The Saudi Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources on Friday announced $6 billion in funding for a plant that will manufacture metals for electric vehicle batteries, plus plans for another $32 billion invested into Saudi Arabia’s mining industry. Al-Arabiya quoted Industry and Mineral Resources Minister Bandar al-Khorayef’s description of the investment plan: The nine projects include a $4 billion steel plate mill complex for the shipbuilding, oil and gas, construction and defense sectors and a “green” flat steel complex that will supply the automotive, food packaging, machinery and equipment, and other industrial sectors. Both projects are already underway, as is a $2 billion EV battery metals plant. … “These targeted investments represent an important ‘down payment’ in our efforts to move beyond exploration and extraction and into the creation of integrated value chains, a central focus of our overall mining strategy,” al-Khorayef said in the statement. In April, the Saudi government signed a deal with Lucid Motors to buy at least 50,000 electric vehicles over the next ten years.  Saudi officials called the deal “a significant move that supports the key...

Brown | AFP | Getty Images DETROIT – Wholesale used-vehicle prices have notably fallen from a record high, set in January, signaling the worst of sky-high prices related to higher inflation in the U.S. may be behind us. Cox Automotive said on Friday that its Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index, which tracks prices of used vehicles sold at its U.S. wholesale auctions, declined 1% in April from March – marking the third straight month of declines from the first month of the year. "We clearly have returned to vehicles depreciating again. That's a good news story for both inflation and for consumers looking to buy a vehicle," Jonathan Smoke, chief economist at Cox Automotive told CNBC. Wholesale vehicle prices have dropped 6.4% since the January record. However, prices are still extremely high, and the index remains up 14% from a year ago. The drop-off in pricing comes as Manheim estimates used retail sales declined 13% in April from March, suggesting demand is easing amid...

Shrine Pass is located to the west of Vail Pass and Interstate 70, and the group wrote that “it took quite a lengthy amount of winch rope to reach the vehicle from an area that was still safe for vehicles to be at.” Colorado 4×4 Rescue and Recovery shared photos of the vehicle rescue on Facebook. They said it took only a few hours to complete. Chicago Bears receiver Byron Pringle complained about it being hot as he squirmed around uncomfortably in the back of a police cruiser, and told officers 'I see how people die in the backseat of this b****' after he was arrested in Florida for doing donuts in his Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat while his son was in the car.  Pringle, 28, who sat handcuffed in the backseat of the trooper's vehicle for about nine minutes before they started driving over to the Pasco County Jail, begged them to hurry up.   The exchange and Pringle's arrest was captured on dashcam and bodycam video that was later released by the Florida Highway Patrol.  Florida Highway Patrol officers say Pringle became 'verbally confrontational' after he was stopped around 6 p.m. while burning rubber doing donuts in his vehicle on Saturday night in Pascoe County, north of Tampa.  Bodycam video shows Pringle and his passenger, believed to be his son, being pulled from the car, as he's heard on the video telling trooper 'Come on, let me get out.' He then asked for the deputy on the scene to...
This Ukrainian Sukhoi Su-25 is releasing decoy as it provides air support to Ukrainian troops on the ground during a battle near Yampil on April 27, 2022. Almost as if Ukraine understands the needs for combined arms. In a sea of tanks, armored personal carriers (APC), infantry fighting vehicles (IFV), armored fighting vehicles (AFV), Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Vehicles, it can be easy to overlook the vehicles that are most often responsible for getting soldiers where they need to be on the battlefield — Infantry Mobility Vehicles. Also known as Jeeps. Well, not actually Jeeps. But these are the vehicles that serve the role somewhere between Willy’s Jeeps and the 6×6 truck “Jimmy” trucks that were workhorses of U.S. forces in World War II. They get soldiers from bases to units a lot faster and more reliably than a lumbering APC. They deliver critical spare parts to where they’re needed. They patrol towns and villages behind the front lines. Depending on the level of armor and equipment, they can even become surprisingly involved in combat. When Russia invaded, there were already a number of vehicles serving...

What this American encountered on Thursday, April 7, was great fear. The vehicle’s internal computer crashed while driving its Tesla Model 3 on a California highway. No controls were answered, there were no turn signals or alarm lights, and the main screen froze. Even more worrying: despite several attempts to depress the brake pedal, the speed stuck at 83 mph or 133 km / h. Dangerous braking After several failed attempts, the brake pedal fortunately started working again, but it was not enough to reassure the driver. “If I had to brake hard, I was nervous I would not be able to regain the speed needed to get around traffic and cars. I was afraid someone would run up to me,” he said. ABC News. The man was finally able to gently pull on the hard shoulder and turn off the machine. When he restarted it a few minutes later, “everything seemed normal again” but he wanted to ask the California Highway Patrol officer’s assistant to get off the highway safely before pulling his car over. “I need more explanations”...
People avoid buying electric vehicles out of fear. Many worry the charging infrastructure isn't adequate, that they'll get stranded between charging stations—a concern known as range anxiety in EV circles. But now a pilot program in Michigan could ease that tension. Next spring, the nation’s first mile of public road that can charge electric vehicles as they drive over it will go online in Detroit. A joint venture between the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Israeli mobility startup Electreon, the road is the centerpiece of a $5.7 million program to study how charging roads in dense urban environments affect everyday life. The technology is the same used to wirelessly charge a smartphone—on a much larger scale. A box connects magnetic coils embedded into asphalt to the power grid, and those coils then emit a magnetic field that is picked up by a receiver mounted to an EV’s chassis. The road isn't meant to bring an EV back from empty: It charges at 20 kilowatts, roughly the same consumption rate an EV uses at highway speeds. The receiver can be...

President Biden said he is ready to fork over the cash to fight climate change this Earth Day.  The president promised to spend 'billions' to begin a campaign to make every military vehicle climate friendly.  'Every vehicle, no I mean it. We're spending billions of dollars to do it,' Biden said during Earth Day remarks in Seattle, Washington.  'I think we're in one of those moments in world history, American history, where we've reached the point the crisis on the environment, it has  become so obvious with the notable exception of the former president,' Biden said.  The president then said his administration was working to take 'tens of thousands' of diesel-powered buses off the road and replace them with electric ones, as he talked about his administration's push to get electric vehicles on the road.  'I'm an automobile buff. I have a '68 Corvette that does nothing but pollute the air , but I don't drive very much.' The president said nothing about when his own motorcade or the 15,000 'Beast' limo he rides in, which gets around 8 mpg. would...

Battery range is about 225 miles officially, but the one I drove seemed to be doing much better than that, according to the onboard computer.Subaru must be onto something, as the Solterra already appears to be a success just over two months after they opened the reservation process."We sold...

Released April 19, 2022 – Is + By Peter German. We don’t count anymore Success announcements Announcing that the new XZZ Plus (or other) will finally solve the battery capacity and rapid recharging problem, making the electric car just as efficient as a conventional thermal vehicle, with less than 5 minutes of recharging time and capacity mileage exceeding the 800 km range of most diesel vehicles today. Our specialty journalists, in the modern age of electric cars that need to be charged 24 hours, their charging time seems to increase rapidly to 12 hours and then to 6 hours, decreasing rapidly over time. (CNN)People love that "new car smell." For most cars and SUVs, it's a mixture of plastics, stain resistant fabrics and maybe some actual leather, as well. It's a complex olfactory chorus of odors that elicits an emotional response. At car companies like Nissan there are professionals part of whose job is to sniff carefully and ensure every new car has the that unique new car smell. So many demands are made on materials used inside of a car -- they have to last for years, must be easily cleanable, withstand extreme temperatures, and so on -- that expecting them to also smell nice is a lot to ask.But these difficult demands are why carmakers employ people like Tori Keerl, a materials engineer at Nissan's technical center in Farmington Hills, Michigan. She oversees a team of odor experts who carefully analyze the smells of everything that goes inside of vehicles like the Nissan Pathfinder SUV and Frontier pickup. I met her on the show floor of the New York Auto Show to talk about smells and to put my own nose...

The moment a Russian tank appears to blast another Russian armoured vehicle from yards away in an apparent friendly fire incident has been caught on video.  The video by a Ukrainian drone seems to show Russian troops and armour around the village of Dmytrivka just to the west of Kyiv as they were preparing to pull out from their stalled assault on the Ukrainian capital.  The ambush is then sprung as a litany of blasts and explosions strike the bunched up Russian tanks from what are thought to be Ukrainian drones and artillery.  Previous versions of the video, which was filmed by a loitering drone on March 31, had been unclear, but a new, higher-quality version makes the Russian tanks clearly identifiable by their distinctive 'V' markings. In the ensuing panic and chaos, a tank with the 'V' markings can be seen in a friendly fire incident blasting its main cannon at another tank with the same markings from nearly pointblank range. It has been speculated that this might have been an intentional act if the tank had been disabled, to...
A Colorado deputy used his vehicle to intervene against a wrong-way driver Monday on a highway. The impact did not leave any parties with major injuries. The 26-year-old Adams County Sheriff's deputy put his car between the vehicle and other drivers, preventing a worse accident. 'AIN'T NOBODY IN IT': SAN FRANCISCO POLICE PULL OVER DRIVERLESS CAR The 83-year-old driver was going westbound in the eastbound lane. About a dozen cars on Interstate 70 at about mile marker 328 were already pulled over, bracing for disaster before the deputy successfully stopped the elderly driver. The Facebook account of the Adams County Sheriff's Office shared photographed results of the Monday crash in what it called a "Thankful Tuesday" post. The Colorado State Patrol notified the sheriff's office of the wrong-way driver at 11 p.m. Monday. Deputies from the CSP and Arapahoe County had already attempted to stop the driver earlier, but the car only came to a stop after hitting the deputy's vehicle. "The impact pushed both vehicles over 140 ft and into the front...

The United States has the largest railway network in the world. Beginning in the early 1800s, the laying of train tracks became a symbol of America's economic and territorial expansion. Today, almost 2 billion tons of goods travel on American trains every year and millions of Americans use Amtrak to get around the country. All of that railway activity is a massive yet underrated contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. If we’re going to prevent the most devastating effects of climate change from occurring, it’s going to be important for the U.S. to electrify its travel habits—not just with automobiles, but with every other major mode of transportation as well. Commuter and long-distance trains typically run on noxious diesel fuel, contributing roughly twice as much carbon emissions as electric trains. We use electric trains to get around cities (the New York City subway and San Francisco’s BART system are perhaps the most famous examples), but they require an overhead line (a catenary) or a third rail that constantly feeds electricity. Chris Rahn, a professor of mechanical engineering at Penn State, told...
GREENSBURG (KDKA) – Driven by the high cost of gas, the number of cars being stolen at gas stations across the country is on the rise. One of those cases happened right here in Greensburg this week, so what can you do to protect yourself? READ MORE: Allegheny County Jail Oversight Board Hears Concerns Over Staffing And SafetyIt’s the kind of crime we generally don’t give a second thought but it’s becoming more evident that we should. The police understand our complacency. “It’s easy to think we’re just going to pump gas and then nothing is going to happen because typically, nothing does happen,” said Greensburg Police Chief Shawn Denning. When Angela Piper’s car was stolen from a Greensburg gas station, Denning said it wasn’t a ploy to steal a resellable car. “A guy we believe just needed a ride back to Indiana,” he explained. “He was desperate. He found the opportunity, popped in, and took it, the vehicle has been recovered. You know he has been subsequently arrested. But we do believe that that...
The teens were charged with carjacking, robbery, and conspiracy, KTVU reported, adding that they're all being held at the Santa Clara County juvenile detention center. KPIX said officers found the victim’s stolen property on one of the suspects. Police advised motorists to be aware of their surroundings and lock their doors immediately after entering their vehicles, KTVU said. Prof weighs in on 'root' of issue "Many of these kids do not see themselves [as] ever having enough money to get a license, purchase a car, pay for insurance, pay for gas, but they still want to feel what it's like to be behind the wheel," Prof. William Carbone, a juvenile justice expert at the University of New Haven, told KTVU. "And I think that’s what at the root of this current issue." KTVU also pointed out the larger crime wave in the San Francisco Bay Area and elsewhere around the country, specifically organized retail theft. California state legislators and retailers are pushing for AB2390 to become law, because it would strengthen...

In this article GMGMC Hummer EV Edition 1Michael Wayland / CNBCPHOENIX – The new electric GMC Hummer pickup is different for General Motors and not just because it isn't a gas-guzzler like its ancestors. It marks a major shift for the historically conservative Detroit automaker in both form and function, according to those who worked on it. The "highly profitable" vehicle is the flagship for GM's new Ultium EV technologies and is the new benchmark for the Detroit automaker in terms of development time. There also are other notable features inside the vehicle that insiders say are testaments to GM changing as a company to better compete against Tesla and newer EV start-ups. Such features include a subtle dig at Tesla's long-delayed Cybertruck, a prominently placed button that currently does nothing — and a "Watts to Freedom," or WTF, mode that launches the massive vehicle 0-60 mph in about three seconds. That's comparable to a Chevy Corvette and slightly slower than some Tesla performance models that can achieve the speed in under three seconds. "Hopefully, there's a lot that's surprising...

The moment Russian tanks appeared to open fire on a cyclist in the town of Bucha was captured on video by a drone, in potentially more damning evidence of war crimes carried out by Vladimir Putin's forces in Ukraine. Footage of the attack in the Kyiv Oblast town shows a man walking his bicycle up a street, unaware that several Russian tanks lie in wait around the corner. Another video purportedly showed the aftermath of the attack after Bucha was reclaimed from Moscow's clutches in recent days. In it, a person believed to be the same man can be seen dead on the side of the road next to his bicycle. In the first video, captured on March 3, the drone appears to be watching the Russian tank column, but the footage also tracks the man as he is walking up the road that runs through a neighbourhood of destroyed or damaged buildings. The operator of the drone repeatedly pans upwards, showing a long queue of military vehicles - including tanks, armoured personnel carriers and trucks - positioned between buildings, on the...
CHICAGO -- BMW has halted production at two German factories. Mercedes is slowing work at its assembly plants. Volkswagen, warning of production stoppages, is looking for alternative sources for parts. The video featured is from a previous report. For more than a year, the global auto industry has struggled with a disastrous shortage of computer chips and other vital parts that has shrunk production, slowed deliveries and sent prices for new and used cars soaring beyond reach for millions of consumers. Now, a new factor - Russia's war against Ukraine - has thrown up yet another obstacle. Critically important electrical wiring, made in Ukraine, is suddenly out of reach. With buyer demand high, materials scarce and the war causing new disruptions, vehicle prices are expected to head even higher well into next year. The war's damage to the auto industry has emerged first in Europe. But U.S. production will likely suffer eventually, too, if Russian exports of metals - from palladium for catalytic converters to nickel for electric vehicle batteries - are cut off."You only need to miss one part not to be...

Dramatic bodycam footage captures the moment a woman is saved from a duffel bag inside a burning car while she was being transported by a human smuggler.  U.S. Border Patrol agents began chasing a vehicle on I-35 near Laredo in Webb County and ended in La Salle County on Wednesday. The pursuit was later joined by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). The smuggler then crashed his car, which caught on fire, and he ran out of the vehicle.
Brave Ukrainian soldiers have calmly kicked away anti-tank mines from a road out of Kyiv in the latest display of utter fearlessness. Footage shared on social media showed the three soldiers in camouflage pushing the explosive devices to the side of the road with their feet.
