Forensic analysis of skeletal remains found last month in Costa Rica were confirmed to be Hill’s, Costa Rican law enforcement authorities confirmed Thursday. Hill’s father posted on Instagram on Tuesday announcing the 22-year-old’s death and that Hill had gone missing while in Costa Rica. Costa Rica’s Organismo de Investigación Judicial Los Santos office carried out the DNA analysis with samples from family members after the remains were found in the Napoles de Tarrazu sector, at the intersection between Naranjillo de Tarrazu and Santa Juana de Quepos on Monday, Aug. 8, a spokesperson for OIJ said. Hill and his sister, Tatianna, arrived in Costa Rica in April. The two “… explored the jungles and beaches together, went Airbnb hopping, ate great food fresh from the ocean and smoked great weed lol …,” she wrote on her Instagram on Tuesday. WE are not quite at the point where Jack Grealish is imitating another Manchester City maverick and wearing a T-shirt asking: “Why Always Me?” But after copping another blast from the legendary Graeme Souness, the most expensive English footballer in history might soon be borrowing Mario Balotelli’s old slogan. 3England wideman Jack Grealish says he'd rather take the advice of his Man City boss Pep Guardiola than ex-Liverpool star Graeme SounessCredit: Getty 3TV pundit Graeme Souness reckons Jack Grealish holds onto the ball too long and is a 'good, not great' playerCredit: Getty The Brummie is no whinger — insisting criticism is inevitable with his £100million transfer fee and adamant that he “just wants to be friends with youse all” in the media. Yet while Grealish is a cult hero with England fans, he has been getting it in the neck for his relative lack of goals and assists and also for his lifestyle. Getty New England Patriots W ith the New England Patriots placing Ty Montgomery on injured reserve, they will need some running backs to step up. One player is receiving a ton of praise heading into Week 2. While Damien Harris is great pounding the pigskin on the ground, New England will need someone to step up in the passing game. Rhamondre Stevenson appears to be that guy. Stevenson had a mediocre performance in Week 1 against the Dolphins with eight rushes for 25 yards along with two receptions for two yards. While not terrible, the Patriots will need a lot more from him moving forward. Stevenson’s teammates appear to have plenty of confidence in him. Jakobi Meyers described the running back as a rare talent when speaking to the media on Tuesday. “He’s a great player,” Meyers said. “A great player. I just feel like he can do so much, especially being that size. I feel like that’s a real rare talent of being big and skilled at the same time. He’s a great player. I feel like...
It didn’t take 3,000 hits to cement Roberto Clemente’s legacy as a baseball icon. The groundbreaking Hall of Famer’s tireless efforts as a humanitarian and activist off the field were just as prolific as his dominance on it, and his impact remains bigger than ever 50 years after his untimely death. Events honoring the former Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder are taking place throughout September in New York and his native Puerto Rico, while MLB players and coaches get the chance to wear his No. 21 on Sept. 15 for the league’s annual Roberto Clemente Day. “He was a complete human being,” says Mariela Vallines, the executive director of the Puerto Rico Convention District Authority, which organized Clemente celebrations throughout the island. “He was a great father. He was a great husband. He was a great player. He was a great humanitarian. At the end of the day, that’s what Puerto Ricans aspire to be — just a great human being.” Clemente died at age 38 on Dec. 31, 1972, in a plane crash on his way to deliver aid packages to...
Getty James Harden of the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite their best efforts, the Philadelphia 76ers have never been able to get over the hump in the Joel Embiid era. He’s an MVP-level talent, and they’ve put some great players around him, but so far, the furthest the team has made it is to the second round of the playoffs. Last season, after trading Ben Simmons to the Brooklyn Nets, fans got excited because James Harden was painted as a potential missing piece. Embiid was finally going to get to play with an elite offensive point guard. However, he was dealing with a hamstring injury, and Philadelphia lost to the Miami Heat in Round 2. During a recent interview on the Takeoff with John Clark podcast on NBC Sports, Sixers GM Daryl Morey spoke at length about Harden’s injury. He said that he was surprised when Harden came to him with the issue after the season but that the hamstring is in “a good place” now. “More than any player I’ve worked with, he never says something’s wrong,” Morey said....
FREDDIE LJUNGBERG reckons that table-toppers Arsenal may simply have too much for Manchester United as they visit Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. And he rubbished suggestions that his former side have punched above their weight, given the riches they can now call upon after splashing the cash. He told SunSport: “This season Arsenal look really good. Winning five games in a row is a great start for the season. They spent the money again this summer and have great...
ANTONIO CONTE sees a hunger in Eric Dier’s eyes to become one of the top defenders in world football. Dier’s form has improved dramatically under the Italian to the point where it was a shock he was not recalled by England for the June internationals. 1Eric Dier netted against Southampton in the opening game of the season The 28-year-old may have missed out that time but SunSport revealed on Friday that he is back in Gareth Southgate’s plans and has a good chance of making the squad for the Nations League matches against Italy and Germany later this month. Being a former international manager himself with Italy, Conte would never advise Southgate on what he should or should not do. But the Spurs boss is in no doubt as to how far Dier has come under his tutelage. Conte said: “I think the big improvement about Eric is that now he is a player who in every game is 100 per cent focused. He is a reliable player. SAN FRANCISCO — Austin Slater, the Giants’ representative with the MLB Players Association, was enthusiastic Monday about this week’s potentially groundbreaking labor development, when the union began a push to include long overlooked minor-league players. “I think it’s a great step in the right direction,” said Slater, who was one of 30 player reps to vote in a Zoom meeting on Friday to support bringing in minor leaguers under the bargaining umbrella of the powerful MLBPA. With the support of the MLBPA, which has collectively bargained on behalf of major-league players since 1968, an email went out late Sunday night to all players on minor-league contracts that officially opened the unionization drive. If 30% of the estimated 5,000 to 6,500 minor leaguers in the U.S. sign authorization cards, that would permit the MLBPA to represent them and file the union authorization election request with the National Labor Relations Board. A majority vote in that election would create a separate bargaining unit for minor-league players within the MLBPA. If approved, it would mark a momentous win in the movement to improve...

NEWPORT, R.I. MADRID (AP) — It’s been a quick rise for Carlos Alcaraz. It wasn’t long ago that the 19-year-old Spaniard was playing in youth tennis tournaments and talking about his idols Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, and about his dream of one day making it into the top 10 and winning the French Open and Wimbledon. It was only a year ago that he broke into the top 120 for the first time and began making his way into the main tournaments. Few at the time could predict what the future held for the young Spaniard. But come next week in Paris, Alcaraz will be among the favorites to win the French Open. The Spaniard is tennis’ newest sensation and the hottest player on tour this year, considered by many the successor of Nadal. Alcaraz won the Madrid Open on Sunday for his tour-leading fourth title of the season, lifting the trophy after back-to-back victories over Nadal, top-ranked Novak Djokovic and third-ranked Alexander Zverev. “I remember the first time when I was playing, when I was a kid in (the Spanish...
Getty Kevin Durant responds to Charles Barkley. Kevin Durant might be looked at as one of the best players in the NBA, but the Brooklyn Nets star has his fair share of critics. Much of the criticism stems from him leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder and joining the stacked Golden State Warriors to capture an NBA title. After winning in Golden State alongside Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, he joined Brooklyn in the hopes of building a championship team there. After being swept out of the first round by the Boston Celtics, the dreams of hoisting a trophy in Brooklyn will have to wait at least another year, but there are some people who don’t think Durant can lead a team to a title himself. NBA Hall of Famer turned analyst Charles Barkley is one of those people and he said Durant is a bus rider instead of the driver.Barkley Takes a Shot Charles Barkley goes off on Bus drivers and bus riders for championship teams and specifically talks about Kevin Durant pic.twitter.com/DLBqD65kcj — Alex ????...
Getty Joel Embiid is worthy of the MVP award. Not seeing Joel Embiid’s name anywhere on the final voting results for NBA Defensive Player of the Year was shocking. The only Philadelphia 76ers player to get a vote was Matisse Thybulle who earned one third-place vote. Marcus Smart of the Boston Celtics claimed the hardware. While no one was taking issue with Smart winning the award, it was strange that Embiid got no respect. The 7-footer was a force to be reckoned with on the defensive end this season while playing in a career-high 68 games. Embiid ranked in the top-5 in several categories, including DFGM and DFGA. Those two nerdy statistics chart an opponent’s field goal percentage on shots when the player is defending the shot. His 11.7 rebounds per game were 6th-best in the NBA and his 1.5 blocks per game were good enough for 12th-best. More impressively, Embiid’s PER (Player Efficiency Rating) was 3rd-best at 31.24 which trailed only Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokuounmpo. So, why wasn’t the Sixers’ big man in consideration for Defensive...

(CNN)Former Scotland and British & Irish Lions rugby international Tom Smith has died aged 50, after being diagnosed with stage four colon cancer in 2019.During his career, Smith won 61 caps for his country and six for the invitational Lions side, playing an important role in Scotland's 1999 Five Nations title and the Lions' 1997 series win in South Africa. Scottish Rugby tweeted Wednesday: "Scotland and Lions prop Tom Smith sadly passed away earlier today aged 50. A hugely respected player, Tom will be greatly missed by everyone associated with rugby in Scotland and throughout the game. Credit: Julio Aguilar/Getty Images You have to evolve as player in today’s NBA, and these three guy suddenly became great 3-point shooters this season. In any sport, as a player or a coach, it’s, to put it somewhat crudely, “evolve or die.” For an NBA player, that means being able to step out on the floor and shoot the ball in a game where traditional position roles and labels are fading (if not outright eliminated, in a practical sense). While there is still value in that part of the game, analytics say mid-range jumpers are not as valuable as closer shots and certainly 3-pointers (#math on the latter). A player who can’t be some level of threat away from the basket and positively impact spacing is almost a net negative offensively, no matter what else he can do. With work, it’s possible to become a functional shooter–if not a pretty good one. Getty Steve Nash hopes Sixers vs. Nets can turn into a new NBA rivalry. The Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets have matched up 207 times in the regular season, plus another 12 games in the postseason. There really isn’t enough history between them to call it a full-blown rivalry. Prior to tip-off on Thursday night, Steve Nash was asked for his thoughts on the state of the two teams. The Nets head coach wasn’t willing to slap the rivalry label on it; however, the James Harden-for-Ben Simmons trade has turned Nets vs. Sixers into a burgeoning blood feud. “I think usually there has to be some sort of history, in a playoff series predominantly,” Nash told reporters. “It’s not really my expertise to define what a rivalry is but hopefully we can make it one. That would be great. It would be great to play meaningful games more often.” Steve Nash on Ben Simmons being on Brooklyn’s bench at the #76ers tonight: “How many people go into an arena and get booed by the entire place?
