Meatless burger maker Impossible Foods has sued competitor Motif Foodworks, accusing the startup of copying its technology for imitating the taste of real meat. The lawsuit filed in Delaware federal court alleges that Motif, a spinoff of biotech company Ginkgo Bioworks, infringes an Impossible Foods patent by using a protein molecule called heme in its plant-based beef. Impossible's lawsuit said heme is a 'central component of meat's appeal,' and Impossible incorporates the protein in its plant-based burger to replicate meat's taste, smell, and 'overall sensory experience.'  A Motif spokesperson told DailyMail.com that the lawsuit is 'a legally and factually baseless attempt to stifle innovation and limit consumer choice' and vowed the company would fight the claims. Who says a hamburger can’t be healthy? Certainly not Grill’d, an Australian restaurant chain specializing in “healthy” burgers. To meet a growing demand, the brand has just launched a brand new concept of healthy, sustainable and vegan restaurant called “Impossibly Grill’d”. Two establishments have already opened in Sydney where they will serve a vegan menu, including 23 100% vegetable options. Photo: Grill’d On site, customers can enjoy different ranges of burgers, all vegan. In particular, there will be burgers with steaks of the Impossible brand, but also burgers with vegetable “chicken”, designed on the basis of plantain. Finally, Australians will discover a mushroom-based burger created by British chef Heston Blumenthal, a specialist in molecular cuisine. The latter had made himself known to the French public during his stint in the last season of Top Chef, in 2021. The two new “Impossibly Grill’d” restaurants are aimed at a wide audience: vegetarian, vegan or omnivore wishing to do without meat. The chain will also reintroduce “meat-free Mondays” across all of its 142 Australian locations. See also  Sonu Sood had a plan...

McDonald’s has decided to increase the number of locations that are sporting the new McPlant burger on the menus. They are adding the meatless menu item to 600 other locations in the San Francisco Bay and Dallas-Ft. Worth areas. The McPlant burgers will only be available for a limited time while the supply lasts.  The vegan burger was first launched in 2021 in eight locations for testing and received a huge amount of support. This encouraged the fast-food giant to expand this burger to offer it across hundreds of other locations. The company stated, “McDonald’s USA is expanding the test to select restaurants in your area to help us understand customer demand.” This change came as the fast-food giant‘s competitors began adding plant-based items to their menus and seeing great success with the venture as more people are looking for vegan alternatives. It is important to note that not all fast-food restaurants are offering completely vegan options, however. Some are still cooking the plant-based menu items alongside meat and dairy items, causing cross-contamination that some vegans would not...

VEGAN food may not be so healthy, after all. Burger King served a Veganuary treat this week as it launched vegan nuggets. But while plant-based food is proven to help sex and cardiac health, and is often less fatty, it can contain more sugar and salt – raising blood pressure. Israeli food-tech firm SavorEat has launched a personalized 3D printing system for their vegan burger patties. They are one of the first companies to use a 3D printing system for food to cook immediately after, as most vegan meats are made ahead and frozen to be cooked later. The patties are made primarily from a combination of potato, chickpea, and pea protein. The printing method allows each customer to get a personalized vegan burger patty with however much fat and protein they want. SavorEat has already released whole cuts of vegan meat into European restaurants and has big plans to expand to the US. Racheli Vizman, SavorEat’s chief executive, said, “There is a growing segment of people called ‘flexitarian’, people that are actively trying to look for meat alternatives to reduce their meat consumption.” This new technology is a unique innovation to the plant-based meat market, making plant-based meat alternatives even more exciting. Hopefully, this new technology will encourage those who aren’t vegan to give this realistic substitute a try for themselves. Make your own vegan burger...

And showed why the Knicks were so desperate to get him that they met with his father before 2019 free agency to try to convince him to sign. But the Nets won the day two years ago this month, when they landed Durant, Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan in free agency. And thanks to Durant, they came into Thursday’s Game 6 just a win away from being in the conference final. “He’s the reason we won,” Jeff Green said. “He put us on his back and he carried us.” The seeds for that Game 5 victory were sown 2...

HIGH street stores are flogging vegan versions of their meaty favourites that contain more than DOUBLE the amount of salt. M&S’s Plant Kitchen no-chicken kievs have 2.4g of salt — almost half the recommended 6g daily allowance — while its own-brand chicken kievs work out at 1.05g each. 5Supermarkets' vegan 'meat' products have DOUBLE the amount of saltCredit: Alamy Nutrition and fitness expert Sheree Cox said: “You have to be aware of the salt content in vegan products, which are often perceived to be healthier. “Some vegan products contain a lot more salt than meat alternatives, which will be a surprise to many. “Shoppers need to check they are not eating more than the 6g daily recommended salt allowance for an adult.” It comes as more than seven million people said they would go vegan for Veganuary this month. Also at M&S, the Plant Kitchen no-beef burger with 1.18g of salt per 100g has double the salt content of M&S organic British beef burgers with 0.58g salt per 100g. Aisha "Pinky" Cole, 32, is referring to Slutty Vegan, her plant-based burger joint out of Atlanta that, in two years, has gone from being a late-night snack she craved to a viral sensation that keeps lines wrapped around either its bright yellow food truck or one of her two standing locations. Slutty Vegan's menu consists of offerings like the bacon-topped One Night Stand, Jamaican-inspired Dancehall Queen, the buffalo-flavored Chik'n Head and its take on the Philly cheesesteak, the Hollywood Hooker. Georgia Sen. David Perdue’s campaign mocked his runoff opponent Jon Ossoff for eating a vegan burger Saturday — posting a photo of the Republican with a plate of bacon. During a tour to support small businesses Saturday, the 33-year-old Democrat ordered from the plant-based burger joint “The Slutty Vegan” in Atlanta, CNN Politics reporter DJ Judd tweeted. “We got Jon Jon running for Senate in the building!” one worker shouted, according to the post. LIVE UPDATES: PERDUE SAYS OSSOFF 'CAN'T STOP LYING' AHEAD OF GEORGIA SENATE RUNOFF But Perdue’s campaign quickly took to Twitter to troll Ossoff, posting a photo of the 70-year-old Republican next to a hearty breakfast spread of bacon and waffles. “@ossoff can have the plant burger, we’ll take the all-star special. Pick your side, Georgia,” the tweet declares, apparently referencing a Waffle House breakfast item. Ossoff’s veggie-centric visit also sparked criticism from die-hard carnivores, who said his diet is proof he won’t be a strong leader. “Beta,” one Twitter user bashed, as another called the food choice “embarrassing.” RNC RAMPS UP STAFFING, VOLUNTEERS IN GEORGIA, VOWS TO SPEND AT LEAST $20M AHEAD OF...

Just because something tastes like cheese, that doesn’t mean it necessarily belongs on (or in) a cheeseburger. Over the years, aspiring chefs have presented some strange dishes to Gordon Ramsay. Even after all this time, however, he apparently still hasn’t seen everything. @gordonramsayofficial ##duet with @cheesedaily how to ruin a ##burger !! ##ramsayreacts ##fyp ##tiktokcooks ♬ paparazzi - Nick&Sienna???? The famous chef uses his TikTok channel to react to other chef’s cooking videos. While most of his posts feature him criticizing someone for not searing a steak properly or for over or under seasoning a cut of meat, he recently posted a different type of criticism. Reacting to a video originally posted by Cheese Daily, Ramsay watches as a cook prepares a burger stuffed with Cheetos and cheese. The footage starts off by showing a cook placing several Cheetos on a single burger. ACAI SHOP'S ODDLY-PLACED BATHROOM MIRROR SPARKS FEARS ON TIKTOK THAT BATHROOM-GOERS ARE BEING SPIED ON “Oh dear, no. Cheetos on a burger? The marriage of two classic hand-held foods from two different cultures yielded nearly 150 five-star reviews on Yelp for a Long Island eatery.  "Burgrito's," both the name of the food in question and the restaurant that sells it, has served customers who can't decide between American or Mexican cuisine at their Central Avenue location in Bethpage since 2015.  A burgrito is made with beef patties, American cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and onions and wrapped in a flour tortilla to technically qualify as a burrito. "The burgrito is like a meat Christmas in your mouth, a tantalizing combination of a burger and burrito that will leave you craving more," said Manhattanite Danny B. on Yelp. "They offer hearty portions, service with a smile and have a clean dining area with ample seating. If you're in the mood for an ingenious food mashup definitely check Burgrito's out and get their signature burgrito!" Owners Darin and Lawrence Laby, according to Burgrito's website, developed the gut-busting recipe during the winter of 2014. Meat-lover Darin handled the experimentation while vegetarian Lawrence created a vegan version...
By Philip Blenkinsop BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Restaurants and shops in the European Union could be barred from marketing products as "veggie burgers" or "vegan sausage" if farmers get their way in a debate this week in the European parliament. Proposed amendments to a farming bill would also prohibit describing non-dairy items as being "like" or in the "style" of milk, butter or cheese. Farmers say the measures are needed to protect consumers from being misled. Medical groups, environmentalists and companies that make vegetarian products say it would be a step backwards in meeting the bloc's environmental and health goals. The amendments will be discussed during debate of wider agricultural reforms. The European Parliament cannot impose the changes on its own, but would adopt a position ahead of negotiations with the bloc's member countries. Under one proposed amendment, terms such as steak, sausage, escalope, burger and hamburger would be permitted only for products containing meat. The European Court of Justice already banned the likes of "soy milk" and "vegan cheese" three years ago, ruling terms such as milk, cream, butter, cheese...
Ah, the cheeseburger. So many happy memories of barbeques, birthday parties, and getting lost in the play area at McDonald’s. As more and more people go without animal products, they want the comfort of the food they knew and loved before. This means that vegan burgers are popping up in places you’d never expect. The rise of the impossible burger has given even the most staunch carnivores reason to stray. And they’re loving it! But with all the emphasis on the traditional burger, The vegan cheeseburger remains somewhat of an elusive vegan treat. It has the momentous job of mimicking not one, but two animal flavors, all the while trying to set itself apart from the original. We’ve put together this list of insanely delicious cheeseburgers to make right in the comfort of your own kitchen. More evidence for a plant-based diet! A TikTok user recently showed a McDonald‘s hamburger and French fries that have allegedly been sitting in a closet since 1996. The worst part? It hasn’t decomposed. TikTok-er Aly Sherb shared a video of her grandmother sharing a box that is labeled “hamburger.” Her grandmother said she purchased the burger and fries in 1996. Sherb’s grandmother shows off the contents of the box and the result is a bit stomach-turning. See the video, below: @aly.sherb Make this go viral, y’all #grandparentsoftiktok #mcdonalds #fyp #decadechallenge #foryou #happymeal ♬ original sound – aly.sherb It’s unclear which burger she actually ordered, but the burger and bun are intact in the bag, neither shows signs of rotting or decay. And the fries look like they’ve just been sitting in the car for a little while. The video ends with her saying, “24-year-old hamburger, not sure what would happen if you ate it though.” This video shows more evidence that McDonald’s isn’t actually food, but a complex combination of heavily-processed ingredients. Healthy food rots or...
Last week, Burger King announced its launch of plant-based chicken nuggets in Germany. In partnership with The Vegetarian Butcher, the crispy plant-based nuggets will be available starting September 1 in select locations throughout Germany. The launch was in reaction to “the trend towards conscious nutrition and a growing number of guests who are increasingly relying on plant-based products” as reported by Plant Based News. Over the past few years, Germany has become a leader in the plant-based industry. Research from Mintel found that Germany has the highest percentage of global vegan food and drink launches, accounting for 15% of global vegan introductions between July 2017 and June 2018. Burger King joined the plant-based burger wave after releasing its Impossible Whopper in the U.S. last year. The Impossible Whopper boosted sales at Burger King, resulting in the strongest growth for the company since 2015. The Rebel Whopper, Burger’s King European plant-based burger, was released in 25 European countries last year as well. Unilever’s The Vegetarian Butcher supplied the plant-based patties. After the sweeping success of plant-based burgers, plant-based chicken...
