A Rochester police officer is on desk duty after he was caught on camera forcefully handcuffing an emergency medical technician who’d reportedly bumped his squad car with her ambulance door just outside a hospital. According to News 10 Rochester, the Monroe Ambulance EMT was attempting to unload a patient in the ambulance bay area at Strong Memorial Hospital when she hit the cop’s car. The officer then demanded the EMT give him her identification, but the health-care worker was more concerned about getting the patient inside the hospital for treatment, the report says. In a video of the incident obtained by News 10, the EMT can be seen standing next to a colleague at the hospital check-in desk with the patient on a stretcher. The investigator, who is wearing a red shirt, then rushes toward the EMT, pushing her into a wall before handcuffing her and escorting her out of the hospital. The medical worker was ultimately released from custody without charges being filed. In a statement released Friday on Facebook, Monroe Ambulance said the EMT made the correct...

Willie Barkley, now a deputy, was working overnight on May 13 when he left K-9 officer Khan asleep in the car while he finished up reports in the driveway of his home.  In the early hours of May 14, Barkley went inside the house and left the four-year-old Belgian Malinois in the patrol car, instead of taking the dog to his pen in the yard. An Arizona police officer has been docked 20 hours of pay over the hot car death of his K-9 partner last June. Maricopa Police Officer Craig Curry left his K-9 named Ike inside his patrol car and left the engine running while he went into police headquarters for a meeting on June 26, 2020, according to a report by the state Department of Public Safety. Curry went back to his vehicle an hour and a half later and noticed it had turned off. He found Ike in the backseat panting heavily, the report said. Temperatures reached as high as 108 degrees that day. Ike was euthanized the next day. Curry failed to check up on the pooch every 30 minutes, which cops are required to do, per department policy. The officer had a device that would detect and alert him if the car became too hot for the K9, but he left it in his car when he went to his meeting, an investigation revealed. Curry said he wasn’t carrying the device because his...

On June 27, Alex Blocker joined around a hundred fellow string musicians outside the Aurora Municipal Center; they wanted to commemorate Elijah McClain, the 23-year-old Black violinist and massage therapist who'd died after a violent encounter with Aurora police in August 2019. The musicians performed together as riot cops, chasing down other protesters, disrupted their music and sprayed tear gas. Still, Blocker remembers the night as sweet yet powerful. “I went out there with some friends of mine, and we had a great time,” says Blocker, who is as joyful about life as he is serious about eradicating police violence. “There were some very talented musicians out there.” Blocker has been involved in the Black Lives Matter movement since the 2014 murder of Eric Garner, who uttered the words "I can't breathe" after a New York cop put him in a chokehold and strangled him. But McClain’s death really resonated: Both were Black, both in their twenties, both played the violin. FLORIDA MAN ASSAULTED AFTER ASKING WOMAN TO SOCIALLY DISTANCE AT SUPERMARKET: COPS Clara Paulino’s fingerprints were found all over the interior of the Ford Explorer following the horrifying incident outside their Miami Shores home Friday, the Miami Herald reported. “Clearly, she was panicked and trying to get out,” a law-enforcement source told the paper. Paulino, 56, apparently climbed into the back seat while looking for something, then got trapped there by the door’s latching mechanism, which prevents it from being opened from the inside. Paulino wasn’t carrying a cellphone and a safety partition prevented her from reaching over the front seat to honk the horn for help, according to the Herald. “It’s literally a cage,” one Miami cop said of the patrol vehicle’s rear seat. Paulino’s husband, Aristides Paulino, who’s been a Miami cop for 25 years, was asleep in their home following a midnight shift when the tragedy unfolded Friday afternoon, according to...
