CME Group chairman and CEO Terry Duffy said he suspected corruption at the cryptocurrency exchange the day of his first one-on-one meeting with founder Sam Bankman-Fried. "I told my team this had nothing to do with crypto," Duffy told CNBC's "Fast Money" on Tuesday. "He wanted to list all asset classes, mine, the Intercontinental, the CME and everybody else's, under his model which would have been... a biblical disaster." Bankman-Fried's team did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Duffy first recounted his meeting with Bankman-Fried last week on the "On the Tape" podcast, which is hosted by "Fast Money" traders Guy Adami and Dan Nathan. "You're a fraud. You're an absolute fraud," Duffy said he told Bankman-Fried. Now, Duffy is giving further details on what happened leading up to his encounter with him. Duffy wanted to know whey the...
Internet sleuths have discovered that $515 million has disappeared from the accounts of collapsed crypto exchange FTX in 'suspicious circumstances.' Company founder Sam Bankman-Fried resigned from FTX on Friday, as the crypto exchange filed for bankruptcy and reports emerged that, separate to the missing $515 million, up to $2 billion in client funds had vanished from the company's books in recent weeks. Nick Percoco, chief security officer of Kraken, another exchange, said in a tweet: 'We know the identity of the user' who withdrew the funds from FTX.  FTX's U.S. general counsel Ryne Miller responded to that tweet saying: 'Interested in anything you are open to share. Could you reach out to me?'   At the time of writing, Percoco has not elaborated further as to whether or not the withdrawal was the work of a hacker.  Multiple reports have pointed out that the methods used to withdraw the money bear the hallmarks of a hacker.   It's reported that Bankman-Fried, known for regularly wearing t-shirts and shorts, is holed up in the Bahamas as his empire continues to crumble.  DailyMail.com has...
Jessica Tarlov and Greg Gutfeld, co-hosts of The Five, got into a heated exchange about the politics of abortion during Wednesday’s show after Tarlov noted that the issue drove up turnout among Democrats during Tuesday’s midterm elections. Tarlov argued that many on the right did not predict the abortion issue resonating as strongly as it did as many failed to understand the everyday implications abortion rights have on women across the country. “There was so much talk about the issue of abortion as if it’s something that people use as a birth control method, that it’s just wild women going out and saying, you know, I don’t want to use a condom, I’ll just get an abortion. No big deal,” Tarlov began, adding: When, in fact, abortion is so much a part of health care, of family planning. There are so many people who are forced to have an abortion from wanted pregnancies. And those are the conversations that are going well all over this country “God, are you campaigning for Planned Parenthood or what?” Gutfeld sniped as co-host Dana...
“No,” Messina replied. “I’m just concerned that the RNC gave you the talking points and now you can’t shift.” “I tell you what, man, do you have a single friend?” Jennings asked Messina sarcastically before getting a tad angry. “You’re an absolute jerk! Unbelievable." Alisyn Camerota tried to tone things down, hilariously sounding a bit like a teen trying to stop a high school fight: "Guys! Guys! Guys! Stop!" Jennings just got angrier. “I’m sorry, I don’t come on here and read talking points! You know me, and you know me, and you,” he said angrily, pointing at Camerota, Laura Coates, and Ana Navarro one by one, the outlet said. Speaking to Messina, Jennings added that "I don’t even know you, and you come on here and insult me …" Camerota then held up her hand and pleaded for an end to the "ad-hominem attacks." "I don’t want to be accused of reading talking points," Jennings added. \u201c\u201cI tell you what, man, do you...
A Republican contributor for CNN is going viral following his heated on-air exchange with former President Barack Obama's campaign manager Jim Messina. According to Mediaite, CNN's Scott Jennings clashed with Messina during an intense debate about Latino voters. The two participated in a "CNN Tonight" panel moderated by Laura Coates and Alisyn Camerota. Messina insisted that a Latino voting block is non-existent as he claimed some Republicans have been successful in attracting the voter base as a result of focusing on localized issues. READ MORE: 'Wake Up And Smell the Racism': CNN's Ana Navarro Schools Trump Defender With Exhaustive History Lesson on Trump's Bigotry “The Democrats are having a struggle internally about whether we will be PC and say these great things, and call them Latinx and all of this stuff,” Messina said. “Or we are going to talk to voters about things they care about, like the economy, and education and things that every other voter cares about.” Jennings pushed back arguing that Republican lawmakers were successful with Latino voters because they acknowledge them as people with...

If you haven’t already, please subscribe here for digital access all season long. Woodside: Exchange student’s shining moment Sometimes the stories on high school football fields are like a made-for-TV drama. The finish between Woodside and Fremont-Sunnyvale was one of those occasions. Fremont trailed by a point Friday night when it lined up for a 26-yard field goal in the waning seconds. Mattia Longo, a backup linebacker who was on the field for Woodside because the starter had rolled his ankle, blocked the kick and Antonio Zamorano scooped up the ball and returned it 86 yards to clinch a 34-27 victory. But here’s where the story gets even better. Longo is an exchange student from Italy who had never played American football until this year. “He just went after it and laid out for it,” Woodside coach Justin Andrews said. “It was a beautiful block.” How did Woodside get Longo to play football? “I didn’t,” Andrews...
When you’re a student at Lorient, it’s not easy to find accommodation on the other side of France for six months, a period of training. Not easy. At least until today and the Ezone app was launched in September 2022 by Bastou Koumai, a student at Lorient. The principle is simple. Once downloaded from Google Play (a version for iPhone is in development), and registration is complete, the app allows you to search multiple criteria from a series of four fields: city of departure, city of arrival, date and environment. “We explain the reason for the internship or the alternative exam”, underlines Basto Goumai. Ezone, a home exchange application for students. (The Telegram/Stephen Kuehenuf) He got the idea for this application one evening in November 2021 after a discussion with a friend and an acquaintance of his. “He explained to us that he had great difficulty in finding accommodation in Lorient”. An idea then sprouts, which will find students sheltering for an internship, instead, alternating with those who release them for the same reasons. “I said to myself that this...
We have arrived at the precise moment that Republicans warned about four years ago, back when the debate on Capitol Hill and in national security circles was over the wisdom of fielding a new lower-yield nuclear weapon that could be fired from a submarine. The United States had (and continues to have) low-yield nukes that can be dropped by bombers and fighter jets. But the impetus for the submarine-based option came in response to the disturbing intelligence about Moscow’s new nuclear doctrine of “escalate to de-escalate.” It's a scary scenario in which Russia would engage in a strategy of nuclear chicken to intimidate an adversary into backing down. In 2018, then-Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis revamped the Pentagon’s nuclear deterrence strategy. The new stance called for the warheads on some of the Cold War-era Trident missiles on America’s ballistic missile submarines to be modified: removing the powerful fusion bomb, while leaving behind the smaller fission trigger. The result would convert the massive thermonuclear warhead into a smaller atomic explosive — a low-yield weapon about one-third as powerful...
Lawyers for Elon Musk and Twitter on Wednesday cited the latest revelations of Pitcher’s warning and gave an overview of the arguments they could make during a hearing on whether to force the entrepreneur to buy the social network. Mr. Musk’s representative tried to convince Kathleen McCormick, the judge in charge of the case. The two sides met to discuss information to be shared ahead of a trial scheduled for October. Mr. Asks Musk’s team. New York Times White House correspondent Michael Shear blamed President Joe Biden for not solving the gun problem in a contentious exchange with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. The massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas that claimed the lives of 19 children and two adults, and the anti-Black racist attack in Buffalo barely a week earlier, have thrust gun violence back onto the media’s radar. But as usual, they are simply not up to the task of serving the public. At Thursday’s press briefing, Shear led a charge among reporters in the room to make a show of pushing President Biden on the issue, even going so far as to suggest Biden is to blame for decades of inaction in the face of the carnage. He began with about a minute-and-a-half soliloquy about how Biden acts all upset about shooting, but why doesn’t he cancel all of his vacations or imprison lawmakers or appoint “a czar of gun things”: And then just, you know, going back to the question that I’m sure, you know, everybody has been asking, which is...
Elon Musk has tweeted a response to a newly-published bombshell report that SpaceX allegedly paid $250,000 to one of the company's corporate flight attendants, who accused the tech mogul of exposing himself to her and propositioning her for sex. Musk tweeted Thursday night: 'The attacks against me should be viewed through a political lens - this is their standard (despicable) playbook - but nothing will deter me from fighting for a good future and your right to free speech.' He then finally tweeted a denial in response to Cucumber Capital CEO Tara Bull: 'And, for the record, those wild accusations are utterly untrue.'   The man currently trying to buy Twitter has recently made a public display of having decided to vote Republican this year after having voted for Democrats in the past.   The woman, who has not been named, reportedly claimed the billionaire rubbed her leg and offered her gifts in exchange for an erotic massage. Donald Trump criticized Piers Morgan for the way he lost his job in British TV last year, according to audio of their controversial interview obtained by DailyMail.com, saying he should not have clashed with a weatherman during an on-air row about Meghan Markle. A 30-second trailer for Morgan's new program shows Trump apparently storming out of the interview.  But the former president's aides say it was deceptively edited to create the impression that their good natured meeting ended on a sour note. And an audio clip from their exchange even shows Trump saying he thought Morgan should have handled things differently when he came under fire for publicly criticizing Markle. The former president lays out his admiration for the Queen and his disdain for her grandson Prince Harry.  The new show is entitled Piers Morgan Uncensored. 'I chose the title because I last my lost job, at the Good Morning Britain show,' said Morgan in the exchange.' Trump answered: 'I thought you overreacted by the way.' 'Well, I'll tell you what happened,' said Morgan, before Trump cuts him off, accusing...
NOT since Gabriel Batistuta have Fiorentina boasted a No9 that has terrorised Serie A defences so menacingly as Dusan Vlahovic has in the past year. Fox News contributor Tammy Bruce joined ‘Fox & Friends’ Wednesday to react to another heated exchange between Kentucky GOP Senator Rand Paul and Dr. Anthony Fauci.  Sen. Paul has been leading the efforts to look into Dr. Fauci's potential role in the origins of COVID-19 and a lack of transparency. FAUCI LASHES OUT AT SEN. RAND PAUL DURING SENATE HEARING TAMMY BRUCE: It was an embarrassment for Dr. Fauci. This is a man who in all of his display, all of his responses really confirmed the attitude that we've all watched develop out of him. It is smug, an arrogance, a disconnect. … It's a remarkable display, but it really reflects the rot that comes from an entrenched bureaucracy. These are individuals who feel that they are superior. There is to be no contradiction. There's to be no criticism. They feel completely unaccountable to anyone, and they feel that that's appropriate. "My belief is that we will have some kind of coherent regulation, but on the tougher side," said Avinash Shekhar, co-CEO of Zebpay, told CNBC's "Squawk Box Asia" on Thursday. Joe Rogan praised CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta on Friday, and rebuked those assuming a viral, short clip of a tense moment in their interview was representative of the entire conversation. “The reality is that disagreement was a very small part of what was overall a very enjoyable conversation,” he said. “Sanjay is a really nice person and I like him a lot. After our time together I consider him a friend.” The pair discussed Covid, vaccines and CNN’s coverage of Rogan’s experience with the virus — the latter of which caused several headlines. Rogan commented that CNN has been “lying about me taking horse medication,” referring to his announcement that he had used ivermectin while fighting Covid-19. Ivermectin does come in veterinary forms but also comes in human forms and can treat parasitic infections and head lice. The medicine is nonetheless not approved by the FDA to treat Covid, and the agency has underscored the dangers of humans consuming the animal form. “Why would they lie and say that’s horse dewormer?” he told Gupta. “I can afford people medicine,...

An Indiana county on Wednesday voted to end a needle exchange program that health officials say has been responsible for significantly reducing the spread of HIV in the area.  The Scott County commissioners decided in a 2-1 vote that the district should phase out the program that provides access to and disposal of sterile needles and naloxone, as well as other emergency recovery and medical services.  Commissioners Mike Jones and Randy Julian defended their votes striking down the program Wednesday by arguing that access to needles has caused more drug overdoses in the county.  "I know people that are alcoholics, and I don't buy him a bottle of whiskey, and ... I have a hard time handing a needle to somebody that I know they're going to hurt theirself with," Jones said, according to NPR.  Meanwhile, Julian said that while he is “very worried” about “HIV and hepatitis,” what he was “more concerned about is the people we cannot bring back to life,” according to local ABC affiliate WHAS. The Conversation Spain What things say about us Sketch for _The Bedroom at Arles_ by Vincent van Gogh (October 1888). Wikimedia Commons / Gogh Museum, Amsterdam In the days following the death of a beloved relative, we re-enter his house, now empty of his laughter and caresses, more full of everything that his life developed between. Collections, samplings, furnishings, archives and libraries, museums, laboratories, digital networks and data complexes are conditions that are neither above nor below the social character of cultural productions. In culture, spaces, artifacts and communities...

His line of thought and the great diffusion he acquired with social networks were considered a danger to millions of people in the world. However, the founder of Microsoft has requested the return to Twitter of Donald trump despite his “corrosive” ideas over the past four years. But Bill gates opens the dilemma, the suspension of accounts for him, does not seem the appropriate solution. In an interview that the businessman conducted to Fox News, Gates dropped his opinion saying that the indefinite closure of Trump’s Twitter account – and other apps such as Instagram or Facebook – after the assault on the Capitol is not good news, despite the words and opinions of the former president throughout of the last few years.
