To help the regions that have been especially hard hit, Italy is sending $37.5 million in relief funds distributed to Emilia-Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto regions, according to a written statement published by the Italian government. "For the Po basin, this is the most serious water crisis of the last seventy years, according to analysis by the Po River District Basin Authority," Prime Minister Mario Draghi said on Thursday, according to a translation of his public statement provided by the Italian government. The Tiber River, which flows through central Italy and Rome and is seen flowing under the famous Vittorio Emanuele II bridge in the image above, is also running at very...
A 100-year-old World War Two veteran who said that America is 'going to hell in a hand-basket' in a tearful interview has hinted that he fought for freedom which the country does not value.  Speaking to DailyMail.con on Monday, Florida veteran Carl Dekle, who turned 100 last week, gave a heartbreaking assessment of the state of the country he fought for 80 years ago.  'Instead of the way we are going in our demonstrations, [we should go] through our legislators, who are elected. And if we don't like the way they operate, then you get a chance to vote them out, and get new ones,' Dekle said.  During a Sunday celebration of his 100th birthday at a church service in Plant City, Dekle also said that America used to be 'a beautiful country, but somebody is messing this place up.'   Dekle's daughter, Dorothy Shapiro, said her father is very concerned about the recent bruises to US democracy, including the January 6 Capitol riot and the alarming mass shootings epidemic.   'If you don't like something, you talk to [legislators] ... not...
On Friday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Don Lemon Tonight,” New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) claimed that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas ruled that “there are no precedents that you can rely on,” and that the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and leaving the decisions on abortion laws to the legislature “is now a call to action to save the democracy. And you think the insurrection would be enough, but I think this is the tipping point today.” Grisham said, “This is not how you build a democracy. This is how you rip it apart. And for many women and their families, to have equal protections under the law and basically having Justice Thomas declare that everything now is — can be revisited, that there are no precedents that you can rely on, I think is a message to voters that this is not just a single issue anymore, not even a moral debate. The democracy, in fact, by virtue of the politicization of this and related issues is now a call to action to save the democracy. And you think...
The Republican party blasted President Joe Biden on Twitter Monday after he said 'there is no federal solution' to combatting COVID-19. The GOP, citing a comment Biden made in October 2020, released a tweet implying the president flip-flopped on his commitment to battling the pandemic. 'BIDEN, TODAY: 'There is no federal solution' to COVID,' the Republican National Committee wrote, including footage of the president from Monday's meeting with 25 governors.  'BIDEN, 2020: 'I'm going to shut down the virus.'    However, Biden's supporters rushed to his defense, alleging the Republicans took his remarks out of context. 'This deceptively-edited clip put out by the RNC and several GOP Members of Congress of Biden today creates the false impression that Biden is giving up on battling COVID,' defense attorney Ron Filipkowski said. 'This is a total lie'. Filipkowski claimed the now-viral clip of Biden was 'a total lie' and edited to suggest he is 'quitting on dealing with COVID and just throwing it to the states.'   The Republican party blasted President Joe Biden on Twitter Monday after he said 'there is no federal solution' to...
The majority of Americans feel they cannot trust President Joe Biden and his administration when it comes to what they say about the situation in Afghanistan, according to a new poll released Thursday. Only 34 per cent of likely U.S. voters said they trust what Biden administration officials are saying regarding the chaotic scene in Kabul after the Taliban was able to take over the country in less than two weeks. In the Rasmussen Reports poll 54 per cent of respondents said they don't trust what administration officials are saying about the Afghanistan withdrawal and 11 per cent say they are unsure. The new survey was released as the administration continues to stonewall and deflect, and the president often refuses to take questions from the media on the matter. Unclear still is how many Americans are on the ground in Afghanistan and need evacuation before the impending August 31 deadline for a full U.S. troop withdrawal. The poll was taken August 24-25 among 1,000 likely U.S. voters. It was before two bombings at Kabul airport gates lead to 60 casualties,...
On October 1 comes ‘No time to die’ Amazon has assured that Bond will continue to premiere on the big screen If you were expecting James Bond to get a little more Marvel with a spin-off TV series, there’s not much of a chance that would happen, according to the Bond producers. With the franchise turning 60 next year, in a chat with Total Film, the producers of James Bond, Barbara broccoli and Michael G Wilson, admitted that they have resisted the screams of a television series from the beginning. Now that Amazon has bought MGM, there has been concern among fans that this will somehow negatively impact the franchise, but the producers do not seem concerned. Universal “We make movies. We make movies for the cinema. That’s what we do,” said Broccoli, firmly denying that there will be a 007 spin-off as a teenager. Wilson added: “We have resisted that call for 60 years.” Amazon has assured bosses that it will not suddenly release future movies to its platform and that the upcoming ‘No Time...
According to a Friday report from The Hill, Democratic strategists and operatives believe complacency will not be an issue in the 2020 presidential election, even though the party’s presidential nominee Joe Biden has surged past President Donald Trump in most polls. Democratic donor and member of the Democratic National Committee, Robert Zimmerman, suggested that Democrats are not being overconfident. “One of the great strengths Democrats bring to 2020 is that we’re not suffering from overconfidence. We’ve seen this movie before,” he said. Strategist Christy Setzer echoed Zimmerman, stating that complacency “is not a real thing.” “Getting caught off-guard by a secret Trump army definitely falls into the ‘fool me once’ category,” she said. “We have a lot of worries. But complacency doesn’t crack the top 10 for me,” Setzer added, explaining that concerns over voter suppression and the Electoral College system top her list. As The Hill noted, during a fundraiser earlier this week, former President Barack Obama issued a warning about potential complacency, suggesting that Democrats cannot allow the 2016 election to repeat itself. Biden — who became the...

President Trump poses a ‘danger for the republic’ and his re-election would put the country in even greater peril since he wouldn’t be constrained by electoral considerations in a second term, John Bolton warns. Trump’s former national security adviser said the president has little regard for facts and that his decisions aren’t rooted in ‘philosophy, grand strategy, or policy’ but are solely geared toward his own political future. Bolton said that Trump’s behavior ‘shows a pattern quite contrary to the image he would like to convey, of a decisive president who knows something about what he's doing. ‘There really isn't any guiding principle - that I was able to discern other than - what's good for Donald Trump's reelection,' Bolton told ABC News on Sunday. ‘Now, look, you can't take the politics out of politics. It plays a role in every aspect of decision making in the executive branch. Seattle's police chief insisted there is no 'cop free' zone in the city after claims cops failed to respond to 911 calls. Chief Carmen Best was referring to the so-called Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) - a six-block area in the Capitol Hill neighborhood blocked off by Black Lives Matter protesters.  One local business owner said he had called 911 nearly 20 times after protesters vandalized his business but cops did not show up. In response, Best said on Monday that the notion that the city is 'under siege' is not the case. Officials have replaced plastic barriers put in place by protesters with concrete ones which will shrink the CHAZ, now known as the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP), down to just three blocks and also split Pine Street for pedestrians and traffic. Vice President Mike Pence on Friday expressed “no tolerance for racism” in response to two highly publicized killings of unarmed black men, but he also said rioting is not the answer. “Our prayers are with George Floyd’s family. Our prayers are also with the family of Ahmaud Arbery,” Mr. Pence said of the killings in Minnesota and Georgia, respectively. “We have no tolerance for racism in America. We have no tolerance for violence inspired by racism. And as President Trump said, justice will be served.” At a stop at a minority-owned bank in Atlanta, Mr. Pence added, “We also believe in law and order in this country. We condemn violence against property or persons. We will also always stand for the right of Americans to peacefully protest and let their voices be heard.” TOP STORIES Amy Klobuchar missed chance to prosecute Minneapolis cop now at center of George Floyd death Justice Department says George Floyd death investigation is a top priority Van Jones: Forget the KKK, its the white, liberal Hillary Clinton supporter we should worry about Mr. Floyd...
