Saint Alban les Eaux nuclear power plant, commissioned in 1985, exterior view, town of Saint Maurice l'Exil, department of Isere, FranceEric Bascol | Istock Editorial | Getty Images For Europe, the war in Ukraine has created an urgent priority to stop being dependent on Russian gas. The International Energy Agency, a policy organization with members from 31 national governments, and the European Commission, the executive arm of the European Union, both recently published plans for how Europe should accomplish this. The two published plans are roughly parallel, recommending the EU focus on renewables, efficiency, and imports of liquid natural gas. They do, however, differ in one obvious way. The plan from the IEA recommends keeping existing nuclear plants operating, while the plan from the EU makes no explicit reference to nuclear power at all. Addressing natural gas imports from Russia is no small feat. About 25% of the EU's energy consumption comes from natural gas, according to the Directorate-General for Energy for the EU. And the EU only produces 10% of the natural gas it needs, importing the rest from countries like Russia...
President Joe Biden called some of the winners of Tuesday night's elections, the White House said – but rang former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe rather than the new political star of the night Republican Glenn Youngkin. 'They have not spoken. But the president congratulates Gov.-elect Youngkin on his win,' White House Press Sec. Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Thursday. The president rang incoming New York Mayor Eric Adams as well as New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, who survived an election shock when Republican Jack Ciattarelli in a state Biden carried by 16 percentage points. Biden also called Rep.-elect Shontel Brown, who was elected to fill a seat vacated by Housing Secretary Marcia Fudge.  President Joe Biden has not yet phoned Republican Glenn Youngkin, but the White House said he congratulates Youngkin on his Virginia win But the president congratulates Gov.-elect Youngkin on his win,' White House Press Sec. Plane burns after horrific failed takeoff in Texas; crews celebrate no fatalities Growing in numbers and power, criminal gangs terrorize Haiti © Provided by NBC Sports Replay Video SETTINGS OFF HD HQ SD LO Skip Ad While investigating the Washington Football Team’s workplace issues, attorney Beth Wilkinson stumbled over enough to get her to gather more than 650,000 emails that, per the league, were sent by or to former team president Bruce Allen and that fell beyond the scope of the investigation. For some reason (still not disclosed by the league), Wilkinson did not examine emails sent by or to other current or former team employees. Many of us are hoping to escape for a summer holiday abroad this year, as lockdown restrictions ease, but these hilarious travel reviews prove that some people are better off staying at home.  Entitled tourists from around the world have complained of sandy white beaches that were 'too sandy,' Indian restaurants serving too much curry, and mountains being too steep in a hilarious gallery collated by Constative.  One person moaned that the legendary panting of the Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci, which is on show at the Louvre Museum in Paris, was too small, while another was aggrieved at being bitten by a mosquito. Perhaps one of the strangest bugbears was from a hotel quest who disapproved of the shape their towel was folded in because they 'don't like swans'.   Constative has collected the funniest reviews posted online by entitled tourists from around the world, including one who was baffled that hot air balloon rides didn't come with a disclaimer they were not suited for people who were scared of heights  Sorry Leonardo, but you could have done...
The director of Netflix’s "Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal" explained why Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman weren’t explored as thoroughly in the documentary.  Despite being the most high-profile celebrities swept up in the scandal, which saw the extreme lengths wealthy, elite parents have gone to in order to secure their children positions at top universities, director Chris Smith explained in a recent interview that he was much more interested in telling the lesser-reported sides of the complicated story.   "We focused on the transcripts that offered the most in terms of pushing the story forward," the filmmaker told Yahoo Entertainment in a recent interview. "Also, Felicity and Lori's story were already covered extensively in the media, so in making a documentary on subject matter that people think they already know, we were excited about trying to tell aspects and parts of the story that people might not be as familiar with." The director went on to note that he didn’t feel his documentary could add anything to the highly public discourse surrounding the two actresses. MOSSIMO GIANNULLI BEING HELD IN...
According to Ford exec Kumar Galhotra, “Ford’s strategy is different – we are delivering affordable, capable electric vehicles in the heart of the retail and commercial market rather than six-figure status vehicles.” Galhotra didn’t mention the recently-unveiled $112,000+ 1,000HP GMC Hummer EV, but I guess he didn’t really have to. Last but not least, while the Mustang Mach-E has yet to make its debut, Ford is already working on another battery-powered vehicle using a “similar” platform to increase efficiency of production, and it will build it at the same Cuautitlan, Mexico facility. As Autoblog points out, that doesn’t necessarily mean it will be another sporty crossover, since the flat EV platform can support nearly any kind of shell placed above it.
Donald Trump Jr has hit back at the bombshell report suggesting his father has been paying little or no federal income tax for years, saying most Americans 'don't understand' running a business. The executive of the Trump Organization defended the President after The New York Times claimed he paid no income tax in 11 of the 18 years studied, and only $750 in 2016 and 2017. The tax records show Trump is also carrying a total of $421 million in loans and debt that are primarily due within four years.  His eldest child appeared on Fox and Friends on Monday to rebuff the claims and instead suggested people were better off looking into Joe Biden's son Hunter's financial dealings. Donald Trump Jr has hit back at the bombshell report suggesting his father has been paying little or no federal income tax for years Downplaying the company's huge reported losses and minimal tax contribution, Trump Jr said: 'It's ridiculous, my father has paid tens of millions of taxes. 'If he does things in certain years where you get depreciation,...
While the Emmys is a celebratory night for TV's biggest shows and stars, the ceremony also takes a moment to reflect on all the people we've lost over the past year in entertainment. On Sunday's ceremony, musical artist H.E.R. performed a rendition of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" while playing the piano and guitar. Throughout the song, photos of stars like Chadwick Boseman, Naya Rivera, Regis Philbin and Kirk Douglas were displayed in a montage, but fans were quick to point out on Twitter how disappointed they were that Kobe Bryant, Nick Cordero and Kelly Preston weren't included. JENNIFER ANISTON, JIMMY KIMMEL FACE FIRE SCARE ON STAGE AT 2020 EMMY AWARDS While Bryant wasn't an actor, he was an entertainment icon and appeared on numerous TV shows during his career.
