RICHMOND — A 48-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a Saturday homicide in Richmond, where the victim was killed after traveling with the suspect from Oakland, police said. Authorities have not released the name of the shooter, pending a decision by the Contra Costa District Attorney on whether to file charges. He was arrested around 2 p.m. Monday, police said. The victim, a 33-year-old Hayward resident, was shot and killed at Southside Park near South Sixth Street and Virginia Avenue. Police say the two men began arguing in Oakland, and rode to Richmond together, ostensibly to sort out their differences. The victim was shot and killed after their arrival in Richmond. The fatal shooting was one of four within the past week in Richmond, including two homicides on Monday, Saturday’s killing, and a fatal shooting on Aug. 17. Police believe one of Monday’s homicides may have been a retaliation for the Aug. 17 shooting. It is the city’s worst spree of homicides since four people were killed within an 18-day period in 2020. Richmond has seen 17 homicides...

3 GOING through childbirth can be an intense and emotional experience. And if it's a difficult birth - such as losing a lot of blood or having to have an emergency caesarean - then you might be left with some ongoing trauma. 3Four signs to look out for if you feel that you might be suffering from birth traumaCredit: Getty This is called birth trauma - also referred to as postnatal PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) - and can affect mothers, fathers, and even midwives. "Some women experience events during childbirth (as well as in pregnancy or immediately after birth) that would traumatise any normal person," the Birth Trauma Association (BTA) explained on their website. "For others, it is not always the sensational or dramatic events that trigger childbirth trauma but other factors such as loss of control, loss of dignity, the hostile attitudes of the people around them, feelings of not being heard or the absence of informed consent to medical procedures." Birth trauma has become more talked about in recent weeks due to...
A woman who was filmed pepper spraying four Asian women in a racially motivated attack in Manhattan last week was arraigned and charged with a hate crime Sunday, after video of the incident went viral.  The suspect, 47-year-old Madeline Barker, was caught on camera hurling racial insults at the victims, such as 'Go back to where you came from' and you don't belong here,' during the June 10 altercation. Barker was ruled a possible flight risk at her first court appearance Saturday in Manhattan, and ordered held on $20,000 bail.  Prosecutors lobbied for the judge to declare Barker a flight risk because she’s from Florida, didn’t turn herself in and was only caught after an eyewitness recognized her on the street, according to the New York Post. Barker's Legal Aid Counsel argued that the media coverage of the incident had 'amplified' the case.  She faces charges of assault as a hate crime, with Judge Eric Schumacher setting bail at $20,000 cash, $20,000 partially secure bond. She appeared wearing a denim jacket and a white facemask. A woman who was filmed pepper...

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Justin Simmons keeps piling stops on the football field and salutes off it. The Broncos fifth-year safety is having another stellar season for a scuffling squad, and hopes to parlay it into the long-term deal with Denver that eluded him last offseason. “It would mean everything,” said Simmons, who’s playing on the $11.441 million franchise tag that prevents the Broncos from negotiating with him again until next spring. “I’ve built so many great relationships here, and I’ve built so many great relationships in the community. There are so many things that I care about here. It’s a no-brainer on my end.” Justin Simmons (credit: CBS) Although Simmons’ career has coincided with the Broncos’ fall from Super Bowl champion to perennial also-ran, the heart of Denver’s defense sees the team inching closer to contention even though another loss will mean four consecutive losing seasons for the first time in more than four decades. ENGLAND'S embarrassing Euro 2016 defeat to Iceland was one of the lowest moments in the national team's long history - and there have certainly been a few. PHILADELPHIA (CBS)- Eagles fans are known for their passion. It’s a staple of life as a Philadelphia fan and in most years, it goes unrewarded. But, in 2018, the fan base finally enjoyed a happy ending with the team delivering a win in Super Bowl LII over the New England Patriots. Fewer than four percent of people in Wuhan, the city where the coronavirus pandemic began last year, have antibodies to the virus that causes COVID-19, a new study suggests.  The first epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic, the virus quickly spread to thousands in Wuhan, overwhelming its health care system and forcing weeks of draconian lockdowns.  It seemed the virus was everywhere - especially after solid evidence emerged that many cases of COVID-19 are asymptomatic.  But the new study, published Friday in JAMA Network Open, suggests that the vast majority of people who were never diagnosed with coronavirus never had it.  Or, if they did, the immune proteins that scientists think likely offer protection against reinfection have waned beyond the point of being detectable since the virus first laid waste to the Chinese city last winter.  As a controversial coronavirus response strategy that relies on herd immunity gains traction in the UK and US, the new findings offer yet another worrying sign that the even the populations hit earliest and hardest by coronavirus may still have low rates of protection against...
A new lawsuit has claimed that laicized Cardinal Theodore McCarrick ran a sex ring from a New Jersey beach house in the 1980s, and that he groomed a young victim for a role in it by the time he was a teenager. The Tuesday filing names the plaintiff as only Doe 14 and the anonymous person – who is now 53 years old – claims he was first abused by McCarrick when he was 14 years old. He alleges that the sex ring activity took place at a property in the Jersey Shore's Sea Girt area and that McCarrick directed Father Anthony Nardino, Father John Laferrera, Father Michael Walters, Father Gerald Ruane and Brother Andrew Thomas Hewitt, CFC, who are accused of procuring at least seven boys. The plaintiff claims that Hewitt, who was the principal at Essex Catholic Boy's High School at the time, abused him and that he introduced him to McCarrick, who was the Bishop of the Archdiocese of Metuchen, as someone who could help pay his tuition. Hewitt died in 2002. An anonymous man referred...
