A Minnesota mother is suing Walmart after a fire in a parking lot burned her two daughters, killing one and permanently disfiguring the other. Essie McKenzie, 33, was shopping at the Walmart in Fridley, Minnesota, in 2019 when her daughters, Ty'rah, 6, and Taraji, 9, were caught in a fire after Roberto Hipolito left a hot camping stove inside his minivan besides the girls' car.  McKenzie is now seeking at least $75,000 in damages against Walmart, blaming the company for its 'well-known' policy of allowing people to camp out in their parking lots but not monitoring them to ensure the safety of others, KARE 11 reported.  'Walmart encouraged and permitted a dangerous condition on its property,' the lawsuit states. '[Walmart] escalated that danger by failing to provide staff to oversee the appropriate use of its parking lot as a campground.' “He served me twice for the last two days. He was very nice. He was very kind. ... I was shocked that someone like that does something so horrible,” Suissa said. A store security guard also stated that Walker and the victim had previously gotten into arguments and that he was afraid that tensions between the two men might eventually escalate into violence, Hawaii News Now reports. The AP claims that when reporters contacted the store, they were unable to speak with any employee who had been working during the time of the alleged incident and that the 7-Eleven corporate office in Hawaii did not return calls for comment. Walker appeared in court Monday morning, and his bail has been set at $400,000.
Dear Amy: What can I say to people who unnecessarily idle their cars while sitting in a parking lot? We do not need more pollution! These idlers are generally not happy when I knock on their window and bring up the subject. What firm-but-polite words can I use? I’m even thinking of printing business cards to leave on the vehicle, because sometimes the owners of the idling car are not even in it! Greg in Minnesota Dear Greg: Unless there is a human or animal in the car waiting while the car’s owner dashes into the pharmacy for some life-saving medication, there is no justification for an empty car to sit idling. Rather than printing up cards, I suggest a very colorful flier, placed on the windshield of an empty idling car. According to the Department of Energy (afdc.energy.gov), “Researchers estimate that idling from heavy-duty and light-duty vehicles combined wastes about 6 billion gallons of fuel annually. About half of that is attributable to personal vehicles, which generate around 30 million tons of CO2 every year just by idling. While...
Two police officers missed their chance at possibly saving the lives of 21 victims who were killed in the Uvalde elementary school massacre, according to a sweeping critique released Wednesday on the tactical response to the May tragedy. An officer spotted 18-year-old Salvador Ramos armed with a rifle just before he entered Robb Elementary School and radioed for permission to shoot. But he never got an answer.  The gunman then entered the school and carried out the deadliest school shooting in Texas history. The massacre of 19 children and two teachers continued for over an hour as responding officers waited outside.  According to the report released by Texas State University, another missed opportunity to slow or stop the gunman was just a few minutes earlier as he was walking in the parking lot heading for the school.   One of the responding officers sped past him at a 'high rate of speed' and missed the shooter armed with a rifle.  The report is yet another damning assessment of how police failed to act on opportunities that might have saved lives in what...

Bryannita Nicholson had no idea Nipsey Hussle had been shot — even as she drove the man who killed the beloved L.A. rapper away from the crime scene. Nicholson had met the man in her passenger seat, Eric Holder Jr., only one month earlier, when she picked him up in that same Chevy Cruze while she was driving for Lyft. The 35-year-old caretaker and rideshare driver didn’t consider Holder a “boyfriend,” but she said the two had been intimate and hung out “every other day” for weeks, meeting up at the Santa Monica Pier, along the Hollywood Walk of Fame and at a home music studio in Long Beach. But they had never been to South L.A. together. Not until March 31, 2019, when they pulled into the parking lot that housed Marathon Clothing. Nicholson said she noticed Hussle standing in the parking lot, yelled out, “He fine, I wanna take a picture with him,” and raced over to snap a selfie a few minutes later. It wouldn’t be long before Hussle lay there dying. At the same time,...

How companies are hiding inflation without charging you more, Quartz Clarisa Diaz reports that while some products and services have gone up in price, another way companies can make a profit during these economic times is to reduce the size of the product but keep the same price. This concept is called “shrinkflation.” Examples include a toothpaste brand that’s selling 3.8 ounces in a tube that used to hold 4.1 ounces, and a popular snack chip that’s reduced its volume by 5 chips per bag. —Corey Anderson, creative director It’s time to reimagine the church parking lot, Christian Century Travis Norvell is the pastor of Judson Memorial Baptist Church in south Minneapolis who is known to some as the Pedaling Pastor who champions bike commuting reports on MPR. The intersection of Lyndale and West Broadway avenues in North Minneapolis is notorious for illicit activity. The commercial intersection is lined with businesses that have parking lots along the street. Those lots double as round-the-clock open-air markets for drugs and sex, as well as gathering and meeting grounds that turn violent or deadly, according to neighbors and local organizations. Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. was no different. The windy and overcast afternoon saw rows of cars in the parking lot of Merwin Liquors, located at 700 West Broadway Ave. At random intervals, a car would enter the lot, its window opening just as a woman waiting by the doors of the liquor store darts over and enters her closed fist into the car through a window, and then the car would leave. A man in a sedan parked in the spot closest to the entrance for the liquor store periodically lowered his window to call out to people walking by. “Loud. Loud for 25. Loud. Loud,” he casually said, calling out a colloquial term for marijuana and his price, like he’s...

Out of all the vehicles he could have chosen, a would-be car thief picked the one belonging to a UFC fighter. Jordan Williams, 30, had gone inside a gas station in Colorado to fetch some snacks and a drink on his way back from the gym, but in the short amount of time he was away from his car, a have-a-go thief climbed into the driver's seat on the forecourt.  The car's engine had been switched off but as soon as Williams was within five feet, the push-to-start engine was activated.  It took him a few moments to shift the vehicle into reverse, but it was just enough time for Williams to dash from the Denver store and yank open the driver's door to pull the robber out.

If you’re going to take the "say it to my face" attitude, you need to be ready to back it up when someone actually does, you know, say it to your face. It’s a bad look when you try to be a tough guy with comments like that only to shy away when push comes to shove. We don’t know if this is what happened when Twins third baseman Josh Donaldson confronted White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito in a parking lot after a game, but that’s the way Donaldson made it seem. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM To give you some of the backstory, Giolito was recently irked by Donaldson’s behavior after a two-run homer on Tuesday night. He’s a f—ing pest," Giolito said after the game, via NBC Sports. "That’s kind of a classless move. If you’re going to talk s—, talk s— to my face. Don’t go...

Springer ruled in favor of Papi on the show, ordering Lakins to pay half of what he was being asked for in damages, according to court documents.
