"While there will be those that perhaps don't understand this new tactical approach to keeping our kids safe, it is my prayer that this new level of preparedness and immediate ability to address the threat will prevent an active shooter from ever walking onto one of our campuses and trying to harm a child," Ivey said. A North Carolina school district recently adopted similar school safety measures. Madison County Schools, near Asheville, North Carolina, announced Friday that AR-15 rifles would be kept on campus locked in safes for school resource officers to access if there's ever a shooting event. “Having a deputy just armed with a handgun isn't enough to stop these animals,” Sheriff Buddy Harwood said, according to WLOS-TV. “That's why I've decided to arm all of my school resource officers with AR-15 rifles.” Though the local...

Pelosi’s delegation consisted entirely of Congressional Democrats. It consisted of Reps. Jason Crow of Colorado, Jim McGovern of Massachusetts, Gregory Meeks from New York, and Adam Schiff from California. The delegation’s trip marks the second major visit made by American officials to Ukraine in the month of April. Earlier this month U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin met with Zelenskyy to discuss U.S. aid to Ukraine. In their meeting, the diplomats told Zelenskyy that the U.S. was prepared to provide Ukraine with $300 million in military financing and had also approved a $165 million sale of ammunition, that was not made in the U.S., that would be compatible with Ukraine’s Soviet-era weaponry. The U.S. and many of its European allies pledge to send shipments of defensive munitions to Ukraine to aid the country in warding off future Russian advances into the country. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., apparently told former President Donald Trump at one point that he "f'd up" the presidency during a conversation earlier this year in which Graham tried to convince Trump that he had actually lost the 2020 election. Author and Washington Post legend Bob Woodward shared the anecdote, pulled from his new book "Peril," during an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday, outlining the tough love that Trump reportedly got over the phone from his South Carolina colleague. "We quote conversations between Sen. Graham and Trump in which Lindsey Graham says to Trump, 'You f'd up your presidency' at one point just a couple of months ago," Woodward said, adding that Trump hung up shortly after. The next day, Trump apparently called Graham back, at which point Graham said: "I would have hung up too." The incident seems a far cry from Graham's public statements about the former president, in which he is nothing but supportive. As recently as Saturday night, the South Carolina Republican told a Michigan GOP conference that he hopes Trump runs again. "I...
Who couldn’t use a little bit of magic in their life? A sprinkle of fairy dust or a pact with the stars to send some luck or a tall, dark stranger their way? While most of us are content dropping pennies down wells or scanning the night sky for a shooting star, some take things further. With spells and sorcery, some women swear they’ve conjured up the man of their dreams or made a stranger fall in love with them. While cynics roll their eyes, white witch Sheila Kadeer, who had a decades-long career in the police force and today runs a spell circle for women, swears magic and spells work.  Magic, she says, is simply a way of tapping into the earth’s natural power to help you obtain your desires. A spell is a conscious process to direct this natural power to make those wishes come true. ‘One of the most popular types of spell cast is a love spell and there are many different ways of performing them, such as the quick and easy “candle spell” which involves...

On the other hand, and perhaps most importantly, even if your computer is old, Microsoft will do nothing to prevent you from installing Windows 11, but you will have to do it manually. The manufacturer has already published a series of hardware requirements for Windows 11 and that it will have a series of installation restrictions if you install it through Windows update. This means that if you have a computer that does not meet Microsoft’s requirements, you will not be able to install Windows 11 through Windows update, but yes through an ISO file, where later you will have to install it manually. This is very important, because even...
It is a common issue facing newly coupled up people around the world: you are falling for your partner but you're just not sure if they're serious about you. Relationship experts have coined a phrase for this 'relationship purgatory' - it's the 'situationship'.  Unlike a friends with benefits situation, those who find themselves in a situationship can have romantic feelings for each other, but their relationship status remains undefined.  However they don't have the full commitment of a relationship and might find themselves missing out on the full enjoyment of a 'proper' relationship. A survey of more than 12,000 users of dating app Hinge revealed one and three people have been in a 'situationship' over the last year.      But how do you recognise that you're in one before it's too late?  Hinge's Director of Relationship Science and author of How Not to Die Alone, Logan Ury told Femail the six red flags to look out for if you fear you could be falling into a situationship...   The signs include evasive body language, not introducing you to their friends and...
There was only one female journalist at the Taliban's first official press conference this week and her bold question to the group of armed men who took over Afghanistan's capital shocked the world.  Charlotte Bellis was the first person in the media scrum sitting before the Taliban on Tuesday to ask a question, her blonde locks peeking out from underneath a face covering. And it centred around how they would respect the rights of thousands of terrified Afghan women. Ms Bellis has worked for Al Jazeera, an independent news organisation funded partly by the Qatari government, from Afghanistan since 2019.  The experienced reporter, originally from New Zealand, was the only female journalist allowed to attend the Taliban's first official press conference. And she didn't waste the opportunity. Journalist Charlotte Bellis has won the hearts of women all over the world after she directly asked the Taliban what rights would be afforded to the thousands of terrified Afghan women In footage of the tense event Ms Bellis appears calm and measured as she introduces herself to Afghanistan's new rulers and...
MEXICO CITY If your dream has always been to visit Mars, this may be your chance, or something like that. It was recently announced that NASA is looking for volunteers who will be paid to spend a year in a completely isolated environment to simulate that they are on Mars. The objective is study ‘real life challenges’ they will face away from earth. via GIPHY According to the statement shared by the US space agency the project consists of three missions one year each, the first will start next year, in 2022. Each of the missions will be made up of four volunteers who will be in a Martian module called Mars Dune Alpha of just over 150 square meters printed in 3D. The habitat is built at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. It is critical to testing solutions that meet the complex needs of living on the Martian surface. Simulations on Earth will help us understand and counteract the physical and mental challenges that astronauts will face before departing, “explained Grace Douglas, a scientist in...
From a stylish 21-year-old Princess with a burgeoning fashion label, to the polo-playing king who's graced the catwalk for D&G, these royals may not be on your radar but that won't be for long.   Padmanabh Singh, 23, who has walked for D&G, was crowned as the unofficial Maharaja of Jaipur in 2011, and is a member of the former ruling family of Jaipur State, in present-day Rajasthan, India, and worth an estimated £500-650 million.  Although his title is not officially recogised by law as India is a federal parliamentary democratic republic, the title is still highly respected, and was bestowed to him when his grandfather died, skipping his mother due to her gender, and his father - a former household staff member - because he had no royal blood.  With Prince Charles' godson is currently dating a French jewellery designer, there are few other socialites in the world who could match up to the ultra-glossy family.  Thanks to a profile in Tatler this month and a new book on the history of Jaipur's royals, they certainly look poised to gain...

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Eric Adams hasn’t officially won the Democratic mayoral primary, but he’s already calling on Mayor Bill de Blasio to give the people who win their party’s primaries a five month head start on the job. As CBS2’s political reporter Marcia Kramer explains, Adams was wearing running shoes – not the formal shoes he usually wore when campaigning. It was calculated and intentional. READ MORE: Eric Adams Says Hes The Face Of The New Democratic Party, But Fellow Candidates Remind Him The Race Isnt Over “This is a new day for New York,” Adams said Friday. Even as he waits for the final tally from the Board of Elections, Adams is trying to get a running start on the job, take advantage of this year’s early primaries. He called on de Blasio to allow the Democratic nominee – even the Republican nominee – to begin meeting with agency heads immediately after the vote is finalized in July. “Share what we are doing in the city. Here’s what we should be looking like in the future. We need...
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — You’ve heard of incentives some states are using to increase their vaccination rates, from lotteries to free beer to marijuana, but none of these approaches deals with one big reason people aren’t getting vaccinated — fear of needles. But as CBS2’s Dr. Max Gomez reports, there’s a little device that can help overcome needle-phobia. READ MORE: NYC Primary: New Yorkers Head To Polls To Pick Next Mayor, Candidates Make Last-Minute Campaign Push A map shows only 16 states have vaccinated more than half their population. Maybe it’s because a recent survey found that 52% of unvaccinated respondents have moderate to high needle fear. “I fight or flight or faint, so I get a little bit woozy and I feel nervous and it’s, it’s just a really rough time,” Claire Hoyle said. That fear of needles kept Hoyle from getting vaccinated for a long time. Dr. Amy Baxter is a pediatric emergency medicine physician who’s studied needle-phobia and how to overcome it. It turns out a number of studies suggest a combination of cold and vibration helps...
William B. Plowman/NBC Chuck Todd is done with Twitter — mostly. The moderator of Meet the Press says he has stopped using the platform, which he compares to quitting smoking. But he still allows for the occasional hit, reserved for early mornings, when Twitter serves as a useful news feed. “At 5:00 in the morning, it’s still better than any AP wire,” Todd told me on this week’s episode of The Interview podcast. “I definitely don’t even bother with Twitter, basically when the sun is out, or at night when the sun goes down, unless I’m watching a sporting event and I’m curious to see, hey, what do they think of Durant tonight?” Todd pointed to groupthink that Joe Biden could not win the Democratic primary in 2019 as a good reason to not take Twitter too seriously. “The Democratic primary campaign should have been this wake up call for our entire industry,” he said. “There’s too many journalists think what what is said and happens on Twitter is representative of any sort of entity. It’s representative of the...
Critical race theory (CRT) has been pushed in schools and workplaces across the country in a purported effort to instruct people about inequality and injustice. The opponents of CRT come from all backgrounds — they’re parents and community members who share a concern over the ideas being taught to their children.  CRT holds that America is fundamentally racist, yet teaches individuals to view every social interaction and person in terms of race. Its adherents pursue “antiracism” through the end of merit, objective truth and the adoption of race-based policies. Schools across the country have implemented the ideas of CRT, often under “equity” policies or similar initiatives. In December, a report showed that Seattle Public Schools allegedly held a training teaching white teachers to “bankrupt their privilege” and understand the “centrality of whiteness” in society. In Philadelphia, students were reportedly told to participate in activities celebrating “black communist” Angela Davis in a Black Power rally simulation.  Kory Yeshua went viral for a video, filmed alongside his young daughter, calling for the end of CRT instruction because it divides people instead of empowering...

When I first heard about Raya, the elite dating app for celebrities, I was desperate to join. Who wouldn’t want the chance to date top footballers, Hollywood actors and lusted-over pop stars? Ever since its launch in 2015, the site has attracted celebrities from all areas of life with one thing in common: fame. Celebs reported to have memberships include Normal People actor Paul Mescal, Hollywood stars Sharon Stone and Channing Tatum, TV personality David Walliams, pop star Harry Styles, supermodel Cara Delevingne, plus A-list actors including Owen Wilson, Matthew Perry and Emilia Clarke (though she swiftly deleted the app). And masses of footballers. Spurs’ Dele Alli is reported to have signed up last month. With a waiting list of 100,000 and stricter vetting procedures than any private members’ club, Raya is the most exclusive match-making service ever devised, and theoretically the most private, too. Until now. An anonymous singleton in her 30s, from the UK, shares her experience of trying to find love on Raya.
