    A 47-year-old man from the region is facing rape and child endangerment charges following an investigation by police and Child Protective Services. Edward Hotalen, of Fallsburg, was arrested after an investigation from the Sullivan County Child Protective Services and New York State Police, authorities announced on Friday, July 1. State Police said Hotalen was charged with: Third-degree rape Third-degree criminal sex act Third-degree sexual abuse Endangering the welfare of a child He was arraigned and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail, $10,000.00 Secure Bond, or $20,000.00 Partially Secure Bond, police said.

(AP) — Delaware prosecutors have reached plea agreements resolving several rape cases against a former University of Delaware athlete already serving a six-year prison sentence for sex offenses. A judge scheduled a plea hearing Wednesday in Sussex County for former UD baseball player Clay Conaway. He’s facing five counts of second-degree rape involving four women. Conaway’s expected to plead no contest to the lesser charge of fourth-degree rape in three of the cases, and guilty to third-degree rape in the other. Fourth-degree rape carries no mandatory prison sentence, while third-degree rape carries a mandatory minimum of two years behind bars.     A 26-year-old Washington state deputy has been charged with third-degree rape of a teenager he met on Tinder where she reportedly claimed she was 19 years old.  Snohomish County sheriff's deputy, Anthony Zayas was placed on administrative leave in August, according to The Herald. Charging papers say Zayas met the girl on Tinder, where she used a fake name and claimed to be 19.  She was 14 and told police he gave her alcohol, court filings say. The charges say he told investigators he took her word for it — after picking her up late at night at a park in Mount Vernon in June — that she was an adult.     A Long Island soccer coach was busted for allegedly raping a teen player on two occasions over the summer, cops said early Friday. Sean Johnsen, 35, of Valley Stream, who coaches a Nassau County soccer club team, had “inappropriate contact” with the 16-year-old girl on both August 17 and 21, Nassau County Police said. He was charged with two counts of third degree rape, two counts of third-degree criminal sex act and endangering the welfare of a child. He is set to be arraigned on Friday in Mineola. Players on Johnsen’s team range in age from 14 to 19 years old, according to police.
    The coach of a youth soccer team on Long Island has been charged with rape, according to authorities. Nassau County Police Special Victims detectives announced on Friday morning, Oct. 30 that Sean Johnsen, 35, of Valley Stream, was arrested for rape of a 16-year-old female player that occurred on Monday, Aug. 17, 2020, and Friday, Aug. 21, 2020 in Westbury. Johnsen is a coach of a Nassau County soccer club team, whose players range in age from 14 to 19 years old.  Johnsen was charged with: two counts of third-degree rape, two counts of third-degree criminal sexual act, endangering the welfare of a child.  He is due to be arraigned on Friday in Mineola.     A Mounds View man was charged with murder after a woman he met on Tinder fatally overdosed on a narcotic he gave her that is commonly referred to as the “date-rape” drug, authorities say. Edward Antonio Zappa, 38, was charged with third-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter after the Ramsey County Medical Examiner determined that Thea Renae Toles, 43, died of toxicity caused by Gamma-Hydroxybutyric Acid, an illegal drug commonly found in liquid form, according to the criminal complaint filed this week in Ramsey County District Court. Edward Zappa The substance has several street names, including “G,” “GHB” “Liquid X,” and “Liquid Ecstasy,” and can cause “hallucinations .. euphoria, drowsiness, decreased anxiety, confusion and memory impairment,” the latter of which led to its use as a “date-rape” drug, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration’s web site.
