    DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A 28-year-old was killed when another man reportedly pulled him off his bicycle, causing him to suffer fatal injuries to his head when he fell to the ground, according to police.Oscar Gaytan was found dead early Tuesday morning at a shopping center in downtown Los Angeles near 7th and Flower streets.The Los Angeles Police Department have since declared this a homicide investigation, and Gaytan's family is looking for more information."We have questions and we want answers, and it breaks our heart," said Gaytan's sister, Jocelyn, who did not want to share her last name.According to the family, Gaytan lived with his mother and father in Duarte.They said he was at a Dodgers game Monday night and believes he was biking to the downtown L.A. metro station to head home. (KABC) -- The city of Duarte is mourning Mayor Brian Urias, who was found unresponsive at his home over the weekend and pronounced dead at the scene.Firefighters responded to a medical emergency at the mayor's home in the 2000 block of Buena Vista Drive on Sunday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.There was no immediate information on a cause of death.Urias was elected to the Duarte City Council in November 2018 and became the city's mayor in December 2020.According to the city, Urias was a lifelong resident of the San Gabriel Valley, the son of immigrant parents and the first in his family to attend college, graduating from Cal State Los Angeles. He spent time working for Reps.     Belmont — Police are searching for a missing 36-year-old San Mateo woman and her 3-year-old son. A Belmont police spokesperson said Saturday afternoon that the woman, Ana Duarte, and her son, Ian Duarte, left their San Mateo home at around 11 a.m. Friday to visit family in the 900 block of E Street in Belmont. They never made it to their destination. Duarte’s vehicle was later discovered parked on E Street. According to police, information provided by Duarte’s family suggests that Duarte and her son may have left Belmont with Isaias Alejo-Hernandez, her ex-boyfriend. Alejo-Hernandez, 37, is a Redwood City resident. His vehicle is a white 2007 Nissan Versa, with California license plate 7SKH152. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Duarte and her son should contact the Belmont Police Department at 650-595-7400.

(KABC) -- A family in Duarte had a frightening close call with a bear that managed to get into their home Friday night.Deputies responded to the 2700 block of Briar Summit Drive around 8:30 p.m. after receiving a call about the bear entering the home, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.The family had locked themselves in a room on the second floor of the home while they waited for authorities to help. At some point, the bear left the home on its own.Though there were no injuries, the incident served as a reminder of the risks of living in that area.Residents in that neighborhood, which is located at the edge of the Angeles National Forest, have had past encounters with bears.
    CHICAGO -- A mural on the West side of Chicago is depicting real portraits of community members to show the resiliency of the community! The mural is known as "Somos Pilsen," which means "We are Pilsen" in English.The mural, located on 1113 W. 18th street outside of Carnitas Don Pedro restaurant, was created by Mateo Zapata and Pablo Serrano. Both artists said the mural was a tribute to the culture of Pilsen, community members, and the Duarte family. The Duarte family owns the Carnitas Don Pedro restaurant which was opened by Pedro Duarte in 1981."We're not going to let others define us, we are going to define us," said Serrano.He said the mural depicts the resiliency of the Latino culture in Pilsen since Latinos have been hardest hit by the pandemic and negative stereotyping.The mural was commissioned by the Duarte family, while Sunbelt Rentals donated equipment to make the project happen.
