Praise for the United States men's national team continued to trickle through the soccer media after the team's 0-0 draw with a more talented England squad. Gregg Berhalter's team clinched a point against one of the tournament's favorites, England, after shutting out The Three Lions in a goalless stalemate at the World Cup in Qatar on Black Friday.  The USA impressed against the Three Lions and arguably had the better chances with Christian Pulisic smashing a strike against the crossbar in a gripping affair at the Qatar World Cup. Maybe it is called 'soccer' after all. The United States national soccer team has stunned the England national football team by playing to a 0-0 first-half draw in Group B play at the World Cup in Qatar on Friday. The US had several chances to take the lead over the first 45 minutes of play, including a Christian Pulisic shot from the box that ricocheted off the cross bar and a Weston McKennie that missed the goal entirely. Likewise, England has had its own chances, including an early opportunity that English captain Harry Kane failed to convert in the 10th minute. Sounds like Dak Prescott wanted an opponent that would allow him to get back in a groove in his return from injury. The Lions could do just that. There’s something to be said about challenging yourself to do hard things, but when the easy option is right there, why not give that a go? As Dallas Cowboys quareterback Dak Prescott comes back from injury, it seems like he was looking for an easy game to get back in a groove and find his footing again. According to a report from ESPN’s Ed Werder, Prescott specifically chose the Detroit Lions to return against after missing the last 5 games due to injury. As Werder points out, he’s performed well against Detroit. Prescott is 3-0 against them with eight touchdowns and no interceptions across three games. He has a QBR of 126.2 vs Detroit. That has to be some extra motivation for the 1-4 Lions to hear that a recently-injured quarterback wants to get his first reps back in a game against you. It’s almost as if Dak is viewing this as...

For those Chicago Bears fans hanging on through this 3-7 season because they at least can watch rookie quarterback Justin Fields’ growth, Sunday’s 16-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens was like taking a helmet to the gut. Fields missed most of the second half at Soldier Field after suffering injured ribs, and his status is in question for Thursday’s game against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. Bears coach Matt Nagy was typically evasive with his answers about Fields’ injury after the game. He said he didn’t know if Fields’ ribs are broken, whether the injury happened on one play or was a result of several hits or if there is a chance Fields could recover in time for the Thanksgiving game. “We’ve just got to see where Justin is at,” Nagy said. “When you’re talking about ribs, you’ve got to find out how much it affects him. We as a staff have to talk through all that.” Fields’ friend Simeon Kelley posted an Instagram video of Fields lying down after the game and said...

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State has already won big games in marquee environments, using big plays and a stingy defense to do so. None of the No. 4 Nittany Lions’ victories has left the team’s biggest players satisfied, however. The 300-pounders up front are eager to get another shot when Indiana (2-2, 0-1 Big Ten) visits Beaver Stadium on Saturday night. “We focused on our mission for this week, which is physicality,” right tackle Caedan Wallace said. “It’s collective, the front seven and the running backs. We’re going to improve this week. We’re going to run the ball.” The Nittany Lions (4-0, 1-0) know a run to their first College Football Playoff appearance won’t be possible unless they can. Even with a 48-carry, 240-yard effort against Ball State, the Nittany Lions are ranked 111th in rushing offense so far. While they’ve settled in with a strong starting five — tackles Wallace and Rasheed Walker, guards Juice Scruggs and Eric Wilson centered by Mike Miranda — the group hasn’t yet played with the mindset that position coach Phil Trautwein...
Their league debut in San Mamés could have been better for Athletic. Premiere that 10,500 souls turned in that the game of the return of the fans to the field ended with a victory. Iñigo Martínez’s goal as soon as the second half started seemed to point in that direction, but the brutal emergence of Memphis, one of Barça’s new offensive references in the post-Messi era, put an end to Bilbao’s enthusiastic proposal. Marcelino does not like draws. Well, two days of the League and as many tables. The problems are almost always the same. The lions do not take advantage of all the clear and good occasions that they generate. The passing of the minutes, without sufficient advantage on the scoreboard, leads them little by little to retreat. Barça, at such a juncture, has enough arguments to make a point at the first exchange. Athletic penalizes him, above all, his lack of goal. Looking at the opportunities generated last night, finishing with just one goal sounds like a joke. We will have to keep trying. -One change- Marcelino...
