The icy wilderness stretches to a formidable-looking horizon as the rising sun paints the cloud-flecked sky ever-changing shades of crimson and gold.  I watch its mesmerising ascent from the top of a mountain in Trysil, Norway and a blissfully empty ski run below, its corduroy patterned surface gently beckoning.  Snow is a given in Norway; there’s no crossing of fingers and it’s this guarantee that adds to confidence when booking a holiday. It’s a privilege to sit here before the resort wakes up and I am determined to savour the panorama and the peace. Discovery star 'Dirty Water Don' and his team have become the first to dive into New York City's East River in search of Wooly mammoth tusks.  Mammoth bone expert John Reeves kicked off a 'bone rush' in the Big Apple after revealing the location of 500,000 tusks reportedly dumped into the river in the 1940s.  Don Gann, 35, who starred in the first episode of Discovery's 'Sewer Divers,' said he was not shocked by the revelation given that he and his friends have found all sorts of old treasures and even human bodies at the bottom of the East River.  Although he's excited by the prospect of finding the mammoth tusks, which can go for around $20,000 a piece, he warned that the search could get out of hand quickly as more and more people show up to survey the waters.  'I expect someone will find something soon, and it’ll cause a commotion and get a bunch more people down here,' Gann predicted. 'It’ll snowball from there and it’s going to end when someone gets killed or injured' 'And at that point,...
A bone rush could be underway in New York City's East River after a Wooly mammoth expert revealed the location where 500,000 tusks were reportedly dumped.  Speaking on the Joe Rogan podcast, gold miner turned bone mogul John Reeves said he wanted to kick off a 'bone rush' and mapped out the location of 50 tons of mammoth tusks that could be at the bottom of the East River.  Reeves read from a draft report from the Fairbanks mining District Alaska, which detailed the transportation of 500,000 tusks from Fairbanks to New York City's American Museum of Natural History in the 1940. Reeves, who owns thousands of acres of mining grounds in the area and got a hold of the report and spoke to its lead author, Richard Osborne of the University of Alaska, said the museum 'ran out of storage' and dumped the bones.  The report revealed the location of the dumping site at East River Drive and 65th Street.   Wooly mammoth Tusks can go for around $20,000 each depending on their condition, putting the potential value at the bottom of the river...

The Texas attorney caught on video pulling a gun on his ex-girlfriend inside the bar where she worked was found dead in his home on Wednesday. Gavin Rush, 41, was discovered by officers who had visited the property on Lyndhurst Street to perform a welfare check. It is not clear if he died by suicide, but a police spokesperson told DailyMail.com his death is 'not considered suspicious and the investigation is still ongoing.'   Rush was arrested on November 26 after he allegedly tried to kill his ex-girlfriend inside The Anderson Mill Pub, before patrons wrestled him to the ground.  He was released from Travis County Jail on bail two days later after posting just $4,000 of the $40,000 bond required - despite facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving family violence. Rush had also previously been charged with assault/family violence against a different woman in 2017, though the case was eventually dismissed.   It is alleged the former attorney, who has a history of domestic violence and self-destructive behavior, snapped last week after learning his former girlfriend did not...
Not a day goes by in Washington that someone in the national security community doesn’t warn the United States is falling dangerously behind China. Usually, it’s a reference to the U.S. military’s ability to deter China from seizing Taiwan. But there’s another area where China is racing to get ahead of America: space and, more specifically, the moon and its potential water and mineral resources. In November, both China and the U.S. experienced giant leaps in the advancement of their space exploration goals. STUNNING PICTURES FROM NASA'S ORION SPACECRAFT SHOW MOON ECLIPSING EARTH America, for the first time in 50 years, sent an unmanned space capsule flying toward the moon. It was the first step in NASA’s Artemis program, named after Apollo's mythological twin sister, which plans to send four astronauts to circle the moon in 2024, followed by a moon landing as soon as 2025. Meanwhile, the Chinese made history in low Earth orbit, sending three astronauts to join three already aboard its Tiangong space station to complete its construction and conduct China’s first-ever...

A New York City commuter has been stabbed in the neck while trying to break up a fight between two women on a Manhattan subway. The latest violent attack comes as a 62-year-old grandfather who was randomly shoved on the tracks over the weekend issued a tearful plea begging Mayor Eric Adams to take action and make the network safe again. On Monday, the MTA appeared to take some small steps towards that goal by asking state judges to expand a 2020 law banning people convicted of sex crimes on the subways or of assaulting transit employees to include those who attack their fellow passengers. Crimes on the subways are now up 41 percent over last year, according to recent data from the NYPD — as subway murders have risen to their highest level in 25 years with nine reported so far this year. Assaults on the subway system are also up 17 percent from the same time last year, with 431 attacks reported as of October 16 compared to 370 at the same time last year. But Mayor Eric Adams...
In the press box at Gillette Stadium before Monday night’s game against the New England Patriots, Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles told reporters what he saw as the next step for his young team. “For the age of our team, there have been a lot of games where we’re knocking on the door to win games,” Poles said. “The next step is learning how to finish.” Nearly five hours later, the Bears granted his wish, scoring 23 unanswered points from late in the second quarter into the fourth quarter to pull off a 33-14 victory over the Patriots. The game had some historical significance beyond the Bears beating the Patriots for the first time since 2000 and the first time ever in New England. It prevented Patriots coach Bill Belichick from passing Bears founder George Halas for sole possession of second place on the all-time wins list, for a week at least. But the significance of the game for this season was that Justin Fields led the offense to 390 yards — including 243 on the ground — and...

The burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas is the chief driver of the climate crisis.Vcg | Visual China Group | Getty Images Nearly half of the coal industry intends to develop new projects to exploit the world's dirtiest fossil fuel, according to German campaign group Urgewald, with many companies refusing to retire assets even as extreme weather events become worse and more frequent across the globe. An annual update from Urgewald and 40 partner NGOs published Thursday found that 490 of the 1,064 companies on its Global Coal Exit List were pursuing new coal power plants, coal mines or new coal transport infrastructure. It means 46% of the companies surveyed are committed to expanding despite last year's U.N. climate summit in Glasgow ending with a global agreement to "accelerate efforts towards the phasedown of unabated coal." The research, which represents the world's most comprehensive public database on the coal industry, said less than 3% of those surveyed had announced timely coal exit dates. "Pursuing new coal projects in the midst of a climate emergency is reckless,...

Florida residents were spotted tempting fate by braving the historic Hurricane Ian Wednesday to wakeboard, wave American flags, and even swim in flooded cities - despite raging swells that reached upwards of 18 feet. As much of the state took measures to ready themselves for the storm, these Floridians characteristically threw caution to the wind despite potentially life-threatening conditions. The offenders came from cities across the southwest coast of the peninsula, where the brunt of the storm, then a category 4, was felt - where others flocked to take shelter or found themselves trapped on rooftops as water levels rapidly rose. The ill-advised antics saw some of the daredevils forced to be saved by rescue officials, after defying warnings from city officials such as Governor Ron DeSantis to stay put and wait out the tempest. Meanwhile, the extremely dangerous conditions the storm is unleashing - which include the aforementioned floods and life-threatening storm surge - are expected to persist Thursday, as it advances inland toward the central part of the state. The increment weather, however, did not stop these citizens from getting their...
Things are shifting. These days, more and more of us are waking up to the folly of turning every moment into a race against the clock. We are doing the unthinkable. We are slowing down. And guess what? It turns out that a slow life is not a boring one. On the contrary, slowing down is the best way to live life to the fullest. It makes you calmer, healthier and happier. You do everything better and enjoy it more. Many start by slowing down with food. You are part of this trend if you bake sourdough or shop at a farmers’ market. Carl Honore, author of It's the Journey Not The Destination, reveals that when you slow down on holiday, 'you start noticing things, your senses come alive, you come home recharged... ' Millions are now trying slower forms of medicine (acupuncture or massage) and exercise (yoga or Pilates), too. Consider SuperSlow weightlifting. Instead of taking six seconds to lift and lower a weight, you take 20 seconds. This works the muscles to exhaustion, so it’s more effective. Slowing...

This is the moment a carriage horse collapsed during the Midtown Manhattan rush hour as its driver shouted 'get up, get up!' before police arrived to douse the creature in water and give him an adrenalin shot.  The driver was on the busy 9th Avenue and West 45th Street in Hell's Kitchen as traffic built around him and the horse.  In the footage, taken at around 5pm, he called: 'Get up! Get up! Get up! C'mon, get up' to the animal, whose knees were buckling. He also pulled the reins and slapped him in a bid to make him stand, as people watching on were horrified.  But he failed to get the animal up, with him remaining on the floor exhausted and believed to be suffering with EPM (Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis), while his driver removed the carriage with a pedestrian's help. Police eventually arrived to spray the horse with water. According to videos and witnesses on the busy street, they finally got the animal back on its feet after more than an hour and after giving him an adrenalin shot. ...

The Ravens were either fearful of running out of healthy defensive backs a year ago or took a hard look at their immediate future. Or maybe both. At the end of last week, the Ravens had 19 defensive backs on the roster, including 10 cornerbacks — two of which they could also use at safety. When the Ravens made moves earlier in the offseason to sign or draft this surplus, there were quite a few eyebrows raised. But after seeing two voluntary practices and another scheduled for this week, it’s safe to conclude that these cornerbacks must carry the defense in 2022 until the Ravens can develop a consistent pass rush, a missing element for the past four years. “The guys are out there flying around, communicating, really doing everything we’re asking them to do, and it’s a lot of fun to go out there and actually see it start to come together,” said Mike Macdonald, the team’s first-year defensive coordinator. “That’s really what this phase is all about — the execution, the speed, communication portion — so, right now,...

Astronaut Neil Armstrong’s dusty footprint on the moon bears witness to one of humanity’s greatest technological achievements. And it’s completely unprotected under international law. “Once you blow away the footprint, that’s gone,” said space archeologist Beth O’Leary of New Mexico State University, who is among a growing chorus of experts pleading for formal protection of historic lunar sites and artifacts. Just as UNESCO protects Egyptian pyramids, China’s Great Wall and other precious World Heritage sites on Earth, it must also protect many historic rockets, rovers, landing sites and memorabilia on the moon, they say. It’s been 49 years since humans — the U.S. astronauts of Apollo 17 — last walked on the moon. In the moment Andy died, I was certain of two things: that my beloved was gone, though the critical care team waited a bleak minute before confirming what my heart brokenly and instantly recognised — and that he would never leave. Death alters relationships. It doesn’t end them. It will be two years next month since my husband succumbed to a pneumonia that blindsided doctors with its severity and odd behaviours, defying their every intervention. Later, they would launch an inconclusive investigation, suspecting that Andy, only 64 when he died, had been one of the earliest UK Covid fatalities. He first showed symptoms of the illness that would kill him less than a week after his band, Gang Of Four, rounded off an international tour at packed venues in China. Widowhood came hard on the heels of another loss. My stepfather John died shortly after Andy’s return to London, his cause of death also listed as pneumonia. My mother and I were lucky in one respect; this happened before Covid barred families from hospitals. I was even able to hold...

Rep. Bobby Rush is the 24th House Democrat who will not run in the midterm elections Bobby Rush, 75, will announce Tuesday his retirement at the end of his 15th term in Congress, making him the 24th House Democrat who won't seek reelection in the 2022 midterms. Rush is the only politician to have ever beat Barack Obama in an election, which happened in the 2000 Democratic primary for Illinois's 1st congressional district. Rush still represents that district and has since 1993. His decision to retire now makes two dozen Democrats who are leaving the House, causing panic in the caucus as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tries to cling to her party's majority in the lower chamber. Pelosi can only afford to lose three seats to maintain a majority with a 221-213 split. The Senate is even more precarious as it remains split at 50-50, causing Vice President Kamala Harris to make the tie-breaking vote in any party line results. The razor thin margins has fueled Democrats' concerns that the GOP could take back a majority in either chamber and...
The Miami Dolphins are attacking the quarterback, and they’re coming in droves. Halfway through the season, when the Dolphins started 1-7, they were tied for 28th in the NFL with just 12 sacks. Since, they’ve dropped the quarterback an eye-popping 33 times during their seven-game winning streak. That mark easily leads the league in that span, and it has shot Miami up to No. 1 on the season with 45. The Dolphins (8-7) dropped New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Ian Book eight times in his NFL debut on Monday night. “Obviously, we’re always happy when we get sacks,” said Dolphins defensive coordinator Josh Boyer this week, pointing mainly to the residual impact of the negative play for the opposing offense. “That’s going to put them a little bit off track, which sometimes puts them into a different mentality. It shrinks their call sheet a little bit or you kind of have a little bit of a better idea of maybe what’s coming as opposed to everything’s available to them.” It’s something that could play a key role in Sunday’s pivotal...
The Jets season is down to its final four games, which means time is running out on Mekhi Becton’s potential return from his knee injury. Head coach Robert Saleh remains “hopeful” his starting left tackle will return this year, but acknowledged reality. “Obviously, we are getting down to crunch time. So, if he makes it, awesome. If not, it goes back to George [Fant] and Morgan [Moses],” Saleh said. “They’ve been absolutely phenomenal this year and we haven’t skipped a beat so it just really a credit to those two in the way they’ve been able to work.” Becton suffered a knee injury in the season opener against the Panthers. Gang Green’s first-round pick (11th overall) in the 2020 NFL Draft was diagnosed with a dislocated kneecap and suffered MCL and cartilage damage and it initially was thought to be a season-ending injury. He opted for surgery in mid-September and the timetable was thought to be four to eight weeks. But at the eight-week mark, Becton wasn’t ready to return. His recovery has progressed slowly. Travis Scott took to Instagram Saturday night (pictured) after eight people died during his performance at Astroworld Festival Travis Scott shared his shock after eight people were crushed at his Houston concert on Friday - but the rapper has twice been convicted for encouraging fans to jump security barriers and rush the stage at previous concerts.  Scott, born Jacques Bermon Webster II, posted an emotional video saying he was 'devastated' about the deaths at Houston's Astroworld Fest hours on his Instagram Saturday. He added: 'I can't imagine anything like this happening.' But that has raised eyebrows over footage showing multiple incidents of crowds stampeding towards Scott at prior performances at Lollapalooza in Chicago in 2015, and at an indoor venue in Arkansas in 2017. Meanwhile, a fan who was paralyzed after falling from a balcony during a Scott concert in April 2017 has lashed the singer in Rolling Stone, and blasted him for putting fans' safety at risk. Glenn Youngkin is set to become the first Republican to win statewide office in Virginia since 2009. Youngkin’s victory is also the first major rebound for the GOP after the double whammy of losing the presidency and the Senate in 2020 and early 2021. Cue the commentators scrambling to explain what this election means for the future of the Republican Party. On one side, the MAGA wing of the party will claim that Donald Trump’s support for Youngkin and the extreme popularity the former president retains in the party’s base helped push Youngkin over the edge. Trump himself has already claimed at least partial credit for the win. On the other side, moderates and anti-Trumpers will argue that since Youngkin kept Trump at arm’s length throughout the race, he resisted calls to campaign with Trump, the party is better off with him gone. In reality, this election didn’t show that Trump is still the kingmaker of the Republican Party or that it’s time to return to the milquetoast conservatism of Mitt Romney or Jeb Bush. Instead, it highlighted the triumph...
Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia said on Tuesday said Democrats are not in a 'rush' to pass President Joe Biden's economic agenda – a day after he infuriated some House progressives by refusing to endorse the president's plan. Negotiators have yet to iron out multiple policy issues in the 'framework' agreement the White House announced Friday – and Manchin has refused to endorse it as of yet. The Latest on Afghanistan, where the Taliban declared general “amnesty,” two days after sweeping into the capital, Kabul, and taking over the country: ___ MOSCOW — Russia’s top diplomat on Tuesday said that Moscow was “in no rush” to recognize the new Taliban government in Afghanistan and called for an inclusive dialogue of all political forces in the country. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Russia was “just like all other countries” and “in no rush to recognize” the Taliban government. At the same time, Lavrov noted “encouraging signals from the Taliban, who are declaring their desire to have a government with the participation of other political forces.” His remarks came as the Taliban in Kabul declared an “amnesty” across Afghanistan and urged women to join their government. Lavrov also said Moscow supports “the beginning of an inclusive national dialogue with the involvement of all political and confessional forces in Afghanistan.” Russia designated the Taliban a terrorist organization in 2003, but has since hosted several rounds of talks in Afghanistan, most recently in March, that involved the group. Moscow, which fought...
A swimmer said he was circled by up to 50 sharks in the sea off Dorset while training for his record-breaking bid for the fastest swim around the Isle of Wight. Oly Rush, 36, set off from the glamorous Sandbanks peninsular in Poole for a midnight training swim last month when he described feeling a shark bump against his leg - just 240ft off the coastline. Diving underwater while his friend Ashley McPherson, who accompanied him in a kayak, shone a torch, he started taking pictures of the sharks with his phone concealed in a waterproof case. The plasterer claims dozens of smooth hound sharks, which are common to UK waters and can grow to 4ft in length, circled him for 15 minutes - and even nibbled at his hands and feet, which were not covered by a wet suit.  But rather than swim away, Mr Rush - who made headlines by building his fiancee Tess a £75 hot tub after their wedding was cancelled due to Covid restrictions - basked in the 'fantastic' experience.  Oly Rush, 36, set off...

Canadian marijuana manufacturers are sitting on 1.1 billion grams (2.4 million pounds) of the drug that they can't sell as the country's legalized weed industry runs out of puff.    Last October, Canadian cannabis firms had around 1.1 billion grams of harvested or processed cannabis sitting in storage. Around 95 per cent of that weed is considered ‘largely unsaleable’ because it has been spoiled by time, and because there's just too much existing supply to try and sell it.  The low quality of the products as well as the slow process by which the provinces allowed for licensed stores to sell the cannabis in the years since legalization is being blamed for the destroyed stockpiles.  Big corporate firms that rushed into the newly-legalized industry have also been blamed the for issue by expanding too quickly.  Smaller mom and pop businesses which know their clientele better say some of the rules the corporate giants want - such as growing the drug indoors, to stop teenagers with drones stealing their weed - show how poorly they understand their market.  Canadian marijuana users also...
Getty Ravens DE Calais Campbell rushes Browns QB Baker Mayfield. The Baltimore Ravens have high hopes heading into the 2021 season following four consecutive seasons of disappointing playoff losses, and fans and players alike are hungry for a Super Bowl run. Following a tumultuous offseason that featured key departures and exciting additions, the Ravens roster is beginning to take shape heading into training camp and the preseason. One key area of need for the Ravens is the pass rush.  The Ravens lost their 2020 season leader in sacks and QB pressures, with OLB Matthew Judon signing a four-year, $56 million deal with the New England Patriots, as first reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The Ravens’ other top edge rusher, DE Yannick Ngakoue, signed with the Las Vegas Raiders for $26 million over two years, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.  They will look to replace that production with contributions from veterans, breakout candidates and rookies in 2021.  The Veterans DE Calais Campbell: At the height of his career, Campbell was a game-wrecker who single-handedly blew through opposing offensive...

Khloe and Rob Kardashian Host Adorable Cousin Playdate for True and Dream Gold futures stage U-turn to log first decline in six sessions amid stock-market stumble If Rush is after to defeat Bandido at Ring of Honor’s “Best in the World,” his championship reign will stretch beyond 500 days. © Provided by Sports Illustrated Rush will look to extend his Ring of Honor title reign on Sunday at the Best in the World pay-per-view. He will defend the belt against Bandido, which is a matchup that should be a wonderful clash of styles. Rush is ruthless and violent in the ring, willing to win at all costs. That is a stark contrast from Bandido, the masked luchador who has an incredibly captivating approach in the ring as a babyface. Part of the responsibility for a champion is to make new stars, which Rush will seek to accomplish in this bout. It should be a high-flying, physical affair and serve as a breakout moment for Bandido in his first ROH pay-per-view main event. Currently in the midst of a...
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was the first one out of the dugout to check on Justin Turner after he was nailed in the head by a pitch. Justin Turner missed out on making the NL All-Star team on Sunday. Then he took a pitch to the head. The 36-year-old is in his 13th season in the majors, but he’s not showing his age just yet. He’s averaging .295/.387/.484 with 13 home runs and 41 RBI. His numbers aren’t quite at the All-Star level he reached in 2017, but he’s not too far off. The Dodgers are on a hot streak with nine straight victories. They’re tied for first place in the NL West with the Giants. Sunday’s victory also gave them the season sweep over the Nationals. They’ll stay on the road with a series against the Marlins starting on Monday. Next: Joe Kellys White House jacket has cool backstory

CDC is leaving it up to states to set guidelines for mask wearing, director says What to do if you win a million dollars © Provided by NBC Sports Replay Video SETTINGS OFF HD HQ SD LO Skip Ad Bud Dupree tore his ACL last December, but the need to rehab that injury didn’t stop the Titans from signing him to a five-year, $82.5 million contract as a free agent this offseason. Giving Dupree that kind of deal off a serious injury shows how big of a need the Titans have in their pass rush. They produced just 19 sacks and 72 quarterback hits last season, which didn’t stop them from winning the AFC South but still stood out as a glaring hole on the team. Dupree said this month that it is “no secret” why the Titans signed him, but noted during a Wednesday appearance on NFL Network that he has to do more than pressure quarterbacks to help his new team. “Anytime you get paid to pass rush, you go ahead and get sacks and make big...
