Share this: The St. Francis Brooklyn men’s soccer club was less than 15 minutes away from its seventh trip to the NCAA College Cup in the past 11 seasons Sunday. Then, Fairleigh Dickinson’s Jaime Barbero took it from them. Barbero scored two late goals as top-seeded FDU rallied past the Terriers, 2-1, in the Northeast Conference Championship in front of 518 fans at University Stadium in Hackensack, N.J.
Share this: One thing Brooklynites have come to rely on for most of this past decade is that either Long Island University or St. Francis College will represent our borough in the NCAA College Cup. Entering the semifinal round of the Northeast Conference Tournament, only the Terriers, winners of six of the last 10 NEC titles, still have a chance to do so. SFC netminder Alec McLachlan scored the game-winning penalty during the third straight postseason shootout between the Brooklyn rivals and even stopped Robert Winkler’s attempt at the equalizer Sunday, thrusting the Terriers into Thursday night’s semifinal showdown at Merrimack.

Share this: The St. Francis Brooklyn men’s soccer team will enter the Northeast Conference portion of its schedule next weekend with some serious momentum thanks to grad student striker Khaled Abdella. The Fort Hamilton High School alum and Brooklyn native scored his third goal of the year and recorded an assist on Corrado Carbone’s tally 41 second later, sparking the Terriers to a 3-0 blanking of Brown Sunday afternoon at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Abdella, who had two goals and an assist during the Terriers’ two-game winning streak last week, got things started against Brown by heading a cross off the foot of Jaydon Humphries past netminder Henrik Weiper at the 20:27 mark of the first half to open the scoring.

by Ross Pomeroy   Veterinary scientists associated with National Taiwan University and The Royal Veterinary College in the United Kingdom have completed a massive study of pet dogs’ life expectancy in the United Kingdom, providing unprecedented, evidence-backed estimates of how long owners can expect their pooches to live. The researchers made use of the VetCompass database for their study. VetCompass is composed of anonymous patient data from primary-care veterinary practices in the UK. During the study period from January 1st, 2016 to July 31st, 2020, the researchers monitored 876,039 dogs from 18 recognized breeds as well as crossbred dogs, observing a total of 30,563 confirmed deaths. Here are six of the key findings: 1. Small Terriers Claim the Longevity Crown. Jack Russell and Yorkshire Terriers can be expected to live 12.7 and 12.5 years respectively. A few terriers in the study nearly made it to age 20. 2. Bulldogs and Pugs Live the Shortest. Bulldogs and Pugs usually live no more than eight years on average. This almost certainly owes to their squashed snouts, a result of inbreeding, which can severely hamper their ability to...

BOSTON (AP) – Dylan Peterson scored with 2:48 remaining and Boston University edged three-time defending champion Northeastern 1-0 in the 69th annual Beanpot championship. Vinny Duplessis made 19 saves as the Terriers won their 31st Beanpot, by far the most among the four participating schools. But it was their first since 2015 – the longest drought for any of the programs. Held annually on the first two Mondays in February, the tournament matches the Boston area’s four Division I hockey powers at TD Garden, home of the NHL’s Boston Bruins. The 17th-ranked Terriers outshot the No. 13 Huskies 29-19 and controlled play for most of the third period, but could not beat Northeastern freshman goalie T.J. BOSTON (AP) — Dylan Peterson scored with 2:48 remaining and Boston University edged three-time defending champion Northeastern 1-0 on Monday night in the 69th annual Beanpot championship. Vinny Duplessis stopped all 20 shots he faced as the Terriers won their 31st Beanpot title and first since 2015. The Terriers (17-10-3) outshot the Huskies 29-19 and controlled most of the third period, but could not beat Northeastern freshman goalie T.J. Semptimphelter until Peterson converted on a 2-on-1 rush. Domenick Fensore also assisted on the play. Northeastern (19-9-1) had won three straight Beanpot titles but its run was interrupted last year when the tournament was canceled for the first time because of COVID-19. It was the first shutout in a Beanpot title game since the Terriers lost to rival Boston College 1-0 in overtime in...
