Earlier this season, Hester expressed his disappointment in not making the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2022 and again stated his belief that he deserves to join that fraternity. “At the end of the day, when you look at the Hall of Fame you don’t categorize a guy for what position he played,”...
Getty DeMarcus Ware celebrates after a play against the Carolina Panthers. F or the second year in a row, former Denver Bronco DeMarcus Ware is a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The original announcement was supposed to take place on NFL Network Tuesday, January 3, 2023, but was moved to Wednesday out of respect for Damar Hamlin. DeMarcus Ware signed with the Denver Broncos in 2014 after he was released from the Dallas Cowboys after nine seasons. Ware was brought in amongst other free-agent acquisitions like cornerback Aquib Talib and safety T.J Ward to put the then reigning AFC Champion Broncos over the top and win a Super Bowl. Ware’s first season in Denver showed there was a lot of football left in the tank for the veteran pass rusher. He finished the 2014 season with 41 tackles, ten sacks, 15 tackles for loss, 20 quarterback hits, and one interception. The Broncos’ season ended with a 24-13 Divisional Round loss to the Indianapolis Colts, but it showed the makings of a championship team. In 2015,...

The finalists for the official postseason awards voted on by members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America were announced Monday night on MLB Network with Mets’ manager Buck Showalter being among them, as a finalist for the NL Manager of the Year Award. Showalter led the Mets to the second-best season in franchise history and engineered a 24-game turnaround in his first season in Queens. Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker are the other two finalists. The Mets went 101-61 in 2022 under Showalter, reaching the 100-win mark for only the fourth time in franchise history and the first time since 1988. Showalter guided the club to an NL Wild Card berth but the Mets were defeated by the San Diego Padres in three games. The Mets sat atop the NL East for most of the season, dropping the division title on the season’s final weekend to the Atlanta Braves. At one point in the season, the Mets led by as many as 10 games but the Braves played at a historic pace...
Dylan Cease was locked in on Sept. 3. The Chicago White Sox right-hander walked Jake Cave in the third inning and Gilberto Celestino in the sixth but didn’t allow anything else through eight innings against the Minnesota Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field. Cease retired the first two batters in the ninth before Luis Arraez spoiled the no-hit bid with a single to right-center. It was a signature performance in a standout season for Cease, who was named a finalist for the American League Cy Young Award on Monday along with Justin Verlander of the Houston Astros and Alek Manoah of the Toronto Blue Jays. Cease, 26, went 14-8 with a 2.20 ERA in 32 starts. He finished second in the AL in ERA, strikeouts (227) and opponents average (.190) and third in strikeouts per nine innings (11.10). “It was a really great season,” Cease said after his final start of the year Oct. 1 in San Diego, giving credit to pitching coach Ethan Katz and catchers Seby Zavala and Yasmani Grandal. “Definitely a lot of improvements.” Cease’s slider was one...
MTV 'The Challenge: Spies, Lies and Allies' cast Emy Alupei got her “The Challenge” debut last season on “Spies, Lies  and Allies” and she had a very strong rookie season, making it all the way to the final and winning the hearts of her co-stars with her passionate personality. MTV also highlighted the Romanian star as the show helped her launch her single “Alien” and the show’s reunion ended with a live performance of the song. However, some fans of the show weren’t happy with Emy’s casting for the season as a video began circulating of her 2016 performance on X Factor Romania. Emy, who was 18 at the time, was singing and rapping to Nicki Minaj’s song “Only” featuring Chris Brown and in the performance she rapped all the song’s lyrics including racial slurs. On June 3, Emy issued a statement about her performance on Twitter and Instagram, writing, “I want to address my X-factor Romania performance in 2016. Six years ago when I was 18 years old, I performed ‘Only’ by Nicki Minaj on live broadcast...
Q: Everyone is really sleeping on the Heat, even on these awards. But let them, for more motivation to the championship. — Brian. A: Actually, with the exception of Bam Adebayo not being a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year, the Heat came out of the finalists process as well as expected, with Tyler Herro one of the three remaining in contention for Sixth Man of the Year and Erik Spoelstra for Coach of the Year. The Heat did not have a candidate for Most Valuable Player or Rookie of the Year, and it would be a difficult argument for anyone for Most Improved Player other than Herro, with more worthy contenders elsewhere. The question is if there were three finalists named for Executive of the Year (which is voted upon by executives and not the media), would Pat Riley be in that group, considering the additions of Kyle Lowry, P.J. Tucker and Caleb Martin, and the development of emerging undrafted prospects such as Max Strus and Gabe Vincent? The Heat front office assuredly deserves notice for its work,...

But the third-year Celtics forward may bring home a pretty special award this season. His teammates love to have some fun at Williams’ expense, but they also love to have him on the court. So it should come as no surprise that Williams was announced as one of the 12 finalists for the 2021-22 Twyman Stokes Teammate of the Year Award on Wednesday. Getty Carolina Panthers cornerback Stephon Gilmore on October 31, 2021. Joe Douglas and the New York Jets have been proactive in the early stages of NFL free agency signing Pro Bowl guard Laken Tomlinson and re-signing All-Pro special teamer Braxton Berrios, but there is still a lot of work to be done. One recent rumor has been more smoke than fire so far and that was Dan Graziano’s report that the Jets would “break the bank” for a cornerback. The two he suggested have actually already agreed to sign with other franchises. Those players were J.C. Jackson — poached by the Los Angeles Chargers — and Carlton Davis who announced he would re-sign in Tampa Bay.
