NOTHING screams Christmas like a novelty jumper and glittery red nails. Antonia replied: "You can find some beautiful ones and I’d say they are elegant...if worn for the appropriate occasion. "For example, activities in harsh weather." FABULOUS BINGO:...

If you’re already stressing over finding the perfect holiday tree, you’ve got plenty of options. You can schlep your family to the nearest tree farm, spend an hour or so hunting for the “perfect” evergreen, haul it home, set it up, and then spend 30 minutes cleaning up all the pine needles that have been lovingly scattered all over your place—all before starting the whole decorating process even begins. Of course, regular watering and needle sweeping is required too. Or, you can order an artificial Christmas tree, set it up, and get on with your holiday season—and your life. Of course, whichever route you choose to go this holiday season is entirely up to you, but it’s given the convenience (and zero allergy potential) posed by artificial Christmas trees, it’s understandable why a growing number of people are choosing to skip the annual trip to the farm and get a fake alternative that’ll last forever instead. Plus, allergy-proof artificial Christmas trees often...

New York (CNN Business)This year marks the 25th anniversary of Starbucks' holiday cups, an annual tradition that unofficially rings in the season for the chain's fervent fans.Beginning Thursday, customers will have their hot drinks served in one of four new festive cups with designs that "offer the comforts and cheer of the season," according to a press release. This year's mostly red-and-green cups are inspired by traditional holiday motifs, including wrapping paper, frosted sparkles, ornaments and snow-covered trees. "We have always talked about the cups as little gifts, and we hope they feel like a festive present to our customers and store partners," Gary Jacobson, Starbucks creative director for this year's holiday cups, said in a press release. Here are this year's designs.Thursday also marks the arrival of Starbucks' holiday menu. Stubbornly high inflation is casting a pall over the holiday season — two thirds of Americans will watch their wallets when shopping and millions will spend less on booze, groceries, and gifts this year, a series of studies show. Polling by Morning Consult shows that 64 percent of adults will be more careful when shopping for gifts this year, and 82 percent will stock up in Black Friday sales and scour for other discounts. The survey of 2,210 adults earlier this month also found that 44 percent would cut back on travel this holiday season while also spending less on alcohol (41 percent), gifts (32 percent) partying (26 percent) and groceries (24 percent). Consumer prices rose by a higher-than-expected 8.3 percent in the year to August, the Labor Department said on Tuesday. Though gas prices have fallen from record highs, Americans are spending ever-more on rent and food. Of particular concern are soaring prices at grocery stores, which have jumped 13.5 percent this past year, pushing up costs of pantry basics like flour, eggs, butter and the classic Thanksgiving dish...
While most Britons spent Christmas embroiled in a battle to avoid the omicron variant from ruining their festive plans, the crème de la crème of society had no such trouble. Sharing a glimpse at how the other half live on Instagram, Princess Maria-Olympia, 25, and her family spent Christmas in an exclusive hotel enjoying snowy St Moritz, while Prince Charles' goddaughter India Hicks, 54, threw a lavish al fresco Christmas lunch in the sunny Bahamas. And across the pond at the Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire, the Duke and Duchess of Rutland and the Manners children quaffed champagne by the roaring fireplace before embarking on a banquet in their grand dining room. Elsewhere Princess Maria Chiara of Bourbon Two Sicilies, 16, racked up the likes with a glitzy photoshoot in Italy, while the Duchess of Cambridge's brother James Middleton, 34, kept it simple by posing in front a pine tree with his beloved dog Ella. Kicking off the socialite posts, Alice Manners, 26, joined her siblings Eliza, Charles, Hugo and  Violet, and their parents the Duke and Duchess of Rutland, for a...
A mother has penned an emotional letter to the organ donor who gave her 'the best gift ever' of a heart transplant just days before Christmas 2020 - to enable her to enjoy her first festivities with her new baby this year. Nicolette Somers, 30, from Detroit, Michigan, was diagnosed with peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) - a rare form of congestive heart failure associated with pregnancy - in October 2020, three months after her son Beckett, now one, was born. Although doctors initially hoped they'd be able to treat Nicolette for the condition, she was eventually told she would need a heart transplant - or she would risk missing her newborn son grow up. She was told the wait for a new heart could take up to 11 months - but received a call nine days later to say there was a donor heart ready for her and underwent the life-saving transplant on December 20 2020, before spending the next three weeks in recovery. The mother-of-one missed her son's first Christmas while in hospital but says that videos of him opening his...
Last Christmas, Waheed Sabawoon and his family were hiding in the darkened rooms of their mud-walled house overlooking Kabul, fearing the next knock at the door would be the Taliban. ‘It was a time of bombs and fear where the threat of revenge attacks hung over us and we wondered each time we left home if we would return,’ the former interpreter recalls. Long before the Taliban overthrew the Afghan government in August, cells of fighters had been carrying out targeted assassinations of locals who had helped the West during the war. ‘There was uncertainty and real fear. England was a dream to hang on to – it represented hope for me and my family, and for all of us who risked our lives beside British soldiers. We feared that it might never be a reality, but we needed that dream to keep going,’ he says. Princess Charlene of Monaco has shared a sketched Christmas portrait of her family and 'wished everyone a beautiful and safe festive season' as she remains in a treatment facility. The former Olympian, 43, took to Instagram today to share her festive greeting with her followers, posting a colourful piece of artwork depicting herself in a golden gown when standing next to Prince Albert. Her husband appears equally charming in the drawing, sporting a navy suit with a light blue tie, while seven-year-old twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella don all their finery for the image. With the family posing next to an elaborately-decorated Christmas tree in the artwork, Charlene captioned the design: 'Wishing everyone a beautiful and safe festive season, all my love.' Prince Albert revealed last month his wife had been admitted to a European treatment facility within days of her return to Monaco following a 10-month absence in her native South Africa.  He said she is suffering from 'exhaustion, both emotional and physical', while friends recently told Page Six that the mother-of-two 'almost died' while she was in her home country. ...

THE ROYAL family will not let the Queen spend her first christmas without Prince Philip alone, an expert has claimed. The monarch, 95, has suffered from bouts of illness recently and has been forced to scrap her traditional trip to Sandringham, Norfolk, as the UK battles rapidly rising cases of the Omicron variant. 3This Christmas will be the Queen's first Christmas without Prince PhilipCredit: Pacemaker 3An expert has said the Royal family won't let her go alone this ChristmasCredit: Getty Last year the Queen spent the festive period shielding at Windsor Castle with her late husband Prince Philip. But instead, the monarch will stay at Windsor Castle for the second year running. PREMIER LEAGUE matches WILL go ahead after Christmas after the festive circuit breaker WAS NOT voted through. The 20 clubs' executives met on Monday to discuss whether or not to halt the season due to a rise in Covid cases. 1Thomas Tuchel wanted Chelsea's game against Wolves last Sunday postponedCredit: Getty Omicron continues to cause chaos across the country. And while the government have not brought in a lockdown at this stage, the Premier League took the initiative by calling emergency talks. It needed 14 of the 20 clubs to approve the break, which would see a round of fixtures postponed. After the League Cup quarter-finals this midweek, the next set of Premier League games were scheduled for December 26-27. There is also a full fixture list for December 28-30 and another for January 1-3 before the FA Cup third round on the following weekend. This weekend, six of the ten Premier League matches were cancelled. Manchester United, Leicester and Aston Villa were among the clubs to suffer Covid outbreaks within their squads. Chelsea and Liverpool both had players forced...
FOOTY chiefs are reportedly set to make this season’s Carabao Cup semi-finals just one-legged ties in a bid to ease fixture congestion caused by Covid. Numerous teams have had games postponed over the last week after a fresh coronavirus outbreak in the UK. 1The Carabao Cup semis could be turned into one-legged ties to ease the fixture pile-upCredit: The Sun The likes of Tottenham, Leicester and Brentford have all been affected, meaning they will have to squeeze in axed games at some stage later this season. But with the trio among those set to play in next week’s Carabao quarters, the Telegraph claims 2022’s semi-finals could be changed from two-legged ties to just the one. That would free up an extra match slot, which could then be used by teams to fulfil any outstanding Premier League obligations. And there won’t be any mysteries surrounding the changes either, with footy chiefs used the same formula to ease pressure on squads last season.  Currently, the first legs for the semi-finals are set for January 3. But the eight remaining sides must first...
The Queen could be without some of her nearest and dearest this Christmas if her plans to spend the festive season at Sandringham are cancelled. After her ‘regretful’ decision to scrap next week’s traditional pre-Christmas dinner for up to 50 family members due to soaring Covid cases, sources told the Daily Mail yesterday that ‘all plans were under consideration’ – including her annual trip to Norfolk. It means that the 95-year-old – spending her first Yuletide without her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip – could spend a second festive season at Windsor Castle.  But the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children still intend to travel to their Norfolk home for the holidays, and their plans are unlikely to change – meaning the Queen may not be able to join them as planned.  A final decision is expected to be made early next week as royal aides anxiously monitor government advice. The Queen is still keen to go to her beloved 20,000-acre estate at Sandringham, where she normally stays until early February – particularly as she spent...

PREM chiefs will call a summit meeting of clubs for Monday - when they intend to confirm the Festive football programme is ON. Club chiefs will be invited to Monday’s virtual gathering later today as Prem chief executive Richard Masters works overtime to keep the show on the road. Masters and other senior League bosses hope the “emergency measures” brought into operation over the past seven days - including daily lateral flow tests as a condition of entry to training grounds - can stem the fixtures bleeding. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not be returning to the UK for Christmas despite being invited to join the rest of the royal family at Sandringham, sources have claimed.  The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are currently living in a $14million mansion in California, are also expected to miss the Queen's annual Christmas lunch for her extended family, which is usually held at Buckingham Palace.  The lunch is expected to be held at Windsor Castle this year, as the Queen continues to recuperate from a bad back which forced her to miss the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph.  It's thought that Harry and Meghan turned down the invite because they want to avoid the media coverage that would follow a visit to the UK.  A royal source told Page Six: 'There's a lot that goes into the logistics and the planning of the family Christmas, so of course, staff know that Harry and Meghan are not coming. If they were, they would have communicated it to their family by now. 'But this is Her Majesty's first Christmas without...
London (CNN Business)Heading into the all-important holiday shopping season, investors have been nursing a big concern: Will supply chain issues lead to empty shelves, making it impossible for retailers to take advantage of huge demand for toys, appliances and other items as the economy recovers from the pandemic? The answer appears to be no — at least if you're a massive company like Walmart (WMT) or Home Depot. What's happening: Large retail chains have chartered their own ships to deliver goods from Asia, stocked up on extra merchandise and relied on their deep pockets and broad catalogue of suppliers to ease the bottlenecks. Thanksgiving essentials are out of stockThe strategy appears to be working. Walmart just reported that in the three months through October, sales at US stores open for at least a year increased 9.2% over the same period in 2020. The company boosted its full-year sales guidance. Home Depot (HD) said that same-store sales rose more than 6% globally and 5.5% in the United States. "We took a lot of steps early in the year to try to get ahead...
If you're already stressing over finding the perfect holiday tree, you've got plenty of options. Of course, there’s regular watering and needle sweeping you’ll need to stay on top of after all that, too. Or, you can just order an artificial Christmas tree, set it up, and get on with your holiday season—and your life. Of course, whichever route you choose to go this holiday season is entirely up to you, but it’s given the convenience (and zero allergy potential) posed by artificial Christmas trees, it's understandable why a growing number of people are choosing to skip the annual trip to the farm and get a fake alternative that'll last forever instead. Plus, allergy-proof artificial Christmas trees often look way more realistic than the real...

Disney has launched its 2021 Christmas advert, telling the heartwarming story of a step-father navigating his first festive season with his partner and her children. Taking centre stage in the production is a precious storybook filled with Disney and Pixar characters which belongs to Max from his birth father - and Mike is eventually able to ‘lift’ the magic of the tales from the pages as he’s accepted by the children. The three-minute ad - released today - includes an original charity track Love Runs Deeper, performed by two-time Grammy Award-winning American jazz musician Gregory Porter. This year’s instalment forms part of the brand’s festive retail campaign, ‘From Our Family To Yours’, in support of children's charity Make-A-Wish. That’s what I plan on doing. “It’s one of my favorite holidays, if not the favorite,” he added. Newton does have a gift for Bill Belichick, though he didn’t want to...
