Frederick Breedon/Getty Images Matt Barnes walked back Friday the comments he previously made about the suspension of Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka. It originally appeared that Barnes would be a prominent supporter of Udoka. This afternoon, however, Barnes posted a live video on his Instagram and retracted the comments he made last night and deleted his original take. “Last night without knowing all the facts I spoke on Ime Udoka’s defense,” Barnes said to his Instagram followers. Barnes gave no details on why he changed his mind, but it was enough to make him give an explanation to his followers. “After finding out the facts, I erased what I posted,” Barnes continued. “This situation in Boston is deep. It’s messy. It’s 100 times uglier than any of us thought.” Barnes argued it is not his business to share, but people should be thoughtful about what happened. “It’s not my place to tell you what happened,” Barnes said. “If it ends up coming out, it ends up coming out, but that was the reason I erased my post last night.”...
A fan yelled, “Urgency,” after Amed Rosario beat Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoán Moncada’s throw to first in the first inning Wednesday. The Cleveland Guardians had it on display. The Sox did not play up to that level and find themselves in a dire situation after an 8-2 loss in front of 22,606 at Guaranteed Rate Field. It was a tough evening defensively for Moncada, who was charged with an error during the Guardians’ two-run first. And it was an uninspiring performance all around for the Sox, who fell to six games behind the Guardians in the American League Central with 13 games remaining. Cleveland’s magic number to clinch the division is seven. The Sox have lost the first two of a critical three-game series. Tuesday’s game was a hard-fought 10-7 defeat in 11 innings. Wednesday’s didn’t feature that same intensity early. The Sox nearly got out of a bases-loaded situation in the first when Oscar Gonzalez hit a grounder to third. Moncada stepped on the bag but didn’t make a clean throw to first while trying to complete...
A North Carolina sheriff investigating the murder of two teenagers found gunned down on a woodland trail has announced charges against a 17-year-old, and said the suspect - when arrested - would be charged as a juvenile. Lyric Woods, 14, and 18-year-old Devin Clark were last seen on Friday in Orange County, west of Durham. The bodies of the pair were discovered at the weekend on a woodland trail with gunshot wounds. On Tuesday, Charles Blackwood, the sheriff, said that the search for the suspect was continuing, but charges had been filed. They would initially be charged as a juvenile thanks to a 2019 law, which stated that 16 and 17-year-olds would avoid adult charges. If the person is then charged with first degree murder, the case would automatically move to adult courts. Lyric Woods, 14, (left) and 18-year-old Devin Clark were last seen on Friday. Their bodies were confirmed to have been found on Sunday  Family members from both victims have visited the site where their children were found dead, less than two miles from Woods' home RELATED...
Vladimir Putin wants to end the 'problematic' war in Ukraine 'as soon as possible', Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has claimed. The Turkish leader made the stunning declaration last night to US outlet PBS after sharing 'extensive discussions' with his warmongering Russian counterpart at a summit in Uzbekistan last week. 'He is actually showing me that he's willing to end this as soon as possible,' Mr Erdogan said.  'That was my impression, because the way things are going right now are quite problematic.'  The Turk's comments were made less than 24 hours before the United Nations' massive annual summit kicked off this morning in New York, where the war in Ukraine will be an 'unavoidable' topic at the top of the agenda, chief EU diplomat Josep Borrell said. It comes as highly influential Russian nationalist Igor Girkin declared that further economic struggles or military losses brought about by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine could spell the end of Putin's regime.  The former FSB officer, a chief architect in the 2014 annexation of Crimea and pro-Russian rebellion in the Donbas, said: 'All...
Harvey Weinstein has begged a judge to let him see a private dentist rather than have prison medics pull out his rotten teeth and leave gaping holes in his mouth. The disgraced movie producer said his rotten molars had become a dental 'emergency' as he pleaded with a judge at a Los Angeles courtroom. Weinstein, serving 23 years after being convicted of sex charges in New York, said: 'I will pay for the dentist … it will be one trip and one trip only.' The 70-year-old is locked up ahead of an October 10 trial on charges he raped and sexually assaulted five women between 2004 and 2013. But in court Wednesday, he argued he should be allowed a bridge or fake teeth to look 'presentable' at the trial. 'I'm in pain every day. I have cavities and I can't eat because I'm missing teeth,' Weinstein told Judge Lench, reports the New York Post.  Harvey Weinstein (pictured outside Manhattan courthouse in 2020) has begged a judge to let him see a private dentist rather than have prison medics pull out...
Posted by: 09/12/2022 – 09:09 The fear of a nuclear disaster at the Zaporijjia power plant haunts everyone’s mind. The most powerful power plant in Europe and all six of its reactors have been shut down and under Russian control since March. Since late July, the site has been the target of strikes blamed on each other by Ukrainians and Russians. Kyiv accuses Moscow of storing heavy weapons at the base and using it as a base for attacks on Ukrainian positions. According to the IAEA, the International Atomic Energy Agency and the staff and our special envoys in Zaporizhia, the situation there is “unacceptable”. Our Special Envoys in Zaporizhia, In the city, about fifty km from the power plant, we are preparing for the worst. ” We are one centimeter, one millimeter from disaster. The scale of this catastrophe will affect Russia, Europe, and I am not talking about Ukraine. “. The woman issuing this alarm was, until a few days ago, an engineer at the Zaporizhia power station, responsible, among other things, for nuclear safety....
The Buffalo Bills may have pounded the Los Angeles Rams, 31-10, in Thursday's NFL opener, but in the streets surrounding SoFi Stadium, things were considerably more competitive. Former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho posted video on Twitter showing Rams and Bills fans exchanging punches after the game. The skirmish took place in the center of a busy LA intersection until local law enforcement managed to get the situation under control. Sometimes you've got to have a sense of humour to get through the hard times in life, as these pictures show.  Social media users from around the world captured people who would much rather laugh than cry, with the best examples rounded up on Defused.com  and justsomething.co.  A US man with a fake leg got a tattoo saying 'one foot in the grave' to make light of what must have been a really difficult situation to adapt to.  A cat appeared to give her owners the third-degree over a photo frame with a stock image of a dog in it, which they managed to catch on camera with purr-fect timing. (CNN)With this week marking a year since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, football star Nadia Nadim is coming to terms with a "weird feeling."The anniversary comes weeks after a landmark period for women's football: the European Championships attracted record-breaking crowds in England just weeks ago, potentially inspiring a generation of girls and boys to take up the sport. Yet in Afghanistan, where Nadim was born and raised until the age of 11, the contrast is stark and women continue to be marginalized. "In an event like the Euros, you are fighting for equality, seeing these amazing athletes, women athletes performing at the highest level and given respect," explains Nadim, "and then on the other hand, I feel like what's happening in Afghanistan where women are not even allowed to go to school or attend work -- it's so weird and it's so hard to understand."After a year of governing in Afghanistan, the Taliban has yet to be recognized by a single country in the world, with international funding still largely frozen. While the return to the office is and has been gradually happening for a while now (whether it be hybrid or full-time), plenty of workplaces have adopted newfound flexibility with working from home. And, as we all learned in early 2020, slouching on your couch or perching at your kitchen table for your entire workday is a one-way ticket to back pain. That’s where an office chair comes in. The best office chairs let you work from home in comfort, providing plenty of support and ergonomics while torpedoing the odds you’ll deal with aches and pains after sitting all day. And, if they happen to look good in the process, even better. Naturally, there are different factors to consider when it comes to picking the best office chair for you, like how much you want to spend, your home office decor, and what level of adjustability you want. But, once you have a general idea of those basics, you can get shopping. Of...
The woman who narrowly escaped death after Anne Heche's car plowed into her house igniting a fire that destroyed her home and belongings gave a heartfelt message to the late actress' family and friends.  Despite her own losses, Lynne Mishele expressed her sorrow on her Instagram page a few hours after it was confirmed that Heche had been taken off life support due to brain injury caused by smoke inhalation. 'The news of Anne Heche passing is devastating. Her family and her friends and her children especially really have suffered a great loss and my heart goes out for them,' she said. 'This entire situation is tragic and there really are just no words. I am sending love to everyone involved.' The previous day, Mishele thanked her supporters in a video posted on the GoFundMe page that was created on her behalf by neighbors and the owners of the house. ‘Hi everyone, it's Lynne Mishele still recovering and trying to figure out up from down, but I did want to send a huge, huge thank you to everybody from all...
(CNN)The FBI and the Justice Department are damned if they do and damned if they don't on the question of whether to promptly explain in public why they searched for missing documents at former President Donald Trump's Florida resort.Attorney General Merrick Garland is facing a cacophony of demands from Republicans to address the operation, including being threatened with withering oversight if the GOP wins the House in November's midterm election. His failure to do so already has created a vacuum filled by Trump's fury, misrepresentations of the search and now conspiracy theories that the bureau planted incriminating evidence at the home of the former President. The conservative media machine is in meltdown mode. Several of the most pro-Trump lawmakers and pundits who excoriated liberal "defund the police" rhetoric are now demanding the defunding and the flushing out of the FBI. This is quite a slogan for a party that prides itself on supporting law and order. And it could portend serious damage to the bureau under a potential future Republican Congress or president -- not to mention the neutering of the...
The Chicago Bears open the preseason in three days against the Kansas City Chiefs at Soldier Field. Linebacker Roquan Smith won’t be in uniform as he continues his hold-in — now with a trade request. Smith’s situation, naturally, is the top question in Brad Biggs’ weekly Bears mailbag. How will the Roquan Smith situation be resolved? — Stan K., Cedarburg, Wis. My crystal ball is in the shop getting a tune-up for the regular season, so I can’t use it to answer this question. I will say that as often as a trade request results in an actual trade, there are just as many instances — probably more — when a trade request is simply a tactic in a protracted negotiation. If I had to venture a guess, I think the Bears will wind up reaching an extension agreement with Smith. Trading Smith right now would be especially difficult. In a more typical situation in which a player requests a trade, the team might grant the player and his agent permission to seek one. That would involve the agent calling...
The Chicago Bears have made Roquan Smith off-limits to media since training camp opened last month. The inside linebacker has gotten his word out, however, sending a message to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport indicating he has requested a trade. Smith has been present for training camp but has staged a “hold-in,” meaning he is present but not participating in hopes of receiving a new contract. Smith’s long statement indicates that he has reached a boiling point in trying to negotiate a contract without an agent. This, no doubt, escalates the challenge for first-year general manager Ryan Poles. “I wanted to be a Bear for my entire career, help this team bring a Super Bowl back to our city,” Smith’s statement read. “However, they have left me no choice than to request a trade that allows me to play for an organization that truly values what I bring to the table.” The Bears placed Smith on the physically unable to perform list at the outset of camp, a peculiar move and one that came without an explanation for what injury he...
It's not often you will hear Terrell Owens admit he is concerned.  Throughout an illustrious 16-season career Owens personified fearlessness, dismissing the opinions of media, fans and sometimes teammates, on the way to a bust in Canton. Things have been less pleasant of late for the 48-year-old after an incident with a neighbor he derisively labeled 'Karen.' In the aftermath, Owens elucidated he 'could have died' if circumstances had have been different. Associated Press PARIS — French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne warned that France is facing its “most severe drought” ever recorded and announced the activation of a government crisis unit. Borne said in a written statement on Friday that many areas in France are going through a “historic situation” as the country endures its third heatwave this summer. “The exceptional drought we are currently experiencing is depriving many municipalities of water and is a tragedy for our farmers, our ecosystems and biodiversity,” the statement said. Weather forecasts suggest that the heat, which increases evaporation and water needs, could continue for the next 15 days, possibly making the situation even more worrying, the statement stressed. The government’s crisis unit will be in charge of monitoring the situation in the hardest-hit areas and coordinate measures like bringing drinking water to some places. It will also monitor the impact of the drought on France’s energy production, transport infrastructure and agriculture. French energy giant EDF said on Friday it had to temporarily cut power production at two of its nuclear plants which use river water...
A person removes the nozel from a pump at a gas station on July 29, 2022 in Arlington, Virginia.Olivier Douliery | AFP | Getty Images You'd be hard-pressed now to find a recession in the rearview mirror. What's down the road, though, is another story. There is no historical precedent to indicate that an economy in recession can produce 528,000 jobs in a month, as the U.S. did during July. A 3.5% unemployment rate, tied for the lowest since 1969, is not consistent with contraction. But that doesn't mean there isn't a recession ahead, and, ironically enough, it is the labor market's phenomenal resiliency that could pose the broader economy's biggest long-run danger. The Federal Reserve is trying to ease pressures on a historically tight jobs situation and its rapid wage gains in an effort control inflation running at its highest level in more than 40 years. "The fact of the matter is this gives the Fed additional room to continue to tighten, even if it raises the probability of pushing the economy into recession," said Jim Baird, chief investment...

We came to Taiwan to listen to, learn from and show our support for the people of Taiwan, who have built a thriving Democracy that stands as one of the freest and most open in the world." U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken criticized China's missile launches as a "significant escalation," the Daily Mail reported. NBC News reported that the rising tensions in the region look far different from a similar situation in 1995-96 when "the U.S. Navy sent warships through the Taiwan Strait and there was nothing China could do about it." “It’s a very different situation now,” Michele Flournoy, a former undersecretary of defense for policy in the Obama administration,...
Sad records fall one after another. Due to global warming and rising temperatures, droughts are occurring everywhere in France, and are changing the country’s landscape. Snow disappears from peaks, rivers dry up and lake levels drop. A situation that has a strong impact on biodiversity, but also on the economic activities of the people and the regions concerned. July 2022 was the driest month on record Since 1959, Météo is the beginning of France’s measurements. Already, in June, an early and severe drought will affect the country. Aerial photos from American company Planet Lab reveal a scenario captured by satellites. Between June 2021 and June 2022, the comparison is striking. Snow is disappearing from the peaks The evolution of the peaks of the French Alps is evident from photographs taken by the Planet Lab satellites. In one year we see the snow melt and almost disappear from many peaks of the French Alps in Savoy. In the Vanoise massif, the Grande Motte glacier in Dignes has until now been the only option for summer skiing for residents and tourists. This...

Not for weeks, months Meteorologists and climatologists are sounding the alarm : Famine May hit France in the summer of 2022. At this point, the time for warnings is over: here we are, and the drought is really here. Britney Spears put herself in a particularly scary situation Tuesday night and for a pretty mundane reason: Her Mercedes suddenly stopped in a lane of U.S. Route 101 because it ran out of gas. TMZ reported that the California Highway Patrol received a call around 10 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a white luxury sedan blocking the third lane of southbound 101, just north of Balboa Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley. Officers said they arrived to find the pop star seated in the back seat of a passerby’s vehicle. That’s when Spears informed them that she ran out of gas while driving, and her car stopped in the middle of the freeway, TMZ reported. CHP officers managed to get Spears’ Mercedes moved to safety and waited with her until her husband, Sam Asghari, arrived to pick her up. While Spears remained calm in a hazardous situation and thanked officers for their help, the fact that she got into that situation in the first place begs some questions. Given that she’s driving a pricey car, it’s fair to assume...

TN-5 candidate and former Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives Beth Harwell criticized liberal prosecutors and the defund the police movement in comments that she made to The Tennessee Star on Friday regarding the case of Jose Alba who was charged with second-degree murder the New York City Democrats said was a clear instance of self defense. “It seems liberal prosecutors and district attorneys are more focused on cracking down on law abiding citizens than criminals.” Said Beth Harwell. “What happened in New York to Jose Alba is troubling. That man was trying to defend himself and after being attacked by a career criminal who was on parole for assaulting a police officer,” she said. “Criminals around the country are emboldened by the defund the police movement and by the liberal court systems who never enforce the laws on the books. Our law enforcement officers are doing everything they can, but the legal system is failing us by letting criminals off the hook,” added the TN-5 candidate. A six-month-old baby in Tennessee with a heart defect has finally been added to the waiting list for a transplant, after his deeply religious evangelical parents were left distraught by a doctor's order that the baby must be vaccinated first. August Stoll was born in December, and his heart defect was diagnosed when he was 13 days old. He has spent much of his young life in Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville, and in June had heart surgery. But the results were not as expected, his mother, Hannah, said, and doctors said he needed a transplant. 'Very long story short, the transplant team (specifically Dr. David Bearl) gave us an ultimatum that if we did not give August a series of vaccines, he would keep him off the transplant list,' wrote Hannah Stoll on June 24, on the website Tennessee Stands, a libertarian and religious organization.  Six-month-old August Stoll is pictured in a photo the family shared on Instagram. The baby is now awaiting a lifesaving heart transplant. It is unclear if he has now been vaccinated: his mother Hannah...

Germany plans to compensate for a cut in Russian gas supplies by increasing the burning of coal — the most carbon-intensive fossil fuel in terms of emissions.Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty Images Germany has said the deteriorating gas market situation means Europe's largest economy must limit the use of natural gas for electricity production and burn more coal for a "transitional period." Economy Minister Robert Habeck on Sunday warned that the situation is going to be "really tight in winter" without precautionary measures to prevent a supply shortage. As a result, Germany will seek to compensate for a cut in Russian gas supplies by increasing the burning of coal — the most carbon-intensive fossil fuel in terms of emissions and therefore the most important target for replacement in the transition toward renewable alternatives. "That's bitter, but it's almost necessary in this situation to reduce gas consumption. We must and we will do everything we can to store as much gas as possible in summer and autumn," the Green Party's Habeck said in a statement, according to a translation. "The gas...
It took some time, yes, but the Pirates are making the right call by promoting prospect Oneil Cruz to the majors. It was always a matter of when, not if, Cruz would be promoted to MLB from the Bucs’ minor-league system. However, fans in Pittsburgh quickly grew impatient with the major-league product given a recent string of losses. A long homestand turned out to be the perfect time to give Cruz another taste of big-league action. Per FanSided MLB insider Robert Murray, Cruz is likely to be promoted by the Pirates. Shortstop Oneil Cruz is being called up by the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to a source familiar with the situation. — Robert Murray (@ByRobertMurray) June 19, 2022 General manager Ben Cherington teased the possibility of promoting Cruz on Sunday, and he was conveniently held out of the lineup in Indianapolis, signaling a decision was close. That smoke signal was actually correct this time around. “There’s a chance, sure,” Cherington said Sunday morning on 93.7 The Fan. “This is a case where development is going to continue, no matter what level...
Then The first steps taken in MayDue to storms in the first week of June, as it is colder and sunnier than previous weeks, “the meteorological drought (which) mitigated somewhat, but the province continues its activity.” They were very significant from the beginning of time, “he recalled. Levels “usually equivalent to being observed at the end of July” This rain, often stormy, benefited the plants at the beginning of the month, but had no effect on the flow of the rivers, even in low waters. The province explains that these conditions are “usually equivalent to those observed at the end of July.” Only the water levels in Pays de Gex show satisfactory levels. This is why new measures have been taken: all of the department’s surface water management beds are now on alert. “Plaine de l’Ain” is now alert and “Dombes-Sud” is even more cautious. Americans continue to register bleak assessments of the state of the U.S. economy, with a majority stating pessimistic views of their own situation as well as the overall national picture. A combined 83 per cent of Americans now say the state of the economy is either poor or not so good, according to a new Wall Street Journal-NORC poll released Monday. (CNN)He may be arguably the most sought-after midfielder in European football, but Aurélien Tchouaméni isn't letting that distract him as he strives for self-improvement. As a boy, the 22-year-old Tchouaméni says he was instilled with a hunger for greatness -- a work ethic that still rings true today."When I was young, my parents told me you can do anything you want, but at the end, you have to be the best," he tells CNN Sport in an exclusive interview at the end of May. "If you want to work in a company, you have to be the director of this company; if you want to be a chef, you have to work in the best restaurants."This mentality allows me to be the person who I am today."Read MoreFor weeks, speculation has been circulating about where Tchouaméni, who has just completed his second season with AS Monaco in France, will be playing next season. (CNN)In most other pockets of the federal government, a public employee's decision to lawyer up in the face of an internal investigation would be a no-brainer. But for Supreme Court clerks now being asked to cooperate with new steps in the court's leak probe, such a move could upend the trajectories of their careers.Legal experts have said that the disclosure to Politico of a draft Supreme Court opinion ending the right to an abortion is likely not, by itself, a crime. But clerks now are in a precarious position with the move -- as reported exclusively by CNN Tuesday -- by court officials tasked with leading the investigation to ask that they turn over private phone data and sign affidavits. A clerk may potentially be viewed with suspicion if they hesitate to cooperate or seek outside counsel before participating.Exclusive: Supreme Court leak investigation heats up as clerks are asked for phone records in unprecedented move"The clerks are probably the most vulnerable workers who had access to that information in the building, because their career could be dramatically affected by how...
A Friday press conference with Texas Department of Safety Director Steven McCraw left many viewers shocked, including members of the media who questioned the continually changing timeline and decisions made at the scene of the Uvalde elementary school shooting. During the press conference, McCraw revealed that the on-scene commander at the school made the decision to delay entry into a barricaded room where the gunman was with students, some of them dialing 911 and begging for police help. According to McCraw, it was thought the situation had moved from an active shooter situation into one where the gunman was barricaded and no children were at risk. He admitted it was the wrong decision to make. “Seven words that will forever haunt the community of Uvalde, Texas: of course it was the wrong decision,” CNN’s John King said immediately after the press conference, quoting McCraw. It is now known the shooter was not confronted for an extended period of time, with a Border Patrol tactical team even having their own breach delayed by almost an hour by local police,...
Fox News guest Buck Sexton said Tuesday on Tucker Carlson Tonight that those who criticize politicians who can but won’t enact legislation to help prevent mass shootings like the one at a Texas elementary school earlier in the day are “hurting the situation.” Host Tucker Carlson hypothesized that mental illness could have played a part in the shooting. Many on the left, he claimed, “don’t seem that interested in the fact that there are an awful lot of tragically, sometimes dangerously mentally ill people wandering around all of a sudden.” He then asked, “Am I the only one to notice this?” Sexton said a discussion about mental illness “would be a helpful conversation for the country to have, and obviously in this moment of real tragedy, there is a need for unity and healing in the country as much as we can to try to achieve something in the aftermath of evil like this.” But Sexton then criticized those like Sen. Chis Murphy (D-CT) and President Joe Biden for calling for action to stop mass shootings, and mocked the effectiveness...
