LUIS SUAREZ has been named Uruguay captain against Ghana - over a decade after his infamous World Cup handball. The striker takes the armand from Diego Godin with the centre-back placed on the bench. Suarez in 2010 prevented Ghana from scoring a late winner in their quarter-final in South Africa. The Liverpool legend handled the ball on the line to stop Dominic Adiyiah's goalbound header. Ex-Sunderland forward Asamoah Gyan went on to miss the penalty with Uruguay later winning on penalties to dramatically progress. By HOWARD FENDRICH | AP Tennis Writer WIMBLEDON, England — Brandon Nakashima’s victory over 2021 Wimbledon semifinalist Denis Shapovalov at Court 12 on Thursday at the All England Club? Martin Blackman was there. That came after Taylor Fritz used a full-on, headfirst dive to reach an unreachable shot on the way to eliminating Alastair Gray on the same patch of grass. Blackman was present for that one, too, just as he was for Jenson Brooksby’s win at Court 17. All in all, it’s been quite a productive – and rare – start to Wimbledon for Nakashima, Fritz, Brooksby and other American men: There will be eight of them in the third round, accounting for a quarter of the 32 players left in the field, the most for the country at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament since 1995. It’s also the most at any major since the 1996 U.S. Open. And so, in some ways, it’s been quite a start for the U.S. Tennis Association and Blackman, the general manager of USTA Player Development. “It was fun. It was really fun....

LONDON (AP) — Molineux, the home stadium of Premier League team Wolverhampton, is set to host an England men’s international for the first time in more than 65 years. England will play two Nations League matches — against Italy and Hungary — there in June, the Football Association said Thursday, continuing the trend of taking the national team’s fixtures on the road and away from London’s Wembley Stadium. Emma Raducanu told a press conference she 'needs to cut herself some slack' after losing to the world number 100 in her first match since she won the US Open and parted with her longtime coach Andrew Richardson.  The champion of New York turned out to be no queen of the desert at Indian Wells as she was soundly beaten on her first appearance since Flushing Meadows, going down 6-2 6-4 to Aliaksandra Sasnovich at the BNP Paribas Open.  The jaunty and irrepressible air that Raducanu displayed during her astonishing Grand Slam victory appeared to be replaced by flat body language. But the Kent teenager responded maturely to this setback against an opponent who had already experienced these sluggish conditions in the first round, reasoning: 'You can easily get sucked into being so focused on the result and getting disappointed.
