latest news at page 1:
While hosting the Pro Football Hall of Fame dinner, Michigan alum Rich Eisen couldn’t resist the opportunity to roast the Ohio State Buckeyes. NFL Network’s Rich Eisen has spent much of the past decade-plus enduring misery as a Michigan Wolverines alum against the Ohio State Buckeyes. After the Wolverines’ 42-27 win last November, though, the beloved personality couldn’t resist an opportunity to poke back at the Scarlet and Gray in a way only someone in the Maize and Blue could do. At the Pro Football Hall of Fame ceremonial dinner, Eisen trolled the Buckeyes about the contest, bringing up Hassan Haskins and his magical day of five touchdowns while relishing over the end of eight years of Wolverine misery suffered at the hands of the Buckeyes. Needless to say, the Buckeye faithful in attendance were not pleased. Coming to Ohio and trolling @OhioStateFB fans? Jim Knowles is in his bag, having a kicker switch positions on his Ohio State football defense. After hardly playing at all the last two seasons, Ohio State football kicker Jake Seibert is looking to emerge as a cornerback on Jim Knowles’ first Buckeyes defense. “He wanted to kind of bring some different value,” said Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day to Joey Kaufman of The Columbus Dispatch about Seibert. “He’s still going to work on kicking and do that part of it, but he’s also going to be able to help us at other positions.” Seibert played cornerback and wide receiver in high school in his native Cincinnati. To date, his most notable playing time as a kicker at Ohio State came in the national championship game vs. Alabama in 2020 when starter Blake Haubeil was rule out for the title bout after having tested positive for COVID. Seibert did not attempt a single field goal for the Buckeyes last college season. This may be a way of extracting further value on the roster, but this position switch is an odd...
Rowdy Ohio State football fans are absolutely losing it on message boards over recruitment. Ohio State football fans are taking Ricky Bobby gospel to heart when it comes to recruitment. In a world of “if you ain’t first, you’re last”, Buckeyes fans are getting buck wild on Bucknuts message boards about the program seemingly falling apart at the seams. Who does No. 2 in recruiting work for? That would be Ryan Day at Ohio State. Despite only trailing Notre Dame on the recruiting trails in 2023, Day and new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles are getting shredded. Ohio State may have 19 commits for 2023, but only one of them is a five-star. Though the Buckeyes only trail the Irish by a few points in 247Sports’ team recruiting rankings, Georgia, Alabama and Texas are all within 10 points of THE Ohio State University… #OhioState fans are starting to panic. pic.twitter.com/r2VVubzPiv — Message Board Geniuses (@BoardGeniuses) August 1, 2022 Ohio State football fans are losing their minds over latest recruiting meltdown No, it is not just one Ohio State fan getting big mad...
Ohio State Head Coach Ryan Day will take success in any way, but he has high expectations for the Buckeyes Football Program. Last season, the Ohio State Buckeyes finished 11-2 and beat the Utah Utes to win the Rose Bowl — a good season, but not by Ryan Day’s standards. Winning the Rose Bowl is certainly a great accomplishment, and Day understands that and appreciates it, but the Buckeyes, according to Day, have higher standards for themselves. Ryan Day: "Some places, going 11-2 and winning the Rose Bowl is a great year. At Ohio State, its not." — Pat Forde (@ByPatForde) July 27, 2022 Wow. That says a lot. It’s good for a team like the Buckeyes to have a championship-or-bust mindset, given the history of their program and the success that has followed them. At the same time, it’s also important to understand that going 11-2 and winning the Rose Bowl is still a significant accomplishment, given the game’s magnitude.Ryan Day is not short in building lofty expectations for the Ohio State BuckeyesIn fairness to Ryan Day, the...

Assuming the Buckeyes can play a lick of defense, Ryan Day could lead the Ohio State football team to its second national championship of the College Football Playoff era this season. Ohio State should be the overwhelming favorite to come out of the Big Ten. There is a great possibility that the Buckeyes are the only team getting into the four-team field without a blemish on their record. Jack Sawyer, Ohio State Buckeyes. (Photo by Jamie Sabau/Getty Images) Ryan Day’s Ohio State football team has every reason to believe it can win the national title. As long as the Buckeyes can play a lick of defense, the Ohio State football team is going to be an unstoppable force this upcoming college season. Ohio State shockingly missed out on the Big Ten Championship game a year ago. While the Buckeyes put on a fireworks show in their shootout victory over the Utah Utes in the Rose Bowl, anything short of a national championship this season will be met with great disappointment. The good news is the Buckeyes have the depth and talent at key positions to make this thing possible. Getty Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud will be a top target for the Seattle Seahawks in 2023. The Seattle Seahawks have been put under the microscope all offseason as media members and fans alike monitor the team’s quarterback situation. If the team doesn’t make a big move for a QB before the start of the 2022 season, then the Seahawks front office is likely to start heavily monitoring prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft. Mike Renner with Pro Football Focus gave out his list of 2023 NFL Draft prospects that each NFL franchise should be watching. When discussing the Seahawks, Renner made the case for the team to keep an eye on Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud. “The Seahawks will firmly be in the mix for the top quarterbacks in the 2023 class, and that means they’ll have their eyes on Stroud all fall,” Renner said. “He earned a 92.2 overall grade in his first season as a starter…He’s much more of a traditional pocket passer that Seahawks brass seemingly lamented Russell Wilson for not being.”C.J....
Ohio State University has won its legal fight to trademark the word 'The.' The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office approved the university's request Tuesday, recognizing OSU's claim to the definite article, one of the most common words in the English language. The school says it allows Ohio State to control use of 'The' on branded merchandise associated with the school and its teams, such as T-shirts, baseball caps and hats. Ohio State's name was defined in an 1878 law as 'The Ohio State University,' and supporters of the school frequently insist on using the full formal name as an expression of their loyalty.  Ohio State University has won its legal fight to trademark the word 'The' and will use the phrase on Buckeyes merch like the T-shirts seen above  Fashion designer Marc Jacobs (above) had filed an application for the word a few months before OSU, but the school and the retailer struck a deal to share usage For example, at the beginning of NFL games, ex-Buckeyes football players often emphasize 'The' when identifying themselves as Ohio State alumni during starting...
Ohio State football already has the deepest wide receiver corps in the country. They’re only getting stronger with five-star Brandon Inniss committing. Ohio State’s quest to take over the Wide Receiver U moniker once and for all is on track with their second five-star wide receiver commitment in two days. On Tuesday, Brandon Inniss made his pledge to the Buckeyes, following in the footsteps of fellow five-star WR Carnell Tate, who committed on Monday. “For the next 3-4 years I will be taking my academic and athletic abilities to THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY,” Inniss wrote on Twitter along with thanks to God, his parents, his brother and sister, all the coaches and trainers who have guided him and all the college coaches who have recruited him. The Ohio State University is quickly becoming the NIL capital of the college sports universe. In the wonderful world of NIL, no school is doing a better job of putting its student-athletes in positions to succeed when it comes to name, image, likeness quite like The Ohio State University. OSUNIL is changing the game in the Wild, Wild West stage of NIL. The Buckeyes have had over 1,000 deals negotiated in the first year since NIL has been adopted. They rank first in overall NIL compensation, as well as the number of student-athletes who have garnered at least one NIL deal. This comes as a surprise to no one, as Ohio State was always going to be elite in this venture. NIL may help other schools even the playing field, but it is hard to stop a juggernaut like this one. All Brian Hartline does is get five-star wide receivers to commit to his alma mater, THE Ohio State University. With five-star wide receiver Carnell Tate committing to Ohio State, Buckeyes wide receivers coach Brian Hartline is 100 percent that guy. The IMG Academy product by way of Chicago committed to the Buckeyes on Monday afternoon. According to the 247Sports Composite, Tate was the No. 3 wide receiver in the country, the No. 7 player “from Florida” and the No. 28 overall player nationally. He had 37 official offers, but picked the Buckeyes over the Tennessee Volunteers, the LSU Tigers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Ohio State Buckeyes. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images) The Ohio State football team should view this season as one where the Buckeyes can win it all. Expect Ryan Day’s Ohio State football program to be one of the teams making it into the College Football Playoff this holiday season. Ohio State missed out on the final four a year ago after losing a pair of regular-season games to the Oregon Ducks and the arch-rival Michigan Wolverines. The good news is the Buckeyes are riding a ton of momentum after beating Pac-12 champion Utah in an absolute barn-burner of a Rose Bowl. COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State on Monday announced the firing of baseball coach Greg Beals after 12 seasons. The school said Beals has been informed that he will not return for the 2023 season, which would have been the final year of his contract. The search for a new coach will begin immediately. His firing comes after Ohio State finished 12th in the Big Ten this season with an 8-14 conference record. The Buckeyes were 21-30 overall. Beals coached the Buckeyes since 2011, compiling a record of 346-288-1 (141-139 in the Big Ten). He led Ohio State to Big Ten tournament championships in 2016 and 2019. The Buckeyes advanced to NCAA regionals in 2016, 2018 and 2019 but didn’t get out of the first round in any appearance. ___ More AP sports: https://apnews.com/hub/apf-sports and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports Copyright © 2022 The Associated Press. C.J. Stroud and the rest of the Ohio State football program did their part to honor the late Dwayne Haskins during the Buckeyes’ annual spring game on Saturday afternoon in Columbus. The former Ohio State standout tragically lost his life in South Florida last weekend. He was about to his celebrate his 25th birthday. Ohio State football fans will gather in The Horseshoe on Saturday afternoon to watch their beloved Buckeyes play their annual spring game. Ryan Day’s Ohio State football team will conclude its spring practices with its annual spring game at Ohio Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Yes, Day’s team may have defeated a strong Utah Utes team in the Rose Bowl, but it will once again be College Football Playoff or bust for this group. Ohio State may not be favored to win it all this year, but they are on a short list of teams who can absolutely win the four-team tournament. COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Jaxon Smith-Njigba was one of the Ohio State receivers who weren’t getting a lot of attention at this time last year. All the national buzz was about NFL prospects Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. Smith-Njigba, the starting slot receiver for the Buckeyes as a sophomore last year, eventually stepped out of the shadow of the more established receivers to pace the Buckeyes with 95 catches and 1,606 yards. With Olave and Wilson sitting out the Rose Bowl and looking ahead to the NFL draft, Smith-Njigba became the game’s offensive MVP, catching 15 passes for a postseason-record 347 receiving yards and three touchdowns in Ohio State’s 48-45 shootout win over Utah. Smith-Njigba entered spring practice 2022 as the undisputed No. 1 wideout, the guy who will be getting the preseason attention this time. Ohio State basketball failed to make it to the second weekend of March Madness for the second straight year and fans aren’t happy with Chris Holtmann. The Ohio State Buckeyes accomplished what they were unable to last year with a First Round NCAA Tournament win. But the victory was also a bit historic.  Surely with memories of their upset loss to Oral Roberts as a No. 2 seed last year in the NCAA Tournament dancing through their heads, the Ohio State Buckeyes took the floor in Pittsburgh for the First Round of March Madness to kick off Friday’s action. They again appeared in danger of getting upset as they squared off against the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers. Despite the matchup, though, the Buckeyes took care of business and clawed their way to advance to the weekend with a 54-41 win. It might not have been a fast-paced affair that gets the juices going, but E.J. Liddell and the rest of Chris Holtman’s team won’t complain as they got the win. However, the low-scoring affair actually led to a bit of history for Ohio State.Ohio State’s NCAA Tournament win over Loyola-Chicago was a first in over 75 yearsAs it turns out, winning in March Madness with only 54 points...
PITTSBURGH (AP) — No extended March stay for Loyola Chicago and Sister Jean this time. Not with Ohio State taking away every inch of open space. Not with E.J. Liddell creating a bit of his own with each pull-up jumper. Not with the seventh-seeded Buckeyes showing that when healthy, they can make every trip down the floor for their opponent a frustrating mess. E.J. Liddell scored 16 points, Big Ten Freshman of the Year Malaki Branham added 14 and Ohio State shut down the 10th-seeded Ramblers from start to finish, winning 54-41 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday. The Buckeyes (20-11) advanced to play either Villanova or Delaware on Sunday in the South Region w — hile preventing another March run by the Ramblers (25-8), which shot 27-percent (15 of 56) from the floor. “We knew we were in for a rock fight, and that’s very much what it was,” Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann said, calling it “the best defensive performance we’ve really had in a couple years.” Certainly, it’s the best the Ramblers have...
CHICAGO -- Loyola Chicago is out in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament after losing to Ohio State on Friday. This is a developing story and will be updated. After a couple of first-day shockers, Day 2 of the NCAA Tournament's first round features a dangerous double-digit seed with Loyola-Chicago matched against an Ohio State team that surely hasn't forgotten its overtime loss to a No. 15 Oral Roberts in last year's tournament opener. The seventh-seeded Buckeyes are not trending in a good direction, coming in with losses in four of their last five. A couple of those were stinkers, too - one at home against Nebraska and one to Penn State in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.No. 10 seed Loyola is a program that knows how to win this time of year, and it never hurts to have Sister Jean on your side. Yes, the 102-year-old superfan and team chaplain traveled to Pittsburgh with the Ramblers. This is the third tournament appearance in five years for Loyola. There was the Final Four run in 2018, and last year the...
