A TikTok influencer known for preaching the benefits of eating raw meat has admitted to taking steroids to achieve his muscular physique. Brian Johnson - better known by his online pseudonym 'Liver King' - admitted in a six-minute-long video on Friday that he has done steroids in the past and is continuing to receive 0.6 milliliters of testosterone every week. Johnson, 45, rocketed to internet fame late last year when he began posting fitness videos, often shirtless, that showed off his rippling physique and peculiar eating habits. The influencer has repeatedly denied in interviews that he used steroids, saying he 'stays away from that stuff' while amassing a massive following as well as a multimillion-dollar empire.  He instead attributed his physical and financial success to his liver-eating lifestyle - billed to the millions who subscribe to his beliefs as 'ancestral living.'  But he took a different tone on Friday when apologizing to his fans for his years of deceit as he tried to explain that he has self-esteem issues. Letting meat eaters drown is ethical because of the suffering they cause to animals, an Oxford academic controversially argues.  That is unless they convert to being a vegetarian upon being saved, but even then it still might be better to let them die.  Dr Michael Plant, a philosopher focusing on happiness, and who does eat meat himself, argues that according to some moral philosophies, it can be justifiable to let people like himself die. His argument stems from a conflict of what he says are two commonly held beliefs. The first is human beings have a duty to rescue each other when doing so comes at a trivial cost.  For example, jumping into a pond to save a drowning child but ruining your clothes in the process.  The second belief, Dr Plant claims, is that it is wrong to eat meat because of the suffering animals can experience in factory farms.  Such farms often keep livestock, like chickens, in cramped, dirty conditions before they are slaughtered.  He says this conflict leaves people who subscribe to the second belief in a...
Dogs that are fed raw meat are more likely to excrete the antibiotic-resistant bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli) in their faeces, vets have warned. Prior research has shown that there also is potential for the E. Coli to be passed from the dogs to their human owners through normal, every day interaction. Researchers at the University of Bristol suggest that pet owners who are raw feeding their dogs should take extra precautions when cleaning up their mess. They also suggest that the fashionable diet is not the safest choice for a domesticated dog for this reason. Matthew Avison, Professor of Molecular Bacteriology from the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, said:  'We should do everything we can to reduce the circulation of critically important antibiotic-resistant E. coli and other bacteria.  'Our research adds to the increasing evidence that not feeding raw meat to dogs may help in that objective.' The benefits of going vegan are regularly hammered home to us, and now a new study claims that dogs should be ditching meat too. Researchers from the University of Winchester studied the diets of more than 2,500 dogs to understand the link between diet and health outcomes. Their findings suggest that vegan diets may be healthier and safer for dogs than conventional or raw meat-based diets. 'Regardless of ingredients used, diets should always be formulated to be nutritionally complete and balanced, without which adverse health effects may eventually be expected to occur,' the researchers wrote.   The benefits of going vegan are regularly hammered home to us, and now a new study claims that dogs should be ditching meat too (stock image) A healthy diet for dogs Your dog needs a well-balanced diet to keep them happy and in good shape.  Make sure you feed them a diet suitable for their age, lifestyle and that matches their health needs. Our skin is a direct image of how healthy we are inside, and when we learn to use this amazing sign given to us by nature, we can achieve healthy skin and a healthy gut simultaneously. Every single thing we eat has to be digested, but there’s more to it than most of us realize. In fact, it’s not as simple as just “filling up the tank” and moving on with the day. The human body has to break down whatever we put into it to extract nutrients from that food. If it can not do this for whatever reason, that food goes undigested and ends up releasing toxins into the bloodstream as a byproduct of poor digestion. Of course, there is no one reason for this all too common problem. Food allergies or intolerances, hormonal imbalances caused by life changes and a poor diet, an autoimmune disease, low levels of good gut bacteria since birth (often showing up as colic in the baby), previous use of antibiotics and birth control, exposure to heavy metals and mercury (which fuel bad...
A raw food diet sounds like one of the most enticing diets to someone whose ever heard of its health claims or just loves healthy food. Raw food is so vibrant, so alive, so untouched, and so pure. It’s one of the best diets to obtain a wide variety of dense nutrients, whether you choose to eat all raw or even high raw. But many people pick up a popular raw food diet book and just go to town. They get the blender, juicer, mandoline, and even splurge for the dehydrator and the spiralizer and think they’re all set to go (though they’re probably now broke!). In all seriousness though, while these appliances and kitchen gems to be treasured all enhance the variety of dishes you can use in a raw food kitchen, they don’t necessarily ensure you get all the nutrients you need. Some common mistakes often occur for raw food newbies and they’re really easy mistakes to make (most of us know from first hand experience). If you’re considering adding raw food to your routine, we’d like to...
