In this article CZR TWTR DIS NYT Shams Charania, NBA basketball reporterSource: Sinclair Broadcast Group's StadiumShams Charania's primary job is straightforward: break news on the National Basketball Association. It's not a new occupation, but historically it's never been a particularly lucrative one. Social media and legalized mobile sports betting have changed the game. Being the first to tweet out news of a trade, free agent signing, injury or executive change has become a kind of esport of its own, with the information reaching millions of followers in an instant. NBA fans on Twitter are on a first-name basis with Charania and are equally intimate with his former Yahoo Sports colleague Adrian Wojnarowski, known as Woj, who now writes for ESPN. During the NBA offseason or as trade deadline approaches and players change teams at lightning speed, one of the two reporters will almost always break the news. The comments on their tweets come in by the thousands, and the public is keeping score. Wojnarowski's scoops even have their own moniker: "Woj bomb." Fans with too much time on their...
Getty Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson looks on from the bench during a game against the Portland Trail Blazers. As of this writing, it has been 931 days since Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson last appeared on the court during an actual NBA game. And while the five-time All-Star finally looks to be nearing a return, we still have precious little information about when it will actually occur. Nearly two weeks have passed since Warriors PR updated the situation, and whether we actually learned anything then is up for debate. Not much was said beyond Thompson’s timeline being “on schedule” and that a return date would be announced “when finalized and available.” According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Thompson’s big day continues to be up in the air. “To my knowledge, I don’t think they’ve pinpointed exactly which game,” Charania said during an appearance on KNBR’s Murph & Mac. However, the league insider did offer up an educated guess about which game it might be.Shams Projects Klay’s Return Date

Russell Westbrook trade rumors? Why not? The Rockets are at a pivotal moment this offseason, and reports have swirled surrounding their two mega-stars, Russell Westbrook and James Harden. Both reportedly want out of Houston, just a year after Westbrook’s arrival in the Lone Star State. The first of the two to request a trade, though, was Westbrook, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania: MORE: Tracking James Harden trade rumors While a trade might be on the horizon (along with a total rebuild for Houston), there are some major factors playing into a potential Westbrook trade: his age (32), his potential physical decline, his contract and his history of knee surgeries, among them. Per Charania, Westbrook also wants to go back to his “floor general” role he had with OKC. Through all that, though, Westbrook played well in his first — and potentially only — season in a Rockets uniform: He averaged 27.2 points a game, 7.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game in 2019-2020. Those are enticing numbers for a team looking to add some juice to its offense....

When the NBA shared its return plan and campus setup for the basketball “bubble” in Orlando, Fla., one minor element became a source of fascination for NBA Twitter: the anonymous tip hotline. Adrian Wojnarowski, (Photo by Mike Lawrie/Getty Images) The NBA’s top insider war between Shams Charania and Adrian Wojnarowski took a turn. On Friday, an email from ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski to Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri was leaked, and it included a Woj bomb of epic proportions. Hawley sent a letter to the NBA, criticizing their position on the Black Lives Matter movement. When Woj caught whiff of this, he responded with a different kind of bomb. You get the idea. Wojnarowski has since apologized, both on social media and with a phone call to Hawley’s office. ESPN claims to not be a political entity, and while few of us believe them, to be outright in their stance is unlike them. Woj’s comment being made public, even if only one word, doesn’t do them any favors if remaining apolitical during times of social unrest truly is their goal. I will always stand with @wojespn. I’m mad he apologized for expressing himself in a private email that a jackwagon politician aired out. You send a politically motivated email, you deserve...
