More than three years after a man was nearly killed in a shooting outside of a Long Island nightclub, the convicted gunman is heading to prison. Hempstead resident Jermaine Grant, age 37, was sentenced to 20 years behind bars in Nassau County Court on Friday, Dec. 2, in connection with the July 2019 shooting outside of the D’Ambiance Nightclub in Baldwin. Jurors deliberated for just four hours before convicting Grant of second-degree attempted murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in October 2022.  He was acquitted of a tampering with physical evidence charge. Prosecutors said it was around 2 a.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2019, when Grant spotted an “enemy” outside the club’s front door and followed the man into an alley. He then pulled out a gun and fired seven shots toward the victim, who was able to run away and escape without injury, prosecutors said. Police arrested Grant later that day in Hempstead. “This defendant stalked and cornered his victim, firing multiple shots as the man tried to flee. Jermaine Grant was shooting to...
Mayor-elect Karen Bass will hold a public inauguration on Dec. 11 outside Los Angeles City Hall, one day before she officially takes office as the first woman elected to serve in the city’s top job, her campaign said Thursday. Bass’ midday ceremony will take place on the Spring Street steps of City Hall facing Grand Park and will include musical and cultural performances. Bass spokesperson Zach Seidl declined to provide specifics about those performances. Bass will also speak about her plans for the city during the Sunday ceremony. The event is ceremonial; Bass’ official swearing-in will take place before the city clerk in a non-public setting. The broad strokes of the event appear similar to Mayor Eric Garcetti’s relatively low-key 2013 inauguration. Garcetti’s ceremony, also held on a Sunday, was emceed by late-night host Jimmy Kimmel and took place on the Spring Street steps, followed by a free public party in Grand Park. The outgoing mayor’s oath of office was administered by Kenia Castillo, a 13-year-old constituent who met Garcetti when her mother, a janitor, was striking for better wages....
Scouted selects products independently. If you purchase something from our posts, we may earn a small commission. For years, running was something I avoided if I could help it. It wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy exercising or challenging myself physically; in fact, I loved being athletic and doing things like reformer Pilates, water aerobics, and spinning. The real truth was that I could never find a workout bra that didn’t make running an uncomfortable and oftentimes, painful endeavor—until I found the Lululemon Run Times Bra. As someone who has a larger chest and needs a bra size they don’t carry in most brick-and-mortar stores, I found it nearly impossible to find a workout bra that wasn’t too loose, too tight, too thin, or too compressing to give me that supportive and comfortable lift I needed while I was pounding the pavement. For myself and any bystanders who happen to be watching me wearing the wrong running bra, there was just way too much jiggling and bouncing going on for me to feel comfortable enough to make it my go-to exercise...

Getty The Green Bay Packers could add another pass rusher in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Green Bay Packers are lacking serious depth when it comes to rushing the passer, but general manager Brian Gutekunst could resolve that issue by finding a premier talent in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Star pass rusher Rashan Gary is unlikely to return for the start of the 2023 season after suffering a torn ACL against the Detroit Lions in Week 9. That leaves the team with few reliable options on  the outside behind Preston Smith and rookie Kingsley Enagbare. Dane Brugler with The Athletic has a plan for the Packers to address their pass rush in his latest mock draft, having Green Bay take Texas Tech’s Tyree Wilson with the eighth overall pick. “Of the last 12 first-round picks by the Packers, only one (Jordan Love) came on offense,” Brugler said. “An offensive lineman is possible here — Peter Skoronski playing for the Packers just like his Super Bowl-winning grandfather, Bob Skoronski, would be an awesome story. But no one...

A sleep consultant has shared her top tips for parents who are struggling to get their kids to bed at night - including ignoring them when they cry, spending time outside during the day, and having a regular wake-up time. Leanne Palmerston, 51, a perinatal professional and baby sleep expert from Hamilton, Toronto, Canada, revealed that there are 'simple things' parents can do to ensure that they, and their children, get a full night's sleep - but according to the doula, it's important that they enforce good sleep patterns 'from day one.' Leanne explained that 'babies are creatures of habit,' so she said it's vital to instill a bedtime routine from the beginning, and to make sure they go to sleep and get up at the same time every day. She added that parents need to fight the urge to go in and tend to their infants if they wake up in the middle of the night because they'll most likely fall back to sleep if they're left alone, adding that constantly bringing them a bottle during the night will...
This is the wild moment angry Delta flight attendants told a wheelchair-bound man the TSA would forcibly remove him from a flight after he refused to deplane because his wheelchair hadn't been brought to the gate.  Cory Lee, a Georgia-based accessibility travel blogger, had just returned to Atlanta from Santiago and was waiting to disembark when he learned his wheelchair wasn't ready for him. When Lee - who suffers from spinal muscular atrophy - told the flight crew he would wait until his chair was ready to disembark, he said they became irate and in a rage insisted that he leave the plane. He held his ground however and because he knew the Air Carrier Access Act required the airline to allow him to remain on the plane until his chair was ready. Lee blogs about traveling with disabilities, and posted video of the altercation on his Instagram.

DEAR JOAN: My dear little terrier, who is 12 years old, is the most well-behaved dog that I have ever had. He seems to be quite healthy, but his eating and drinking habits are a little strange. He is on a diet of good dry food. I refill his food and water bowls, located in the kitchen, whenever they are empty or near empty. Often he will eat his food, when I sit down for a meal, but not always. Mostly he nibbles on his food throughout the day. I never feed him food from the table, and he never begs from me. He does beg from other people if they are present, because he has learned that sometimes they will feed him. His behavior in this regard is just what I would expect. When I am gone for several hours, Dexter is put outside on my deck. He does not have a “doggy door.” I do live in a very temperate climate, and I always manage to get him inside when it rains or becomes very hot. While I put...

Sometimes it is the outside conversation that confirms the ascension. So even beyond the 38 points that Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo put on the visiting Washington Wizards in Friday night’s 110-107 victory, what might have resonated even more were the postgame comments of Wizards center Kristaps Porzingis. “I don’t remember,” Porzingis said, when he played like this.” Considering Adebayo’s career high is 41, it’s not as if there have been many such games for Adebayo. But in setting career bests with 22 shots, 15 baskets and 30 points in the paint, it was another sign of a player bent on a more aggressive approach, which has been a point of emphasis this season. “That’s one of those games where he shows his dominance of a big, and that’s on both ends of the floor,” point guard Kyle Lowry said, with the Heat shifting their focus to Sunday’s 5 p.m. game against the Atlanta Hawks at the start of a four-game trip. “But we don’t want him to have to do it every night, but it’s great to see it....

John Andrew Stitt, who goes by Drew, was confronted by Deputy Katlin Long in Logan County on Halloween night after the guns were found in the parking lot of a local haunted house.  Stitt, 20, approached the officers and said: 'To be honest, my dad is the governor.' At one point, he admitted to the officers he'd been drinking after they asked if he'd been using marijuana. Long can be heard responding: 'I don't care,' to which Stitt replies: 'No, I know, I'd just like to clarify.' She then asks Stitt if he was the driver and he calls out 'a buddy' named Ashley as the driver. The deputy then asks him to get his phone and call his parents. On Wednesday, Chesapeake Police Chief Mark Solesky put the number of victims in area hospitals at four, meaning two have been discharged since then. It comes as the Daily Mail reports that the gunman, Walmart supervisor Andre Bing, dumped a list with the name of one of his six victims circled in a trash can outside his home. The list was found by a Mail journalist, who subsequently alerted the FBI to its existence. It shows, the Mail...

Getty The Green Bay Packers added another OLB to give the team some much-needed depth. The Green Bay Packers have been looking for answers to rush the passer without their star player Rashan Gary, and general manager Brian Gutekunst is taking a chance on an incredibly athletic linebacker off of waivers. It’s been tough sledding for Green Bay’s defense after Gary suffered a torn ACL that ended his season against the Detroit Lions. The Packers have had very few pass-rushing options since the injury outside of Preston Smith and rookie Kingsley “JJ” Enagbare, with virtually no depth behind those two at outside linebacker. However, the Packers have finally made a move to try and add a bit of depth to the position. NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport tweeted that the Packers had claimed former Los Angeles Rams linebacker Justin Hollins off of waivers on Wednesday, November 23.
