I don't really want to go into the details of the end of my marriage to the journalist Julie Burchill.  Just let me say that after ten years together, Julie had grown bored with me and fallen in love with someone else. It happens. Our break-up wasn’t easy on our ten-year-old son Jack – but divorce is rarely easy.  We did the classic we-both-love-you and nothing-is-going-to-change speech that divorcing parents always make.  In the days that followed the end of my marriage, I told myself I had to man up for Jack’s sake. There was no time for sorrow and self-pity. My main task was helping Jack adjust to this big scary change by creating a sense of continuity. The toughest challenge I faced in those early days was trying to hide my sadness from Jack. The toughest challenge Jack faced was hiding his sadness from me. No doubt this makes them feel better, but I suspect it provides little comfort for children. In the days that followed, I told myself I had to man up for Jack’s sake. There...
As King Charles settles into his role as the monarch and head of state following his accession to the throne, he has shown how he is holding his mother, Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II dear. In a photo published last night of King Charles at work in the Eighteenth Century Room at Buckingham Palace, there were a few subtle nods to his late mother and father, the late Duke of Edinburgh, which showed how the monarch will remember their influence when carrying out his royal duties. Most striking was the black-and-white photo of the Queen and Prince Philip which sat on the side table behind the King's desk while he worked on reviewing documents from his red box.  King Charles III was hard at work as he reviewed official documents from his red box during his first days as the monarch following the death of his mother (Pictured in the Eighteenth Century Room at Buckingham Palace) Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (pictured with the red box at Sandringham in February 2022) began every single day reviewing documents from...

Brooklyn, 23, and his wife-of-five-months, Nicola, 27, appear to be the epitome of a doting couple on social media. Dear Amy: Should I accompany my husband to his parents’ house in order to tell them that we are getting divorced, after 32 years of marriage? He and I have been together since high school and have lived within five minutes of my in-laws for 30 years. We see them at least once a month. After much careful consideration, we have decided that a divorce is the most responsible path for us, for reasons I won’t begin to explain. My husband asked me to go with him to tell his parents, but I am conflicted. I feel that closure is important and respectful, but we are not divorcing because everything is wonderful. I feel like my husband knows it’ll be easier for him if I am with him, but I do not want to project like everything is OK. What are your thoughts? What are some ways I can handle this news? Before Aaron Judge was the face of the Yankees, he was just another face - quite literally. During his incredible rookie season, Judge sat in New York's bustling Bryant Park for a Jimmy Fallon segment merely wearing a pair of glasses as a disguise.  With just the frames on, the outfielder was able to trick unsuspecting Yankees fans he spoke to, and his face wasn't the only thing they were forgetting. 'Adam Judge,' one fan incorrectly said right in front of him. 'I think he's gonna be a superstar.' Five years later, that prediction has proved to be true, though Judge no longer enjoys the same anonymity. Aaron Judge has already hit 57 home runs this season, and looks well on his way to an MVP The 30-year-old is in the midst of a historic season, with a league-leading 57 home runs with 21 games left to play. Four more would tie the AL record set by another Yankee, Roger Maris, in 1961. But while Judge is now arguably the greatest player in the sport, it wasn't always a foregone...

As olive branches go, it’s very Victoria Beckham. After months of speculation about frosty relations with her son Brooklyn’s new in-laws, he and his wife Nicola have been invited to Victoria’s Paris Fashion Week show at the end of the month. ‘Everyone is invited, including Brooklyn and Nicola,’ I’m told. ‘Although it’s not definite yet that they will come.’ All concerned are hoping the newlyweds will attend and that the families will be reunited — not least because the fall-out between them has caused the Beckhams a great deal of pain. As first revealed in this paper, an icy silence has descended between Nicola and her mother-in-law Victoria. Everyone has been invited to the Fashion Week in Paris including the newlyweds (pictured)  Starting from the wedding in April, the pair have pointedly failed to like each other’s posts on social media. They have spent time together only once, on a night out in Italy in July. Former President Donald Trump accused Pennsylvania lieutenant governor and Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman of doing hard drugs, all without producing any kind of tangible evidence to back his claim up. As Trump gave a speech in Wilkes Barre, PA on Saturday night, he eventually managed to break off of his railing against the FBI in order to try rallying support for Republican senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz. This part of the speech began with Trump slamming Fetterman for his tendency to wear casual clothes in his public appearances. This guy is a disaster. He comes in with a sweatsuit on. I’ve never seen him wear a suit. A dirty, dirty, dirty sweatsuit. It’s really disgusting. You know, I’m a clean freak. I’m a clean freak, Oz! I don’t like those dirty sweatsuits. They’re disgusting. Former President Donald Trump said he takes serious issue with Lt. Gov. John Fetterman's uniquely casual fashion choices, accusing the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate nominee of dressing "like a teenager getting high in his parents basement" at his Saturday rally. A Black student is ditching his South Dakota high school after administrators ordered him to cut his hair, saying his current style didn’t adhere to district policy—a rule critics call discriminatory BS. His adoptive parents, who are white, said they are unsure which school Braxton will attend, but they know that he will not be back at O’Gorman. “We don’t necessarily agree with the rule,” Braxton’s father, Derrick Schafer, told the Argus Leader. “We think it’s culturally biased.” The student handbook of O’Gorman High School in Sioux Falls dictates that students must keep their hair tinted in “the realm of normal hair color” for the child. Also, their hair “must be neat and clean in appearance and must not be a distraction to others.” “Males must keep hair length above the eyes and not touching the collar,” the policy states. “Sideburns must not extend below the ear lobe. By JIM VERTUNO AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his company Free Speech Systems are worth up to $270 million, an economist testified Friday to a jury trying to determine if Jones should have to pay punitive damages to the family of a 6-year-old killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. The same jury ordered Jones to pay Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis $4.1 million in compensation for defamation. Jurors began considering additional punitive damages Friday as a separate issue. The parents want to punish Jones for a decade of pushing false hoax claims that they say led to a decade of trauma and abuse from the Infowars host’s followers. Bernard Pettingill, who was hired by the plaintiffs to study Jones’ net worth, said records show that Jones withdrew $62 million for himself in 2021, when default judgments were issued in lawsuits against him. “That number represents, in my opinion, a value of a net worth,” Pettingill said. “He’s got money put in a bank account somewhere.” The money that flows into Jones’ companies eventually...

Alex Jones may have more than civil penalties to worry after he finishes his $150 million defamation case brought by the parents of a six-year-old slain at Sandy Hook Elementary school - he could be looking at prison time for perjury. Jones, who was sued for defamation by the family of Jesse Lewis for spreading false theories that the massacre was a hoax, claimed he had turned over all text and cell phone information pertinent to the case. But Mark Bankston, the lawyer for parents, revealed Jones's lawyer accidentally sent two years of the conspiracy theorist's text messages that appear to directly contradict his sworn testimony. The inconsistency in the testimony could serve to undermine Jones's credibility in the civil case, but legal experts say he exposed himself to a perjury charge that could carry up to 10 years in prison in Texas.  Alex Jones appears to be dumbstruck by the revelation that his lawyer accidentally sent two years worth of text messages that the InforWars hosted had denied having Mark Bankston, the lawyer for the parents of a six-year-old...
The January 6 House Committee will subpoena Alex Jones' emails and text for any contact with Donald Trump after his lawyers mistakenly sent them to the lawyers of Sandy Hook parents.  Sources told Rolling Stone that the committee is preparing to request the data from Jones' attorneys after it was revealed they sent emails and texts to Sandy Hook families despite swearing under oath that the messages didn't exist.  Jones had been originally subpoenaed by the committee last November as the panel focused on his role for riling up demonstrators at the Capitol on January 6 before the deadly riot began.  The January 6 House Committee is planning to subpoena Alex Jones' emails and texts for communications with Donald Trump after it was revealed that his lawyers had sent messages to the lawyeres of Sandy Hook parents  This is a developing story.

Members of Alex Jones's legal team "messed up" and sent over a file believed to contain all of the Infowars host's text messages going back two years, a Sandy Hook lawyer revealed Wednesday. Lawyer Mark Bankston, who is representing the parents of victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting, said the file proves Jones lied when he said during discovery that he searched his phone for communications mentioning Sandy Hook and did not find relevant material for the trial. HERE'S WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT ALEX JONES'S DEFAMATION TRIAL BROUGHT BY SANDY HOOK PARENTS "Did you know that 12 days ago, 12 days ago, your attorneys messed up and sent me an entire digital copy of your entire cellphone with every text message you've sent for the past two years, and when informed, did not take any steps to identify it as privileged or protected in any way?" Bankston said. "That is how I know you lied to me when you said you didn't have text messages about Sandy Hook." "See, I told you the truth....
Sergio Flores/Getty Images As the parents of a six-year-old child murdered in the Sandy Hook massacre prepared to take the witness stand Monday in the defamation trial against Alex Jones, who repeatedly called the massacre a hoax, new details have emerged regarding the threats and harassment the parents faced as a result of Jones’ words. Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, the parents of Jesse Lewis, filed suit against Jones in an Austin, Texas courtroom and were expected to testify Monday. Their forensic psychologist Roy Lubit took the stand first and detailed the fear the couple lived with after Jones accused their murdered child of being a crisis actor in an elaborate conspiracy. During his testimony, Lubit told the courtroom that the couple was forced to hire private security to protect themselves from Jones’ followers. “They are very, very frightened of someone, some follower of Jones, trying to kill them,” Lubit testified. “No, it’s not unreasonable. I think it’s— there’s a real threat,” he added when questioned about the reality the couple faces. Law&Crime’s Adam Klasfeld summed up Lubit’s testimony, noting...
Matt Eberflus sometimes likes to dust off a Lou Holtz quote that he has kept in mind during his 30-year career climb to become the Chicago Bears head coach. “You improve yourself by the people you meet and the books you read,” Eberflus said, paraphrasing the Hall of Famer. One version of Holtz’s quote also includes “the dreams you dream.” That part has been clear to Eberflus for a long time. It first occurred to him in high school that he would like to be a coach when two assistants took a special interest in helping Eberflus, then a safety, learn the linebacker position. Since that realization, he has gathered information along the way from successful mentors: High expectations from Nick Saban. Establishing an identity from Gary Pinkel. Teaching players from Rod Marinelli. Eberflus stowed away principles, skills and concepts so that when the Bears hired him in January to be the 17th head coach in franchise history, he knew how he wanted to run his team. In the months leading up to the opening of training camp last week,...
A seven-year-old boy was found dead inside a washing machine at his parents' Texas home on Thursday morning, two hours after he had been reported missing to police. Troy Khoeler's body was found inside a top-loading washing machine in the garage of his family's Spring, Texas, home at 7:20am, after his adoptive parents called 911 to report him missing at about 5:20am. It is unclear if there was water in the machine or whether the lid was closed when Troy was found. He was fully clothed. His cause of death has still not been released. Police have not commented on whether foul play is determined, but a criminal investigation is underway and homicide detectives interviewed the parents after Troy's body was found. They are being interviewed separately, as is standard procedure during possible criminal probes.   Troy was fostered and then adopted by his parents in 2019, police said. They said there were no prior records indicating that the home was an abusive one.  Troy Khoeler's body was found inside a top-loading washing machine in the garage of his family's Spring,...
The wealthy young Briton who was horrifically killed in Greece when he walked into a helicopter's spinning rotor blade has been named.  Former public schoolboy Jack Fenton, 22, was struck when he walked behind the Bell 407 helicopter while its engines were still engaged at 6.20pm in Athens yesterday, after flying back from the tourist hotspot of Mykonos with three friends. According to local media, the Oxford Brookes student, who went to the £36,000-a-year Sutton Valence boarding school in Maidstone, Kent, was taking a selfie when he was hit by the high-speed rotor in the head. Emergency services were called to the private heliport on the outskirts of the Greek capital but the victim is thought to have been killed instantly. Investigators are probing the circumstances of the accident but the pilot could face manslaughter charges if he told the passengers to exit the helicopter before the engine and propellers had stopped. Former public schoolboy Jack Fenton (pictured), 22, was said to have been using his mobile phone at the time of the accident last night The young Briton horrifically...

A four-month-old baby was allegedly wrenched from the arms of his parents and tossed to his death by a raging troop of monkeys in India last week. The horrifying incident took place in the rural village of Dunka, close to Bareilly in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, where Nirdesh Upadhyay was standing on the terrace of his three-story house with his wife and their baby son. The trio were enjoying a lazy Friday evening up on the terrace when a troop of the primates clambered onto the roof and surrounded them. After futile efforts to bat the monkeys away, the new parents ran towards the stairs in an attempt to escape but Nirdesh, who was carrying his son, stumbled and dropped the child.  In a split second before either parent could react, one of the monkeys grabbed the baby boy by the hand and hurled him off the roof.  Distraught, the parents managed to get back inside the house and tore downstairs to their son's aid, but the infant reportedly died at the scene. The incident is now...
