broncos 21: The Nick Bosa Game. This “Sunday Night Football” showcase becomes Bosa’s signature game of his career and keys his NFL Defensive Player of the Year bid. On his side are a suffocating defense – and a frustrated Broncos’ fanbase that counts down the play clock to ridicule Denver’s game management. Line: 49ers -1.5 Browns 24, Steelers 21: How the week started: A Browns fan got arrested for throwing a water bottle at the team’s owner. How the week ends: A Steelers quarterback (Mitchell Trubisky) loses for throwing footballs at the Browns’ defense.
