Facebook has reversed a decision to ban advertising of a Holocaust film entitled Beautiful Blue Eyes - having initially argued that the title violated their policy on racially-offensive names. The title refers to the eye color of a child who died at the hands of the Nazis, and invokes a key scene in the movie.  Yet Facebook in early September banned the showing of the trailer on their site, saying it ran contrary to their policy against content that 'includes direct or indirect assertions or implications about a person's race,' among other personal attributes. It is still unclear how the film's title violated the race policy, given that blue eyes are not exclusive to only one race.  The film's director accused Facebook of 'alarming' censorship that should worry 'every decent and sane human being on this planet'. On Friday, Facebook's parent company Meta told Ars Technica that the Facebook owner reviewed the case and decided to reverse the ban. It is unclear whether that meant Zuckerberg himself got involved. 'We reviewed the ads and page in question and determined that the enforcement...
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A California panel on Friday denied parole for a follower of cult leader Charles Manson convicted of slayings more than a half-century ago. Bruce Davis was previously recommended for parole seven times, but those findings were rejected by three consecutive governors. Parole commissioners told the 79-year-old Davis to try again in three years. Davis has said he helped kill musician Gary Hinman and stuntman Donald “Shorty” Shea in 1969. He previously said he cut Shea with a knife and held a gun while Manson cut Hinman’s face with a sword. “I wanted to be Charlie’s favorite guy,” he said during a 2014 parole hearing. Afterward, other followers wrote “political piggy” on the wall of Hinman’s home in his own blood. Despite being a fierce defender of abortion this week, Biden was actually against abortion not that long ago. A resurfaced video of Biden staunchly opposed to unfettered abortion access went viral this week. In March 2006, Biden gave an interview to Texas Monthly – where he said abortion is "always a tragedy" and is not a right. "I do not view abortion as a choice or a right," Biden said. "I think it's always a tragedy, and I think that it should be rare and safe." "And I think we should be focusing on how to limit the number of abortions. And there ought to be able to have a common ground and consensus as to do that," said Biden – who was a Democratic senator for Delaware at the time of his comments. Biden added, "I'm a little bit of an odd man out in my party. I do not vote for funding for abortion. I voted against partial birth abortion—to limit it—and I vote for no restrictions on a woman's right to be able...

Former President Donald Trump explained on Saturday his endorsement of J.D. Vance in Ohio’s Senate race despite the fact he previously “said some bad shit” about Trump. “He’s a guy that said some bad shit about me, he did,” Trump said as he reintroduced Vance during a rally in Ohio. “But you know what? Every one of the others did.” “In fact, if I went by that standard, I don’t think I would have ever endorsed anybody in the country,” Trump continued, adding that while they all said bad things, “they all came back.” The venture capitalist and “Hillbilly Elegy” author called himself in a 2016 interview “a Never Trump guy,” wrote of Trump in a 2016 tweet, “My god what an idiot,” and said his policy proposals “range from immoral to absurd.” GOP officials in the state urged Trump not to back Vance based on his past comments, writing in a letter that “an endorsement that cuts against your support and legacy in Ohio will only serve to confuse or upset voters.” However, last Friday, Vance earned the coveted endorsement, though Trump...

The Republican party blasted President Joe Biden on Twitter Monday after he said 'there is no federal solution' to combatting COVID-19. The GOP, citing a comment Biden made in October 2020, released a tweet implying the president flip-flopped on his commitment to battling the pandemic. 'BIDEN, TODAY: 'There is no federal solution' to COVID,' the Republican National Committee wrote, including footage of the president from Monday's meeting with 25 governors.  'BIDEN, 2020: 'I'm going to shut down the virus.'    However, Biden's supporters rushed to his defense, alleging the Republicans took his remarks out of context. 'This deceptively-edited clip put out by the RNC and several GOP Members of Congress of Biden today creates the false impression that Biden is giving up on battling COVID,' defense attorney Ron Filipkowski said. 'This is a total lie'. Filipkowski claimed the now-viral clip of Biden was 'a total lie' and edited to suggest he is 'quitting on dealing with COVID and just throwing it to the states.'   The Republican party blasted President Joe Biden on Twitter Monday after he said 'there is no federal solution' to...

Julianne Malveaux, the incoming dean of Cal State University Los Angeles' newly created College of Ethnic Studies, has previously said she hopes 73-year-old, conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas dies an early death.  "I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early, like many black men do, of heart disease," Malveux said during an appearance on PBS in 1994, according to the Wall Street Journal. WILL CAIN DISMANTLES CRITICAL RACE THEORY: ‘THE LUNATIC RACIST LEFT IS STARTING TO LOSE’ Malveux issued an apology for the remark in 2011, clarifying that her comment was a "wisecrack" misconstrued as hate speech after Thomas said he would live to 120 to stay on the court to "frustrate liberals." "I replied that the average black man had a life expectancy of about 65, and that if his wife fed him lots of butter and eggs (if her recent call to Anita Hill is any indication she isn’t cooking much these days), ingredients for high cholesterol and heart trouble, he’d die an early death," she explained. A new study reveals human eye color is much more complex than previously believed. A group of international scientists have identified 50 new genes that play a role in eye color following the genetic analysis of nearly 195,000 people in Europe and Asia. It was previously said that shades were controlled by one or two genes, with brown eyes typically dominating blue. The team also discovered 1,636 Asian participants with different shades of brown eyes had iris pigmentation variations similar to Europeans who have a wider range from dark brown to light blue. 'Our study outcomes demonstrate that the genetic complexity of human eye color considerably exceeds previous knowledge and expectations, highlighting eye color as a genetically highly complex human trait,' reads the study published in Science Advances. The Texas lawyer who went viral with his Zoom kitten filter this week was previously at the center of a search warrant and drugs raid on a smoke shop belonging to a woman who says she was his former lover. Attorney Rod Ponton, 69, was involved in a 2014 raid on The Purple Zone, a hookah bar and smoke shop in Alpine, Texas, when he was working as District Attorney of Brewster County.  The shop's owner Ilana Lipsen, as well as her mom and sister, was arrested on charges around the possession of illegal synthetic marijuana in the raid where her sister and a DEA agent both accused each other of assault. Lipsen pleaded guilty to first-degree felony manufacturing and possession of a controlled substance over products seized in a 2012 raid in exchange for the 2014 charges being dropped against her family. However, the case and charges were mired in controversy as testing on the products showed the chemicals weren't actually illegal in Texas at the time. The shop owner claims she was harassed by Ponton because she had a one-night stand with...
The dwarf galaxy known as Tuscana II is now believed to have a vast halo of dark matter that is much larger than scientists previously estimated. MIT astrophysicists detected stars on the edge of Tuscana II, which sits 163,000 light years from Earth, in a configuration that is far from the center. Because the stars are trapped in the tiny galaxy's gravitational pull, scientists speculate dark matter is what's keeping them there. Dark matter is a hypothetical type of matter that is thought to make up more than 85 percent of the universe, and every galaxy is thought to be held together by a local concentration, or halo, of dark matter. This is the first sign that Tuscana II, which is one of the first galaxies in the universe, hosts an extended dark matter halo – and experts speculated it is three to five times more massive than believed. The family of a 19-year-old soldier found dead in Fort Bliss, Texas last week said she had been sexually assaulted by another soldier a year before her death and was "ready to fight" for justice in her case. The father of Asia Graham told WCNC-TV the Cherryville, N.C., native had been sexually assaulted by another soldier in December 2019, the same month she arrived at the El Paso military installation upon completing Basic Combat Training in Missouri and Advanced Individual Training in South Carolina. The alleged assault was reported but Graham's family felt the Army failed to help and protect her. Her brother, Andrew Koenigsfeld, said his sister wanted to get justice.  "She was ready to fight," Koenigsfeld said. "Then that got taken away." Graham was a private first class assigned to the 1st Armored Division as a human resource specialist. She was found unresponsive in her room on New Year's Eve and later pronounced dead by the Fort Bliss Department of Emergency Services staff. The Army said foul play is not suspected, though autopsy and toxicology results are still pending. An investigation is ongoing. It was not clear if...
Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell in 2005. Joe Schildhorn/Patrick McMullan via Getty Images In a federal court filing on Monday, lawyers for Ghislaine Maxwell — the multimillionaire, jet-setting longtime associate of the now-dead sex offender Jeffrey Epstein — argued that Maxwell should be released on bail. She'd never try to flee the United States, they said, because Maxwell is in a loving relationship with her husband and would never turn his back on him. "She will not risk destroying the lives and financial well-being of those she holds most dear to live as a fugitive during a worldwide pandemic," the lawyers wrote. But earlier this year, prosecutors say, Maxwell told government officials she was "in the process of divorcing her husband." The revelation comes from a new court document filed on Friday afternoon arguing against Maxwell's bail application. Maxwell was arrested in July and charged with various crimes related to accusations that she recruited and groomed several girls for Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse, sexually abused them herself, and lied about it in a deposition. The judge overseeing the...

Savannah Rychcik September 4, 2020 0 Comments Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is coming to President Donald Trump’s defense after The Atlantic released a report that alleges he previously called fallen soldiers “losers” and “suckers.” Appearing on Fox News on Friday, Pompeo claimed he was on the same trip as Trump when he was scheduled to visit the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018. According to The Atlantic, Trump blamed the weather for the decision to cancel the trip. He also said “the helicopter couldn’t fly” and the Secret Service was not willing to drive him there. Trump reportedly said, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” On the same trip, Trump called the more than 1,800 marines who died at Belleau Wood “suckers,” the publication reported. Pompeo denied Trump ever made these comments. “I’ve never heard the president use the language that assertively is said in that article about him calling the military ‘suckers’ and ‘losers,'” Pompeo said. He added, “He has always had the deepest respect. I’m...
New details in the harrowing police killing of George Floyd have been revealed after a court unsealed police bodycam footage of the incident. The new footage, from cameras worn by officers Thomas Lane and Alexander Kueng, showed white officer Derek Chauvin’s knee on Floyd’s neck for nine and a half minutes – a minute longer than previously estimated. Floyd gasped for breath and said 'please' more than 50 times in his interaction with officers, according to MPR News. At one point in the clip Lane asks multiple times if they should roll Floyd on his side as he pleaded for air. Chauvin is heard saying 'just leave him'.  Nothing in the footage captured by cameras suggests Floyd acted aggressively or threateningly with officers. A Hennepin County Judge allowed members of the public and journalists to view the video evidence in person on Wednesday but they were not allowed to record it. The judge ruled news organizations cannot publish it.  New bodycam footage from the death of George Floyd was unsealed on Wednesday and shows white cop Derek Chauvin had...
A man accused in a terror-related stabbing spree that killed three people and seriously injured three others in a British park Saturday was known to the U.K.’s counter-intelligence agency, according to a report. Police have not named the 25-year-old suspect, but Britain’s BBC and other British media outlets identified him as a Libyan asylum-seeker living in Reading, a town west of London where the rampage unfolded Saturday evening. The man had caught the attention of MI5, Britain’s domestic counter-intelligence and security agency, in 2019 over concerns he planned to travel abroad to join a jihadi group, security sources told the BBC. But, he was not determined to be a major threat and the agency did not open a case file on him, the sources said. Overnight, heavily armed officers raided an apartment about a mile away from the park, where the suspect reportedly was living. After everyone living there evacuated, a loud bang was heard from inside the building.
