A 21-year-old man is facing charges of illegally possessing a gun after authorities discovered the weapon during a domestic incident in Westchester County, police said. On Thursday, Jan. 5, around 1:30 p.m., police in New Rochelle responded to a reported domestic dispute at a residence near the intersection of North Avenue and The Boulevard. Once there, authorities found that there were no injuries from the fight. However, police did discover that a man involved in the dispute, 21-year-old Christopher Bunting of the Bronx, was in possession of a Raven Arms Model MP .25 Caliber handgun. Bunting was then arrested, and charged with the following: Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon; Endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities are asking for the public's help to find a 15-year-old girl who went missing in Westchester County. Police are searching for Hope Eley, age 15, who was last seen in New Rochelle in the area of Iona University, according to an announcement by New Rochelle Police on Thursday, Dec. 15 around 2:45 p.m. Eley is described as having a height of 5' 2", a weight of 125 pounds, light brown hair, and brown eyes, according to police. She was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, ripped blue jeans, and no shoes. She also changes the color of her hair often and may have fake eyelashes, authorities said. A 24-year-old Westchester man was allegedly nabbed with numerous ghost guns during an inter-agency investigation. The incident took place in New Rochelle around 7:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 28. According to Capt. Collins Coyne, of the New Rochelle Police, New Rochelle Police detectives, assisted by detectives from the Westchester County Police Real Time Crime Center and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force executed a search warrant for ghost guns on a New Rochelle home. The warrant was a culmination of efforts of these agencies over a period of several months after receiving information that Jose Solano-Gaspar, age 24, was building ghost guns, Coyne said. The investigation was part of a continuing initiative to combat illegal handguns in New Rochelle as well as Westchester County, he added. Solano-Gaspar was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a firearm and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, police said. Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash at a Westchester intersection. It happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 17 in New Rochelle at the intersection of Main Street and Echo Avenue, and involved a vehicle and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist, Kristopher Johnson, age 20, of New Rochelle, was subsequently transported to the Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition, Captain J. Collins Coyne of the New Rochelle Police Department said. Johnson succumbed to his injuries at 1:32 a.m. on Monday, July 18. Johnson’s family was at the hospital at the time of his passing, police said. The operator of the passenger vehicle, a New Rochelle resident, remained on location and fully cooperated with responding officers, according to police. The New Rochelle Police Traffic Unit is currently investigating the cause of the crash.
Police are investigating an incident in which a 4-year-old child was critically injured in an apparent fall in Westchester, police said. Parents of the autistic boy flagged down New Rochelle Police Department officers at their apartment complex located at 570 5th Avenue on Friday, July 8, and told them their son was missing, and possibly wandered from their apartment, said New Rochelle PD Captain J. Collins Coyne. Officers began to search for the boy then located him behind 570 5th Avenue laying on the grass, unconscious with difficulty breathing, Coyne said. Officers rendered first aid until New Rochelle Fire and Ambulance personnel arrived to transport him to the hospital. Coyne said the boy is currently listed as critical but stable condition. New Rochelle Detectives are investigating the incident and the parents are cooperating with the investigation. "It appears the boy fell from an unknown height and the extent of his injuries are unknown at this time," Coyne said.
A 21-year-old man who was able to temporarily evade police to avoid a traffic stop is facing a host of charges after being busted with an illegal gun in Westchester, police said. In New Rochelle, police detectives stopped a driver on Beechwood Avenue at approximately 10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9 for a vehicle and traffic violation. According to New Rochelle Police Capt. J. Collins Coyne, the driver, city resident Shawn Gilchrest, fled from the detectives during the traffic stop, leading to a short chase that was quickly abandoned. Coyne said that the following day, on Thursday, March 3, Westchester County Probation officers conducted a check on Gilchrest, who was found to be in possession of a loaded 30-round extended magazine with 9mm ammunition as well as parts to a ghost gun. Gilchrest was arrested without incident and charged with: Criminal possession of a weapon; Unlawful possession of certain feeding devices; Reckless endangerment; Unlawful fleeing from a police officer; Obstruction of governmental administration; Reckless driving. No return court date for Gilchrest was announced.
