Q: We’re supposed to get rain again soon. Too often I see cars driving too fast when the road is slippery. Can you provide tips for safe driving in rainy weather? Anonymous, San Jose A: Rain after a long dry spell can make roads slick. That’s because oil and grease accumulate on the road during dry parts of the year, and come to the surface all at once with the first rains of the fall, which can make roads treacherous. If slick road conditions catch you by surprise, or if you are driving too fast, you could end up in a crash. Here are tips for driving in rainy weather: Slow down, be cautious. Give yourself more time. Lowering your speed helps you watch out for sudden stops caused by disabled cars, debris and other hazards. Turn on your headlights to improve visibility. Disengage your cruise control. Keep your distance. A car needs two to three times more stopping distance on wet roads. Replace wiper blades regularly. Make sure your defroster is functioning properly, especially if you haven’t used...

CRIMINALS have been stealing money from drivers through a scam asking car owners to install vinyl decals on their vehicles. The fraudsters are succeeding since there are actual companies that will pay you to wrap your automobile in advertisements. 2Car decal advertising opportunities can be legitimate or complete scamsCredit: Getty Carvetise and Wrapify are two companies leading this advertising initiative. The two organizations frequently enlist people who drive for their job but also accept applicants who don’t drive for a living. Now scammers are mailing fake checks to drivers, saying they can receive immediate payment for participating in this advertising trend. The scheme’s victims are asked to deposit their received check and wire a large percentage of the money back to the company to cover advertising costs. Just hours after the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v Wade, late night host Bill Maher shot back at Democrats, who he says are losing the abortion debate with their woke politics - specifically calling out woke Rep. Alexadria Ocasio-Cortez who has defended using the term 'latinx.' In the closing monologue of his show Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday, Maher told viewers that abortion is a 'difficult issue for the Democrats to lose, but they're trying. 'For decades, liberals have said, "If only men could get pregnant, this wouldn't even be an issue," and "abortion rights are women's rights." Well, that's wrong now. 'When the woke end of the progressive spectrum talks about abortion now, they shy away from the word "women" and prefer terms like "birthing people" or "people who menstruate" because somewhere there's a trans man who's pregnant and I say good for him - and I'll be looking for his story somewhere in a future issue of Ripley's Believe it or Not.' 'Oh Democrats, let's take the first f****** word a human understands: "mama"...
Upwards of 400 crashes were recorded over a 10-month period involving vehicles on auto pilot, including 273 Teslas, statistics released Wednesday by U.S. safety regulators reveal. AP reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) cautioned against using the numbers to compare automakers, saying it didn’t weight them by the number of vehicles from each manufacturer that use the self-drive systems, or how many miles those vehicles traveled. Automakers reported crashes from July of last year through May 15 under an order from the agency, which is compiling the statistics for the first time. The NHTSA first launched a separate investigation into 765,000 Tesla cars ten months ago following 11 cases of models colliding with first-responder vehicles, as Breitbart News reported. “As we gather more data, NHTSA will be able to better identify any emerging risks or trends and learn more about how these technologies are performing in the real world,” said Steven Cliff, the agency’s administrator. https://t.co/bueSY6xGjl — Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) March 29, 2018 Tesla’s crashes happened while vehicles were using Autopilot, “Full Self-Driving,” Traffic Aware Cruise Control, or other...

The New York Times spoke with some of those tenants, including Chelcie Parry, who rented a studio for $1,750 in January 2021. On April 1, the rent went up to $3,450 — almost double from what she had been paying — and she had to leave. CHECK YOUR TIRE TREADS AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS If you have to go out in rainy weather, making sure your tire treads and wipers aren't worn down is critical. State laws require that drivers have a tire tread of 2/32 of an inch, but in bad weather, the more tire tread the better. Consumer Reports writes that having more than 4/32 of an inch of tread can save drivers in rainy and snowy weather by improving stopping distance and improving vehicle control by 33 percent. Windshield wipers are also critical for clearing off driver's front and back windows to create as...

Swedish police investigating the car crash death of a controversial artist who had survived multiple assassination attempts after drawing a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed cannot explain why his car was travelling so fast. Lars Vilks, 75, was killed Sunday when the police car he was travelling in veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with a truck.  Both vehicles caught fire and the truck driver, 45, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the two police protection officers and Vilks were all killed. Investigators believe there were no external influences that led to the death of the artist and say the crash may have been caused by a burst tyre. Fewer and fewer men want to go to college. According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal they are now trailing female college students at record levels. At the close of the 2021-2022 academic year women made up 59.5% of college students, which is an all time high, and men made up 40.5%. All told, U.S colleges and universities have 1.5 million fewer students compared with five years ago, and men accounted for 71% of the decline. The main question coming out of this study is - why is college and its intended experience being sold effectively to American women as necessary to advance in their lives but not to American men? There are all the obvious reasons men are opting out of college in a post-covid world. What was once seen as an almost necessary next step in order to launch into adulthood is now getting a second look. The rising cost of college is leaving young adults entering their twenties with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of debt for degrees with little guarantee of a...

MANY people are not sure if they're legally allowed to drive barefoot and if they could be fined for kicking off your shoes at the wheel. Auto-insurance experts revealed that it's not actually illegal to drive without shoes on, "contrary to popular belief." 1Auto-insurance experts say it's not illegal to drive shoe-less "No! It is not illegal to drive barefoot," Direct Auto Insurance said, adding that "no states in the US have road laws against driving without shoes." But the insurer warned that driving barefoot and without shoes can inhibit a driver's control of the vehicle. "[It] can lessen the grip and control you have on the pedals, which could lead to an accident," read the blog post. It went on to say that many US states urge drivers to wear shoes to avoid the safety hazards that stem from driving barefoot. "If you do choose to drive barefoot, make sure your shoes are not sitting in the driver’s side floorboard, as they could get lodged under the pedals," the insurer said. Another issue they addressed...
CNN’s Jake Tapper called out one Republican senator’s comments on gun control as “stupid.” There have been renewed calls for Congress to act on gun control measures following the shootings in Atlanta and Boulder this past week. During an earlier hearing, Senator John Kennedy (R- LA) said, “We have a lot of drunk drivers in America that are killing a lot of people. We ought to try to combat that too. But I think what many folks on my side of the aisle are saying is that the answer is not to get rid of all sober drivers. The answer is to concentrate on the problem.” Tapper said with a chuckle, “I don’t even know what to say to that, it’s so stupid.” “Obviously it’s not a good analogy,” CNN’s Abby Phillip said. “When you hear that argument that Senator Kennedy is making, what it is is a slippery slope argument. The base is telling them any sort of increase in gun control measures is going to be a step toward eradicating, you know, gun ownership in this country altogether,...

Expectations for the effort, named Project Titan, range from the company developing its own Apple-branded car to providing operating system software to existing car manufacturers. In April 2017, Apple received a permit from the California Department of Motor Vehicles to test self-driving vehicles there. An Apple car has the potential to be "a transformative event" for the automobile and mobility industry in the coming decades, Morgan Stanley analysts wrote in a note to investors last week — much as the iPhone changed the game for mobile phones. "There's just so much going on in [electric and autonomous vehicles] and connected tech," the analysts wrote. "It is perhaps a fitting time of the world's most valuable company to play its hand in the $10 trillion global mobility market."Read MoreApple...

Tesla announced on October 19, 2016, that all cars being produced have Full Self-Driving hardware. Almost four years later, numerous over-the-air software updates have introduced new features. But there has yet to be a complete Full Self-Driving release. Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted this week that some "expert and careful drivers" will get beta of Full Self-Driving on Tuesday. Musk has repeatedly promised a feature-complete update, but its arrival has been pushed back time and time again. Other players in the autonomous vehicle space have criticized Tesla's approach, and have even acknowledged their own timelines were overly ambitious as they've struggled to solve self-driving. So far in October, Denver Public Health & Environment has issued seventeen citations for violating the city's public-health order. Those ticketed include giant retailers such as Walmart, King Soopers and Sam's Club, as well as a restaurant that allegedly allowed a big party to be staged behind its location and even a private school at which a majority of students weren't wearing facial coverings. These enforcement actions have taken place against a troubling backdrop. During his October 13 press conference, Governor Jared Polis shared Colorado's worst COVID-19 data since the pandemic began and noted that Denver is driving the terrible stats, along with Adams County. The numbers in the Mile High are a big reason why Denver Public Schools has now announced that in-person learning for middle school and high school students will be delayed until November 9 at the earliest. Even before Polis's revelations, Mayor Michael Hancock acknowledged that the city had reached a make-or-break moment regarding the novel coronavirus, and teased a new crackdown on those violating health orders in an effort to stave off greater restrictions on capacity...
