    For the first time in its history, Miss Universe is updating its eligibility rule and making a huge change in its selection process by allowing married women and mothers to compete.  For the last 70 years, the pageant was only available to women who had never been married or had children, but now, both mothers and married women can enter the pageant.  The new rule will take affect during the 72nd Miss Universe pageant, which is set to take place in 2023.  'We all believe that women should have agency over their lives and that a human's personal decisions should not be a barrier to their success,' an internal memo obtained by The National said.     Cheslie Kryst is being mourned by many whose lives she touched. The 2019 winner of the Miss USA pageant and a correspondent for "EXTRA" died at age 30. Police said Kryst jumped from a Manhattan apartment building and was pronounced dead at the scene Sunday morning. Kryst’s family confirmed the star’s tragic death in a statement. "In devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie," the statement read. "Her great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength." "Cheslie embodied love and served others, whether through her work as an attorney fighting for social justice, as Miss USA and as a host on EXTRA," the family shared. "But most importantly, as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor and colleague – we know her impact will live on."     Steve Harvey came close to having yet another gaffe at the Miss Universe pageant on Sunday. The U.S. TV host was on hand in the Israeli Red Sea resort town of Eilat where the new Miss Universe was crowned Sunday night after narrowing the field of roughly 80 contestants from around the world to just one winner. When it was down to just the final two, Harvey came quite close to mixing up the countries again. Yahoo Entertainment reports that after South Africa was named as the second runner-up, Harvey turned to the two remaining contestants from Paraguay and India and began to congratulate "Portugal" before he caught himself. "They wrote Portugal on the damn sign, trying to play me – they’re trying to get me again. But I’m not going for it this year," Harvey said. "Congratulations Paraguay.     (CNN)Miss Kentucky Elle Smith has won the 2021 Miss USA pageant. Smith is a 2020 graduate of University of Kentucky, the school said on Twitter. She majored in Broadcast Journalism, according to a biography posted by Louisville's WHAS11, where she works as a reporter. While at UK, Smith served as vice-president of the school's National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) chapter, the station said.The NABJ congratulated Smith on her victory. And the woman who won the Miss Universe crown that year, Venezuela’s Alicia Machado, found out what happened when you slipped below Trumpian standards. After Machado won Miss Universe in May 1996, she gained some weight.
