One of the nations largest non-profit hospital chains was responsible for an aggressive scheme to hassle and harass financially destitute patients for money, even when they were legally not required to pay.  According to a shocking new report from the New York Times, Providence Health & Services began their plan in 2018 and continued it throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.  Employees of Providence were required to employ tactics from a 'detailed playbook' named Rev-Up in order to fleece money from patients. If patients still didn't pay, their accounts were referred on to even more aggressive debt-collecting services. The strategies employed to finesse patients were devised in part by a consulting firm who advised on the practices.  The consulting firm, McKinsey & Company, previously advised United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency during former President Donald Trump's administration, advised the Saudi government on suppressing dissent as well as serving as advisors to Enron. Prior to instigating the plan, Providence would forgive the outstanding debts owed by people whose bills were partially paid by Medicaid.  One of the nations largest non-profit hospital chains, Providence,...

New York (CNN)It all started with a knock on the door four decades ago. It was 1982 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Patricia R. Miller was stopping by to introduce herself to new neighbor Barbara Bradley Baekgaard."I happened to be the welcoming committee of one," Miller told CNN Business with a laugh. "Barbara answered the door draped in wallpaper — because it was their new home and she likes to wallpaper new homes — and I said, 'Welcome.' And that was it."The women quickly became inseparable. A few months later, coming home from a joint-family trip to Florida for Barb's mother's birthday, a layover in Atlanta changed everything. The duo, known to friends as "Pat and Barb" looked around at passengers' luggage and noticed it all looked rather dull, in shades of beige and black. The idea for Vera Bradley, named for Barb's mother, is now a $540 million women's fashion brand that sells brightly patterned bags and other goods, was born right there in that Atlanta airport terminal. CNN anchor Chris Wallace confronted filmmaker and media entrepreneur Tyler Perry with the oft-lobbed criticism that his Madea character promotes negative stereotypes, and cited Spike Lee‘s description of Perry’s portrayal as “coonery buffoonery.” Wallace’s series Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace debuted on HBO Max this week, and the first batch of episodes features an in-depth interview with Perry. In one riveting portion of the interview, Perry opened up to Wallace about the abuse he suffered at the hands of his father, and praised his mother’s role in his success: WALLACE: When you look at that, little boy that’s you five, what do you think? What do you what do you say, from this vantage point to that about your five year old self? PERRY: That’s that’s hard for me to look at my kid, I look so much Jesus, I look so much like my son. For months now, a Bergen County man has been routinely visiting a cemetery just across the New York state line and urinating on the grave of a woman he was briefly married to nearly 50 years ago, her survivors say. They have proof. Video secretly recorded by the late Linda Torello’s son shows the man pulling into the Tappan Reformed Church Cemetery off Old Tappan Road in an SUV. The vehicle is left running as he approaches Torello’s grave while unzipping his fly. He looks around, then does his business. Then he ambles back to the SUV. Not only did the Bergenfield man not know he was being recorded in the Rockland County graveyard. He also wasn’t aware that Michael Andrew Murphy was watching from nearby. Murphy, of Dumont, said he set his cellphone on a nearby headstone to record the desecration of his mother’s grave around 6:15 a.m. this past Sunday, Sept. 18. “I saw his car pull in. I tried to get in my car, but I was afraid I might spook him,” he said. “So I...

During his marathon seven-week libel trial in Fairfax, Virginia, this spring, Johnny Depp was a creature of habit. He would arrive every morning in a large grey SUV with loud reggae music pumping, and exit waving to fans while carrying a notebook and briefcase. In his wake would follow three bodyguards who had been in the car with him — plus a petite and elegant brunette, Joelle Rich. Rich, a 37-year-old married, privately educated London lawyer and mother of two, stayed a few careful paces away from the client at all times. She would then typically join his packed benches of supporters — sitting across from Amber Heard's team, as the sordid and prurient details of the libel trial, brought by Depp against his ex wife, were spilled out. In the evenings, with Johnny, 59, ensconced in the presidential suite at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in McLean, Rich would be among those joining him for nightly dinners at the nearby Palm steakhouse. The Depp party would spend thousands every night on meals which always featured chicken parmigiana and plenty of the best...

During his 2020 campaign, former President Donald Trump made a point of being vague when discussing the far-right QAnon movement. Trump refrained from overtly promoting QAnon and its conspiracy theories, but he wouldn’t say anything critical of them either and claimed that he “didn’t know much about” their movement. Times have changed. Trump is now openly promoting QAnon and is using exact phrases associated with the group, including “the storm” and their slogan “where we go one, we go all.” And Trump is hardly the only MAGA Republican who is embracing QAnon. Princess Anne's granddaughter Isla Philips wore a pretty equestrian crop and stirrup brooch to the Queen's funeral - in a subtle tribute to Her Majesty's love of riding. The daughter of Peter Philips, 10, joined the royal family including her auntie Zara Tindall and her sister Savannah, 11, at Windsor to say goodbye to the Queen on Monday. Princess Anne's grandchild donned a respectful black dress which she completed with a beautiful gold brooch which was pinned to her ensemble, and was a fitting nod to Her Majesty's love of horse riding.  The brooch appeared to show a riding crop through a stirrup, with royal fans speculating it could have been a gift from the Queen to her young great-granddaughter. Isla's aunt Zara and grandmother Princess Anne have both often worn similar golden brooches to pin their cravate in place while riding in competitions. It comes after fans spotted Princess Charlotte's horse shoe brooch was near identical to one owned by the Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth, in the 1920s. It is thought she herself had received it as a gift from her...

A former Riverdale actor who admitted to killing his mother in an effort to spare her from having to witness his plot to assassinate Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been sentenced to life in prison. Ryan Grantham, 24, will not be able to appeal for parole for 14 years after pleading guilty to a second-degree murder charge for fatally shooting his 64-year-old mother, Barbara Waite, while she played piano back in March 2020. He then proceeded to drive to Trudeau's residence with three guns, ammunition and 12 Molotov cocktails in his car, before deciding to turn himself in to authorities. Under Canadian law, a second-degree murder charge automatically comes with a life sentence — and the only thing his lawyers could dispute was how long he would have to serve before he could be granted parole. They argued back in June that Grantham should be eligible for parole after 12 years as he admitted his guilt and expressed sorrow for his actions, while the federal government argued he should have to serve 17 to 18 years before becoming eligible....

Georgia authorities do not believe Debbie Collier was kidnapped before she was found dead in a ravine earlier this month—despite the 59-year-old mother’s cryptic Venmo message to her daughter before the disappearance suggesting “they are not going to let me go.” “At this time, there is no evidence to suggest or support that this incident was related to kidnapping or that this is a suicide,” the Habersham County Sheriff's Office said in a Wednesday night statement. The revelation only fuels more questions about what happened to Collier after she was reported missing on Sept. 10 by her husband, Steve, and daughter. The report was made a few hours after Collier’s daughter, Amanda Bearden, received a Venmo payment of nearly $2,400 from her mother. “They are not going to let me go love you there is a key to the house in the blue flower pot by the door,” the message on the Venmo payment read. Less than 24 hours later, authorities found Collier nude and severely burned in a ravine about an hour from her Athens home. A Habersham...
