A six-year-old Florida boy is rescued when his pet German shepherd rushes to protect him after the neighbor's dog got loose and charged at the youngster. Kaiir Elam has played football almost exclusively in Florida, but that is about to change in a big way. On Thursday, the Buffalo Bills traded up from No. 25 to 23, ahead of the Dallas Cowboys at 24, and selected him at the 2022 NFL Draft in Las Vegas. The cornerback joins the Bills after spending three years with the University of Florida, where the 6-foot-1 1/2 and 191-pound player made six interceptions, 79 total tackles, 26 passes defended, and one fumble recovery in 35 appearances. He played four seasons with the Buccaneers, compiling 71 tackles and nine interceptions in addition to 15 receiving touchdowns and one rushing score. Elam was named the Palm Beach 5A-1A football defensive player of the year as a senior in 2018. Elam is following in his father Abram and uncle Matt’s footsteps by playing in the NFL. SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Frank Vatrano scored twice and Sergei Bobrovsky made 34 saves to help the Florida Panthers remain perfect at home with a 5-4 victory against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night. Owen Tippett, Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Bennett also scored for the Panthers, who improved to 13-2-3 overall and 10-0-0 at home this season. Vatrano added an assist. The original Ottawa Senators started 10-0-0 in 1925-26, as did Montreal in 2016-17. And now, the Panthers are on that list. “This is a tough building to play in and we’re ready to go every night,” Panthers interim coach Andrew Brunette said. GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida coach Dan Mullen is sticking with quarterback Emory Jones for Saturday’s game at Missouri and probably the rest of the season. Jones is coming off a record-setting performance in a 70-52 victory against lower-division Samford. He completed 28 of 34 passes for 464 yards and six touchdowns. He also ran for 86 yards and a score. His 550 total yards broke Tim Tebow’s school record of 533 set in the 2010 Sugar Bowl against Cincinnati. “It was fantastic,” Mullen said Monday. “It was so huge for Emory to just sit up there and just consistently perform time after time after time. To go and set the top performance for a quarterback in the history of Florida football, that is a pretty special deal, right? “There’s a lot of great players and a lot of football played around here. When you sit atop the record book as a quarterback here at Florida, that’s a special deal.” Mullen refused to even acknowledge that Jones’ success came against a middle-of-the-pack team from the Southern Conference that has the...

Joe Biden created a viral moment when he stepped to the lectern at a campaign event and started playing the hit Spanish song "Despacito" from his phone, but the playing of the song was not entirely unprompted. The former vice president and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate has a history of playing songs from his phone recorded by artists appearing with him at a campaign event. "I just have one thing to say. Hang on," Biden said at his campaign event in Kissimmee, Florida, on Tuesday at an event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, before holding his phone to a microphone and playing the hit 2017 song. Clips of the video circulated on social media, making "Despacito" a top trend on Twitter in the United States. The incident prompted mocking from those who accused Biden of pandering to Hispanic and Latino voters as President Trump makes gains among the demographic in polls. Biden's playing of the song, though, makes more sense in the context of the event. Louis Fonsi, the singer who recorded "Despacito," was one of...
